Lawful Neutral Elf Rogue...

I think it must revert to rogue by default or something... and I'm pretty sure I'm true neutral...

Accursed blade Linnix thinks bitterly, feeling her arms go stiff as soon as she went to strike. With a clatter, the sword falls from her hands as she draws one of her daggers from its sheath at her belt. The blade's words still echo in Linnix's mind, boring straight through her emotions and instincts to combat with her anger. Shaking her head to clear her mind, she turns to the stranger.

"You know, anyone can tell a tale," Linnix says, her voice straining to remain steady as she grips the dagger, her knuckles turning white as she brings it in a position to strike, "and we've been deceived twice already."

(OOC: Linnix is basically preparing to do a coup de grace to the person; if he reacts by going for a weapon, she'll go ahead and attack anyway, if he doesn't, well... we'll have to see)

The woman turns, and regards the man carefully, her hand moving to her chin in thought as she takes in his appearance.

"I don't believe so; I'm sure I would remember." The woman says finally, the lie smoothly hidden in her steady, matter-of-factly voice.

In truth, it wasn't even that much of a lie; her form now is quite different from her real form, and so she was basically a whole other person, and they hadn't even met when she was in her natural form, separated by several metres as she flew above. As for the beginning question stopped so abruptly by the man, it was quite true he never saw her; at the time, she was invisible. With the half-truth, the lie becomes lost from sight.

Hidden in the form of an elven woman, the little sylph girl once again turns to leave.

Linnix glares at the rider rushing towards her. She had dared to hope such an imbecile would be as weak as the pathetic soul within. Well then, there was no choice. Dropping the crossbow to the ground, her hand grips the hilt of the unknown sword. Linnix draws the sword with a smooth motion, its slight blue aura flowing along behind it like a thin flame, a whisper of silent and unknown power.

Not even thinking about the repurcussions of wielding such a mystery untold, Linnix grips the sword's unfamiliar hilt in both hands and slashes down at her chosen foe. There was nothing else in the world at that time, only Linnix's foe, and the fury behind her attack. This nuisance was the reason she had been woken up, and the beginning of her dream was so promising, they had robbed her of that dream, and now they were going to pay with their life.

Subject: Hmm, regarding a large number of players

Now that I've thought it over, I'm afraid I might have to go ahead and start the game as it is with the five players (as soon as they get me their backgrounds)

There is also the very slim possibility I might end up cutting the player list, just to forewarn those who don't have their character sheet or paragraph.

I know there are extrenuating circumstances, especially at this time of the year (school year specifically), but it isn't really fair to keep the people who are ready waiting... So, I think I'll end up compromising, and start as soon as I have the five player's backgrounds, but have it so that the other four can enter when they're ready. For that reason, I've added the Backgrounds column to the player table list, just so it's easier to see.

If you're missing an item, please get that sent to me when you can, and for backgrounds, it's alright if some details are missing, as I know several people in particular will wish to have incredibly thorough backgrounds.

If you want to specify a specific area or locale, or reference any place in particular in your background history, then you can; otherwise I'll just think of a place for you to enter. Does that sound OK?

Subject: Well...

I think I can handle it ^_^

At any rate, you all expressed interest, so the least I can do is do my best to make sure that it's not a problem with the number of players or whether the party is unbalanced or anything like that. Don't worry about it.

It's my duty to make sure this is a fun game, even with a larger number of people, and I think I'm up for the challenge. If anything, a larger number of people gives me a lot more to write about! (I love creative writing... can you tell? )

On another note, I've nearly gotten the geography of Tiancann thought out, so if you want to specify a starting locale, this hopefully will help.

Tiancann is a continent that can be divided into five regions geographically. There is the western forest province that spans from the northern mountain range to the sandy shores of the south. In the center is a wide plain, with only a single city breaking its flat horizon. In the east there is an interlay of rivers from the northern mountain region and the eastern ocean, forming a lush environment. In the south, it is mostly desert-like, with soft, fine sand dunes forming a second ocean between the southern border of the plains and the southern ocean that is broken by a vast oasis of green. In the frozen north, on the other side of the mountain range, is a penninsula that reaches towards the northern pole of the planet. The northern mountain range reaches from the east to the west in a fairly straight line across the top of the continent. South from the center of the mountain range is the lonely mountain of Venerro, some few killometres from the nearest mountain. Its peak scratches the sky above, and easily dwarfs many of the other mountains. As such, it is easy to see against the horizon from all the corners of the continent.

