Is it standard policy here to just keep using someone's character after they specifically ask you not to?

The character is dead. Her player does not want to continue in this game. Leave her dead. She is my creation. She's dead. End of story.

How long do we have to wait until we find out whether or not we're all dead?

I sure hope I didn't get everyone (or anyone, for that matter) killed.

Evie will take whatever cover she can behind the nearest heavily armored person, and continue her singing and playing. Hearkening back to the years of training at the feet of the Masters, she tried to remain relaxed and let the air flow her. Tilting her head back a bit to open up her throat and keeping her diaghram firm but flexible, her voice rose high and pure above the constant noise of the crystal shards clattering all around, and sometimes, into them.

Not knowing what effect all these amateur voices will have on her attempts to maintain a resonant frequency, Evie shrugs and hopes for the best.

Slinging her bow, she pulls her lute and starts hitting the note that the crystal shard shattered at over and over, then draws a deep breath and starts to sing, her voice rising in volume and power. She holds the note as long and loudly as she can.

Evie as was her nature moved into the room fast and low using what little protection afforded her by the paladin’s shield to her advantage, only find said protection gone a moment later. As low as she was and even as quick as she was, was not enough to save her from being hit by a spike straight on into her chest, the spike embedding itself there as if it belonged. The spray of blood from her chest just proceeding her crash to the ground she slid to just below Conall’s feet. The big Paladin seeming as if a giant standing above her....

Ten breath’s held, Ten hearts stopped, twenty eyes watching in hope, only to see that hope die as the ruby entered the hole to cause....nothing........

The crystal walls continued to spin, the spikes continued to fly and the party would slowly it seemed continue to bleed and then perhaps die............

Evie scrambles back to her feet, uttering a long and surprisingly creative string of expletives, none of which are in the least bit lady-like.

"Give me a bloody enemy I can fight!" she bellows at no one in particular. With that she takes bow in hand, nocks an arrow and fires it straight at the crystal wall, hoping the fragile crystal might chip or shatter, and give the group at least a clue as to how to defeat this test.

Subject: Is it live...?

Evie arrives safely beyond the entrance door and, gritting her teeth to fight back the pain, plucks another of the crystal slivers from her side. She holds the bit of crystal up before her eyes and examines it.

"Crystal resonates", she says to no one in particular. Holding the sliver by one end between two fingers, barely tight enough to retain her hold on it, she taps it against the stone wall and listens carefully as it rings.

"And if it resonates, it can be shattered by sound alone." She shrugs, "I've seen it done, but never tried myself."

As the tone slowly dies down, she strikes it again against the wall, and after taking a deep breath begins to sing. Very carefully pitching her voice, she attempts to match the frequency at which the crystal vibrates.

Hoping that she is right, if she can match the frequency, and slowly increase her volume until the vibrations from her voice match those of the crystal, she may induce a resonant frequency vibration in the crystal and cause it to shatter.

I'd be happy to mail you all I have, but most email systems have a file size limit well below some of the .pdf files for the books I have.

PM me and we should be able to arrange an FTP file download, if I can remember how to set up my end as a server.

Even as she begins to head back towards the entrance, an idea strikes Evie regarding the nature of crystal. In addition to her previous actions she will also attempt to get hold of one of the crystal shards, whether off the floor, or one stuck in her body or equipment, just as long as she can get hold of one by the time she reaches the entrance.

Having gotten nowhere with finding any sort of secret door, and seeing everyone around her being sliced to ribbons by the endless stream of crystal shards, Evie cries out, her voice surprisingly loud and clear, "Get out, get out, there's no door here!"

She'll turn and dodging as best she can, head for the entrance door. She'll stop and assist Ulthok and Divot if they still need help by the time she reaches them, and anyone else that may need assistance between herself and the door.

I'm confused.

Where did Haila come from? Is there another door that she came through?

