Sounds fine to me... gives 10 minutes outside of elevator time to get to the hanger and finish other preparations... *nods*

Subject: Seems familiar...

I know I've been in a few similar situations... and I know I'll probably be in more in the future

One situation in particular comes to mind... where a Neutral Good Druid was trying to convince my True Neutral Ranger to go out of their way and rescue some captives from a goblin camp. Naturally, my character wasn't convinced, not because they didn't care... but rather because they were concerned about the goblins pursuing and causing a lot of damage to the forest that she was protecting.

Oh, did I mention a couple of those captives were other player characters that my character hadn't met?

Yep... playing in character is good... but sometimes it comes at the cost of these sorts of situations... oh well, what can you do?

To clarify, in the situation above, it was nighttime, so the goblins were sure to be using torches if they pursued.

Thank you all, I always get a little bit nervous when I spring a particularly unorthodox character on the group of players

Just a few general things about Alice for the interested.

Alice is an Immortal Child (pretty obvious... taking three bullets), but is also Tainted, which gives her the ability 'Mudoon' (Wishkill under Death Mastery of the Necromantic powers). I decided that, although it said immortals can't use those powers with their Essence, it didn't say anything regarding Taint, and so she uses it unconsciously via Taint.

Her Essence and Taint pools are 75 and 30, respectively, but her aura of Taint is more noticeable than her considerable Essence amount; it's pretty much easily noticed even by mundanes, since it IS Taint.

Alice is also slightly vampiric; she doesn't regain Essence points naturally, and instead absorbs Essence much like a vampire, which is Essence released through strong emotions and feelings by Gifted or Mundane alike. The 'sweetness' she senses in her post is kind of my artistic representation of this. She needs to spend at least 5 essence points per day in order to maintain her physical form; if she doesn't, then to others, she'd feel very cold, and she'd feel as though she doesn't have a pulse. This aspect comes not from a vampiric nature, but rather from Taint Decay.

The tattoo on her forehead is a Taint Mark, so isn't something most people like to see or look at, and her wings are quite apparently Taint Limbs. However, I haven't decided if she'd be able to fly or not; I know the book says the limbs are mainly useless, but it might be kind of interesting if she was able to fly... I don't know, kinda open to discussion on this.

And now, a bit more on her appearance...

Alice looks very much like a porcelain doll, with very pale skin, blond hair and blue eyes. She wears a blue gothic-lolita style dress, and as you can tell, has a few Tainted features that mark her quite clearly to both Mundane and Gifted alike.

I believe that's about it so far...

I'm glad you all like her

Karra was getting nervous. She knew better than to hope that Ara would hurry, since haste never helped, but she couldn't help but get more nervous the more time passed. What if Ara was caught? What if...

Stop it, she told herself firmly, if you start with the 'what ifs', you'll be a nervous wreck when everything is ready to begin with.

Her ears twitched as she heard footsteps approaching. Ara? No... there was more than one set of footsteps... not good.

She wasn't exactly sure whether to be happy that these guys weren't stormtroopers or not, since they were hard to read. Still, if they were hospitable enough that they only cared if she and the others stayed and got in their way, then that hopefully meant that they wouldn't just fire at their backs.

"I'm going." Karra said, loud enough for everyone to hear her.

With that, she slings her medical backpack onto her back, before grabbing Ara's bag and starting to walk out.

Tip... toe... tip... toe...

The blond haired girl skipped merrily down the maze of alleys, not noticing or caring in the least that she was both pursuing and being pursued. She could hear the footsteps and harsh breathing of the man running away from her, not that it did any good. They were playing tag after all, and she always won. Not only that, but he was pretending to be afraid of her, which left such a sweet, refreshing scent in the air.

She suddenly pirouetted on the tip of her ballet slipper, a graceful spin made grotesque by the two... things... on her back. To the sane mind, one appeared to be a scarred, leathery wing, while the other appeared to be the remnants, just the bones of another. In truth, they weren't either of those things, but their true nature was beyond the mind's comprehension. Likewise, a tattoo on her forehead glittered and shifted. It appeared to be a neon green diamond with one bright red line reminiscent of an archaic minute hand. If one watched carefully, although doing so was strangely uncomfortable, they could swear that the hand moved of its own accord.

She grimaced as her pursuers came closer. They reeked of mint and black pepper.

"If you want to play tag with me, you'll have to take a shower first!" The girl said, wagging her finger at them even as they raised their pistols.

