Hmm... hrmmm... so for record, given that she went down in combat, what's the status of her sword?

Also if anything that's more cause for nervousness; I don't want to let you down!

It's rather funny how this all works out, too. I just recently had an itch to make some form of blade dancer character.

I know a bladesinger is not the same, but in themes they are related, and I've generally had an affinity for Elven/Sylvari characters.

Happy that she's making a good impact so quickly I can't help but feel nervous stepping in to fill in an already existing character. Though, incidentally, that's exactly what I did when I first started on the Inn.

P.S. You are scarily fast Eol

Topic: The Corruption Hidden Beneath the Surface...
Subject:

Before dawn, Aranwen stood awake near the edge of camp, one hand upon her breast as she looked out upon the wilderness, the other upon the tree next to her to keep her steady. She looked towards the flickers of the pyre burning in the distance. Her gaze was distant, and those distant flickers of orange and red glinted in her viridian eyes. Her hand shook as she replayed the battle in her mind's eye, following her movements and those she remembered of the foes surrounding them. Doing her best to recall her form, and the song of her blade at the time. Up until she succumbed to her wounds, and fell.

If things had been even just a bit different, might she have been on that pyre as well? That was one thing that never changed over all her years. That delicate dance with death.

But the battle had been won, and she had put all she could into her blade, that she might keep safe her allies. She couldn't ask herself of more, so she smiled, and breathed. Stagnant though the air was, it couldn't completely hide the morning dew she came to enjoy in these early hours.

"Adaron, make good what good there is left to take of these worldly forms," She prayed, "That death may give way to renewal, and see life flourish again."

She kept watch until the day broke proper.

* * *

"So, will you be joining us?"

Aranwen nodded, "This is certainly not something we can afford to ignore," She gave a warm smile to Davena, "And if anything, I welcome the opportunity to repay the aid lent by you both."

"Normally, for scouting I'd suggest we cover more ground to quicker understand our adversary," She mused, "But given recent experiences, we place ourselves in greater danger splitting up, even should we keep to groups of two or three. They lose nothing throwing the dead at us should we give them the opportunity, while we stand to lose far more. Naturally, staying together has its drawbacks as well. Those lighter on foot can't make good on their agility, and we're easier to spot. So I feel a blend of the two is more appropriate here - Gib, Cedric, Midge and I will be part of the supporting guard, while Kithran and Ch'dau as the advance lend their eyes to scout and examine the nearby area. We travel together, close enough so the advance can comfortably fall back to the support should they encounter anything, or should anything encounter the support."

(( Making some assumptions here because I'm not completely familiar with everyone's capabilities ))

"Any questions, observations, or suggestions?"

Thank you very much, Eol and Olan. I just figured I was going to start as is with Aranwen from my post forward; I certainly didn't have this in mind when I said 'retcon'

Given it's 2E and customized setting I can't be entirely certain and don't trust my memory - do Sylvari require the same amount of 'sleep' as normal for most species? Or is it the shorter trance?

Ahead of you there, Olan; according to the name generator you have, 'Aran' is a first part that is used in both male and female names. So the easist thing to do is switching the second part.

If I go by second parts I see the generator using, Aranwen seems to be the most visibly similar to Arancon.

Butterfly present,

And happy to be here

For the record, I may have to swap Arancon's gender, just because one of my limitations I've found is getting into the headspace of a male character. It's like trying to use a zip disk in a cd drive for me.

Easiest thing to do might be to just do the 'character was always this way' retcon, unless Olan would like an opportunity to have Aranwen claimed by something spooky and replaced by his counterpart in the same event (mirrors and shadows come to mind...) I imagine that doesn't fit in this flavour of spookiness though.

All these I've made have been carved out of extruded polystyrene foam (insulation board). I do the carving with exacto blades and other knives. Once the basic shape is done, I have the option of either using a layer of cheesecloth glue/water and a layer of plaster to harden the prop (which is more important for the larger ones given their fragility), or sealing with a coat of glue. Last step is painting with acryllics, and I use outdoor-use acryllic paint for good measure

I have been neglectful in time keeping. My job's responsibilities have grown, and I have additional things beyond that job, leaving one burnt out butterfly.

I sincerely apologize to everyone. I should have known this would occur.

Needless to say, I'm just not in a position to return properly yet, and I am sorry for taking up people's time and hopes.

Please take care,

First thing, Silent Pluto is not orbiting Pluto

The name is more in regards to the station's remote location relatively close to the edge of the galaxy in the typhon (I think that's the name... I'll check the map later...) region.

