One thing i saw was that sirene has a Fire Elemental. Can it be used to attack the machines? It can turn on Sirene but just having climb the machine might set them on fire.

Does anyone see any creative uses of Ulthok's spells?

does multiple caster doing dispell magic make it stronger or just multiple hits of the same spell?

I would also guess they have a fairly strong spell caster there that created the dome, so that needs to be a target too.

If we can identify the spell that created the dome we can figure how to get rid of it and know the the minimum level of the spell caster.

Use of invisiblity to get in to the machine is also possible for the group.

Subject: Back Post...........

Back Post…………

Valene smiles softly at Ulthok and shows him her undergarments, made of light metal. "But I will keep this for when the armor is not needed if you do not mind."

Ulthok recognized the Elven Chain mail and smiled to himself. That mail would give her more protection than his body suit could. As he handed it over to Valene little Peri fluttered up, “What about me, what about me, don’t you have something for me?” The little dragonet hung her head with a pouty frown. Ulthok had figured as much could happened. There weren’t a lot of magic items available in the city but Ulthok was able to find a small band that could be worn by the little creature.

“Peri… I’d not forget you. “ Reaching into his pack he pulled a small wrapped pouch. Opening the pouch he pulled a Band of Invulnerability.

“This will create a Minor Globe of Invulnerability. It makes an immobile, faintly shimmering magical sphere around you that prevents some spell effects from penetrating ; the area of effect of any such spells does not include the area of the minor globe of invulnerability. This includes innate abilities and effects from devices. However, any type of spell can be cast out of the magical globe, and these pass from the caster of the globe to their subject without affecting the globe. High level spells are not affected by the globe. The globe can be brought down by a successful dispel magic spell. You can leave and return to the globe without penalty. Spell effects are not actually disrupted by the globe unless cast directly through or into it: The caster would still see a mirror image created by a wizard outside the globe. If that wizard then entered the globe, the images would wink out, to reappear when the wizard exited the globe. Likewise, a wizard standing in the area of a light spell would still receive sufficient light for vision, even though that part of the light spell volume in the globe would not be luminous. It will also protect you some from direct weapon attacks. However the catch is if you cast the Minor Globe you have to stay in one spot and it can only be use twenty times.

Placing the small band over her head the ring sized itself to the Dragonet and looked like beautiful Platinum necklace.

Stepping back, the mage pulled the chain that holds the amulet that he wears around his neck. “I need you both to know about this. It has saved my life before but I need others in the party to help for it to work. If I were to be killed in the upcoming challenge my life force will be protected by escaping into this amulet. If my body can be healed my life force will return, but if the amulet is destroyed or more than seven days pass before my body is healed my life force will be lost and I cannot be raised. So don’t despair if I am killed, but work fast and you my save me.”

Subject: Looking Good....

That could be very interesting.

As for the destruction of the machines we should decide who goes after which ones.

I see that we do have a few folks with spells that may help.

Cor: Dispell Magic / Flame Strike
Eclispe: Warp Wood

Rayne: Flame Strike / Warp Wood

Sirene: Oh you got bunches!!!!!

Valene: Warp Wood / Flame Strike

Ulthok: Burning Hands / Fireball / Lighting Bolt / Disintegrate

So maybe Cor should assign machine to groups of two and we then assit others as needed.

Lexson and Lother would be pure defenders of the magic users and party.

Cor, Eclipse and Rayne are the secondary defender / fighters and Peri just creates chaos by casting various spells on the enemy.

To me this needs to be a coordinated attach, at least to start. We know all plans are good until the battle begins.

Well that's some food for thought.

I interviewed for my last job in 2010 but I had a job then and not getting it wouldn't hurt.

Now I really have to sell myself.
I had a recruiter call today about a position locally that I really hope to get an interview. I hit all the wants accept 3D CAD, I can do some AutoCad LT and SCRD Ideas. It's a Project Engineer for a plastic's molding company. I know the company and it would be great to get in there. It also pays more than my last job so I'm really good with that.

Time to roll all 20's!!!!!!!!!

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A
Subject: Welcome To Thunder Dome................

Well now it is very clear we have five machines to distroy.

Just some random thoughts.

1. Is the protective dome two way? Does it have to be dispelled so the machines can fire? That makes them valnerable during the firing sequence.

