The days started to pass and outside the manor a strange rain had been falling. Ulthok had used this time to study his spell book and his new companions. He had felt foolish that he was caught without his weapons. Although a skilled mage he was also an accomplished fighter when the need arose. Being armed to the teeth gave him great options to defend his companions. He never wanted to be totally unarmed again so when he healed from battles in the street he retrieved the Scroll of Tattoo from his pack and unrolled it. In privacy of his he read the words scribes on the parchment.

When a Wizard or Thief, who is at least 10th Level reads this scroll, a dark blue & black tattoo of a dagger appears on the characters forearm and the scroll dissolves. At the time of the casting of the spell the caster suffers 1d4 points of burning damage. By placing his hand on the hilt of the dagger tattoo and saying the words “Para Mi” the weapon becomes a real +3 dagger. To return it to his or her body the thief must place it in the same area of the forearm as before saying the words “De Mi”. The dagger again becomes a normal tattoo. The tattoo and magic are permanent once cast, however if the dagger ever leaves the possession of its owner it dissolves and is gone forever. In addition it must always be in contact with the owners skin. Therefore the owner cannot throw it, hold it in a gloved hand, give it away or drop it.

As the parchment dissolve the silhouette of a dagger appeared on his forearm. The sting on a burning sensation accompanied its appearance. As into his grip solidified a weapon of last resort. The handle was comfortable in his grip. Gazing at the blade he whispered “Never again.” Peri stirred in the her now usual sleeping pie pan, before she could awaken he muttered “De Mi” and the dagger returned to the tattoo on his arm. Now his thought drifted to the party. Weaver had returned, Sirene had broken out of depression, Valene was reaching out to her deity instead of him and new members had joined. The battle in the dining room had yielded some items that could be of use. Ulthok placed the Dagger of Venom in the sheath on his belt. He now had two ring to share. He’d removed a Ring of Invulnerability and Ring of Elemental Control from the Black Mage. Sirene traded he Ring of Animal Friendship for the Ring Of Elemental Control. So he could offer these to the party if they needed them. Finishing dressing to include his melee weapon and pulling a dark object from his pouch and placed it in his cloak.

Ulthok has seen that Aliya would spend her relaxing time in the gathering room either studying or knitting. This is where he found her this evening. “Lady Aliya,” Ulthok bowed slightly as he approached, “I have seen you preparing by advancing your studies. I apologies for not spending time to help you feel more welcome to our group. Allow me to make amends.” From under his cloak he pull a book. He had remembered Haila’s spell book. The mage Aliya seemed young, but there was strength in her manor that showed her determination. The Halfling knew too well that the group needed to be as strong as it could be. Their lives depended on the skills of each member so he had decided to share spell with the half elf. Ulthok had kept Haila’s spell safe after the party had copied each other’s spells, he wasn’t quite sure why, perhaps out of respect or it was just against his training to let sometime so powerful slip away. “You may be able to use some more spells…our friend Haila left this behind when she lost her life defending us….she will continue to defend us if you can learn some of these. Copy the ones you need into yours book and return this to me. If this there is time I will share me spell book too.” Handing the book to Aliya he also questioned, “Could you use a magic ring too?”

I grew up watching Gun Smoke. It can on in Sept of 1955 when I was 4. That's the time I started playing Cowboys and Indians.

Along with Roy & Dale. Cisco Kid, Gene, Paladin, Rifleman, Lone Ranger and on and on. That was my youth.

Astrid, I could have Ulthok come in and hand your mage the spell book of Haila to copy her spells. Haila died in the mountain but we kept her book and we all shared her spells.

A later time Ulthok can lend his book but he needs to study now too.

Ash would have out of that round dark spot in the upper left corner of the center section. Then spotted the ASREV and Wyatt. Crawled left to aft over that big ring trying to stay out of sight as much as possible. Staying prone and hiding behind that big thing in the center of the aft over the main engine section, using it as cover.

