As the body smoldered Ulthok search the remains of dead Black Mage. He removed a ring from each hand and found a deadly looking dagger from its boot. The Halfling carefully wrapped the blade in case it was poisoned. The robe had to magic, evil magic.

The thought of the Black Robe Mage being reanimate gave Ulthok pause. The creature was hard enough kill once….. but as an undead? Reaching into his pouch he found the needed elements. Uttering a few choice words a beam emitted from hand and where it touched the Black Robed Mage it just ceased to exist. In short order the Black Robe was gone.

Crossing the room the mage saw the Cor was gathering the party to check on their condition. From out came the sounds of more battle. He knew these not the end of the night. “Cor..sounds like we have more work to do outside. I’ll meet you in the courtyard.” Ulthok ran back to his room and dressed for battle. Swords, bow, knives and the rest of usual toys.

Rushing back and joining his companions they set to the bloody task of defending the city.

The party moved toward the seeming safer kitchen. The last cone of cold had also reduced the steam so Ulthok now saw the damage his and Cor's attacks had done along with the valiant Jessica. With the help of which ever deity was watching over them they had vanquished the enemy in the room.

Wanting to know more about the Black Robed One Ulthok moved to the oddly looking burned and frozen body. The cross fire of Flame Strike and Cone of Cold had proven an odd but deadly combination. This "thing" had great magic so Ulthok quickly search the remains removing all the items it had or carried.

The Black Robe itself might be of interest to study for possible magic but it was badly damaged from the flame strike.

Before join the rest of the party Ulthok also checked the now human forms of the dead Bhuts, any items on those bodies might further explain the creatures or provide useful items for the..... party, of course.

Depending on what the removed loot might do, Ulthok would keep these safe for the party and him to use.

The steam was covering the room even after the cone of cold could have cooled some of the steam. As he contemplated his next move he could hear the sounds of fighting then a flash of light and the sound of a lightning bolt came from the manor hall.

Reaching out his thought, ”Peri, what did you see in the hall as you flew down here?”

The small voice came to his mind, Just some more of those ugly thingies and the tall fighter man. He needed some help so I made one of the thingies dance.

Now does he follow his own advice and treat to the kitchen or go into the hall to help Lothor or try again to kill the Black Mage?

Listening intently he could hear the Mage or tell where it had been. The foot falls of the Halfling cleric told him Valene had made her way to the kitchen. The flutter of wings told him Peri too was heading to the kitchen.

”Ok there it is. “Cor, quick let’s get out of here while we can….. to the kitchen.” Knowing the Dwarv could handle himself Ulthok made his way through the steam to the kitchen behind his other friends.

As Ulthok moved toward the kitchen he remember the elemental that had been moving on Valene was over near the windows. Knowing Cor would stay to the inside wall and the others were behind him already, Ulthok pointed him wand of frost to were it may be and once more cast out a cone of cold in hopes of capturing the elemental.

(O.O.C., Ulthok is invisible as goes to the kitchen.)

Peri fluttered invisibly near the fighting lady. From across the room she heard her companion’s voice, “ Everyone..quick everyone to the kitchen…..Peri, show the lady knight the way………Jessica... watch for cute flying thing and follow her.”

“ A cute flying… THING?” Peri mused. “Well at least he did call me cute.”

Floating up just above Jessica’s head, out of reach of the Bhuts, Peri said, “Lady Knight”as she appeared close enough for Jessica to see, “this way to the kitchen, be careful not to trip and watch out for more of those ugly thingies in the kitchen.” Through the stream Peri flew toward the kitchen doors.

Subject: Sound About Right.....

Ulthok is CG so that is most likely how it would work out. I think what Tann had more in mind was the contact back to the King to assign the mission and report back. There is a diffenece between Leader and Director. Ulthok is rogue and leadership by default is more like making Han Solo leader. A rogues idea isn't always the best, but it's what they know. Survival is a big thing with them, the hidden hero is another.

As a player I like talking out ideas in Q&A and then trying them out in game. We have had our best success doing that. Coordinate attacks work better so we have each other's back. Also other players see pitfalls in ideas that we my miss.

So Ulthok doesn't want to be King and niether does Ody. We both do like to have an idea of what the others in the party plan to do. Sort of like you can do as you please but let others know so we can advise, help or stay out of the way.

Well if Ulthok has to lead this will get a bit different. He is an awful flirt accept in combat. Hewill respect each party member as a party member, they won't be male or female as he sees them. Now he'll enjoy the he / she stuff but he'll expect each to be a party member.

So let's go!

LV-426, Inside of Rocinante Port Shuttle 7:25 am PT
No sooner had Ash called Willow for help when the couple separated. The man fell backwards and the girl reached out grabbing Wyatt’s arm. Then suddenly the captain did something ... unexpected.

