Tohmas stood quietly behind the folks as they scanned over the pictures the man had called maps. He could see what looked like drawings with lines and shapes and words. They resembled the pictures the Shaman drew in the dirt to show the people where to find food and water. He had never seen it placed on hide to carry. Maybe he find one of these that showed had to get the fabled lands.

Among those gathered he saw an Elven woodsman he had met in the northern country. The man had seemed to understand the ways of nature and treaded lightly upon the earth. Raising his hand he gave the ranger the sign of “friend”. There were still several days before they would leave, perhaps the ranger would know how to spend time in a town.

I guess it is all in how you read:
"Now take dese here maps so ye kin all decide among yerselfs as to where ye be figurrin ta set sail in three days!"

I felt we got a bunch of different maps to look through. I can see that it could read read as all the same map so more folks could study the same details.

Who ever heard of a ranger needing a map? Don't they KNOW where to go?

That almost as bad as range that asks directions.

Oops, I forgot we are only level one adventurers, so ok give the ranger the map, he probably needs it, lol.

Subject: Good Weed?

The mage had taken the time to rest a bit and to visit the kitchen. Entering the kitchen the smells of baking filled the room as setting out cool were apple pies, apple tarts and apple dumpling. The cooks had thought the Fairy Dragon had been a cute pet, but after the Bhut attack they saw how she took Ulthok request to protect them seriously. That long day of battles outside she had kept appearing and vanishing as if on guard, checking on their well being. They could sense there was more to this creature than butterfly wings and they wanted to repay the little protector.

There on the sideboard, asleep in an empty pie pan his companion lay while the staff watched over her. Nodding to the staff Ulthok started to gathered a plate of food for himself. The head cook took his plate and led him to the dinning table. “Master Ulthok….. you will need not lift a plate while you stay here. You and your friends risked your lives here to help us and you left us in marvelous hands …or claws. Miss Peri shall have her pies every day, thank you Master Ulthok.” The Halfling knew that hospitality was great gift from staff and it would rude to not acknowledge the gesture. The Mage bowed deeply to the staff, “ It is our honor to serve those that serve, thank you for caring for us.” From there the evening flowed with food and drink.

The mood had been quiet as the party dined. Sirene and Lothor shared a bit time and Cor introduced the new members to the party. The new mage offered up keg of ale and invited the group to enjoy. Weaver had been away from group and seemed to be still a bit ill at ease. But the bard was a bard so he pressed on. ”The keg! Uthlok, Cor as the good Lady Alyia has offered. Do any need more filler? Uthlok, do you recall the pipe weed from the mountain feast we had? I wonder if you have any more.' Just as Weaver reaches the door he turns. Cor and Uthlok are still holding their mugs. 'This is why I make a better bard then a servant.' retrieving the mugs he turns to the ladies, 'Speaking of being a bard, do you two like music? You see I have several small wooden flutes,' weaver fumbled with the mug and flutes and such.

Watching the poor fellow Ulthok had to chuckle, “Oh Master Bard if you can just get those mugs filled you will indeed be rewarded the mellow smoke you desire…. I happen to have a bit here with me and seeing you have rejoined us I’ll be sure you have a pouch full of your own.”

Subject: Talking at the Inn.....

Glad to see some in character posts about the group talking over the maps.

We need someone to step up and take charge of the maps.

Crow is a ranger but he he may not be the right one to carry the maps.

Maybe the lady bard would be the one to keep all these young turks in line. Her Elven sence of order and organization might lend well to that.

The Gnome might work in character too.

Arelder is the oldest human so it might be natural for the other to tend to listen to him and fellow him for a bit..

I vote the illusionist as starting leader.

Subject: Tohmaz Goodwood, Shaman of the Wimachtendienk…..

In the time before most men could remember, his people had lived in the Northern Marches of New Aenoch. They had stayed even when others felt the land turning to evil. When the Horned One had released his horde they were among the last driven out.

In small bands they wandered wide, covering all of the known lands. So it was that they would be there to serve and protect, then move on. Among themselves they were known as “Wimachtendienk”, the Brotherhood. Those outside the people only knew that they had been help by the wild folks passing through and never realized that the Brotherhood was ever watching over the land.

The children of the people stayed with their birth mother. She tended their needs and sheltered them, but the tribe raised them. Although the birth father may be known, he was just the one that give the seed of life, the tribe rejoiced in that life, all taking part in the raising and teaching of the children. So it was that all were of the same family. The pairing of a man and a woman was not seen as something that was permanent unless those two chose to make it so. But this did not change the feeling of love and respect that was shared among the people. The sharing of seed and the bringing of life were part of the natural order.

