Topic: Realms of Twilight - A Journey Begins Subject: Game Update
The lead wyvern turns a quick circle and comes diving back towards the precipice. It shrieks deafeningly as it soars down, like a lightning strike from above.
Raina readies herself as best she can on the narrow ledge.
Come dance with me...
The creatures jaws lash out at the woman. Despite her reflexes the wyvern's teeth find their mark. The creature clamps its jaws down firmly on her arm, and begin to lift her away from the ledge. (bitten and grabbed for 8 damage) Gritting her teeth against the pain, the rogue is not about to lose an arm or this battle against a flying lizard. She swings up, singing the point of her rapier into the creatures chest to the hilt (critical hit for 12 damage). Immediately the wyvern releases its hold on her. Her sword slips free of the thing's chest and Raina begins to fall. In the timeless moment when the sensation of falling hits her she looks down and realizes that she is no longer above the ledge. To fall would send her tumbling down the long distance to the ground. The moment passes and gravity takes its hold. Reflexively she lashes out with her free hand and grabs a firm hold of the creatures leg. Its flight faulters a bit before it regains control, then it arcs its head down to gaze darkly at its new passenger.
The second wyvern dives once again at the armored cleric. Hieronymus presses himself to the wall, seeking as much shelter from the rocks as possible. Seeing its approach Quarlin loses a crossbow bolt, hoping to distract it from its current course. The bolt hits solidly in the thing's arm (or what passes for an arm, and for 4 damage). With a screech of pain the wound forces it to veer off, its talons missing Hieronymus by only inches.
Seeing his chance the cleric climbs as fast as he is able. Gronz hold firmly, his muscles strained. He holds strong to the rope when no one else could as the fully armored human climbs over the edge of the small plateau.
(OOC: Alright, both wyvern's are now wounded. Raina is dangling from the talon of one with a firm grip on its ankle. The other bears a wound to its wing and is noticably more hesitant to make another pass.)

Generally you have about 3 days in between jobs. That can be extended if part of the team is seriously injured or if there is another abnormal concern.

Topic: The Trilogy War Subject: Alasdair
As the hammer returns his thoughts send it careening towards the foe nearest him, a distraction of sorts to mask his own attacks as he raced in behind it.
He dodges through the maze of tentacles, attempting to strike at the core of the beast before him. These creatures, whatever they were, had caused his friends harm. Anger and frustration began to build within him as he lashed out with his trusted sword Purifier.
A prayer comes to his lips as he weaves towards his target. "Odin give me strength. Guide my blade and aid us all in destroying thse unrighteous abominations."
He brings his sword down with all of his might on the brain of the creature before him.

For some reason I feel like I already know you. Here they call me a muse (and sometimes amusing) and a sage.
I would like to take this moment to welcome you to our Inn in my own elitist way.
Welcome.
I hope that was as fulfilling for you as it was for me. I look forward to gaming with you.

Topic: The Search for Tomorrow Subject: Koriss
While the rest of the party was busy looking to those they had defeated, the sharp-eyed Raslan had his senses turned outward.
This was too easy. There have got to be more out there.
"I suggest we slay the man, for they would have done the same or worse to us. Even if he could, he likely won't tell us anything anyway."
All of his senses were on high alert. There was something not quite right... something in the back ofhis mind told him to tace great care.
"Whatever we do, I suggest we do it quickly and quietly. The battle could be heard for at least a mile, and there will be more coming... soon."
He glances over the dead bodies and moves to where the trap door once was, peering cautiously into the darkness below.

Topic: Lycan's Bane Published!! Subject: Lycan's Bane Published!!
As of tonight I have released the PDF version of Lycan's Bane, and adventure written for 4-6 characters of 5th-7th level. It is set in my world (Realms of Twilight).
The general description is as follows:
The tensions on the border of the Illurian Empire and the nature worshipping nation of Valin are high, and growing with every cycle of the moon. The lycanthropes of Valin grow stronger as the red moon Alhara begins to rise. An attack is eminent, Illurian commanders are certain of it. Now, the mages of the Empire have created a weapon to rob the Valinites of their strength. This weapon, the Lycan's Bane must be couriered to the border, yet Valinite spies are everywhere. Its power prevents it from being transported by the arts of magic, and all military action is being watched. This responsibility then falls on the Player Characters, to do with it as they will.
This adventure is currently available at drivethrurpg.com and will soon be available at paizo.com (depending on when they approve and post it.) The sale price is $9.99 USD.
Thanks for all of your support and interest! The print version of this adventure will be available on my own website as soon as I get the hardcopies from the printer (likely 3-4 weeks).

