Topic: Star Trek: the Edge of Duty Q&A
It's not much but I really wanted to get something in before the game was all over.
Thanks for letting me play.
For those that didn't get my character backgrounds.
John is decended from the men known as the Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet.
Julie Kato is decended from the Crimson Wasp. (Her family and the Reid family, the Green Hornet line, linked through marrage. In the story Green Hornet: Dark Tomorrow, it is indicated that Paul Reid and Mishi Kato had married and were the parents of Gordon Reid, who was the father of the story's Green Hornet, Clayton Reid.).
In the 1930's and '40s, industrialist Britt Reid fought crime and the mob as the Green Hornet, with his partner and friend Ikano Kato at his side. Eventually both of them retired, but in the 1960's their nephew and son, Britt Reid II and Hayashi Kato, became the new Green Hornet and Kato. Keeping up the family tradition, two and a half decades later Britt Jr.'s nephew, Paul, and Hayashi's younger sister (he was the eldest of four children, she the youngest) Mishi became the third Green Hornet and Kato.
Mishi later assumed a new code-name: the Crimson Wasp, a title given centuries past to Yukari Oshira, the fabled swordswoman and only female samurai of the Muromachi period of feudal Japan.
(Comic book buffs can look up the Crimson Wasp.)
Donny (Don Diego Vega) is desended from Zorro.
Jay Silverheels was desended from Tonto.
Agian, thanks for letting me play.
These folks were giving me side play possibilities but work, health and other issues just flatlined my creative writing. Maybe I'll get inspired again and bring them back. My odd idea was sort of a Justice League inside Star Fleet. Ok it's was far fetched, but could have its moments.

USS Peregrine, Captain's Ready Room - 10:55
John sat at his com console, “Julie I need you to be sure all of security transmission from the Peregrine get into the right hands, they need to be the full video and audio. If the brass only sees the shortened text revision they won’t be able to measure the full impact of what transpired.”
The young Asian women smiled back, “We’ve done our best. There seemed to have been technical issue that was affecting the text only versions. We were able to verify that they all opened and viewed every last minute before the text version was available. I have to say you do get yourself into some interest situations.”
John let out low sigh, ”Thanks cuz.. They really needed to see and hear Jacobs to feel the truth in the situation. Captain Drake is likely the best officer I have ever served under. He’s Old School; serves Right and Justice. If I didn’t know better I’d say he was related to one of us. Hell with a name like Drake he just may be a hidden hero. “
“Now now Johnny Boy…there are no hidden heroes…just folks that serve Justice and Right.” Petty Officer Kato smile at the ornate oriental wall hanging of the ancient female samurai, the Crimsoned Warp, on her wall. “By the way Jay was by and said there just may be something odd about that Captain of the Coronado . Jay said Donny found it interesting that each time Jacob’s headed a diplomatic mission he seemed to come away a bit more well heeled but nothing that could be proven illegal..just fishy.”
“Did he say if there were any hints dropped that could make it to the brass?”
“Well I don’t know how far it has spread but there is very interesting scuttlebutt rolling here at 118.”
John let out laugh, “I owe you all no matter how it plays out..we can only hope Justice is served…I’ll make good on our dinner when reach 118. Should see you soon.”
“Looking forward to it.”Julie waved as she signed off.
The com screen faded as John sat back. John knew that many thought the reports sent out by security was just another form of tattling, but John knew that the truth always had to be known. Picking up the crystal cube that held a single silver bullet he gazed at it he hoping he’d helped his captain.

Subject: The Warehouse......
Day 2, Whitefall – The Warehouse outside of Necessity, 9:00 PM PT
The kid had got the mule ready for the trip back to town. He’d got directions to the Warehouse from the Capt’n and they were now whisking their way south of Necessity. It was long before a huge metal building loomed up in front of them. All sorts of folks were headed in so Ash figured this must be the place.
The kid settled the mule into a handy spot and the crew head toward the big hanger doors. Music was coming from inside and soon there were good smells too. Asher’s mind rolled back to Ezra when the family would go the local farm fair. As they walked in it was all the kid could have hoped for, there are all sorts of food vendors, drink vendors and those carnival type games like knock over the milk cans and ring the bottle. There are jugglers, magicians and clowns. Some storage crates have been brought in for businesses to open up little shops selling clothing and trinkets. The Honeydew even has a double storage crate set up for … express service. The air smells of popcorn, grease and smoked meats. A huge smile crossed his face as he turned to take it all in. He nearly tripped on his own duster that he wore to conceal his shoulder rigs and his other toys.
