I think you are a little ahead of your time on the tachyon thing, but it's worth a shot. As stated above, we won't be able to reliably detect due to the tachyon detection grid not yet being developed - but that doesn't mean there is nothing to be done.

Some information about the current tactical situation that may be useful in your posts:

1. The Stormspike is, for all intents and purposes, invisible right now to our scanners. We are prior to the development of the tachyon detection grid (circa 2368 ); as such, we do not possess the capability to track a cloaked vessel.

2. Cloaked ships cannot fire and remain cloaked; their shields are also offline while cloaked.

3. The explosion aboard the Coronado appears to be internal in source - they were not attacked from outside.

4. The data seems to suggest that D'lar's claim could be valid - the Stormspike is clearly heavily modified. Seeing as how it is a much older frame, it does not make a lot of sense that your "secret weapon" would start from a position of inferiority - especially knowing what we know about Kuldar culture.

Stardate 2365.02.11
USS Peregrine, Bridge - 1053

"Captain, they are firing disruptors!" Berk interjected. At that moment, purplish energy bolts ripped out from the decloaked ship and slammed into two of the Rytain ships.

Silas swore vehemently. Fortunately, Lieutenant Zai immediately bent to the task at hand.

"Intercept initiated, Captain," Tochi called out despite having not been asked, his fingers flying over the CONN, "Point and grunt, sir, and we're there!"

Inwardly, Silas grinned darkly. A bit quick on that trigger, aren't we? Technically, course changes should only be initiated by the officer in charge, but seeing as this was clearly the proper course of action, the Captain did not see it worth the mention.

"Get us in phaser range as quickly as possible, Lieutenant," he spoke instead. "I'd rather not fire torpedoes in this situation if I can help it."

Lieutenant Lasad spoke up from the Ops station. "Captain," he spoke, "the attacking vessel is transmitting as the KDF Stormspike, a Kuldarian vessel. It seems odd, though - this ship design is at least fifty years out of date - if not more - and the energy signatures make no sense whatsoever. They shouldn't even have the power plant capable of energizing disruptors of that magnitude, let alone operate a cloaking device." Left unspoken was the obvious point that both disruptors and cloaking technology were both beyond everything understood to be with reach of Kuldarian vessels of any type, let alone ancient ones.

The Ops chief continued with his status report. "One of the Rytainian vessels has been destroyed, Captain. The other is badly damaged. The Stormspke is charging for another volley."

The Captain barked out. "Open hailing frequencies again." "Attention, KDF Spormspike! Cease and desist your attack at once, or you will be destroyed! I will not offer another warning."

Suddenly, the Kuldarian vessel disappeared from the viewscreen and from sensors. "Captain," Berk called out, "the enemy vessel has re-cloaked."

***************************************************

Ambassador Threel rose from his seat and, shaking with fury, leveled a finger at D'lar. "You and your treacherous kind! There can be no peace while your murderous species continues to consume oxygen!"

D'lar, for his part, seemed utterly dumbfounded. "This is not an official act of my government, I am certain of this. We came here for a true hope of peace."

"Liar!" Threel spat. "Yet another Kuldarian ambush! Who cares if your government made official sanction of this, the murder is the same!"

D'lar took to his own feet and turned his expression on Drake. "Captain, this is not right. I can assure you that this is not a Kuldarian attack. We see the tactical value in ambushes, I do not deny this, but we did not perform this one."

Threel was now drifting into full apoplexy. "Can you never speak the truth, you filthy cur? The evidence is before us, borne in the blood of my people, once again spilled for no reason!"

The Kuldar raised a hand. "Captain, please, I beg of you - listen to me. I know that this is not a Kuldarian attack - my grandsire served on the Stormspike, but she was lost with all hands some forty years ago while on field operations in Rytainian territory. All of her crew were given burials when I was a child. We searched for her for months, but she was never found, and her last transmission indicated that life support had been breached, that all lives were lost."

"Field operations???" Threel shrieked. "You mean, an attack run to kill Rytainian children! Do not disguise your bloodlust behind flowery words!"