"Can it girl, or whatever the hell you are." One said toughly, even though his hands were notably shaking.

"Y-yeah, n-no one gets away with t-taking out our boss." The other stuttered, although his grip was shaking less than the other's.

The girl blinked. What were they-

BANG BANG

The two men squeezed the triggers in unison. The girl pirouetted, so one hit her in the leathery wing, but the other hit her directly in the middle of the strange tattoo upon her forehead.

"Good shot." The one man meant to say, but he wasn't even able to get the first syllable beyond his lips.

"OW!!! That really hurt!" The girl screamed and, despite her obvious pain, she remained standing. To her, one of the hits felt like a needle, but one that was crooked and askew, while the other felt like a hit with a baseball bat. The leathery wing twitched violently, flaring just slightly and mirrored by the other.

Unable to take the strangeness of the situation, the men faltered. They could've sworn that those wings were just a costume piece. Especially a gothic costume, considering the girl's lolita-style blue dress, as well as her rather pale skin.

In the girl's mind, a memory vaguely emerged. A warm, soothing voice.

"Alice, if people aren't playing nice with you, you should just tell them to go away."

Nodding to herself, Alice did just that.

"You're mean! Go away!"

The man that fired went pale, and he suddenly dropped his gun as he felt something cleave his heart in two. Something that strangely felt like a scythe.

Seeing his partner fall for no apparent reason, the other man's nerve broke, but instead of running, he let loose another two bullets. One went wide in his haste, but the other hit Alice soundly in the shoulder.

"OW!! I told you to GO AWAY!!!" Alice screamed.

The remaining man didn't even have time to gasp as he felt his life suddenly quenched by the Reaper. His body fell limply to the ground.

Now alone, Alice took in a deep breath. There was something sweet in the air... and it seemed to make her feel a bit better.

Standing up, since she had fallen, Alice dusted off her skirt.

"I guess I'll head home if no one wants to play with me..."

Alice began heading down a different alley, half singing, half murmuring.

Clock hands that come together,
Like our hands in rainy weather,
When they meet I'll look for you,
That was the promise, I remember too.
Where've you been all this while?
Do you no longer want to see me smile?
Your pretty aura I will find,
That sparkling of the sun out-shined,
How long has it been? I guess it's okay,
After all, maybe I'll find you today.

Reaching her 'home', which was really nothing more than an abandoned orphanage, Alice sat on her bed and wondered.

"Jen... you promised that you'd play with me forever... but... where did you go?"

Shaking her head, Alice lifted her hand, and felt her forehead. It throbbed still, but there was no sign of the bullet hole left. The same held true for the wounds in her shoulder and wing. However, her dress on the other hand was a mess, torn where she was hit in the shoulder, and also stained with her blood.

Alice sighed. "Looks like I'm going to have to fix my dress again..."

With that, she changed into her nightgown, and began washing her dress. She closed her eyes for a moment, imagining her mother's voice.

"My little angel, what's wrong?"

"I was good..." Alice murmured, "I'm a good angel... but why doesn't anyone like me?"

Alice scuffed her feet on the floor as she went over to her sewing kit, considering the threads and fabric within it. It looked like she would have to restock soon...

Since our characters have 15 points more than the standard, how about 25 for the villains? That easily puts them at a higher level than our normal characters, but hopefully not so much that it'd be beyond our character's capabilities.

I can't say much regarding the girl from the Ring, since I don't know that movie, but I'm pretty sure Alice might at least look, if not act, stranger... but again, I don't know that movie ^^;

Janelle has both a rapier and a fencing foil.
She often carries a handbag that holds the following:
-Sketchbook (usually half-filled with drawings or so, unless it's new)
-Mechanical pencil
-Eraser
-Makeup (not much; just blush a slight shade redder than her natural skin tone, foundation, violet nail polish, and sometimes a dark blue eyeshadow and lipstick)
-Mirror (to apply the makeup)
-Purse (usually carries no more than $30 in cash, but has change and her debit card)
Another key thing to note is her wristwatch is digital (related to her Weird Delusion)

Janelle's Weird Delusion: Analog Clock Hands

This delusion is based on this poem I wrote:

When the clock hands unite, whether it is day or night,
Expect the unexpected, or you'll be in for a fright.
Midnight and noon, the special times when the hands unite,
If you don't hide, become aware of the half-hour of plight.
However, when the hands balance, and are opposite on the clock's face,
The world has shifted to become a better place.
The chime of six, at either part of the day,
Begets a change that could benefit either way.
But in places with clocks that lack their own arms,
People are not affected by their swaying charms.
Clock hands that are plain are less liable to this effect,
And only 6 and 12 bring out any change that will affect.
Clock hands that are ornate are an entirely different case,
For whether it is major or minor, they will change reality's face.
Finally, for those clocks that exist that are missing an arm,
Beware those the most, for they will only bring about harm!