2. Does the dome only go to ground level so he tunneling under the edge could gain access?

3. Would the dome trip things inside as if fire or explosion would be condenced in the space? Air would be used up and things inside would sufficate if a hugh fire were started.
Also the party would find it difficult to breath, duh.

4. If the giants are killed that temporarily shuts down the machines.

5. Ten party members taking out five machines makes two members per machine, sort of. All five need hit about the same time to at least damage them all.

6. Getting out will be a lot harder than getting in.

Time to build on Cor's plan, we have completed his step one and got there, time to flesh out steps two and three a bit more. Who goes after which of the five and how the plan to destroy it. Who protects the the member trying to destroy the machine. Then how to rally for the escape. Remember most of our plans have never quite worked as we thought but it could go our way if we think on it a bit. Our magic is strong and we have oils and such to burn the machine, assuming that they will burn. Before we had about four magic users to cast destructive spells. We are more to the fighter side now. Think of question to ask Tann, the information we can get the better we attack.

----------------------
MORE..........

In the past when we discussed ideas here in Q&A some good plans have come together. Before we each charge off again it would be good to compare thoughts and check our spells and tool to use here. Good plans can get bad dice rolls so even if we think these are great fate will decide.

We were well perpared to take down one machine but we have five and a bunch of badies. How can we maximize our damage and how can we best escape?

Rocinante Cargo Bay, 8:50 pm ST

The kid tried hard to keep his body from giving away his nervousness. Any other time and Matheson would have eaten him alive, but this time he’d gotten a little respect from a powerful man. He’d take it for what it was worth, but he also knew this wasn’t over.

Scanning the cargo bay it was clear that Lord Hood and Captain Havelock had the situation in hand. Moving among the people they squared things enough so Ash could get to the bridge. Hot footing for the corridor to join the rest of crew, the sound of giggles caught his ear. Smiling sweetly at him as he passed were four attractive young ladies. A smile crossed the kid’s face as he remembered Ernestina May and the three sisters on the ride back to Doc’s house. Pain never hurt so good.

Rocinante Control Bridge, 9:00 pm ST

The gunslinger listen closely as Wyatt and Tess went over to plan. "When we are heading in, Captain, I am going to need to take the lead. John on second chair if Willow can spare him, Wolf and Asher in the engine room with comm open. I can do this but everyone is gonna have to trust me. Dohn ma?

Things didn’t sound good but he had faith in the crew.

Rocinante Control Bridge 1:00 am ST

The crew had waited patiently as Willow and John cared for the monk. Asher watched Tess as she reviewed her pilot station. There seemed to be a lot times she touch the many doodads she wore or fiddled with her goggles.
When John came in and nodded positively Ash knew Sifu was out of serious danger. It was time to man his station in the engine room. Once again he strode down the corridor. Entering the propulsion heart of the Roc Ash saw Wolf busy monitoring and adjusting the engines. The boat had approached the moon LV-425 and Tess was starting the maneuvers she hoped would work to land without greater damage or harm.

Rocinante Engine Room 1:05 am ST

When the Roc finally broke atmo things really start to hop. Temperatures were rising to near critical in all systems. Tess called out to Wolf as the Roc twisted and rolled….. Wolf kept the engines responding. Ash handled the other gages and systems to free Wolf to play the control like a fine musical instrument. The kid was nervous but with Wolf’s direction and the knowledge he’d learned from Kora they worked together to keep the systems from failing. Sweat rolled from both the men as they moved intently about the room.

The altimeter let them know they were approaching the ground. The devise signal out zero as the Roc bounced on the sand strip; even prepared the two men were jostled roughly. Quickly a second thud followed. Systems screamed as Tess lower the landing gear and pulsed the engines to bring the boat to stop.

When the shaking had stopped the two men in the engine room kept moving. Even with the cheers coming from the cargo bay Asher followed Wolf’s lead through the systems checks, shutdown sequences and power downs… they may be on the ground but they still needed to stabilize.

Subject: Trap.......