Secondly, engineering and science is significantly larger on the Hexatris than typical steamrunner vessels. It's fighter allocation is probably reduced to 2/3, maybe even half normal capacity for the additional labs, one of which being an engineering lab for making adjustments to prototype shuttles and equipment (good to do small scale tests before increasing scale after all)

Once I check what we're at in terms of the roster, we might be good to get started and if so I'll see if I can kick us off this weekend.

I'd be happy to have you as TAC

Looks like we're getting close...

Please feel free to add your character profiles to the Hexatris roster (hopefully the character addition should work now... while logged in, if you mouse-over the roster link, it should provide an 'add character' link)

In addition, feel free to add some minor characters under your command, within reason. As senior officers, they'll certainly be doing things a fair amount of the time, but they'll also have a team to delegate work to as appropriate. I'd suggest adding at least a couple 'seconds' depending on your position, to be able to accomodate for the Starfleet standard three shift schedule between the characters.

They'll need to sleep some time after all. Unless they're a hologram. But we're not Voyager

Multiple science officers would be preferred, but not strictly necessary. At least one though.

Tactical Officer as well as Helmsman will both be very important.

As far as the easiest to fill as an NPC goes, I'm feeling that'd probably be ops.

So, let me break down the positions and prospective players I've received word from so far

We have crowe with a concept for Chief Engineering Officer

We have Keeper with a concept for Chief Medical Officer

We have MagicMan65 with a concept for Counsellor

And might also have Pencilneckgeek for a member of security/tactical

Work's been keeping me busy, but let me try to get back to everyone so far.

Silent Pluto, stardate 2364.10.20

"Have you heard?" Tina whispered, "Kale's discovery?"

The woman beside her chuckled, retrieving her filled cup from the replicator, "Who hasn't at this point?"

"Well, what do you think, ma'am?" Tina asked, putting her own cup in the recepticle, "Coffee, two sugar."

"I understand that we are both a listening post as well as a research station. It's premature to make any conclusions at this point," Lt. Ari replied.

"Come on, don't tell me you also think it might just be a new civilization reaching warp technology," Tina groaned, "Kale told me the readings are similar but don't match any known warp technology."

"I did not say that," Lt. Ari quickly added, "But for the record, yes, I do hope that is what it is. Or a sensor glitch. Egil's research, on the other hand, we might be able to use that to improve warp core stability. Not by much, granted, but it all helps."

As Tina rolled her eyes, a tremor shook the station, knocking the two off their feet. They did not hit the ground. The lights flashed red.

Struggling with the lack of gravity, Lt. Ari tapped her com, =/=Ari to command center, what the hell was that?!=/=

=/=Massive damage! Hull breach floors 6 through 17! No response from engineering! Artificial gravity and most systems offline!=/=

"Ma'am!" Tina called from where she had floated, near the window.

Pushing off of the wall with her feet, Lt. Ari moved to the window as well, her eyes widening in disbelief.

"Wh-what is that!?"

Captain’s log, Stardate 2364.10.23

We’ve lost contact with the Silent Pluto station. Starfleet has ordered that the USS Hexatris remain at our current location for now, where we await reconfiguration of our vessel and new crewmembers before beginning our mission to investigate the cause.

It is concerning that there is literally nothing to use to formulate any manner of hypothesis. Subspace communications went dark, with no communications received or answered, even scheduled ones. I’ve relayed to the crew the importance of not spreading rumours at this time, but the atmosphere is tense. We’ve been on our previous assignment for some time now, assisting the Silent Pluto station with scheduled supply runs and research, as well as patrol of the nearby section of the Neutral Zone border. We all have friends and colleagues at that station.

Silent Pluto is not the only station reported to have contact loss, either. Multiple stations and listening posts near the edge of the galaxy that also border the Neutral Zone are no longer in contact, with not even a distress signal received. Other patrols report increased Romulan activity nearby as well...

I just hope we can get to the bottom of this before misunderstandings cloud the judgement of either of our organizations.

* * *

Yes, the rumours (by which I mean the email) was true. I am putting together a Star Trek game, and I believe I've put together enough notes to be able to start proper.

Characters will be joining or a part of the crew of the USS Hexatris, a steamrunner class vessel whose original assignment prior to the start of this game are as follows:

  • Escort of supplies and personnel to and from the Silent Pluto station

  • Assistence in acquisition and containment of mineral samples studied at the Silent Pluto station

  • General patrol given the proximity of the Neutral Zone border

This has changed quite suddenly with communcations going dark between Starbase 39-Sierra to Silent Pluto, and other Starbases confirm communication loss with other outposts near the edge of the galaxy, prompting Starfleet to take immediate action and order investigation into the cause. The USS Hexatris, already having familiarity with the region, is a natural choice as one of these scouts.