As the young grew they felt the love of the people around them and in turn learned to love and respect all. They learned to love and respect nature. They learned to track and tread lightly upon the land, to hunt, to cook, make the daily things a tribe may need. They also learned to protect the people, the knife, the tomahawk, the lance and the bow became as part of them. The ways of war were taught as these were still unsafe times. Each of them then choosing what they felt the strongest, be that serving the needs in the camp, providing for the band, tending the needs of the body or protecting the people.
Tohmaz found he had a sense of the forest, the balance of nature and healing those in need. To this end he dedicated himself to Goddess Atira.

He had grown up hearing of the wilds at the foot of the Ridge. His heart yearned to see the lands of fable. He hoped that someday he could walk the old Forrest in her name and heal it from the deeply root evil that had so long dwelt there. And perhaps one day carry her healing power beyond to Blighted Screed.

With this dedication came the choice that he would have to leave his band. He would wander the lands learning the secrets of the plants and animals. Also seeking out the wise and learned of the people. Living with them, serving them and learning from them the secrets of the life forces. Plants, animals and the land itself had names, ways that he must know.

The Shaman of each band shared the rites and ways to relieve suffering, to cure diseases, heal wounds and to relieve pain. Through their teachings he learned how the human touch could aid in the healing of mind and spirit. The tender caress, the warmth of the body soothed and calmed. The Shaman also led him to those from outside of the “People” that shared their ways and knowledge. To them the Shaman were considered “Wild Druid”. The Druids accepted the Shaman and taught them their ways, spells and language.

The years passed and the boy grew to Manhood. Tohman stood tall, over six foot. His dark tanned body was strong and muscular. The sandy brown hair was tied back in a ponytail with a leather band around his head to keep any stray hair from falling in his eyes. His voice was a rich baritone that made the reciting of rituals sound almost like song. Dark brown eyes were set deep in chiseled face. It was little wonder that the woman of the bands took him and taught him the ways of pleasure. They shared themselves with him and taught him how to bring joy to the woman he was with. The harmony of spirit and love of people strengthened his healing skills.

The Shaman also taught him the ways of logic. To see what was best for all and how guide others to these ends. To learn that it is not the imposed will on the people that made things right, but right that made the will of the people. That great events can start from a small nudge. They taught him of his responsibility to uphold the high ideals, to be prepared and to not bring ill light on the ways of the Shaman. For it only take one false heart to taint all.

The day came when the teachers turned him out. They had nothing more to teach. He now had to wander, practice his skills and find his way. The time would come when he would find the band that would need him and he would stay with them. So as he departed he was given simple basic supplies. His clothing he had made himself, breeches, loin cloth, deer skin shirt and soft soled boots. He had tooled hide into leather and the leather into strong protective armor. The silhouette of a woman’s face was tooled below his left shoulder, the face of Atira. The armor was both strong and light weight, colored to bland in to the forest. It would help protect from the elements as well as attackers weapons. A floppy broad brimmed leather hat protected his head and eyes from the sun and rain. A long blade sheath knife and tomahawk hung from a waist belt. A strong hunting bow and quiver of arrows hang the backpack he had sewn. A warm wool sleeping blanket was rolled and tied to the pack. A reinforce water pouch hung from a long strap over his shoulder. In his pack were sacks of dried food and grain, flint and a sparker, bowls, sewing supplies, simple tools and rope.

Towmaz set out and for two years traveling alone. He served and healed the people and those other humans that crossed his path. His skills in the forest to heal damage that raiding Orcs and other creatures had brought him feeling closer to his Goddess. He helped farmers to bring their lands to bare crops where once was barren land. He could feel Atira’s presents and felt guided by her will. The old feeling of his youth grew stronger; the he wanted to return to the old lands and to cleanse them in the name of Atira.

He journeyed near the city of Heristat. Here he heard of a call for the strong of heart to travel and free the land that had been held by the evil for so long. This must be the will of Atira; that he should go to learn how to find a way the to Saelic Forest. So Tohmaz sought out where they were seeking volunteers. When he arrived there they were still taking members so he made his mark in the book. The Shaman took the gold offer but then had placed it in safe keeping for him. As he listened to the man that had called for the seekers he heard they must travel by boat. He had never been on a boat before and he was uneasy to go on board.

----------------------
Morning Three Days Later.........

Being one of last he gathers his pack and walked to dock and up the gangway. He had expected to see many onboard, but there few besides the crew. There were barely enough for a hunting party, was this to the band he would serve? Carrying his pack to the center of the boat Tohmaz sat on the deck so he couldn’t see the water and leaned against the mast.

