Topic: Despair Q&A
Subject: Backgrounds

Alright ladies and gents...
I've got all but one sheet and I've been assured it is coming soon. As soon as it appear in my box I'll get this game started.

In the meanwhile I've updated the roster on the first page, but there is real basic material there.

This group has been traveling together for about a month now. I'm leaving it up to you how much you wish to reveal to your companions about your history, motivations for going west etc...

So if you want to post up what your fellow travelers would know about your character as of now that would be good. And of course if you wish to add a good description of what they look like, what they are wearing etc that couldn't hurt either.

Well it looks like the roster is four:

I'll update the roster on the first page soon.

And as soon as I get those sheets and equipment lists from everyone (I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for that) I think we'll be ready to start.

bgoy has backed out due to rl commitments.

Yes as noted some of the weapons I listed before as being available don't really work. I stole that list from the 3.5 DnD Dungeon Master's guide... and since we are not using DnD anymore... well not quiet so useful.

But I think the doors are still wide open for you all the same.

Topic: Despair Q&A
Subject: Drum roll please...

Despair no longer, the answers have come¡K

Okay here are the adjustments I am making to Witchcraft for the purposes of this game:

1. Please buy all character stats according to what the book allows for the character type you have chosen with the following two exceptions:

I am allowing for players to select a race other than human if they desire.

For humans, you may add one point to any attribute you would like.
For elves, you may add one point to perception (elves can see and hear better than any other race).
For Halflings, you may add one point to dexterity (they are bouncy little creatures)
For dwarfs, you may add one point to strength (since they are like short squat little brick walls)
For Half-elves, you may add one point to knowledge (the dual heritage comes with a wealth of information)
If you want to play something not on that list please contact me.

Divine Powers
You may buy divine powers, but as noted previously the Gods are rather distant, especially in Despair (well there are some Gods that are reachable in Despair but somehow I doubt you will be calling on them), so getting them is going to take more work.

To adjust for this all divine powers will be double price, for character creation and for purchasing during game play as well.

2. Associations are not necessary. Only worry about them if you have found an association that really has called out to you, and make adjustments to fit your background as you feel fit. I¡¦m not currently that concerned with people being of a certain group, your ties would probably not be that strong with them at any rate as you¡¦ve gone on your own to Despair without any comrades from your group¡K

3. Equipment, this is where the fun comes in. I¡¦m not allowing for any increase in character points save for the race attribute adjustment mentioned above and the main reason for that is that I¡¦m going to be very liberal with equipment options for you.

The main rule I have is¡K anything pre Civil War is game. And that is world wide, and even dips into fantasy realms. If the technology was around prior to the American Civil War, it¡¦s available.

Witchcraft does not have price lists, and I¡¦m not going to create any, nor give you starting wealth, you can buy your economic status as one of the advantage/disadvantages as you wish.

That being said¡K have as much or as little as you wish, but keep reality in mind.

Anything you have at this point you have dragged across the mountains with you (and these are some treacherous mountains).

There is no paper money system in Despair (who would govern it?) so wealth is best transported in the shape of something shiny, but again you gotta lug the shinies around with you and robbery is a common thing out west.

You are going into a world of chaos, and you all knew that, I pray to the distant Gods that you have come prepared.

Also of note, Despair consists mainly of desert land, it¡¦s hot, it¡¦s dry, it¡¦s dusty. A suit of full plate metal might not be such a good idea.

Your enemies might not always be fleshy things either. Bullets work great on coyotes, but ghosts are another thing, and so is a dust storm. You¡¦ve been living in the wild up until this point, and might be in the future again (although currently you are in Cherish Valley and have the opportunity to acquire more supplies).

So there are¡K bring what you think will keep you alive. If there are any questions please feel free to ask. (so Loki¡K the answer is yes, strap the guns to your whole body and wear armor if you like )

*I know it will come up¡K so being proactive here. There was not any bullet proof armor pre Civil War that I know of. But yes I¡¦ll allow Mithreal (I probably murdered the spelling of that). Give it the same stats as the lowest level of bullet proof armor in the book (sorry don¡¦t have the book on me at the moment to see what that is). Of course your enemies may have it as well¡K ƒº

I think that covers most of it, when you figure out what I forgot let me know.

I¡¦ll be awaiting the final sheets, and so will the horrors of Despair!

Subject: Races

I am going to allow the basic fantasy races: Human, dwarf, elven, halfling, half-elf (and if you have another idea let me know).
I'm thinking of giving each race a bonus to an attribute that makes sense for the race but haven't worked out which ones get what, but probably just one point to add to the attribute beyond what you put in.
So at this point just note what race they are and then we can adjust some stats later this week.

