Topic: Olan out for a week
Subject: Olan out for a week

Just an FYI, folks - I am leaving Friday at noon to drive ten and a half hours to Orlando, where I shall take my family to visit Mickey and friends at Walt Disney World. I will not be back until the Monday before Thanksgiving.

I intent to make a Hidden Evil update before I go, which will leave us with just a couple of days of of the once per week rule (though I intend to post more often in the typical situation if at all possible).

Subject: heh

That character idea *is* awesome, Celeste... and you sound like a total perv, Eol.

When I was in high school, I ran a D&D game for some buddies. One was totally new to D&D, and wanted to be a troll.

I wouldn't allow it, though I ended up letting him play a half troll. Extreme strength, very slow regenerate... yeah, munchkinism at its finest.

He played the guy as a bit of a psycho, though. I recall his cutting a ghoul in half with his greataxe (i.e. critical hit when the thing was low on HP). He then informed us that, post battle, his character would celebrate by sodomizing the lower half of the ghoul's corpse.

This caused revulsion from the other players (his intention, I'm sure). I let him do it, but advised him that he's contracted a rotting disease from violating an undead corpse.

Yep, he never did that again.

It's nice to know, as a general rule, how your character will carry themselves in combat. That gives me something to fall back in if need be.

However, if you can post some intentions in your game posts as Eol mentions, that will be ideal. In other words, what your intentions are for the immediate situation, then how you'd like to proceed if a happens, perhaps a fallback if b happens.

Thanks! Loving the posting so far.

Loving the posting so far, folks!

One request, if you please - ideally, I'd like for you to post a few rounds' worth of strategy at a given time. If we take a week to resolve every combat round, the game will take a very long time, indeed.

For some, this will be easier than for others, I realize that. It would be a good idea if I know your character's basic strategy in various situations.

For instance, if your character has both melee and missile weapons, which do they prefer? Do they take a shot or two, then close to melee, or do they avoid it unless there is no other choice? Do they keep firing, regardless of ammo expended, or do they hold off if it looks like the fight is in hand?

If a spellcaster, what are the favorite spells and strategies? Do they use magic to blast, to support? Do they prefer to conserve spells if possible?

If a melee warrior, do they press the advantage, fight defensively, screen the spellcasters, etc?

Thanks!

Jarenion will have probably warned the party of what his spell uncovered, so you will certainly not be surprised (at least not in game mechanics terms).

However, the spell does not have enough range to have prevented this encounter, either, so I feel comfortable in posting what I have.

Subject: saying hello

Cautiously, everyone in the party moves forward. For their part, the other travelers continue to walk in their labored, shuffling pace, heads down, as if they are oblivious to any reaction that the party might have - or indeed, that they exist whatsoever.

Once the other party is close enough, Jarenion mutters his incantation, and the results are unsettling, to say the least. Each of these travelers has a faint aura of necromancy about them. Nothing powerful, nothing that feels like active magic of any kind... more of dank taint, a "taste" to their aura.

The hot, sticky night seems to draw even closer, the fog seems to thicken even more, to the point that the atmosphere is positively stifling and oppressive. As the two groups draw even closer on the road, a twig snaps loudly under Ta'Arms' boot, and the other travelers look up, fixing their gazes in his direction.

It is a scene from a nightmare.

Their flesh is a pale, greenish-gray - where it still remains whole. In many places, skin and flesh alike hang loose or are missing entirely, revealing bone underneath. The eyes are wide and empty, staring vacantly (provided that the eyes are not missing altogether); yet somehow, you instinctively know that these abominations can see you quite clearly.

One creature seems to be in much better physical condition than the others. Where the majority seem to be slow, awkward, animated corpses shuffling along... this one is different. It appears to be a twisted mockery of a human, but it does not seem to be in the same state of decay as the others. It grins broadly, revealing a mouth full of crooked fangs, then begins giggling in a maniacal fashion.

Now, there can be no doubt as to the intentions of these travelers. As one, the undead creatures groan and move to attack!

Sure, why not?

This thread probably fits better in gaming surveys, but that's okay. (Moved this to surveys then noticed your post...awkward. -- Grugglington IV)

I think you get a lot of hate from rollplayers (note the spelling) due to the fact that they aren't good at anything. If you want to optimize your build, a bard causes you to wake up in cold sweats.

Note that I throw rocks at those kinds of players, but there it is.

The best I can do this week, I believe, is seven. Which is pathetic.

Also, I really, really, REALLY hate the Bengals. I am seriously flipping a coin on them for the rest of the year. No matter what I pick for them, they do the opposite.

I dunno, Grugg. Looks like my entire lead is evaporating this week. St. Louis? Jacksonville? Really?

And of course, the Bengals are screwing me, AGAIN. I'm going to start flipping a coin for them in future weeks.

I'll get a spell list to you shortly, Tuned_Out.

Do note that I do not require you to prepare specific spells. If you pray for spells every day, you may cast any spell that you have access to, provided you have the materials for it.

Assume you have enough typical components to cast any of your spells ten times. If you have a spell that requires truly expensive components (such as augury), check with me before trying to cast it.

It's of course completely up to you guys, but typically in a group with this composition, you'd have two warriors up front and one in the back as a rearguard. Ideally, the rearguard would be someone with a missile weapon, though it's not a big deal for them to charge up to melee if there is no threat from the back.

Your mage would be in the very middle of the formation, with the rogue and clerics acting as a buffer to the front and back of him.

Of course, if you *know* that there is no threat from behind, the muscle would all go up front, then clerics, rogue, and mage at the very back.

But those are just common alignments... it your party, feel free to organize it any way you see fit.

Topic: Letters from Santa!
Subject: Letters from Santa

It's that time again. Time to be thinking about Christmas. Time for the little ones to send letters to Santa Claus.

As some of you know, every year, I help Santa to send letters back to kids. You might remember (I'm guessing that you were a kid once), but getting a piece of mail is a big thing when life hasn't jaded you with bills and junk mail... and a letter from Santa himself is pretty darned magical. Note that orders made before December 13th get the extra cool postmark from Santa Claus, Indiana.

Every letter is composed specifically for that child, is printed on some nice Christmas stationary, and is hand signed by Santa himself. And yes, I do offer some extras, such as reindeer food and nice list certificates, if you are interested in such. Heck, I also help with letters to grownups, and have even done two letters to dogs.

Several years and hundreds of letters later, I have to admit that it's still a really fun thing to do.

If you have kids, or know someone who does, please visit Santa4Me.com (or send the link to them, whichever applies).

Thanks, folks.

Just wanted to let you all know that Kyle will, in fact, be joining us with his human male fighter, Ta'Arms.

I see no reason why he could not have met up with the human portion of the party in the past; indeed, he may also have been the sort that would have benefitted from some of the charity from followers of Falloes and Merca.

Or, alternately, he could have met Fae as far back as in her military service.

Now, all that being said... folks, the floor is open. Feel free to post to the game thread, even though I don't have all character sheets finished up yet.

Please note that everyone's character may own one potion of your choosing... though I reserve veto power. If you try to really cheese things out (potion of superheroism, potion of titan strength, etc), I reserve the right to deny you a potion, period.

I'm thinking things like potions of cure light wounds, potions of invisibility, and similarly powered items.