From that, I think you can kind of tell Janelle's application of it: she'll have a tendency to glance at other's watches or clocks to see if they're analog or digital, give them warnings if it is analog, and particularly avoid analog clocks at noon and midnight.

Background/Description

What is normal? Does it have specifics? Is it something that exists? Can it even be defined? If only she could have been normal, perhaps things would be alright. To live, oblivious of the things around her that did not make sense. Well, alright, that's ignorance, rather than bliss.

Janelle preferred to live a normal life, whatever that meant. For her, normal was getting involved with her two teams, both of them sports, one gymnastics, the other fencing. To her, normal was to avoid the stroke of noon and midnight by analog clocks. To compete in tournaments and competitions for both of her teams, as a star athlete. To sketch in her sketchbook when she felt like it. In any case, for her, normal meant ignoring the power she had long concealed.

As far as Janelle can remember, she always had this ability, the power to heal. However, despite the fact she had the ability, she never once used it. No, it made her too different, and that was something she couldn't bear. Not only that, but she would be used; people would abuse her power, and she did not want that either. True, her own natural abilities were being exploited by the two teams she was involved in, but that was normal, and acceptable. To be exploited as a supernatural healer was something she couldn't bear to think about.

Still, the fact that she had that power often did scream at her to do something, especially in fencing and gymnastic tournaments where people can get injured from competing. There was something in the back of her mind that makes her want to go out of her way to help, despite the risks associated with it. Thankfully, in truth, Janelle does have a small streak of cowardice that has also aided in keeping her in check, and not using her power.

Janelle had never even told her parents about her ability, although she doubted if they'd believe her. Still, despite the concealment of her power, she stood out as different. This had nothing to do with anything supernatural; she just had incredible talent, which made her easy to notice. Her sketches, her incredible prowess in gymnastics and fencing, and finally what others saw as a 'bizarre' belief regarding clocks also made her different.

Yet, perhaps even though she is different, this can still be normal. In the end, Janelle could easily say that she is content with how she is currently living.

Janelle, or Rosetta as she sometimes is known by, is a fairly slender, and slightly tall individual. Her long, black hair is often braided down her back, secured by an elastic that looks like a ring of roses that she almost always wears. She often wears slightly formal or dress clothes, even to team practises, and in truth often looks more formal than the actual team manager. In fencing tournaments especially, Rosetta also has a slight reputation for toying with her opponent before taking the victory for herself.

One of her most prized possessions is her own rapier, which was a very unique find. The hilt appears to be a weave of flower stems, and the pommel is a blossoming rose. The guard of the blade appears to be two leaves that extend from the stems, and the blade itself, while obviously steel, is engraved with the inscription of vines travelling down the blade. However, despite its ornate appearance, the blade is still sharp and quite usable.

If you remember, our characters actually would have more points than our villains right now; those bonus points that were given by Vesper in character creation.... which is kind of the opposite of how it's supposed to be, you know?

So, yep, I'd say that our villains should at least get the same number of bonus points (which was 15 if you don't quite remember), if not a little bit more just because they are villains... or at least antagonists anyway

As to sharing character sheets, I don't mind. Just let me know if that's what we're doing and I'll find Janelle's sheet... and perhaps even Alex's and Smoke's too, since you did run them by me

I'm totally for character development too; that's part of the reason why I play these games... I like to see how they make their own stories... ^^

And regarding Joe played by gboy... I'm kind of with you on that, in that it may be needed to post as the character soon, but it would be nice to wait for gboy... which doesn't help if something's come up on his end of the world...

I made Alice... she turned out quite different than I had expected.

However, before I put up the post I made for her, I'm probably going to have to warn you three right now that Alice is unnaturally... almost freaky in a sense. The reason for that is partially because she is Tainted, and thus mentally unstable, but also because she hasn't aged physically or mentally since she was pretty young (less than 12).