Seemed the whole thing was staged around a center area where the main ring is the highlight of the event, set up on a platform so it is above the main ground but not high enough that people cannot see the fight. Lights set up to illuminate it well, and screens going up so those who can’t get close can see the battle. It has a large open area around it for the crowd to gather and then in the four corners of the Warehouse, there are smaller rings set up for other side fights for the hands that don’t want to fight Bart.
Asher was about ask Capt’n Wyatt if could see the sights when Eagle eye spoke up to Wolf.
“You want me to put you on the board or do you want to hold off and do the surprise challenge thing…. Up to you… If you go up now, people gonna be curious, wanna check you out – including Patience.”
Wyatt looks askance of his mechanic as if he's not keen on Wolf getting his face smashed just before they take on cargo. But Eagle's commentary sparks an immediate response from the captain.
"Don't put 'is name on the board,….I want no reason fer Patience t' be any more curious 'bout anyone of us than she already is."
The kid took that as enough to hang close just in case. As they walked he heard men setting up bets on side fights and got a bit confused on this odds thing. He couldn’t figure how it could be that if the odds were 5 to 1 and you put one credit you only got five back if your fella won. Wouldn’t that just be four and you own back so it was four not five?
Ash just shook his head and hoped they’d walk close to one of them popcorn stands.

Day 2, Whitefall - Necessity, Rocinante, 10:15 AM PT
There were sounds outside and footsteps on the steps outside. The men were coming back and at least two of them were heading into the office.
It wouldn’t go well to have them Governor’s lackies knowing Ash was here and it factually it would be better for Doc them thinking she was on her own. Following Stephanie’s voice Ash opened the door and quickly stepped in. When he turned to look around, Asher was … slightly surprised. There was Doctor Young sitting beside an older doctor, the two of them drinking tea. “Dr Young! This is my office and I will not be pushed around!” the older man shouted and the two of them suppressed giggles under their hands before noticing that Asher was standing there. Stephanie looked over, “I told you to get back to the boat and let Captain Sung know I’d be delayed. I don’t need a baby sitter, Mr Talhone.” She said and got up, handing a device she had in her hand to the other doctor, “So here you go as we agreed. If we can arrange it, I can drop off more equipment. It is really no bother, I get samples every times I go into a hospital.”
Asher stood there with his mouth hanging open.
“Thank you Doctor, but this is truly generous of you.” The Older doctor replied, “For the chance to pull the wool over Patience eyes, I would have helped you for free.”
“Well that being the case, I am glad to help, and thank you Doctor Amber.” Stephanie said and then turned back to Asher, “Shall we go?”
The kid snapped his mouth shut but then inquired, “What about that fella Petrie? He hadn’t look none too well? And the Govern’r has a couple of her men in the room out there. ”
“Petrie is fine, I will explain on the way back home. He has my ear piece so we can communicate later. Really Mr. Talhone, I have spent time on ship before, I am familiar with subterfuge.”
“Yes Miss Stephanie, it’s appear’n you know a good deal of the way of things. Ain’t no disrespect..just doing my job.”
Stephanie left the room with Ash behind her. There were two armed men in the waiting room who both stood up when Dr. Young entered the room. They looked over at Asher with a surprised look and then back to the Doctor.
“The patient is on the mend and my work here is done. Thank you gentlemen for waiting on him like a good group of friends. He should be right as rain in no time.” Stephanie said out loud in a tone of dismissal. “We will be off now.”
“Whoa!” The tallest of the two said, “Umm, our orders are to keep you here until the Governor gets back. Who is this guy anyway? So …”
“No.” Stephaine said firmly, “If your leader wished to talk to me she knows where to find me and I am much too busy to hang around some backwater butcher shack with young men who cannot think without a gun in hand…. I mean really? An 8 inch barrel? It screams compensation….. As to who this man is – He is Asher Talhone. You may have heard about him from the news recently. Held his ground against a thousand mercenaries on LV 426? Lived to tell the tale but not many of them did? Ringing a bell?”
The kid held back a smile…it would ruin the effect Doc had laid on them guards. So to add little substance to Doc’s inference the kid moved his coat just enough to show a PK12 in his shoulder rig and the Colt at his hip.
The shortest of the men dropped his pistol. He scrabbled to pick it up again.
“So right now Ash is humouring you, but unless you want to get on his bad side, I’d do what he says. I’m not saying he’s mad but he doesn’t want to be here and he doesn’t like babysitting me so he might be looking to kill someone right now. “
Asher furrowed his brow and clinched his teeth, him figured that might give him one them severe looks.
