I have some stuff in the Access database I used to set up the "new, improved" Inn, but there's no good way to import it.

Silly Grugg, you can't change history! Just because the form lets you click something doesn't mean it does anything.

The plot to Spirited Away, explained:

Chihiro and her parents take a wrong turn while driving to their new home in the country. They discover a tunnel that takes them into what appears to be an abandoned town (or theme park?). While exploring, they discover an open-air restaurant filled with all sorts of wonderful food.

The parents dig in, figuring that they will pay when the owners return, but Chihiro senses that all is not as it seems. She leaves her parents to explore, and meets Haku, a boy who warns her that she must leave before nightfall.

Chihiro run back to find her parents, but discovers that they have been turned into pigs (for their greed? for eating food not meant for mortals?). Haku helps Chihiro to get a job in the great bathhouse, which serves the mnay different gods and spirits of Japan. This allows her to "legitimately" stay in the realm, and also alows her an opportunity to save her parents.

**Vanadia rolls very well**

The "agiles" machine always connects to the same network port, which is traceable back to room 30 on your map.

What was keeping you out? state of the art network security is all. Just smart, sophisticated hacker prevention tools. Nothing else.

Subject: after a long lapse

Sorry, folks. RL has killed me lately, and I've just been sucking in the post department. I finally managed to get one up, and we've woofed ahead. Sorry that you're dropping, Tann, but I understand. I will NPC Kane for now.

My post included Blake's findings in the network. There is really nothing so far to indicate as to what happened. As noted, there are no project-specific files to be found on the servers, or on any resources connected to them.

All but the most minor cold damage has been healed, due to your time indoors.

CPL Hatherford: MIA. Status unknown.
CPL Hart: MIA. Status unknown.

LT Kernan: pretty much unscathed.
WO Blake: minimal combat damage.
SGT Lee: moderate to seriously wounded from combat damage.
PFC Pearson: moderate to seriously wounded from combat damage.
SSG Kane: all but unscathed.
CPL Johannsen: moderate to seriously wounded from combat damage.

Lee, Pearson, and Johannsen can move and fight, but are a bit stiff and slow due to their ijuries. Lee especially may tire quicker than usual if asked to do anything too strenuous. Where's a cleric when you need one?

May 9th, 2025 - 1100
Communications Center, Antarctic Research Facility 36, Antarctica

Fortunately for the wounded, Johannsen, with a little help, is able to stabilize the wounded from the cave. There are broken ribs to tape all around, as well as a lundry list of various bumps, bruises, and contusions, but the final score is that all will live. The team is far from fighting fit, but after her initial first aid, there is little for the medic to do but prescribe rest.

As ordered, radio contact with the missing rangers is tried at regular intervals throughout the waiting period, but static is the only response ever received.

Meanwhile, Blake worries away at the stations's servers, trying one subtle attack vector after another. Eventually, the misfit-turned-ranger gets the feeling that it is no longer a matter of "if", but a matter of "when" - and eventually, she is proven correct, as she manages to force her way in and gain full root access to the entire netowrk.

Unfortunately, the fruit of the victory is not as sweet as expected. Blake has full access to all network user accounts, all personnel files, all activity logs, all shared documents. To her great frustration, she discovers that there is zero record ANYWHERE on the network of anything but the most cursory references to the station's research.

On a hunch, the techie checks the network access logs, and a lightbulb flashes on in her head. There are many records of a workstation named "agiles" being connected to various resources. However, that workstation is not currently connected. It is quite possible that the doctor may be keeping the specifics of his research on his own personal computer, rather than saving them to a network location. It's what I would do, Blake muses.

Subject: methinks I have missed the point...

I don't see a whole lot of finger pointing on our boards, as is. Sure, the odd incident, but whatever.

I think that we have what you are looking for in the DM's Corner and Player's Guild areas (as Eol has pointed out), as well as in the game-specific Q&A threads.