Drake narrowed his eyes. "Enough, Ambassador Threel. You will sit down and be silent, or you will be removed from my bridge." The Captain's tone left no room for argument, and a shaking Threel obeyed.

"Hail the Coronado," the Captain spoke. "Captain Jacobs will need to be informed of this intel."

Suddenly, a smaller alarm sounded, and Lasad looked up, wide eyed. "Captain, I'm detecting a significant explosion aboard the Coronado! I'll need to see the official damage report, but it appears that the explosion may have involved their torpedo launcher! Their shields are holding, but are significantly weakened - they are down to sixty-two percent capacity."

Good to see the post, Brennus! I did take the lberty of two tiny edits - one, I fixed the bolded text, and two, I added "thousand" to the mention of "one hundred fifty kilometers.

I will try to have a post up this weekend!

Eol is threatening a post, and we're hearing that Berk will be posting, too.

Haven't heard anything from Marissa or Lori, so unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to consider Lt. Lasad and Dr. Moore to be NPCs. Obviously, the second they make a peep, they are welcome back.

I'll hold a bit longer before I post again (I'd particularly like a Berk post as he has some knowledge that others won't have yet, and I'd like Tochi because duh), but if we don't see anything by, say, Mondayish, I'll likely bump things along slightly.

According to the vessel's transponder, this is the KDF Stormspike, which is a Kuldarian ship.

Do you think that Berk would know about these? What do you hope to gain?

Write the character as you feel they would be. As long as you aren't Mary Sue-ing things up, we're good.

Romulans and Klingons are both known to have cloaking technology.

Romulans and Ferengi are both known to employ disruptors (though they are not the only ones).

The unidentified vessel appears to by Kuldar in origin, though it is a noticeably older model than the rest of the ships present. The energy signatures are all wrong, however, suggesting some mishmash of technology.

The weapons are far stronger than anything we have come to expect from the Kuldar or Rytain, though the Peregrine easily outclasses this ship.

We are currently outside of phaser range, though within torpedo range.

Other questions, feel free to shoot at me, post in the Q&A, etc.

Stardate 2365.02.11
USS Peregrine, Bridge - 1030

OOC: I'm breaking some normal rules by putting words in a few characters' mouths. Please forgive me, but I'd like this game to return to normal operation seamlessly, and I'm not quite sure yet which players are planning to join us. If you have objections, we can of course edit.

Though his outward expression remained stoic, Silas felt a small tremor of exhilaration - perhaps even of apprehension - as the Peregrine fell out of warp. The momentary shudder of the ship culminated with an explosion of details on the viewscreen as the Sabre class vessel returned to normal space.

Judging from the size of the asteroids in the viewscreen, they had come out of warp a bit closer to the summit site than the crew had intended - and, if he were being honest, a bit closer than Silas would have preferred. The massively extensive asteroid field just screamed "textbook ambush" to Drake, and he would have preferred to have had a better look before approaching so close. But there was little to be done about that now.

"Mister Lasad," the Captain spoke, "give me a full sensor analysis of the surrounding area, paying special attention to the asteroid field."

The handsome operations chief nodded as his fingers flew across his console. "Aye, sir."

"Mister Berk," Drake spoke again, "I want a full breakdown on the disposition of all vessels within sensor range in this system." For the briefest of instants, the tactical chief's gaze met the Captain's before glancing at the ambassadors for an additional split second. The unspoken request by Silas was to determine any potential threats by the Kuldar or Rytain forces, though saying so out loud would of course be considered offensive.

Berk clearly knew what Silas was looking for, however. "Aye, sir," he acknowledged before working on his own console.

"Tochi," the Captain began, "set a course for the rendezvous point, bring us in at one quarter impulse."

The Trill was all business, as was to be expected. "Aye sir," he replied. "Course laid in, engaging impulse engines now."

As the data began to roll in, Silas felt another shiver. "Here we are," he spoke quietly, to no one in particular. "Here's to hope and peace."