Although I'm kind of impressed at how I've made her, I really don't want to freak any of you out beyond your comfort zone. So, with that in mind, I'm not going to put up Alice's first post without consulting with you three first; it's up to you if you really want to see or not

So, I guess that's it for me tonight ^^

PS. If it's as my intuition seems to be telling me, I'll probably revise Alice if her current 'incarnation' is too much in the way of the off-centre horror genre, and try to make her more the way I first envisioned her.

Read it over, looks very intriguing

Maybe I should introduce the other character that came to my mind at some point... although I suppose I should write out a character sheet for her just so I have a visual of what she can do and such...

Janelle listened intently to the explanation that Alex gave her, and to her, it was sound... although she was a bit disappointed. She really thought that Alex was going to plan a performance at some point later on... oh well, enough of a dream, and back to the now.

"Oh, I get it..." Janelle replied, nodding, "In that case, would you like me to make some coffee or tea for you two?"

Seeing the nod, Janelle quickly went about putting a kettle of water on to boil. Nervously, she continued to eye her watch, watching as it ever so slowly approached 12:00 Noon.

As the group tentatively made their way from the station, a few things began to be clear. Despite the apparent abandonment of the station, it looked quite in order; there was no dust along any of the advertisement posters along the hall, and the posters themselves indicated human presence at least a couple weeks ago, if one looked at the dates associated with them. Even coming to the front doors, automated glass worked as they were programmed to, and opened without fault.

Outside, the first thing that could be felt as though there were a heavy weight in the air. There was a gentle wind, but the tension in the air was unmistakable. The whole town seemed to be still. Despite the town's modern appearance, even with electrical lighting along the sidewalks, it held a very archaic look because of how the buildings were.

All of the buildings were boarded up with plywood across their windows, and even covering what were probably glass doors. Yet, strangely, it isn't in the same manner as a typical 'ghost town'. Every plank of plywood across a window or door was placed specifically to ensure maximum coverage, so it's impossible to even see in, much less for anyone inside to see out. Also, despite the doors being boarded up if they're not already wooden, they aren't boarded up in a way that would obstruct entrance.

Apart from the strange buildings, there were other signs that the explosive train was not the only bizarre occurrence that had happened in this town. The occasional destroyed building, with only charred wall fragments remaining, the few collapsed or broken street lamps, each with an eerie dark patch underneath, and other things that are visibly destroyed for no apparent reason, such as a phone booth, or a newspaper stand.

In the near-distance, one undamaged building could be seen towering over the rest. Its shape was that of a tower, and one of its clock faces could be see glaring at the party. The time was now 11:00 PM, but the tower didn't toll.

Amidst the soundless town, seemingly frightened into silence, only the wind gently blew, almost trying to coerce the group back to the station...

A dangling sign easily catches the eyes of the group, being the only sign of movement there is. A bit further along the road, to the right side, a wooden sign tentatively hangs, crooked on its one chain, the other being broken. It reads The Blue House Inn, and although it is painted a deep blue shade, it looks far from welcoming or homey.

I'm sorry to interrupt the scene between Alex and Penelope, but although I was just going to have Janelle tape up her 'wards' around the house, the idea unfolded, and the post developed to what it is now

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if Alex is going to realize Janelle's talking about a STAGE magician

"Doin' okay in there, Rosie?" She had heard Alex call.

"Oh! Yes, I'm fine!" Janelle called back, "Just looking for some tape!"

And naturally, just as she said that, she opened the one drawer that had some. Janelle wiped a hand on her forehead, since in her haste she had broke into a slight sweat. Now then, the wards to separate the 'inside' from the 'outside'. Before she began, however, Janelle softly recited the other third of the poem.

"Use five or six wards to separate the place,
To take it away from reality's face.
One to each door, one or two,
One to each direction that is true.
But if none are set and ready,
Time will still persist, slow and steady.
There's only one way to hide from time,
Else, one can still hear the clock tower's chime."

Janelle nodded to herself, before sticking up one of her wards on the back door, using only a single piece of tape; it was only temporary, and she didn't want to make a mess of tape either in someone else's abode. Then she taped one on the outer walls she could reach from the kitchen, which just left one for the front door and one for the other side of the house.

She moved to head to the other side of the house, coming to what appeared to be a strange library. Janelle blinked. So... did that mean Alex liked these sorts of mysteries and stage magic? Maybe he was a magician as a hobby. Janelle giggled. It was an amusing thought, The Amazing Mr. Sharpe, making a willing audience member levitate or perhaps saw them in half. Then again... a top hat and tuxedo would look a bit peculiar on him if he didn't shave first.