Asher ran down the corridor to the ladder up to the EVA hatch. Quickly climbing up he opened the Eva hatch that lead to the outside of the Roc. Cautiously he opened the hatch crawled out carefully across the upper haul. Working his way aft he crawled over the Gravity Rotor Housing. The kid knew that would most likely be someone still in the command seat of the ASREV and he needed to stay low. Maneuvering behind the Reaction Control Tower and RCS Thruster Housing Ash caught sight of Wyatt crossing to meet the federal Marshall. Swinging his GRZ 1 Assault Rifle into position the kid was ready to provide the needed public relations.

Subject: Clues We Have Been Given..........

The water sound seemed to be a quarter mile away or 440 yards.
We move toward it 100 yards, now 340 yards away.
Pirates are 100 yards behind us and closing.

We hear the sounds of water, but this place is desolate.
Water attracts animals and is a reason to build a city.
No life but water is wrong. Likely to be tainted waters.

Rubble is not good to run across, but this a city so there should be street/path with less rubble.

I doubt we can cover the 340 yards before the pirates catch us. There are no walls left to hide behind. So should we find the high ground and defend it. A mount that causes the pirates fight up hill and gives us better view? The piles of broken bones will make it harder for them to advance.

The Druid will gladly protect the squishy Bard.

We have two holy men and niether has "Turn Undead",
The Paladin does so that's a plus.

Tohmas can cast "Entangle" while some of the pirates are still coming through the bush. That should at least slow some of them.

Remember, Protect Your Healers!!!

We seem to be being driven toward the water sound, this may not be good.

Killing the dead may be tough seeing that they are already dead. Just how much effect can an arrow have on bone?

Seems like hack, slash and crunch time.

The sneek peck said that Crow and Tohmas couldn't tell how old the ruins were but could they guess about how old they seemed? 100 years, over 100? They would resemble something.

Also we should remember this is an island and resources are not plentiful, so recycleing would be natural. The wreckage would show it was not easy to get stuff by sea and the mountains restrict land travel. So both Tomas and Crow may come to that conclusion. We need to look for trails and other signs. So we can decide which way to go next. Hopefully Hammer will give us some good clues in his post or we can ask questions here.

Subject: Caught Up... Sort of........

I think I've caught up to everyone now. Set it up for Tohmas to be looking for information along with treasure. I think that updating the maps for Mad Dog would be valuable too. Information can be traded and sold too. Bards and Mages usually write so it might be natural for them to update their maps and chronicle our travels. Every epic tale is told by song from Bards. Tohmas would just do pictographs on his map. Barabarion symbols for things such as mountains, caves, dwellings, ect.

The dock seemed to stretch out forever. He was one with the land and now he would be beyond her sight. As a boy he’s learned to swim the rivers but now this boat would carry him away. The thought of leaving the land was the most frightening thing he’d even done.

Tohmas was the last up the gangway. As Mad Dog started his introductions of the crew the Druid placed his gear by the mast. Tohmas thought if he sat there below the edge of gunnels he would only see the sky. To keep his mind off the trip he listened closely to the man that had given them the gold. All of his men showed their clan loyalty by wearing his totem. The eye patch that showed the image of the toothless dragon and each wore it with pride.

Once everyone had been introduced, Mad Dog Muldoon handed each of the 10 adventurers a matching black eye patch stitched with the Red Toothless Dragon design!

"Ye Kin Wear Em! Ye Kin Carry Em!

"Jes Keep Em Close At Hand N Safe!

"Ye Never Know Jes When Er Where Ye Need Ta Show These Fer Safe Passage Or Help!"

Tohmas noticed that Captain Crayfish, Dagger and the Stout Hearts exchanged knowing glances at one another! He would remember that Mad Dod’s totem must be kept, there was more to these then just a loyalty totem.

Tohmas sat himself down at the mast and for next five days through rain, storm, dark and sun he meditated and chanted. The only times he left his place was to get food or to relieve himself. He thought these sailors strange to call the place you sat a “head”. From time to time Crow would come by or others in the group, Tohmas welcomed them and shared stories of homes and people. The shaman grew to feel closer to these that would his clan for a while.