Along with five regions are five main cities. The northern city of Girhn on the north penninsula specializes in the mining of the riches in the mountain range, with artisans forming weapons, armour, statues and treasure alike with the valuable ores and metals. The eastern capital of Aqinarr utilizes the best that the ocean can provide, with its navy of fishing boats as well as specialized diving legions to mine the pearls hidden along the eastern reefs. The desert city of Fonhinqann actually thrives in the otherwise hospitable environment, working with the oasis to cultivate the otherwise infertile land, and using the mighty winds of the desert to further their progress. The forest city of Hylon uses the riches that the western forest itself provides, creating beautiful worksmanship in their culture and wonderfully carved halls. The final city in the center of the continent is the meeting and trading captial of these four cities, and as such holds a majestic apparel that is impossible for either city to attain on its own, using the wooden carvings from the west, the metalwork of the north, the power of the wind from the south, and the beauty of the ocean from the east. This city is undoubtedly the capital of Tiancann, known as Wanqir. It is here where the delegates from the four other cities meet, to decide the course of the future for Tiancann based on what they need as a whole, recognizing individual needs but each elected to know when sacrifice is required to benefit the whole in the long run. Under such rule, the continent of Tiancann has thrived for a millenia, until now, when the disaster of the Linsemptus strikes...

Linnix awoke irritated. This is now the third time she has been awakened and her seething temper rose exponentially. She didn't know and likewise didn’t care who these people were or where they came from; all she knew was that they were not courteous, and they were the ones who woke her up. Getting up slowly, she slips out of sight, and draws the hand crossbow.

In Linnix’s hand, the feeling of the crossbow’s handle further awakens her, putting her anger into action. I’ll fix you. Linnix thinks bitterly, her uncharacteristic rage reaching the same zenith as in the cave. She looks out from beyond the cover of the tree, and levels the crossbow with the stranger’s head. Without a second thought, she fires, and then instinctively grabs one of her daggers in her other hand; if they survived, they would be sure to come and look. However, in reaching for the dagger, her hand passes by the handle of the short sword. Linnix pauses for just a second, but reasons that since the sword glows, it could give away her position, and if the person took it from her it would give them an advantage against the others. Well, if she had to, she would use definately it, although, she didn’t know what it did...

Riina sighs, Just as I thought she thinks as she raises her bow, which was already nocked with an arrow beforehand. In the end, even the crow is pounced by the wolf when it is still aware. Such is the way of the predator, seeing all others outside of their group as competition, and acting to remove that threat.

Riina draws the bow string, feeling it against the side of her nose, with her hand holding the string just below her right eye. The string lines up with her pupil, and so too with the first goblin that reacted. Adjusting her aim with the hopes of piercing the goblin's armour in a weak spot, which were generally at the neck, head, and both shoulder and leg joints.

Settling on aiming at the creature's neck, Riina releases the string, following through the motion by bringing her right hand back past her ear. Holding the bow completely still until the arrow sails past, she then immediately reaches over her shoulder for another arrow, either at the same target, or the next threat closest to the currently unarmed elf.

A dark idea blossoms in the depths of Riina's mind, and her eyes seem to fade into a pitch blackness for just a moment. Will it really come to that? she wonders.

The woman nearly stops in her tracks, seeing the stranger advance on her. *sigh* Well, how can I blame them? I'd probably advance too, seeing a stranger in an alley and I am in the dark here. the girl thinks to herself, continuing to walk into the light.

"There's no need for that." She says, her voice slightly surprising her, being gentle and calm but firm, and with a pitch and resonance different and seemingly older than her normal voice; she had forgotten this body's voice, since she had not used it for a while now.

Stepping into the light, the woman curtsies to the stranger, "I'm sorry if I startled you, but I wasn't expecting to come across anyone going this way."

She smiles warmly, "Well, I imagine you are busy as well, so I won't take any more of your time."

The woman steps forward, passing the stranger, "Take care." She says in farewell.