As she glanced over what was there, however, she did have to notice that some certainly seemed real, but that was the purpose of stage magic, wasn't it?

Still giggling, Janelle walked over and taped up the fifth ward, before heading to the front door where Alex was intrigued by another visitor. Probably a client, was Janelle's first thought.

"Um, excuse me." Janelle said, gently moving close enough to the door to tape the ward on it, "There... Um, by the way... why didn't you tell me you were a magician as well as a PI?"

As her curiosity peaked, her Essence, unbidden, did as well, flickering once again. It seemed to show mainly with her curiosity, as likely with her anger and fear, perhaps a slight indicator of her emotions.

Since Janelle doesn't know how to dampen her signature, it will flare up at times, usually in response to heightened emotions. When it does, a person that can sense essence is pretty likely to be either shocked or overwhelmed by just how big it is, as Meri and Eol have been playing so far

In numeric terms, Janelle has a total of about 78 Essence points...

I was thinking that to describe it, perhaps one should consider that it is quite raw, and perhaps somewhat uncontrolled, yet powerful. Sort of like lightning; in storms, lightning is erratic and uncontrolled, but is very powerful, and when one controls it in the case of electricity, there is so much that is then possible.

"Not a problem." Janelle said warmly, taking and opening the can of salmon.

It gave her a bit of time to think about her first impressions of the place as well. It was a bit different than she had been expecting, although, admittedly, under the pretext that Alex was a PI, her mind definitely gave her the image of a more office-like abode. She wasn't expecting it to be so... homey? Janelle giggled. Some people would call it a bit messy, but to her, it seemed pretty common. It just meant that the space was lived in.

A nudge to her ankle snapped her out of her reverie, and she quickly obliged by placing the stirred salmon into Smoke's bowl, along with a fair amount of milk in the adjacent one.

Janelle smiled, "You like the salmon, don't you? Tabby always liked tuna more, but not Meow Mix... she never did agree with the solid food, now that I think about it... I guess it'd be like a person trying to eat dry cereal."

Janelle excused herself momentarily to open a can of tuna to put in the pie dishes. While she was doing that, her mind wandered for a second, until she spotted the time on her watch. It was getting closer to noon... a bit too close for her comfort. She quickly closed the back door behind her, and began rummaging through drawers in her search for some tape.

Re Loki: It's rather simple... it'd be under the pretext of prisoner transport. It's not the fact that we're going to get noticed that's a problem; it's a matter of when. Upon entering the hanger, the explosion will go off, at which point most eyes will be towards the explosion, rather than us. Investigation will ensue, under the assumption that the ST with the 'civilians and prisoner' will look after them. During this time, we can attempt to grab the frozen person and make for a ship. At this point we will likely be spotted, but also at this point, as most STs will be at the scene of the explosion, our way to a vessel is more clear than it would've been otherwise. Lastly... I am uncertain that locking the hanger door will be as simple as you think.

For Ayrn: I believe the plan can be updated as follows:

First, Ara will attempt to plant a remote bomb within one of the offices adjacent to the hanger.

Pending the success of that venture, Haiko'ib and Ithiria make their way down to the deck, followed (though not immediately) by Ara in the Storm Trooper Armour and Karra under the pretext of a prisoner.

Haiko'ib and Ithiria will head towards the hanger first, under the pretext of taking a 'joy ride'. They will, however, pause by the casino, debating slightly whether or not they wish to try their luck. During this time, Ara and Karra will catch up to them, and they'll make their way to the hanger as a group seemingly by coincidence.

Upon entrance to the hangar, Haiko'ib will detonate the bomb as a diversion. At this point, the pretexts are off, and there will be a scramble to get the 'cargo' and go.

If the diversion isn't possible, or fails for whatever reason, then the means and pretexts to get to the hanger remain the same, however, the actions that occur upon reaching the hanger will be very different. Upon reaching the hanger, the group will split up. Ithiria and Haiko'ib will initiate the firefight, while Karra will attempt to lock the hanger door. If this is as I predict, this means that Karra and Ara will have to strike at the Hangar Operations Room and lock the door from there.

No matter how that goes, it's once again a matter of getting the 'cargo' and running.

Oh, and Aryn, I think you might have missed it so I'll post this again:

with Ayrn's permission, I could swap Gather Information for Karra with Computer Use... she'd probably be adequate with it. I seem to fill in the Computer Tech role pretty often anyway.