When the sixth came and land was sighted. The Captain garthered the group and had the first mate give them each some coins explaining to them that the coins are for any expenses they may encounter after they enter the city!

"Any Expenses! Any Expenses!"

Tohmas rose and scanned the shoreline. As the ship passed into an inlet the debries of many ruined ships lay along the beach. This was not a peaceful place. By passing the wrecks they travel a way farther before they were put ashore. Traveling inland seven of the crew set up a defensive camp as the party traveled farther up the rise.
Cresting the rise they saw the remains of a decimated city. Rubble lay where clearly building once stood. Tohmas listened as the others discussed that this could not the city that had shown on their maps. The mountain range in the distance also did not show.

The talk got to whether or not go and search the remains. They could return to the ship and sail around to the city on the map. Tohmas had enough of ships for now and glad to be on firm ground again.

“Even if we find nothing we may learn something, let us see to the city. From there we can cross the mountains. What we are sent to seeker will not likly be in a new city.”

Towns were not the areas where Tohmas felt comfortable. Roaming the plain and forest, finding natural shelters or sleeping under the stars was what he knew. The young Shaman had seen the one called Crow among those gathered to answer the call for “Seeker”. He had crossed paths with ranger in the lands to the north and perceived him to be more experienced in these crowded settlements. Knowing that knowledge brought strength the plainsman persuaded the Elf to show him the ways of the city. They traveled the crisscrossing paths and trials lined by wood and stone lodges. Tohmas learned that these were not just lodgings, but many were only for trade and those provided food and services. There parts of the town where the women were very friendly, they beckoned to come join them, but Crow drew him away. Tohmas wondered why the ranger did not want to enjoy the pleasures of the ladies, but he figured the Elf had his reasons. Perhap it had something to with the ranger not wearing a cover on his head. Those that spent much time in the sun and rain know to protect their head. The Elf had made joke to the broad brimmed leather hat Tohmas wore. The Shaman felt he could repay the ranger by advising him to “get his own”, but the ranger didn’t seem to understand and continued to joke. His teachers had been correct that too time in the hot sun without protect could cook your thought.

But at least Crow taught him that in the town they traded their coins for food and drink. The ranger also showed him that he didn’t need to sleep in the stable but instead he could stay in the lodge in his own room with a bed raised on legs. There was bedding and a large stuffed sack that cover the raised frame, much like the piles of grass he had been taught to gather to place beneath blankets. But the most odd item was a pot that was tucked away under the bed. He nearly fell over laughing when Crow told him of it use. Why would a person wish to keep their excrement in their living space and expect someone else to dispose of it? Although this did answer his thought of where these towns folk went to relieve themselves. It wasn’t like they had peaceful grove.

As the days pasted Tohmas learned much of the life in the town. Crow finally explained that the ladies traded their affection for coins and that sometimes they would rob those they were with or perhaps a brigand would ambush the unsuspecting. Tohmas was now able to find his way alone and memorized the way to the docks.

The day finally arrived when they were set off on their journey. Rising early Tohmas found a quiet location for his morning devotions. Completing his respects to Altira, and now familiar with the ways of the Inn, he ordered a hearty breakfast, settled his debt for the room and left the remained of him coin in safe keeping at the Inn. Tohmas was eager to learn more of the ways of those outside the “People”. This knowledge would help him find the fabled lands, but now he had to travel on the water. Travel had always been along the land so he could move among the clans. The plains and forests were his domain, why would he bypass them. The thought of not having firm ground beneath his feet gave him pause. Would separation from the land separate him from his goddess?

Arriving at the dock Tohmas saw that the ranger was already there, perhaps he was eager or he felt it was his place scout the area first. Tohmas was teller than most the group that had gathered at the Inn and he did not wish to draw attention to himself so he assumed a pose of contemplation next to Crow while they waited for the others to arrive.