Topic: Realms of Twilight - A Journey Begins Subject: Game Update
The two creatures spiral towards the group hungrily. As the get closer, their stinger-tipped tails come into view dripping some sort of liquid.
The first of the pair swoops straight at Raina as she stands tall, attempting to hold the creature at bay until her companions have reached the ledge. She readied her rapier at its approach. It swoops down slashing with its claws and whipping its tail at the rogue. The claw of its wing her firmly as it flys by, spinning her full circle and disorienting her a bit. (Struck for 4 hp damage.) The tail scatches harmlessly across her armor, leaving a slight scratch and traces of the strange liquid behind. Despite her diziness he lashed out with her sword, grazing the creature, but leaving a mark of her own on its reptilian body.
Meanwhile, Gronz sets himself as firmly as he can and tosses the rope over the edge of the cliff to Heironymus and Quarlin. Immediately the wizard begins to climb. Light as he is, the half-orc has no trouble supporting his weight as he climbs. Just has he reaches the precipice of the plateau the other creature of the pair swoops in, but not at Quarlin... at the cleric that is holding on for dear life belof the ledge.
Its tail strikes him hard, penetrating his armor on his left side, just below his ribs, and pumping the liquid into his veins. The momentum of the blow knocks him loose from his handholds. Dsperately he shot his hand out to grab the still dangling rope. By sheer luck he managed to grab hold, just as his entire body seemed to burst, burning with liquid fire from within. (6 hp damage)
Atop the ledge the half-orc saw the diving wyvern, and held his breath and the rope tightly. The sudden weight on the rope pulled him to the ground, dragging him right to the edge of the cliff, but he held on. The muscles in his arms bulged as he channeled all of his thought, and all of his strength into them.
Slowly, painfully, Heironymus began to climb.
(OOC: As referenced in the post, these creatures are wyverns, but they are only medium-sized creatures. The one that attacked Raina flew by and soared back to the sky, preparing for another pass. The other flew out and is hovering about 60 feet to Heironymus' right, also seeming to prepare for another pass, yet it seems to be... smiling.. and waiting...)

Topic: The Trilogy War Subject: Surprise...
His shout of alarm went out loudly echoing Kenji's call, but it was too late to save his friends from harm.
He knew Kenji was right, that the red beaks were the key to this attack, but there was some doubt as to whether the rest would just leave them alone when the red beaks fell. But the two black beaked creatures before him made his thoughts moot. He was standing between them and the rest of the party, each involved in their own battles. He had to take them down as quickly as possible, and hope he could help keep Kenji clear to fight the red beaked brain creatures.
As his sword almost appeared in his hand he spoke a prayer to Odin. "Father of All, send your almighty hammer to rain destruction upon these creatures of evil." (he casts spiritual hammer to send it over to aid Kenji)
His spell complete he raises his sword and rushes the first of the creatures before him, dodging the powerful tentacles as he rushes for its main body (he will attack tentacles as necessary to keep them away from him).

Topic: Realms of Twilight - A Journey Begins / Q&A Subject: Description
The plateau you are on is approximately 15' square. There are small rocks, even some slightly bigger ones about the size of the hald-orc's head or torso, but nothing that seems it would be suitable to tie the rope off to safely.