Riina bites her lip, "I don't like it."

She pauses for a moment, considering if there's any other ways she can think of offhand, and comes up blank.

"Very well then." Riina says cautiously, "We shall try this, but be wary; no predator accepts an offering without suspicion. The predator has the upper hand right now, in both numbers, and in that it holds captive what you're seeking the rescue of, as well as the destruction I at least have to try to avert. Be on your guard, and be ready to counterattack if they go straight into attacking you. I'll be ready."

"Do you know that scent?" Riina asks softly, "It is the scent of what is in those barrels, and I'm guessing in those sticks as well. It is a dry powder, not unlike the parched earth after a drought, but unlike mere soil and dirt, it holds within its form an intense flame. Ignited by fire, that powder amplifies it, so much so that it forms in an instant what appears to be a piece of the sun. If confined and lit, like it would be in those sticks I'm guessing, I can only imagine what destruction it could bring... Fire does not like to be confined, and if given the chance it will burst the container, with an even more disastrous result than were it merely spreading."

Riina goes silent, staring at the barrels while the other one elaborated on a potential plan. She sighs.

"When the tiger is presented a squirrel by an elk, it doesn't see the squirrel, and pounces the elk." Riina says simply, "If the squirrel is dead, so much the better, for the tiger will take both."

Riina shakes her head and gives another sigh, "That powder's purpose is only destruction; it cannot be used for any other thing. Its presence here can really only mean that those goblins are going to destroy something, and as we are close to the forest, I'd guess that that something is in the forest itself. We are running out of options, and time."

Riina tightens her grip on her bow, "I had hoped otherwise, but it appears that the least desireable action is among the only options we have. Regardless of what action we take, there is the potential for something to go wrong, but given the threat of that powder, I suppose we will have to deal with the immediate threat. When the lynx's home is threatened by a wolf, does the lynx run, or fight, even though the wolf has a pack it can call?"

Riina nearly hisses as the night breeze wafts the scent of gunpowder to her nostrils. It is a despicable scent, and one she had only smelt once before. It is dry, and raspy, not unlike the burnt ashes left behind by a fire. Oh yes, Riina would not forget that one day where she smelt both the powder and seen the destruction that had definitely followed.

It was a warm day, despite the clouds in the sky, as Riina carefully wandered through a plain, keeping below the height of the grass, staying hidden. There was a column of smoke in the sky that arose from a distant place, and Riina went to verify its cause. It was the burning remnants of an outpost, with only two walls still intact. Clearly, some sort of battle had taken place, and there were still bodies lying around, goblin and human mostly. The small fort was evidently being defended by the human forces, while the goblins attacked. A select few of the goblin bodies lying there were carrying tiny barrels of a black powder, some of which was spilt from most of the barrels. Its unmistakeable scent was engrained within Riina's mind since that day, but she was not sure that such an apparently simple thing could cause that much damage. She had taken a very small sample, and placed it nearby. With the flint and steel she had, she caused a spark, and the powder instantly reacted, swiftly burning in an instant with a notable 'pop' sound. Riina shook her head. A substance that can only bring about death and destruction has no place on this world. She thought solemnly.

Riina's eyes narrow. That powder could only bring about destruction and pain. Quickly, she looks around for the source of the smell, and finds it: one of the barrels propped beside one of the tents. Beside that barrel are a couple blood-red sticks, with a line of string coming out of it. Riina instinctively guesses that they too would hold the same properties as that black powder or maybe even that powder itself, with an added timer that would let it be lit for several moments before it exploded. They are weapons, dangerous ones, yet, Riina wondered, could they be used against the user? Riina shakes her head quickly; no, that would have to be a last minute resort, since she would not be able to estimate the amount of damage it would cause.

Linnix lets out a groan; apparently she did not go far enough away from the campsite. Sleepily she walks back up to the campsite, rubbing her eyes.

"You know, a couple of us are trying to get some sleep here!" Linnix half yells at Kas, her eyes still mostly closed.

Then the words sunk in, but Linnix was a bit beyond caring, "So, just because they couldn't be bothered to wait for the morrow..." Linnix says, slightly shaking.