Wyatt pulled the young Amber into an embrace and the two were kissing passionately like ... well like her and the other guy were just a few minutes ago. Amber tore open Wyatt’s shirt as he struggle to get his arms under his suspenders and undo his gunbelt.

The kid stared in disbelief he saw a small amount of blood on the sleeve of the captain where the girl was holding him. There was something on her finger digging into his arm and he was sure that was the cause of all this ... fruitfulness and multiplying.

It didn't take a gorram genius to see that captain was in trouble and that girl had just inflicted some kind injection on his arm. Moving quickly Ash used one of the moves he'd learned from Miss Willow with a bit of improvise.

Raising a leg as if side kick he placed boot on Wyatt's hip as he grabbed the girl's forearm. A quick push, pull and twist. Ash shoved Wyatt away as he spun pulling the girl away, twisting her arm out around and backing it up behind her back. Keeping a tight grip on her wrist he grabbed her free arm and pull back behind too.

"Miss, don't struggle, I don't mean to hurt you but you've just hurt the wrong man." As he succeeded in making the move, the device on her finger fell off and landed on the floor of the shuttle, rolling in a circle toward Wyatt who was standing there for a few seconds in shock of what just happened. He rubbed the arm that had been pricked by the device but gave Asher a quick nod to show that he was still in control of faculties – or at least was once again in control.

The girl fell to the floor crying, “No! Give that to me! I have to have it! You ... don’t know what it is like to ... Please.” From a kneeling position in front of Asher, she looked up mumbling, “I’ll do anything just give it back.” She crumpled to the ground in a fetal position crying and shaking. There was blood on her fingertip as well, just like the needle hole in Wyatt’s arm. Asher had seen someone in the grips of drug dependency once act like this before but this was something beyond anything he had ever witness in his life.

As Wyatt started to recover he knew he should get the girl out there. Seeing the girl laying naked there Ash felt his face was redder and not from the exertion to separate the girl from Wyatt. He quickly stepped over to a storage bin and pulled out two emergency blankets (The silver lined thermal ones) to toss one over Cameron and wrap the other around Amber.

"Miss you need to get to Miss Willow. I sure hope she heard me and is on her way."

No sooner had he placed the blankets around the man and over the girl when Willow appeared in the shuttle doorway. She quickly surveyed scene, she seemed to recognize people.

"Captain? I .... uh....let's get these two to my medical bay - I know both of these people, but I'm pretty certain they didn't know each other...before today, that is. I'd seen Amber earlier and was worried about her. She seemed to be under the influence of something,"

Willow had crouched beside Amber to check her hand, but then spotted the device on the shuttle floor."This is the likely culprit, though I have no idea what it is." She scooped up the device and dropped it in her pocket.

The gunslinger stepped over toward Miss Willow, "Are they going to be ok?" The ships medical expect looked up and smiled. The kid had seem that look before from folk that weren’t sure how to say “Thank You.”

Willow continued, "I'll need to get them stabilized - I don't like Cameron-san's colour, but I don't think this is a drug. That thing had no reservoir for a liquid, so I suspect it's a neuro-stimulator of some kind. Can you carry Amber, Ash?

The kid bent down, wrapped the girl securely in the blanket and lifted her gently. Cradling the trembling young lady Ash waited to follow as Miss Willow continued.

We'll have to get help with Cameron-san. Captain-san, are you able to walk to the bay unassisted? I'm thinking I'd better check you, as well."

Ulthok couldn’t believe the luck. Who’d have thought Cor would cast fire just as he cast cold. Ablanket of steam filled the room. The heat of the steam prevented he from seeing a clear image of the Black Robe but it did provide cover for the party. “ Everyone..quick everyone to the kitchen…..Peri, show the lady knight the way………Jessica... watch for cute flying thing and follow her.”

Ulthok could catch glimpses of his friend starting to move, but not all of them. Hoping to use the steam to help slow the Black Robe, the mage pulled is wand of frost and cast another cone of cold into the area where the Black Robe had been. The cone should expand enough to catch the Black Robe and the steam should freeze around him.

If Tann will forgive me, I'll get something up tomorrow and we move forward.

If not then the out line was for Ulthok to call out everyone to go the kitchen. Peri to show Jeesia the way and Ulthok blasts off some magic missles into space were the Black robe was last seen.

I'll flash that out.

Topic: The Leather Coats Avengers
Subject: Enter Jym Enen.....

To watch the Gnome move about the fort you would never have known the time and effort required to get him to this point. A little over a year ago Jym Enen , that’s what he calls himself now, had been brought to fort by one the regular patrols. They had encountered an encamped band of renegade Gnolls. Most of the Gnolls successfully fled but a few unwisely attacked the patrol, believing they were the superior number. As the patrol was cleaning up the Gnoll camp they found a bundle containing what was surely to had been intended to be the Gnoll’s next meal.