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A Subject: Watch Rotation
4 hour watches
12 hour rest period (to allow all casters to fully rest)
1st Watch:
Ulthok, Conall and Maggot
If Ulthok has any trap-type abilities that he can use during his watch to make the camp a bit safer, or make it easier to detect intrusion, by all means use them.
2nd Watch:
Althena, Alasdair and Kenji (I want a chance to talk with the samurai.. you know... build relations... build trust, that sort of thing)
3rd Watch:
Haila, Sirene and Cor
Rayne is lucky enough to get the "night" off of watch (unles she chooses to stand watch with one of the other groups).
I think these groups balance fighting capability with observational and magical abilities. I expect we will be ambushed at some point. Loud noise is always a good way to wake comrades.
By the way, what are the 2nd edition rules regarding sleeping in your armor?

Topic: Realms of Twilight -Winds and Sand Subject: Update
"Uthgar!" A voice calls from the other room. "Where is the half-orc named Uthgar?" A large man comes in, recognized by the rest of the party as one of the guild trainers, Betherin by name. The large man glances around the room, his eyes finally setting on the only orc-kin.
"Ah, you must be him. Rumor has it you're an escaped slave eh?" He comes to stand next to the half-orc, standing an inch or so taller, and twice as broad. He eyes Uthgar judgingly, watching his reaction, the way he moves, and his frame entirely.
(Meanwhile....)
Gorn takes a deep drink of his ale and truns to the Argent. "Honor or not, it is a legal business here." He hesitates for a long moment. "But just like any other legal business, there are ways to get around the rules, and even break them without any consequences if you know the right people. The man you recovered the slaves from was one such person. You know the way slaves are normally treated in these parts. He kills them for fun. Hunts them like animals. Believe me, as twisted as it may seem, you lot did those slaves a favor by returning them to their proper owner."
The room is beginning to fill up a bit as time passes. More of your guild mates are coming in from the field, as well as their more mundane tasks for the day.

Topic: Tales of City Fantastico Subject: Danyael
"Well, two periods down and we're all still in one piece. That's got to count for something." He looks each of his teammates int he eyes as he speaks. "When the Canadian sent us out on the ice, he likely expected us to end up much like those thugs we saw when we came in. You guys have eliminated two of his players, and quite spectacularly at that. Now let's finish this. They can't score if they can't stand right?"
Danyael offers Downhouser and Virago a sly grin.
"I'm sure the two of you can see to that, right?"
"Katie, it would be my pleasure to run interference for you. You're our best shot at a few more points, just to make sure we win."
After his inspiring speech he looks up to the stands, where the Captain's wife sits watching him intently. He offers he a knowing grin and a promising look before shifting his gaze to the rest of the crows, specifically the Canadian himself.
(I'm looking to see what his general reaction is to how we are playing, and the loss of two of his players.)
"I don't know how things will turn out when this is over. I can't thin the Canadian will be happy with us trouncing his team, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. Right now, let's make sure that these Wildfires can't see straight enough to remember what hit them. Sound like a plan?"

Topic: The Trilogy War Subject: Alasdair
The elder paladin looks sternly at the chasm before them, as if by will alone he could transport them to the other side. Alas, those were powers he did not possess.
"I am hesitant to rely solely on magic to get us across, but at the moment I see no other option. Before we tackle this new obstacle however, I suggest we all get some much needed and well deserved rest. We stand watch in shifts as always. Sleep well, eat well. For tomorrow is likely to be as long and rough as today."
"Tomorrow, here is my strategy for the chasm. Those of you who can transform to carry our fellows, you will need do so. Some of us should stay in our natural form. Transforming into something unfamiliar may be a great hinderance if something asails us during our crossing. Those that are to be carried, we will likely want to fasten you to those who bear your weight, to ensure you do not fall and discover the true depth of this chasm the hard way."
Wearily he begins to unshoulder his backpack and lay down his equipment.
"My friends, I recommend spells of flying for all those who are comfortable with them. Those that are not, I believe we have magics and Cynil's uncanny ability to transform that can help you across. Please my casting friends, you are better than I at determining the best use of your spells. I will leave it to you all to determine who prepares the necessary spells for our flight."
That being said he staps over to Althena and takes her aside.
"How are you holding up?" He says, genuinely concerned. "I must admit, I'm rather tired myself. I hope Odin sees fit for our plan to succeed, though I have to say that I am curious about one thing. With everything in this cavern seeming to want to destroy us, all the way down to the very vegitation, why weren't we attacked when we were likely at our physical and magical weakest. I have to believe that Odin is watching over us, and that does give me strength."
He speaks to her about small, relatively insignificant things for a while before voicing his final concern. "Love, what will you do if we get the sword we seek? What then?"

