Changed the player to one that plays nicely with Firefox. Also added a download link so that you can own your very own copy, if you so desire.

Added the same to "The DM Song" and "The Die is Cast".

As you may have noticed (if you hit the front page of the site), I just posted a new parody song (You're Gruesome, Dude) written by the talented Alacrity. This one was a bit different, as Al wrote it in response to my request - I wanted to record it. That recording is embedded on the page.

I may be doing more of these, just for the fun of it. Is that something anyone would want to hear? I do realize that my poor equipment and marginal talent equal less than stellar quality... but I think this is fun to do.

In the meantime, I went back and embedded "The DM Song" on its page, as well. I mean, you may want to listen to it, but why have to download it?

We're also wondering if other Innmates might want to record their own versions and share them with us?

Subject: stepping in

Arien was more than a little outdone with Maximus' lack of respect for Dwan and their mission, and the knight had fought hard to supress the urge to cuff him for his bad manners. So, as the gladiator's chair dissolved into sparkling pink dust that seemed to want to stick to his huge frame, Arien's first reaction was very similar to that of Dwan - except that he had less success in holding back the laughter.

Unfortunately, the big man did not see the humor in the situation; instead, his anger immediately boiled to the surface. As the new wizard's bird cawed in amusement, the gladitator took a menacing posture and moved toward the creature and its master, violent intent obvious in his very bearing.

Quickly, the heir to House Thedell lept to his feet. Though considered by the rest to be the leader of this group, Arien had always made it a point to not push the issue; he knew well that it was a bond of kinship, not of some forced loyalty, that held the party together. For the most part, everyone did their part willingly, and decisions were made as a team. In short, Arien seldom gave orders, because there was never a need to do so.

Now, though, was an exception to that rule. He could try to reason with the big man, but would Maximus hear him through the fog of his rage? No, best to nip this situation in the bud before it got out of hand.

Resplendent in his polished plate armor, Arien stepped between the gladiator and his intended target. While no small man himself, Arien did not compare in physical size to the monster that was Maximus. Even so, years of experience, tempered by a noble birthright, lent weight to the knight's bearing as Arien threw himself into full "knight commander mode."

"Stop right there, you oaf," Arien bellowed, "before anyone gets hurt! Don't be fool enough to think that Dwan will allow violence within his own hall!" Hoping that he had the big man's attention, Arien softened his tone. "Besides," he added with a smile, "it's always better to be the friend of the man who throws magical fire, is it not? Were it me in pink, you'd enjoy a good laugh, aye? So sit down, appeciate the joke, and pay our host the courtesy of your attention." The last is given in a tone that brooks no insolence.

Hopefully, the knight muses, it will be enough.

I have some stuff in the Access database I used to set up the "new, improved" Inn, but there's no good way to import it.

Silly Grugg, you can't change history! Just because the form lets you click something doesn't mean it does anything.

The plot to Spirited Away, explained:

Chihiro and her parents take a wrong turn while driving to their new home in the country. They discover a tunnel that takes them into what appears to be an abandoned town (or theme park?). While exploring, they discover an open-air restaurant filled with all sorts of wonderful food.

The parents dig in, figuring that they will pay when the owners return, but Chihiro senses that all is not as it seems. She leaves her parents to explore, and meets Haku, a boy who warns her that she must leave before nightfall.

Chihiro run back to find her parents, but discovers that they have been turned into pigs (for their greed? for eating food not meant for mortals?). Haku helps Chihiro to get a job in the great bathhouse, which serves the mnay different gods and spirits of Japan. This allows her to "legitimately" stay in the realm, and also alows her an opportunity to save her parents.

**Vanadia rolls very well**

The "agiles" machine always connects to the same network port, which is traceable back to room 30 on your map.

What was keeping you out? state of the art network security is all. Just smart, sophisticated hacker prevention tools. Nothing else.

Subject: after a long lapse

Sorry, folks. RL has killed me lately, and I've just been sucking in the post department. I finally managed to get one up, and we've woofed ahead. Sorry that you're dropping, Tann, but I understand. I will NPC Kane for now.

My post included Blake's findings in the network. There is really nothing so far to indicate as to what happened. As noted, there are no project-specific files to be found on the servers, or on any resources connected to them.

All but the most minor cold damage has been healed, due to your time indoors.

CPL Hatherford: MIA. Status unknown.
CPL Hart: MIA. Status unknown.

LT Kernan: pretty much unscathed.
WO Blake: minimal combat damage.
SGT Lee: moderate to seriously wounded from combat damage.
PFC Pearson: moderate to seriously wounded from combat damage.
SSG Kane: all but unscathed.
CPL Johannsen: moderate to seriously wounded from combat damage.

Lee, Pearson, and Johannsen can move and fight, but are a bit stiff and slow due to their ijuries. Lee especially may tire quicker than usual if asked to do anything too strenuous. Where's a cleric when you need one?

Subject: woof!

May 9th, 2025 - 1100
Communications Center, Antarctic Research Facility 36, Antarctica

Fortunately for the wounded, Johannsen, with a little help, is able to stabilize the wounded from the cave. There are broken ribs to tape all around, as well as a lundry list of various bumps, bruises, and contusions, but the final score is that all will live. The team is far from fighting fit, but after her initial first aid, there is little for the medic to do but prescribe rest.

As ordered, radio contact with the missing rangers is tried at regular intervals throughout the waiting period, but static is the only response ever received.

Meanwhile, Blake worries away at the stations's servers, trying one subtle attack vector after another. Eventually, the misfit-turned-ranger gets the feeling that it is no longer a matter of "if", but a matter of "when" - and eventually, she is proven correct, as she manages to force her way in and gain full root access to the entire netowrk.

Unfortunately, the fruit of the victory is not as sweet as expected. Blake has full access to all network user accounts, all personnel files, all activity logs, all shared documents. To her great frustration, she discovers that there is zero record ANYWHERE on the network of anything but the most cursory references to the station's research.

On a hunch, the techie checks the network access logs, and a lightbulb flashes on in her head. There are many records of a workstation named "agiles" being connected to various resources. However, that workstation is not currently connected. It is quite possible that the doctor may be keeping the specifics of his research on his own personal computer, rather than saving them to a network location. It's what I would do, Blake muses.