The room became really quiet as the two men looked at each other and back to Asher.
It was getting real hard for Asher to not bust out laughing but he thought he’d push the game a little more. So raising an eye brow, and taking noisy sniff through his nose he nodded toward the door.
The two men stepped out of your way and let the two leave the office. The guards outside started to move forward but the tall one waved them off with a scared look in his eyes.
“Now, Mr. Talhone, Where is our ride?”
“Well I am sorry about that Miss Stephanie, I hitched a ride over here so we best just walk purposefully down the rode a bit until our comm isn’t jammed anymore. With all these townsfolk start’n to look up to you we just might get lucky and find a ride down the road a piece.”
“I guess that will have to do for now, but you could try planning a little better in the future….by the way…nice acting.”
Asher nearly tripped as he busted out laughing, unable to hold it back any longer.
Day 2, Whitefall - Necessity, Rocinante, 10:25 AM PT
Wyatt, Sam, and Wolf came into Necessity via the mule, moving quickly but trying not to look like they were about to shoot up the town. As they got into town, they found Asher and Dr. Young walking down the street as if nothing unusual had happen. Just like a morning stroll in a town with no armed men chasing them or anything.
The kid took the opportunity to get his jab back, “Well there’s our ride… just like I planned.” Doc shot him look with just a hint of grin.
The mule pulled to halt and Doc Stephanie stepped up.
“Oh good!” the Doctor called out, “Thank you for coming, Captain. I wasn’t looking forward to the walk back to the ship. On the plus side, I can let you all in on what is happening with having to repeat myself over and over. Does anyone have any food? I’m starving.” She says as she climbs into the mule. Looking at the stares she is getting, “What? I did not eat breakfast.”

Stardate 2365.02.11 (Thursday - 42143.8 )
USS Peregrine; Shuttle Sierra One – 11:12
The shuttle sat in position, “The Coronado is still movin’ int’ attack position.” Megan nervously pointed out.”An’a that be straight down our throat.”
As they watched the Peregrine roared to life and the frigate rapidly closed the gap between itself and the menacing shape of the Coronado.
Reid had opened the comm so the crew listened in to what was happening.
=/="Captain, the Coronado has locked on to a Kuldar vessel and is closing to optimal firing range." =/= The Ops officer's voice was understandably tight.
“That must be the one behind us, they probably don’t even see us here.” Reid mumbled.
Megan’s hand moved slowly as she slides the little craft’s shields to full. “It much but an’a shield is better than none.”
Drake’s voice came over the comm, =/= "Lieutenant Berk, lock our phasers on the Coronado. Are those calculations complete?" =/=
The TAC officer Berk=/="Aye, Captain. Phasers are locked on. Calculations are complete." =/=
=/="Captain, the Coronado is charging her phasers!" =/= Lasad interjected.
After a short pause, =/= "Mister Berk, fire." =/=
An orange-red beam leapt from the Peregrine and lit up the shields protecting the Coronado, and within seconds was joined by two more. The older Miranda class vessel's deflectors gamely tried their best, dissipating the energy around the surface of the shield bubble, but they were no match for the Saber class frigate's damage output. The Peregrine kept the energy pouring out, and within a startlingly small window, the diplomatic ship's shields collapsed and she pitched to the side.
=/="Target shields are down, Captain," Berk spoke, "Minor hull damage inflicted." =/=
The crew of small craft could only watch and wait. “Nice shooting.”John commented.
Lasad spoke. =/="We are being hailed from the Coronado," =/=
Captain Jacobs spat, =/="You filthy piece of dog s…You treacherous bastard!" ……. "When this is over, I will hang you myself!" =/=
Lasad spoke up. =/="Captain, the Coronado is changing course, she's coming around." =/=
Watching the large ship change course the young pilot let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
Berk joined in, a note of panic in his voice. =/="Captain, they have locked phasers on us... they are firing!" =/=
“Sweet Mother of Glory what do be think’n…they ain’t got no shields and Peregrine can rip up.”
An instant later, =/="Direct hit, sir! Shields are holding." Lasad reported. "No physical damage, shields at ninety-two percent." =/=
Berk spoke up again. =/="Captain, the Coronado is charging for another shot..." =/=
Drake's voice cut through the chaos. =/="Captain Jacobs, stop this madness at once,… This has gone far enough!" =/=
The shuttle watched as the deck pitched again. =/= "Another direct hit, sir," the OPS chief reported. "Shields are holding, down to eighty-three percent." =/=
Over the comm they heard, Jacobs sneere. =/="What a surprise. The coward is not prepared to deal with the repercussions of his actions. Did you honestly think that I would be bullied by the likes of you, mister Drake?" =/=
Once again, the deck pitched. =/="Captain!" =/=The Risan OPS chief exclaimed. =/="Sir, one of the shield generators has failed! Backup coming online, overall shield capacity down to fifty-nine percent!" =/=
Reid started to feel that if continued to play out they just be the last Star Fleet vessel left in the area.
