Today, my dear daughter, PrincessAli, turns sixteen. Man, that doesn't seem possible.

Happy birthday, boo bear.

Useless NOW? When has she ever been anything else?

Did forget about Bran and Rickon. I don't see Bran becoming an actual lord of the north, though.

I am aware of the path Arya has taken; I don't see this leading to her being a viable candidate to picking up the mantle of the North.

And Sansa? Blech. She's been useless since day one. I've never liked her, she's too much like a Lannister.

Of course, this ignores the fact that there pretty much HAS to be a male heir, or there is no more House Stark, anyway.

I had really decicided that Jon was going to be the hope for the North, considering that Robb had made arrangements to legitimize him and set him up as heir to House Stark prior to the Red Wedding.

I was expecting conflict from the various oaths and duties (quite obviously, the Black being a huge issue), but was thinking that these would be minor in the fact of all the terrible crap to come... to me, the threat from beyond the wall feels like it will make the war for the throne look like a squabble among children.

If Jon truly is dead... what then? I agree that Danaerys has to be a major player; if she dies, that whole branch of the story dies... but darn it, I WANT a Stark!

Topic: Paranoia: Adventures in Clonesitting
Subject: pressing on

Once a marching order is assigned, the team moves forward into the low tunnel. Sadly, Slipp's match burns out, as there is no useful fuel to keep the flame lit.

As you press on, you notice several things:

1. The celing slowly gets lower and lower.
2. The water level slowly gets deeper and deeper while the water grows thicker.
3. The stench gets worse and worse.

Eventually, you find yourselves hunched over, basically on hands and knees, under a three foot high celing while keeping your heads above a foot and a half of truly foul liquid. You try to ignore the solids that are floating in the liquid, and the thick sludge at the bottom of the corridor here in SWR Sector.

Finally, you reach the end of the corridor, and as fate would have it, there actually is a small amount of red light given off by an emergency light. As you pause, a monitor slowly rises out of the muck with a sickening "SLUCK" sound. Then, Friend Computer's voice - or rather, a horribly tinny, distorted version of it - speaks from the sludge-covered monitor at a volume loud enough to almost cause physical pain.

Seriously, this game is... what, six years behind schedule? I fear Duke Nukemitis... they are SO far behind that no matter what they do, the game cannot possibly live up to the hype.

I loved Guild Wars, but I just don't see GW2 ever mattering.

I may not be a potential felon much longer. Alabama's state house approved the homebrew legalization bill yetserday, making us state #49 in the union to repeal our Prohibition-era law. You know, that's been here since the 1920s.

Of course, it has to pass the Senate (which it has th epast two years, the House was the stumbling block) and be signed by the governor.

Yay, we might beat Mississippi!

I disagree with Admiral... but he and I disagree on everything, so don't worry about that.

I say to use the ruleset you are most comfortable with, unless your players just cannot handle it - and you think that you can.

Bottom line, though, is that you need to focus on your story first, then fill the rules in around it. You can absolutely play D&D by worrying about the rules all of the time, but you'll all have more fun if you don't focus on the rules themselves.

Sadly, yes. He tried this.

Another gem? He and his buddy decided to copy the bit off of the movie "Grown Ups" - where they shoot an straight up into the air, then see who is brave enough to stay in the original spot the longest.

We had to talk about bow & arrow safety.

Kids are hard to really break.

It was a silly freak accident... but the boy has a serious karmic debt in terms of stitches. This is the kid that could not understand why I was so against him shooting a bow while riding down a hill in a wagon.