Oh, on another note Ayrn, I just realized... her attack bonuses as listed with her claws and handgun should be +2 and +4 respectively because of the BAB increase from 1 to 2.

Subject: Regarding Deception

Don't add unnecessary complications; a lie or deception should be simple, to allow for as much flexibility as possible in the event that it needs to be elaborated on at a later time.

It is sound, but the add on that Hako'ib and Ithiria are servants/slaves isn't necessary; it could simply be that they are all working for the same person, and are co-workers instead. This is where improvisation comes into play. If no one asks, don't supply an answer to the question that isn't there.

There are other reasons why I bring this up as well. Cathar as a whole typically have never become involved with a slave trade, as far as I know. Thus, a Cathar with a 'slave' is uncommon, and more easily remembered as well as spotted. Furthermore, Karra wouldn't be able to take on that role; she is a medic, and has that professional air around her. Not to mention, this story doesn't provide a reason for Karra to be carrying her Medical or Surgery Kits. Together, they are the size of a backpack, and are heavy enough to be the reason why Karra is at medium encumbrance, and they are expensive; Karra does not currently have the means to replace them, so it would be best not to leave them behind. As a prisoner, it could easily be assumed to be a case of the convict attempting to smuggle something by disguising it as a Medical and Surgery Kit (which is being carried as evidence), but with the scenario you've outlined, she doesn't have a reason for it, which makes it suspicious.

Finally, if this is in conjunction with the explosive diversion, being merely an escort for civilians would not be enough reason for a commanding officer to not order Ara (in the ST uniform) to help assist them in dealing with the explosion. This would separate the party if she went, and would blow our cover if Ara refused. As an escort for a prisoner, the reason then for not getting involved is obvious; someone HAS to look after the prisoner. That's basic for all "police" organizations.

As a suggestion, instead of going to the BluRay, perhaps Haiko'ib could pretend to simply be on his way to take Ithiria out for a joy ride. Then, the reason for them being in the hanger at the time of the explosive diversion is obvious.

Perhaps a 'flashback' post (and/or series of PMs) is in order... so that you two can outline and decide exactly how it is Alex and Smoke are going about regarding the beacon of essence that is Janelle

I'd presume that Smoke's never spoken to Janelle... the girl is unaware of the Craft and such after all...

Although, naturally, the choice is actually yours, Meri... would Smoke just play Kitten with Janelle, or would she talk to her?

So, some dialogue... some with Alex and more with Smoke...

And Smoke gets to be pampered... ahh, the life of a cat

Also a slight bit of a revelation... Janelle had a cat at one point named Tabby... does this mean something, or does it not? Hmm...

Within a moment, Janelle had one of her "wards" sketched out. It was a square, with an irregular six-pointed star in it, with the two points on either side of the centre two stretching out to share the square's corners. Within this star was a circle, and within this circle were two pointed ovals, overlaying each other in an 'x'.

"Here you go, and thank you." Janelle said warmly, passing the page to Alex. "If you wrap it around your watch, that should be enough... I'll go say hi to Smoke."

~~

Walking out of the store, Janelle headed over to the Chevelle. Smoke probably saw Janelle coming first though, since her aura was unmistakable.

Sitting in the back seat, Janelle leaned up forward, and tilted her head to look at Smoke. She giggled, before scratching Smoke gently behind the ear.

"Hi Smoke." Janelle said, smiling, although her eyes were slightly distant, "How have you been?"

Janelle never expected any reply... but she asked anyway, for the sake of asking. She moved her hand up to pet between Smoke's ears, but she didn't seesaw the ears, rather, stroking back between them.

"Are you taking care of Alex?"

Inside, Janelle knew the answer. Yes... Smoke would be taking care of Alex, just like Tabby had looked after her when she was little.

"Your fur is so soft... it almost makes me envious... but if I had fur I probably would have to have a really good conditioner, wouldn't I?" Janelle giggled at the thought.

Janelle moved her hand again, now petting along Smoke's back...

Inwardly, Janelle sighed. She kind of missed Tabby.

~~~
Just a bit later, Alex came back.
"So, you are headed home, right, Rosie," he had asked, flicking a glance at her via the rearview mirror, "got any plans besides grocery shoppin' for the day?"
"Not really," Janelle replied honestly, "Although... you know, we always seem to come across each other like this or you visit me at my place... what's your place like?"