=/="Lieutenant Berk," Drake spoke calmly, "lock phasers on the Coronado. Target their phaser bank. On my mark, remove their offensive capabilities, please." =/=
=/="Phasers locked on, sir," Berk reported. "Captain, you do know that with no defector shields, even localized phaser damage will likely cause loss of life aboard the Coronado." =/=
Once again the shuttle crew hung on the pause, they knew that their fate also hung on the next actions.
=/="Captain Joshua Jacobs," Silas spoke aloud in a measured, almost disinterested tone, "as lawful commander of this battle group, I hereby find you unfit for duty. You are relieved of command of the USS Coronado, effective immediately. Commander Bethany Farr will now assume command of your vessel. My phasers are locked onto your own; if you do not comply, I will render your weapons useless. If that is not sufficient incentive to ensure your acquiescence, I will move on from there to cripple your engines." =/=
The strain in Jacobs voice was telling. =/="You wouldn't dare!" he shouted. "Even your treason does not run this deep! Our shields are down, thanks to you! If you fire on this vessel, you will surely kill Starfleet personnel!" =/=
=/="You are correct, Captain... and I will regret each and every one of their deaths for the short remainder of my own life. But you leave me no choice. I cannot allow you to harm my own personnel, nor can I allow you to kill innocent Kuldarians." Drake’s voice deadly calm, he continued. "You have ten seconds to comply." =/=
Reid turned to crew, “Strap in…this may be go badly…..”
Jacobs sputtered in fury. =/="I... I will do no such thing! You are bluffing! You will lose your commission, your freedom, your life! For what? Some ignorant, backwater sentients too stupid to take advantage of the dilithium under their noses? Why, I will…"=/=
=/="Your time is up. Mister Berk, fire on the Coronado pha..." =/=
=/="STOP!" =/= rang a feminine voice from the bridge of the Coronado. =/="Captain Jacobs, I relieve you. Please leave the bridge at once." =/= Commander Farr’s voice rang clear.
=/="Not now, Farr!" =/=Jacobs roared. =/="I don't have time for your nonsense right now, I..." =/=
Commander Farr interrupted. =/="Captain, I must insist. …Ensign Phillips will escort you to your quarters, sir. Please do not force us to stun you." =/=
Nurse Toriak raised an eye brow.
Jacobs gaped, =/="You will burn for this," =/=he spat. =/="The both of you." =/=
Farr’s voice sounded tired, =/="Phasers off line, Lewis. Helm, all stop." "What are your orders, Captain Drake?" =/=
=/="Hold position for now. Let's see if we can still salvage this thing. Drake out." =/=
A momentary feeling of relief came over the shuttle….then…..
=/="Captain, several ships from both sides are moving to engage one another. =/=” Lasad reported =/=Weapon systems are armed... it's about to become a full battle out there." =/=
“Oh crap………..” John blurted. “ Megan get us between those forces, keep the shields but expose our broadsides….we have to appear neutral…but be ready power up phasers.”
Sierra One banked sharply as Petty Officer Owen once again work her magic.
=/="NOW HEAR THIS!" Drake bellowed. "This is Captain Drake of the USS Peregrine. All Rytain and Kuldar forces will stand down AT ONCE. Power down your weapons systems and hold your positions! This is a peace summit, and as God is my witness, there WILL be peace talks - terrorist attack or no! If any vessel makes an aggressive move of any sort, I will cut through it like paper. The delegations will proceed as planned to the rendezvous at the station, OR ELSE. Drake out." =/=
=/="Captain, it worked!" Dio exclaimed. "all vessels have powered down their weapons." =/=
Silas sighed ever so slightly. =/="Inform the Coronado to resume their original path to the station. Offer the Rytain our assistance in their rescue and recovery efforts; we can dispatch another shuttle if they want our help. Lieutenant Zai, lay in a course for the station; I want these diplomats off my ship." =/=
Reid chuckled at that last comment, he guess Capt’n Drake hadn’t interned for it to over the comm.
Clicking on Sierra’s comm, “Reid to Berk”. A moment later, =/=Berk here. =/=
“Sir tell the Captain we are in position to aid….. we await orders…..by the way….nice shooting…Sir”