Characters will be serving under Commander Leiran, a captain with a background as a science officer. Characters will either have been part of the crew for some time, or newcomers being reassigned due to the urgency of the situation. Newcomers will generally be tactical and security personnel, but that is not a strict limitation.

Current major positions include:

Chief Tactical Officer - Bromern Sal
Chief Engineer - Crowe
Chief Operations Officer
Chief Bioscience Officer
Chief Minerology Officer
Chief Flight Control Officer
Chief Medical Officer - Keeper of Dragons

Counsellor - MagickMan65

This is not a strictly exhaustive list; feel free to propose other character roles.

Sorry for the wait, and I hope to create a satisfying story for everyone involved

Unfortunately, the other side of the screen has demanded most of my attention for some time, especially most recently. Just thought I'd share some of my creations with the Inn

Physical creations, props and crafts of things that don't otherwise exist in reality. Synthesis of a dream - dreamsynthesis. Or that's what I like to call it

Let's start off with the first: Blackbosom Scythe

Time taken: About a month on and off working on it, just in time for Halloween that year.

Dimensions: 4' x 2' about in the largest dimensions

Source: FFXIV - Scythe wielded by Edda Blackbosom, boss encountered at floor 50 of the Palace of the Dead

For being the first, I'm still surprised I was able to make it to the level of quality that I did. There's still a number of things I would have liked to have been able to do with it, but all in all it worked quite nicely.

Second, I made these Star Wars Holocrons

Time taken: About a week each

Dimensions: About 5 inches in any given dimension

Source: Star Wars

I'm quite happy with how these turned out and the learning experience they provided with finer detail work than was done with the scythe, namely learning how to do the engraving and purchasing the appropriate tools for it.

Thirdly, in preparation for Halloween of this year, I made the Parallel Falchion

Time taken: A couple of weeks

Dimensions: 4' by 6 inches about in the largest dimensions

Source: Fire Emblem Awakening

The ability to engrave and do finer detail work really paid off with this prop, even if it's not exactly visible in the wide shot. A close up of the guard and handle is needed to show that part of the piece It's still just short of the quality that I want it to be at, particularly the finishing texture on the blade and prop in general, with some of it being smooth but not all of it, but I'm getting close...

And most recently I made a few different stones, or crystals

Time taken: A couple of days altogether for each

Dimensions: Less than 5 inches across for each

Source: FFXIV - Job Change Soul Crystals

Following up with learning how to do smaller scale items and details, I wanted to learn more paint effects I could use for finishing these, and the soul crystals from FFXIV worked well as an exercise. Although primarily one colour, multiple effects are layered on in an attempt to give it a more complicated appearance, fitting the stone/crystal that they are supposed to represent. The one for me is the Scholar soul crystal, because fairies

That's all for now from the workshop of the fairy, but I may add more in the future

Kyrie stared down the wight as it recoiled from the light.

"You've stayed in the night far too long. It's time to let go; dawn awaits," She told the lost knight

After the ordeal was over, she took a breath and looked over to her companions, "How's everyone doing?"

How would she come to describe it, later on? Truthfully, she couldn't put words to what she felt when the weight attacked. But it was unpleasant. Very unpleasant.

She knew without a doubt she had to make sure that did not happen to anyone else.

"Stay close to me!" She called out, hefting her shield, already alight with a divine glow, and intensifying in strength as she channelled her will to protect through it, the glow spreading outward to hover around the others as she moved to be in arm's reach as many of them as she could.

Kyrie knew better than to pursue the two that had fled. She might be hard to stop, but she was not exactly fast.

"In the end, you hurt your followers more than we did," She observed to the unconscious Niska with a sniff of disdain. But first, her duties saw her look after others before herself. Moving up to the altar, Kyrie placed a hand on Tanya's shoulder, feeling the life swell through her touch and helping to rejuvenate her, "We're here," she told Tanya softly, undoing her cloak to drape it around Tanya.

She gave a gentle smile, "Let's get you home,"

Kyrie shook her head, the motion giving a few cascading metallic clinks with her armour, as she looked between Jhod and Sootscale, "This is not like Tanya. And if the midwife has left as well, I'd think it was to take care of Tanya. If we treat a guest or a patient, we don't leave them if they need us," She reasoned, "No reason to leave, so something made her leave. And if she needs protection, I am not going to stop until I get between her and whatever she needs protection from," She nodded in resolution, clapping her armoured gauntlets together.

"Sound good?" She asked with an earnest smile.