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A Subject: Magic
I am hesitant to rely ENTIRELY on magic. It's only a gut feeling, but I can completely see someone getting half way across the chasm and then hitting an anti-magic area and plummeting to their death.
I don't believe Wild Shape is considered a spell-like ability so would work in an area of anti-magic. And if the end vote is that we should try some combination of the spells Ody brought up, then we'll try it. I would suggest we have some sort of safeguard though just in case (like the large eagle idea).

Topic: The Search for Tomorrow Subject: The Raslan
Up top, the halfling kept his eyes open and his body under cover. He was confident that when these guys were in the open, they were vulnerable enough the his companions could deal with them. He would help them if he was needed. But the one that they had lost sight of... he was a different story.
"Time for a game of hide and seek." he whispered.
He searched the shadows for the disappered enemy, his daggers at the ready.
(If he spots the guy, he intends to drop from the roof and attemptto sneak up on his, unless he is needed in the main melee before that. If he enters the main fray he will attempt to flank their enemeies, doing as much damage as possible with sneak attacks, while still keeping an eye out for the disappeared foe.)

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A Subject: Possibilities
Could enough castings of Warp Wood create any sort of stable bridge using the trees themselves?
How many targets can Air Walk affect?
Plant Door?
Could Major Creation help us with multiple castings?
I know we have several that can change shape, potentially available Polymorph Self and Wraithform spells, but I don't think we have enough to account for the whole group. So I'm trying to think of a magical way to create some sort of mundane crossing. If someone had a Stoneshape spell it would likely be pretty easy, but I didn't see that in any of the spellbooks (unless I overlooked it).
Any other suggestions?
We could also try making some sort of glider and hopng that updrafts from the chasm would keep them aloft, but I don't know that any of us have the skill set to do that.

Topic: Realms of Twilight - A Journey Begins Subject: Game Update
The group's collective gaze settles on the shadows in the sky as the soar, blocking out stars with the beat of their wings.
,"Climbing like this is suicide, folks, but I do have an Idea. If one of you would climb up next to me we could each use a free hand to help each other tie my rope onto a crossbow bolt which I could fire at and over the nearest out cropping or maybe into the stone as a make shift piton. It'll be risky, cause we could lose the rope all together, but its all over anyway if those flying whatsits above us decide to have lunch while we are here. what say you?"
Quarlin's suggestion seems to fall on deaf ears as first Gronz, then Raina and Heironymus accelerate their climb. Shrugging, Quarlin continues up the cliff behnd them.
Hand above hand they climb, constantly aware of the sharp talons bearing down on them, but fearing to look, in case that simple movement should slow them down or worse, cause them to slip. The shrieks grow ever closer at their backs.
Raina is the first to reach the small plateau, Quarlin's rope in hand. Quickly she ties the rope around her waist and looks out over the edge, getting the first good look at the creatures bearing down on them. Their lizard-like scales glint int he moonlight as the glide on bat wings. The spikes on their tales seem to have some manner of liquid streaming from them. One of them cries out once more and like a sudden blast it hits her... wyverns. She didn't know much about them, but she had heard stories and that was enough.
Gronz was next over the precipice, slipping only slightly as he brought his lead foot onto flat land. Heironymus and Quarlin were still having a bit of trouble. The cleric was weighed down a bit more from his equipment, and the wizard was not nearly as adept at finding the hand and footholds necessary to traverse such a treacherous place.
The wyverns circle once more and then dive towards the party, anxious for their next meal.
(OOC: So, I will be rolling initiative for this next round. Raina is on the plateau (a rough 25' semi-circle of flat ground before the cliff climbs once again) with the rope tied seemingly securely around her. Gronz has also reached the plateau and has just gained his feet. Heironymus and Quarlin ar both still about 20' shy of the plateau slowling moving up the cliff face. The Wyverns will be able to attack this round. Now, it is your move.)