Glad to hear you are still interested, that's three.

I'm working up some fun things for you guys to kill too

Subject: Mundane?

Huh... thought you would have wanted to go with someone with Sight abilities... but mundane would give you more points to go into her arts...

Well so far it sounds like it is okay to change the format here.

If you want to start building characters that is fine, I might come up with a few point adjustments from what is in the book, but nothing huge I don't think, as I look into a little deeper just as forewarning...

Subject: Sincerest Appologies

I'm dreadfully sorry, Christmas ended up taking up way more of my time than I had expected and so has the beginning of the year. Things are slowly calming down around here.

I have not had much of a chance to take a good look at any of the sheets I have gotten from you, nor a chance to work up those first encounters for this game.

However... I wanted to ask a question and see what people thought of it. I have been thinking of working this up as a tabletop as well for some of my friends, and while doing that I have come to the conclusion that it would be easier to run this world in a slightly adjusted version of Witchcraft instead of 4e... the biggest adjustments I've thought up thus far (and the idea only struck me two days ago so I'll still hashing some details out) would be eliminating the more modern equipment/skills (computers, cars, machine guns etc), get rid of the bast, allow people to choose races other than human, and have some kind of adjustment to how many points could go into divine inspiration spells since the Gods are so far removed from Despair...

I just really have come to like the Witchcraft system, know it better than 4e to run a game in, and think that it might work better.

Let me know what you guys think... I can still make either work... and again sorry for dissapearing!

Sib was going to join us and then realized she is very busy right now and is backing out. It looks tenativly like Loki might fill up the fourth slot, and if Sib is freed up later can certainly join in at that time.

Once the train pulled to a stop Julianne pulled herself off the seat and out of the car. She pulled her PAD back out as if to use it and waited for the others to get out. Hearing the suggestion that they split up and search with more efficiency she nodded in agreement.

"Yes, that sounds like a good idea. We should all meet up again in four hours, here good for everyone? Oh... and please stop yelling, I'm standing right here..."

She threw a beaming smile at the group.

Alright I am working on a post for this, I promise.

But on a side note. My tabletop group has gotten a copy of the book for this (note: I have not read it so I am not being treasonous, please don't shoot me!) and are thinking of starting a game up. The only real concern is that they have heard that it's actually best for the GM and that the players just kind of play along with all of his inside jokes. And from Addy's last euber exuberant post I am tempted to go along with that analysis...

Not that I'm not having fun, and I know Olan got a kick out of shooting Grugg in the face, and that Grugg is cooking up some terrible form of revenge for when he can pick this up again... lol.

Is there a reason the fun little lines of goofy smilies at the bottom of the page when you are writing a post or PM do not show up when editing a post?
I've run into the situation where I've wanted to add a crazy smilie or need one to go with an edit and end up having to open another window to figure out what the html is for it to type it onto the post...

Nothing too important, just curious...

P.S. While I'm on the issue of smilies, why isn't there one making a kissie face?

I keep staring at the holiday greeting on the main page... the blonde elf on the bottom right corner, what is that under his/her chin? I can't figure it out!

Topic: Some Secrets are Best Left Buried...
Subject: No Cure

At the first off key note Syana had leapt to her feet and started to pull out her sword. On the second note she paused and listened again as Isaac’s strange song moved through the mist back toward them. Shoving the sword back into its sheath she couldn’t help but let a little smile play with the corner of her lips. It actually stayed on her face while she watched Shianna circle around Isaac with her concerns about his ‘signing sickness.’ Syana on the other hand was rather certain that it was not an illness but a disorder and that there likely was not a cure.

Once Shianna and Isaac were done discussing his ‘sickness’ she listened as Isaac told them of what he had found in the village. Nodding to herself she adjusted the bags hanging off her shoulders and prepared to head to village when the rest of the group left.

She had to admit to herself that she was very pleased that the village did not appear to be over run with carrion. The thought of fresh water and shelter had certainly piqued her interest and if they had decided to stay out for the night she would have been disgruntled. Not that anyone would have known it, just as none would know just how pleased she was at this turn of events. There had only been one who had ever fully understood how she was feeling, only the one, and those days were long gone. Taking a look around her surroundings, peering into the mist, glancing at the lights ahead and finally searching the sky for any stars that might be seen between the clouds she knew that those days were long over.

((Note: She will follow the group to the town, and obviously will let the others approach any villagers and speak to them about making arrangements for the night.))