Subject: Hey Gang............

I think it is usually wise to take the DM's advice about things being too dangerous for the party, especially a bunch of LEVEL ONE nuckleheads. We are sooooooooo weak a strong breeze could cause us trouble.

So let's just keep it simple and head to Tagea. There are two towns that might provide food and safety to a bunch newbe adventures. Remember we are only level one and doubt many of you have played from level one in a long time. Almost EVERYTHING is stronger than a level one. We could run into robbers and THEY are stronger than we are . Only our number of ten members helps by reducing the odds against each of us. We need to gain some XP so we can level to 3 or 4 to take on some real badies. So let's go camping on Tagea, visit the two towns, find out if there are any interesting "Old" spots where Pirates or such may stashed loot from raiding ships leaving or entering the Innes River. Returning some of that kind of loot would get us XP and maybe some minor fame in character.

Where would I find the list on ceremonies to know a which level they can be used.

There was a "Rain Dance" that was used for healing that could come in handy. As you said is Crusaders Tohmas was 2nd level but he had that rain dance ceremony. I used it after the first encounter to heal one of our party. I just don't remember how we established it.

Subject: And So On............

Armed to the teeth Ulthok joined his companions as they rushed from the manor to aid the city guard against the force that had breached the city wall. With his Sword of Lighting Quickness in hand it wasn’t long before they encounter Goblins, Orcs and Bugbears.

Lothor and Lady Jessica used their armor and skill to slow the advancing creatures. Ulthok had used several of his area spells, but in close fighting he prove once again he more than just a spell slinger. The streets were soon wet with the blood of the foul beasts that would invade the city. The party drove on through the city, each having the others back.

The battle in the manor had left Ulthok burned and injured. His wounds seeped through the blisters from the fireplace but as it had been from the start the time for healing was when there wasn’t a chance of more injury. So on for the next twelve hours they pressed on. Final the tide was turned and the creatures were routed.

Bone weary the group made their way back to the manor. Once again they gathered in their common room, but this they kept their arms and armor. Rayne and Cor checked the house hold staff healing the injuries they received from Bhut attack. Valene lingered to tend to Ulthok. He had come to know her touch and the grace of deity now soothed the pain and healed the blister, cuts and bruises from the night combat. For the next hours they eat, rested and were glad to still be together.

After two days a call came the Palace, the Council of Kings summoned Ulthok and Cor to report. Here they learned that the fighting had struck deeply as two the King and a Prince were lost to the attack. Addressing their King Maridynn they told of the surprise attack in the manor by the Black Robe and it’s minions. Here they learned that the Black Robe were evil magical clones of a single formidable Mage.
When the reports were done King Maridynn called forward two armored ladies. King indicated that with the coming battles his special force needed more strength. To this he was adding a Fighter Mage and a Cleric to aid them. These were the Elf Cleric Amara Lania’Drian and her Half-Elf sister Aliya Moonshadow. It would that the mage had been called from her duties with guard in the city for her was soiled and touch of fatigued lingered on her face. After the introductions the King left them to their needs to return to the manor.

Cor however lead the group to the hall of healing where their skills could aid the valiant that now lay battered and wounded. As they walked Ulthok seemed to feel a bit of tension from the new members. He hoped he could make them feel more welcome when they were introduced to the others, but now they would do their share in helping.

Moving among the injured Ulthok heard a familiar voice, 'I know that smell!' 'So tell me Master of Shadows, Does he still drink during battle?' Across the room Ulthok saw a messy, hairy man that had aided them in their time of need and entertained them in their moments of rest.

There sat Weaver coughing a bit and then wincing in pain. Calling out Ulthok waved to the young half/elf sitting in a bed with is feet hanging off the side, holding the bandage around his waist, and reaching for his pants.
"Weaver, oh great master bard, what trouble have you gotten yourself into without us to keep watch over you.”

The nurse rushes over yelling, 'I have told you not to move!'

Weaver looks at her pointing to Dwarven Cleric moving among patients, 'Hold your tongue still woman! Master Cor is here now! He will see me fit to leave this house of death.'
Laughing Ulthok said,”And if he doesn’t we will….. friend I’ll trade you a tall stein of ale for a short story of what you’ve been doing.” The party gathered around the ranger, Cor added to the healing and soon they all headed back to the manor.

Ulthok Wand can do a Sunburst that drops undead.

Oh well, I'll just forge ahead.

I'll just have to drink and then it will all be clear....

A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And, when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine!

That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

The buffalo theory is concrete proof that getting drunk is good for your intelligence.