Still cursing herself for her own clumsiness, even while grimacing through clenched teeth at the pain of her wounds, Evie checks the wall behind the door as thoroughly as the situation permits hoping to find a secret door. Should that fail she prepares to cast Dispel Magic, hoping that the wall is merely an illusion.

"Are you good at trap finding?” Rayne had asked as Evie headed down the walkway. Evie had been about to say “Good enough to have survived them all so far”, but as she was about to speak, she felt a distinct click beneath her foot as her weight activated a trap. Not quite as certain about her survival skills any longer she replied through gritted teath,“Not bloody good enough” as a hail of spikes flashed all around her, miraculously not a single one of them struck her.

It was just as far to the exit door as to the entance and there was no cover anywhere, so Evie sprinted for the exit. (OOC if the rope hinders her at all, she'll slip it off or slash it, whichever is faster. If she makes it to the exit door, she'll pray for the best, and try to open the door.)

OOC questions about current situation in game:

It says Evie is 10 steps into the tube, is she closer to the entrance than the exit?

And, is there an area at the exit side, where she will be clear of the flying spikes?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Welcome Fletch!

As a recently arrived member of this group let me be the first to grant you the title of New Guy.

Divot seems to be cursed. Not so much the character, but Divot's player. Or Players, as the case may be. Let's hope you last longer than some previous Divots. We'll be rooting for you.

Subject: The door

Evie eyes the door at the far end of the walkway, "That appears to be the only way out, so that is the way your companion must have gone. She surprised me while I was still considering this crystal tube."

The half-elf lass then examines the entrance to the crystal tube very closely, checking for traps or other surprises. If she finds any, she'll attempt to remove them. If she finds any, or not, she'll still step back and cast Detect Magic on the tube.

(DM Correction: OK Deathwysh you were Webbed on the crystal wall near the entrance door. The exit door is still to the north across the narrow stone bridge so to check it you have to cross the walkway. Are you doing so??)

((OOC: NO! I've edited the above message to reflect that new information))

"i am Rayne Fireheart. Glad we were able to get you out of you predicament," Rayne offers the young half-elf woman once she had finished speaking.

“As am I” Evie replies, smiling, “Please, call me Evie”.

She then turns as others approach to make their introductions.

"Welcome, I a Cynil, a Druidess, This is Conall, A paladin to Odin," she puts a gentle hand on his arm. "The Lady Althea, she point to Althea, "is the one who is the basis of our quest. I am glad we meet you and were able to rescue you, but you found your way into a great deal of trouble. I am sorry to say. You may wish a tale to tell, but we have to survive the rest of the test rooms, before such a thing can be written."

Evie smiles, “ A pleasure. Charmed. Delighted.” she replies to each in turn, not failing to note the placement of Cynil's hand. “I'm very thankful that you happened along as well. The prospect of spending eternity as a fly in a web was more than a bit gloomy. And though I may have landed myself in a difficult situation, I'm no stranger to such things, and by the looks of this group, neither are you.

(Cynil)... turns back to the Bard. "Did you observe what Haila, the Magess that webbed you, did to get out of the room? Maybe we can do the same thing to finish off the room."

Evie shakes her head in reply, “Sadly, all I saw was a brief glimpse of her before her my head slammed into the wall. I'm afraid I saw and heard nothing else until your arrival.” She turns in place, getting a good look at the room. “If she alone was able to find a way, surely all of us together can do so as well.”

((OOC: Can we get a thorough description of this room? I'm not certain just how it looks. In my mind's eye I'm seeing a crystal tube with a walkway down the center of it with a door at the far end, and got the impression that Evie was webbed to the wall near the door (or was it on the inner surface of the crystal tube?))

(DM OOC: Thats just how it looks and you were Webbed to the Crystal walls inner surface. There are no other outstanding features that you can see)

Ya know, I figured RPJ was toast as soon as he took on the role of Divot. Had I taken the role, I'm sure it would have been me.

Perhaps there's some way to remove this curse that goes along with playing Divot.