The naked Gnome they found bound and gagged had been severely beaten. His skill was crushed, nearly all his limbs broken and several large gashes crudely covered so as to keep his juices in long enough to keep the meat fresh. The patrol was amazed too that this pulp was still live. The best the healer could do in the field was to closed the wounds and relieve as much of the pain as he could. The patrol carried the Gnome back to the fort where he was places in the infirmary. The fort log listed him as GMNN 49269, that being Gnome Male, No Name and the log number 49269.

The healers were able to keep him alive. They worked long to set his bones and close the seeping gashes. The disfigured creature didn’t regain consciousness for two weeks. When it came to it opened its eyes but there was little spark in the pale blue that stared out. Several more weeks passed before its jaw was healed enough to move. The healer asked him, “Gnome, it is a wonder you are still with us, could you tell me your name?”

A great look of concern flashed across the Gnome’s face. Barely able to form words the Gnome mumbled back, “No.” It became clear to the healer through the rest of his questions that the Gnome seemed to have no memory of his life before he had opened his eyes in the infirmary.

The next week they worked to help the Gnome use his hands again. Bringing him a knife and small chunks of wood he grasped and moved them in tortured hands and fingers that had been broken in an attempt to remove a plain silver ring and an old worn indistinguishable signet ring. The craving provided enough effort to build his dexterity and control. The healers were also delighted by the skill and craftsmanship as the wood became beautiful items.

Then they brought stones and tools; he needed to build more strength touch to split and shape the stone into anything other than a pile of rubble. But little by little raw stone turn to fine gem. There were many skills buried in that body with the locked mind.

It was decided to get him up and move him about. The legs that had been bent and broken were now straight but had no strength to hold even a Gnome. Daily he hobbled to the blacksmith’s barn; there he was given small tasks to force him to lift, walk, swing and do other thing to build the muscles that had been bruised and torn. When the smith started to teach him how to shape and form metal with heat and hammer, the Gnome quickly proved as skilled here as he was with the knife and wood or chisel and stone.

Many months passed and the Gnome worked for smithy. His skill at repairing and making tools brought many to the smith, because what the Gnome wrought seldom broke, retained its shape and was always a finer tool than what been brought in for repair. The smith was pleased as he grew wealthier.

As the Gnomes renown spread, soldiers soon started to bring their blades to him for repair. What he couldn’t repair he forged anew. His skill with wood lead to him to repair and fashion bows, crossbows, bolts and arrows. Before long even the Dwarves and Elves in the fort were impressed with what the Gnome could do with iron and wood. The soldier taught the Gnome how to use the weapons he was to repair and his skill with sword and bow were soon equal to his skill with hammer and tong.

Now over a year later that broken mass of flash and bone was strong, deft, agile and skilled. He stood straight; he was tall for Gnome, reaching nearly four foot. His neatly trimmed brown bread covered the scars on the face, his pale blue eyes were clear and sharp. The jaunty brown leather hat he had become known for wearing was tilted down some on the right to cover his dented skull. He dressed plainly, the simple shirt, waist coat and breeches fit him well. Perfectly balanced throwing knives he had crafted were well concealed. An unassuming short sword hung from his hip, another amazing example of the craft he had developed as an arms man. He always appeared neat. He was an amiable fellow, always asking questions.

He had come back from a near horrific death. But he also had said how miserable it is not knowing who he was, what he was and where he had come from. He looked for a chance to venture and discover who was Jym Enen.

After packing his few belongings Jym made his rounds to tell his friends he leaving to find his answers. The garrison’s commander told him of a small group of adventures that had taken up a cause as the Leather Coat Avengers. They might be in need of person with Jym’s skills and that they might be able to help find his answers. He told Jym they could be found in the City of Lasch and that there was a patrol heading there today and that he could travel with them.

Arriving in Lasch Jym found it easy to locate the adventurers, people couldn’t stop talking about their achievements. Making his way to the Dragon Claw Inn he found the four seated at what may have been their usual table.

Approaching the table he nodded to the group, “I have been told that I might find the ones known as the Leather Coat Advenger here at the Dragons Claw and you fit their description. The commander of the garrison told me that might you be in need of one with fighting skills support your cause. I am Jym Enen, I would ask to join your group. I am man with no past. I have no memory of my life before the past year. So you would have to take me as I am. I hope that as we travel I might discover more of who I am. But I would pledge to you now that I, Jym Enen, will serve your cause. So if you let sit with I will buy you a round and you ask me all you can and I will tell you all I know.”

Setting his pack on the floor Jym waved to serving girl to fetch a round. As the ale flowed Jym told them the story of his attack and recovery.