"Besides, what do you expect me to do?" Linnix continues incredulously, glaring at Kas, "Suddenly grow wings so I can fly across that hole, be strong enough to carry Artanis' body, and fly all the way back here? I think not. I don't even want to see if I can get across that hole."

Linnix yawns, "If they got themselves into whatever it is they got themselves into, then they can probably get themselves out of it. In any case, I doubt I'd be of any help, why don't you go, Xaris?"

Linnix turns her back, and wanders off to find yet another different secluded place to sleep, "Have fun." she says in farewell, waving.

At the next place, which turns out to be just off to the side of the clearing Aelistae is sleeping in, Linnix just slumps to the ground, her back leaning against a tree, and she falls asleep.

Subject: Feeling

Riina felt the other one calm down, then disappear after a couple words. She felt his resolve, then his understanding, then his fear, but shared none of them. There were still a couple of things that had to be done at some point. Riina knew that she still had to try to determine the goblin group's intentions regarding the forest. So far, no sign had been shown, so either they were hiding it well, or they weren't interested in the forest itself. It was likely the latter, but Riina did not like to take chances.

Her adept eyes did another quick glance over the camp, seeing if there was any sort of hint that would show anything. They were trained to be good predators, but that didn't mean they didn't have other things to do as well. She specifically looks for things she's seen among woodcutters: those serrated saw blades, or keen logging axes.

She knew she couldn't afford staying in one spot for long; a predator that has caught the scent (or seen the torchlight in this case) of a different prey would be sure to be searching. Catiously, she moves around the camp, keeping a safe distance, and ensuring she wouldn't be seen or heard.

(OOC: Riina wouldn't know if the goblins had set up any traps or not, so she immediately would assume so, and so takes care in relocating)

Linnix nearly slams her head against the outside of the cave as she just about jumps up from her sitting position. Her eyes are wide as she looks around at the sky, searching for the thunderstorm. After a moment, seeing there are no real dark masses of clouds in the sky, it dawns on Linnix that the sound resonated from inside the cave.

Linnix was not amused. She wanted to rest, but that noise had jolted her body with adrenaline, and she was now wide awake.

"Ugh, what a bother." She murmurs angrily, standing up.

She was not in the mood to enter the cave, and she slowly assumed that it was because Loriel had set off a loud trap or something... It was like a clap of thunder though, and Linnix didn't know any sort of trap that used it - wait, what else was electrically that she had seen before? Linnix crosses her arms as she thinks about the humming crystals in that shield Artanis wielded. Well, that shield was almost fully charged, with seven of the eight gems lit on it, perhaps Artanis had Elesia identify her shield and she used it to unleash its power on some group of enemies they found. Linnix nodded to herself; that made sense.

Satisfied with her thought up explanation, Linnix wanders a bit further out, so she wasn't in range of that calamitous noise. She leans against a tree and slowly sets herself on the ground. After a moment, the adrenaline in her body fades, and she felt as relaxed as before. Bringing herself to a similar position as before, Linnix falls asleep.

Riina sniffs, and slowly, hesitantly, she replies in Sylvan, "Do you not know the anger of the hawk that has missed the agile rabbit? Do you not know the fury of the tiger that has been wounded by its would-be prey? Have you not felt your own irritation or anger when the perfect hunt fails? So are those goblins the predators, and those elves their caught prey. One does not take the meat from the lion's mouth lest they face the wrath of it, and their entire pride. Those goblins have felt victory and success, at what cost, we cannot know, and they will not suffer to let that be spoiled. They will pursue, like any predator would, and like the enraged bear, they will not care about bringing destruction in their wake."

Riina now stares at the goblin's bonfire, its flickering light reflecting in her eyes, "However, unlike the creatures of the wild, they can use fire. A torch dropped in haste or even by accident, or even one caught in the foliage; that is all it would take. Fire spreads on a whim, often aided by wind and dry earth. A fire so started easily grows beyond our control..." Riina's voice fades, as an afterthought, she adds, "I think you're overestimating your capabilities, and underestimating your opponents. They will not want to return to where they came from empty handed, and in the case you are successful, if they take considerable loss in numbers, enough to deem you a threat, and they return to inform the rest of them, they will want to take action to remove that threat."
