We have members of the Inn literally from all over the world. My wife suggested to me that it might be fun to compile a listing of locations, and have each member add their name and location to the list.

So here's how it works: copy the following text into your own post, but add your name to the appropriate state (or country). That way, we can keep up by simply reading the last post in the thread.

If your country/province is missing, please add it!

What are some of the stupidest things you have ever heard uttered during a game session (in or out of character)?

Subject: The long awaited map

I am attaching this as a link... feel free to save it to your own PC (right click, save as...). Sorry it took me so long to do!

The key for the map is here in this post. I don't see a blueprint as being secret, and it should help everyone understand what's going on.

ARF36 Key

1. Sheltered Entranceway
2. Main Entrance Foyer
3. Storage Closet
4. Communications Center
5. Mess Hall
6. Sample Storage Area
7. Receiving
8. Loading Dock
9. South Entrance Foyer
10. Staff Quarters
11. Testing Laboratory
12. Auxiallary Laboratory
13. Main Laboratory
14. Restroom & Shower
15. Connecting Passage
16. Observatory
17. Laundry
18. Parts Storage
19. Garage
20. Workshop/Rec Room
21. Exterior Storage Dome
22. Greenhouse
23. Power Station Control
24. Furnace Room
25. Fenced High Voltage Area
26. Water Treatment
27. Circuit Breakers
28. Access Tunnel
29. Auxiallary Laboratory
30. Administrator's Office
31. Restroom
32. Supply Closet
33. Emergency Exit

Please note that there are stairs in four locations... depicted by the stripey lines close together. If you can't find them, let me know. I did not mark whether they went up or down... assume that stairs on the ground level go down, and those in the sublevel go up.

May 8th, 2025
WhiteHorse Military Base, Antarctica - 1322

Charlie is able to pull up the dossiers on the two new team members - nothing special (for this team)... two more well trained, seasoned combat vets with specialties (demolitions and grenadier) that round out the team quite nicely.

At first, Chogan seems reluctant to take Chief Blake to the hanger - it is a classified area, after all. However, Charlie proves to be persuasive; her own security clearance, her rank, her quirkiness, and (probably not the least) her femininity prove enough to convince the young man to take her to hanger six.

When the pair arrive at the hanger, the private holds a finger up to his lips to motion the need for quiet, and gestures for Charlie to stay put. After just a few steps, a voice calls out, "Halt!", followed by the ominous click of an assault rifle being readied for fire.

Chogan chuckles in response. "Jackie, when are you gonna cut that chickenshiite out, man? Who do you think's gonna come in here, the penguins?"

Another private steps out of an alcove, grinning at Chogan. "Chris, you know that Carrolton would skin me if he didn't think I took this seriously. What do you want?"

Chogan plays the part, smooth as butter. "Just lookin' to bum a smoke, man. You got any?"

The guard rolls his eyes as he reaches into a pocket. "Again? You know you can't smoke it here."

"So come outside and smoke one with me. Ain't nobody gonna sneak past you in five minutes' time."

The guard looks back and forth, then nods. The two soldiers file outside, giving Blake five minutes to inspect the hanger.

****************

The hanger is quiet and dark. Using her light, Blake quickly starts moving through the numerous dusty shelves, until she arrives at a nondescript alcove with a small sign that reads 'ARF36'. Dominating the small space, a large metallic freezer sits, humming softly. Scraping away the dust and frost on the freezer’s glass portal, Charlie stares amazed at the contents winthin: the frozen corpse of a monster.

The creature measures almost seven feet in height, and is covered with long, thick, shaggy white hair. It bears many simian features, but it is clearly more than a simple white ape.

Suddenly, Charlie can hear the creak of the outer door, and knows her time is up. Heart pumping, the chief makes her way to safety moments before the guard returns.

...the reason it took so long is that I couldn't simply use a GROUP BY statement in my sql. There are a lot of things going on in this forum, depending on whether or not you are logged in, and on the permission syou are logged in with (user, mod, admin, etc). There are joins going on four or five tables, and a GROUP BY broke it.

So I ended up doing an array with some variables holding check in them, discarding duplicates, until we get to five topics.

Brianna, you are playing a mage, not a warrior. You don't own a bow. Were we around a table right now, you could consider my DM's yellow grudge card played.

Stick to the equipment on your character sheet, do not attempt to manufacture a bow and arrows out of nothing (unless you have the appropriate spell, har har).

In other words, edit your post.

The rest of you, please ignore Val's attempts to shoot as only occuring in the character's mind until such editing occurs.

The sla'kar seems quite impressed by Varuna's attempt to use her tongue. "You sspeak well for drylander," she states to the cleric. "Go, kill dirty humanss. May Sshe who Always Ssteps on Sstones guide your path."

She then reaches to her side and draws a long knife. The reptilian creature turns the weapon around, and holding it by the blade, offers the pommel to Varuna.

Assuming he accepts the gift...

Without another word, the sla'kar dives into the trench off to the right of the path, and disappears beneath the water. Momentarily, you are once again alone.

The going thruhg the swamp is not terribly difficult, but the winding trails keep you from making as much progress as you might otherwise hope. Finally, near dusk, you find the swampy ground giving way to sand and patches of tall grass. You proceed in the general direction of the lighthouse when suddenly, two men in ragged clothing step out from behind a tree.