I suppose one could start a generic game question and answer thread... that would be fine, and would probably be well received here. But things like "what languages can my elf speak" are only answerable by your DM/GM. Campaign settings differ from game to game, and even two DMs may have different rules, even if they use the same setting.

...I am guilty of the same sin as Eol. I let our original Star Tre: Discovery game die because the active posters overwhelmed me.

Hopefully, our illustrious DM can take a step back, regroup, and maybe into the game again at a slightly later point in time (a few days, longer?). Get us back on track.

Subject: part three

The time in Freegate had flown past. Alloryn had recovered well enough, but her memories of the event had been disjointed and disturbing. Try as he might, Arien was unable to convince his twin to stay; she felt strongly that her own path, at least for the time being, was one of independence, and her little brother knew well enough that he would not dissuade her. The heir to House Thedell had presented his ruined shield to Dwan, proclaiming that he would pay any price to have it restored. The dwarf, in his typical gruff manner, had taken it and muttered something about "seeing what he could do".

Summer had stretched into autumn, and Arien found allowed himself to be occupied by affairs of minor business, varous diversions available to a young noble such as himself, and of course, the pursuit of the fairer sex. Freegate seemed nothing more that a waypoint, and the knight found himself loathe to wander far. So, for the time being, he enjoyed city life, and the company that he found.

The day arrived that found Arien summoned once again to Dwan's meeting hall, and of course, his comrades were there, as well. After the group had exchanged greetings, the dwarf welcomed them, and introduced one Matthias Rath as a mage of vast power who would be accompanying them on the mission. Arien nodded to the man in a friendly manner - Dwan vouched for him, which was good enough in the knight's eyes.

The mission itself sounded simple enough; investgate the disappearances, find the villain behind them, and slay him (or them). The fact that there were alost certainly unnatural forces at work here seemed almost a given, what with the history that the knight and his comrades had lived through in the service of Dwan. Arien found that he was neither surprised nor overly worried at this point in time.

Soon, the discussion turned, for some reason, to ancient history. Truth be told, Arien was unsure exactly how it had a bearing on their current mission, and he found the topic to be quite dry. Still, he listened politely, knowing that Dwan would certainly not allow useless tales to be bandied about for no reason. The knight's eyes narrowed at the lout, Maximus, as the big man began to nod off during the discussion. The man had no manners whatsover, and deserved a brisk cuff to the back of his head for such insolence!

Fuming silently, Arien listened for the mages and the learned to finish their discussion.

Topic: yet another movie thread...
Subject: a better one

Once upon a time, a good friend of mine had me sit down and watch Spirited Away. I had never been exposed to this sort of film, and it blew my mind... and also, opened it.

Later, I had my children watch that same film, and they loved it. So, we added another Studio Ghibli (Japanese studo owned by Disney... does nothing but anime-style films) title to our Netflix queue - The Cat Returns.

When they read the blurb of what the movie was about, my kids (daughter, age twelve, and son, age ten) were prepared to heap ridicule on the movie... man, have they become a tough audience! The basic premise is that a girl rescues a cat from being hit by a truck. Unbeknownst to her, the cat is the Prince of cats, who thanks her for her kind deed. The Kingdom of cats is in turn grateful to her, and they shower her with gifts and an offer of marriage to the prince (an offer that she is not prepared to accept).

She is transported to the kingdom, where the demented King of cats does everything in his power to force the marriage, while the girl tries to escape. The movie contains a couple of nice fable-type character lessons regarding karma and good deeds coming back around to those who do them.

Please, make it a point to see this movie. My kids both loved it, and are demanding to find a copy to own. The characters are very well done, and have developed personalities (not to mention, excellent voice work). The Japanese influence can be felt throughout the movie; there are several truly bizarre moments that will make you laugh out loud with their pure absurdity. The plot is well done, and strikes a nice balance of feeling neither rushed nor slow.

The Cat Returns is an excellent film, and one that I highly recommend.