KDF Stormspike, Bridge - 1035

Tactical Officer Gullen looked up from his console. "Captain," he spoke, "the Federation vessels have arrived in system and are en route. ETA is fifteen minutes to desired range."

The Captain nodded seriously. "Brothers," he spoke to the small crew, "the moment of our glory has arrived. History will not know our names, but the victory of our people will be built on what we do here today. Strike hard, strike fast, create chaos among them. If we do our duty, we will assure the eventual victory that we so richly deserve against these scum."

He gazed around the room, a serene expression on his face. Raising a fist, he spoke one final time. "Strength and honor."

The handful of crew raised their own fists in reply. "Strength and honor," came the chorus of replies.

Stardate 2365.02.11
USS Peregrine, Bridge - 1050

The Peregrine cleared the asteroid field without incident to reveal the greenish ball of Gamera III, with Gyaos Station - the actual location of the summit - appearing as a small shadow orbiting in front of it. As was fully expected, fleets from both the Rytain and Kuldar had taken up formations in opposing points. While both peoples seemed to follow similar philosophies - ships smaller than even the Peregrine, with crew compliments of probably twenty or fewer (largely due to the fact that neither people had much cause for deep space missions) - there were certainly different design aesthetics at play. The Rytain vessels were constructed of a alloy with a gleaming silver color, and were pointed, yet flowing, in appearance. The Kuldar ships, on the other hand, were much darker in color - a flat, dark gray - with a stubby, thick design.

Sensor data revealed that both fleets were comprised of the newest technology that each people had to offer; this was also no surprise. Neither faction would stomach the slightest loss of face, and neither would dream of deploying outdated, inferior vessels to this important meeting.

Gyaos Station had been signaled, and the two Federation vessels were locked into approach vectors for docking, when suddenly, the excrement hit the air distribution device.

An audible alarm sounded, jostling Drake from his thoughts. "Captain," Berk's voice rang out. "An unidentified vessel has just decloaked near the Rytainian fleet, and is on an intercept vector with them! Range, four hundred twenty thousand kilometers. Heading one hundred forty degrees, mark one one five."

The TAC officer's voice was tight. "Sir, they appear to be charging weapons."

Silas felt the surge of adrenaline hit him like a wall of electricity. "Red alert!" He barked. "Shields up! Bring our own weapon systems online, and prepare to fire."

Why would a lone vessel execute an attack like this? he wondered internally. And a cloaked vessel, at that? Certainly, this was technology far beyond the Kuldar or the Rytain.

"I want that ship onscreen, and give me a sensor breakdown of it right now," the Captain ordered. "Open hailing frequencies," he continued, his own voice clipped.

"Attention, unidentified vessel," he began in a stern tone as the viewscreen shifted to a magnified view of the aggressor. "This is Commander Silas Drake of the USS Peregrine. I hereby order you to..."

"Captain, they are firing disruptors!" Berk interjected. At that moment, purplish energy bolts ripped out from the decloaked ship and slammed into two of the Rytain ships.

Here is the typical breakdown of responsibilities among the bridge duty stations.

Operations: Primary sensor operation. Primary communications operation. Responsible for power distribution ("boost power to the shields, mister Jones!"). Responsible for coordination of damage control teams and efforts. Secondary for shield operation, due to the ability to allocate power. Operation of tractor beams. Secondary for the launching of sensor probes.

Tactical: Primary responsibility for shield operation. Responsible for the firing of weapons (phasers and torpedoes). Analysis of sensor data for potential threats. Analysis of sensor data for firing solutions. Responsible for changing the ship's alert state (green, yellow, red). Secondary for communications (the ability is here, but is typically the job of operations). Responsible for coordination of internal security.

Helm: Responsible for all actual navigation and flight of the ship. Responsible for coordination of all shuttle operations.

Science: Primary for the launching of all sensor probes. Analysis of sensor data for a wide spectrum of data. Integrates with other departments to enhance and assist in the completion of their duties.