Spotting you, one of them lets out a shout, and they both break in opposite directions. As they run, they each loose crossbow bolts at you, one of which nicks Tal'Anor!

Arien takes no joy in killing the Green; it occurs to the knight that the man is more than likely simply a man doing what he is told. Even so, the thought does not particularly influence Arien's actions one way or another - the code of knighthood holds that warfare is the flowering of chivalry, and thus, honorable combat is a desirable event, not one to be shirked.

Of course, this is far from textbook honorable combat; the Greens use their insidous poison crossbows, and in turn, Arien's comrades use sorcery. Steel on steel is preferable to such distractions, and Arien is glad to indulge himself in the pursuit of it.

As the Green dies beneath his flaming blade, three more enter - only two of them successful. There is no need to call out direction; each member of the party is doing what they do best. The knight moves to his next foe, intent on clearing this room of opposition so that the party can make their way up the tower, and to Alloryen's aid.

Arien is keeping his same strategy; if the commander is close enough, the knight will attack him, otherwise, he will methodically work his way through the Greens. He will not take advantage of a Green falling in the grease, however - he will only strike down those defeated fairly in battle (unless they give up said right by using other treacherous means, and it becomes necessary to kill indiscriminately to ensure the survival of his comrades).

I just changed the code for the "Last five topics" to group them by topic.

In other words, no more multiples of the same topic up there. If the topic you are posting to is currently #2 on the list, the old way would put your post at #1, the old entry at #3, and drop something off the list. Now, your topic floats back to #1, but nothing drops. That way, more topics get exposure.

Thoughts?

Guys, please check your character sheets - there is no such thing as an "elf" in our game!

Yes, yes - sylvari are our elves. That being said, syls ALWAYS refer to themselves as sylvari. outsiders call them syls for short, perhaps.

Also please note that our half syl was raised among humans. I don't have every sheet right at my fingertips, but I'd wager he doesn't speak sylvari as well as the rest. Be careful of assumptions.

Forgive me for being such an anal DM, but by golly, if I don't have a "common" language, and I don't use generic "gold coins" for currency (don't you love exchange rates?), at least humor me by using the correct names of the races in my world!

The sla'kar regards the party with an unreadable expression for several moments before speaking. "You sspeak truth," it states in a lisping accent. "Came on sship."

It pauses for a moment, almost thoughtfully, before retrieving the thrown javelin from the earth. "Keeperss of the lighthousse have been misssing for one full moon and half of another. Other humanss build tower, firess, kill wariorss." With this last statement, her disposition shifts toward angriness.

The sla'kar fixes En'Aranthea with a reptilian stare. "Beware, ssylvari. Dirty humanss patrol often, keep watch, esspecially around tower. Sstrong wariorss they are, ruthlesss."

Okay, we've all seen them in our games - players who, for whatever reason (news to RPGs? juvenile? sharp as a bologna sandwich?) just don't seem to "get" the point of role playing games. The ones who strive only to kill the monsters, collect the most treasure, earn the most glory - to "win", even though such is impossible in a good RPG. The ones whose characters must be the fastest, the strongest, the best at everything they do.

That's right, the munchkins. Share your tales of munchkinism! Don't be shy, they can be your own (most of us grow out of it, eventually)... or they can simply be things you have witnessed.

Fingers in a jar? Cool!

Yes, your job is to make the game fun, but as DM, you are the final arbiter of everything - don't forget that. If your player says the game won't be fun unless they get a +15 vorpal blade, smack them and go on.

The finger story made me think of a character I once played. Adinar Dulorn, necromancer - and serial killer. Adinar was a genius, but was also disturbed (kinda have to be to WANT to be a necromancer was my line of thinking). Like so many real life serial killers, he liked to target attractive young women, who he would murder after torturing them for an agonizingly long time.

He's then collect pieces of them - some of which he would offer as bloody sacrifices, and a select two items he would keep from each and every victim in a leather pouch he kept on his person at all times. He had a habit of slipping his fingers in the pouch to caress those body parts during regular, everyday activities.

Adinar brought out pieces of my own imagination I was scared to admit existed!

...but he is worth bringing up again.

Once played with a guy who had an incredibly strong, incredibly disgusting, half-troll berserker-type warrior.

Disgusting? Oh, yes. Said character liked to...er... release his carnal frustrations with the corpses of enemies he killed.

As DM, I finally fixed that little habit. The party once defeated several ghouls. Against any sense whatsoever, he proceeded to "enjoy" the corpse of a rotting, diseased, undead monster.

So I felt completely justified in ruling that his character contracted an extremely serious disease that caused his flesh to rot (as well as generally debilitating him via loss of ability scores, etc).

Once he managed to get a cure, he never again practiced that form of "recreation."

One of the very first games I ever DMed featured a guy who wanted to play a blue-skinned, half dwarf, half cloud giant. Yeah.

I wondered how such a match was even physically possible - chromosone differences and other such generic concerns aside - and he came up with "wizard experiment" to justify it.

Actually, the character himself didn't end up too strange, but the concept really was!