The party had gathered at the appointed time and location. Cor set the marching order and as in the past Ulthok took the lead. The group pasted through the wall and into the no man’s land. The ground was littered with rocks and debris from the barrage of the enemy. The mage seldom looked back to see if the party were following in his footsteps. Moving cautiously the team encountered a patrol of Orcs lead by one those floating eyes. They all dropped to blend with the debris. After the patrol passed Ulthok signaled the team forward. The “click” from behind drove through the mage like an arrow, someone had not been following in the footsteps. Looking back he saw the new party member Eclipse standing stone still. “Peri, the new one has tripped a trap, I need to go see if it can be disarmed.” As he turned he saw a small Kobald heading toward the HalfElf.

“Ohno, did he see her change?” With that Ulthok willed spirit into his ring and vanished. Scrambling over the rock and stones to avoid any more trips the thief made his way back to the trapped man with the knocked bow. From a few feet away in his hiding place, he whispered out, “That’s Valene coming …stay still.”

There wasn’t room for both of halflings to search the ground around Eclipse so as Valene checked the trap, Ulthok searched for more, no need going from the frying pan into the fire by stepping in another.

The Halfling cleric showed her nimble skills as she quickly scanned the trap, pulling out her newly acquired tools she deftly attempted to disarm the trap under the Rangers foot. Waiting to see if the trap was disabled Ulthok looked back toward rest of party, turning his head there perched on where his shoulder would be was a shiny tiny dragon. “Peri…we need to work on this vanishing thing.”

Did Eclipse pay attention and notice the Valene change to look like a Kobald? With bow knocked it could be an issue for the cleric.

I'm perparing Ulthok's action and he is concerned Valene could take an arrow as she trys to approach.

----------------------------
BTW didn't we give Lothor that rabbits foot to add to his luck? He didn't like magic items so it seemed inoccent enough for him to use?

It was one of the magic items from the cave.

I think that's when and where Valene got the +3 mail.

I figured we'd be checking our sensors and stuff before we open the doors. I think we know that this is a place in develpoment so there could be issues. If we found the sand landing strip then it should stand to reason that there is some kind of stuff near by. You wouldn't make a landing strip without some kind of support. If was for emergancy landings then shouldn't there be emergancy support stuff?

Ulthok has offere Valene one of his +2 body suits to add to her armor rating.

It's up to Misckeif now if she'd like a little more protection.

I bet Valene will look better in the brown leotard body suit than Ulthok looks in his black one.

Subject: It Suits Her........

Valene had waited for Ulthok to finish study and joined him to prepare for up coming ….adventure. When Ulthok finishes what he is doing, she takes his hand and kisses him gently. "So are we ready, dear one? I believe this should prove...a bit of a surprise to the enemy...”

They walked together mostly in silence back to the room to pack. Peri and could not miss that the usually jovial Halfling was quiet and dour. To the mage the dangers of the past were a risk each chose to face and he knew each could die, but the other were just party members. The loss of his brother had pierced the thick hide the Halfling had developed to keep emotion from touching too close. He now had formed a tender bond with the mischievous Halfling female and the endearing Faerie Dragon. The loss of either of these was something he did want to think about. He hoped it would not cause him to error in his duties to the team.

As Ulthok sorted his items to determine what leave to lighten his he pull the brown protective body suit from the pack. He always wore one under his clothes and Valene had made fun of black long underware he wore even in the heat of summer.

“Val……. These are not just warm underware. These are protective body armor that is light and strong. It is what a thief….er…procurement master needs to move smoothly and quietly while still being protect as well as many fighters. This coming ….job…will be filled with danger from vicious weapons. This should fit you.. would you wear it? I can’t do much more to protect you.”

The mage held the body suit out to Valene. “It may hold you when I can’t.”

----------------------
O.O.C. I wrote the above because I missed Val had +3 Elven Chain Mail, that gives her AC-3. I guess I was thinking more of the story and skimmed the charactor sheets too quickly. So we either ignor what I wrote or pretend Val answers by showing Ulthok the mail and saying something about she does have her own protection.

Would be willing to let Valene use one of Ulthok's +2 Body Suits if she needs a little armor. She can have the brown suit, Ulthok will wear the black and carry the tan in the haversack.

I'm planning on having Ulthok read the Scroll of Tattoo.

Subject: At Last.............

The team was finally called to the great hall. There they joined other groups and were finally told of the assignment.

“These are your targets the five frontal enemy ballista now firing upon the fortress walls and city itself. Because of the ineffectiveness of counter-battery fire and magic to destroy them it has been decided to do it the old fashioned way by infiltration and destruction.”

Ulthok listened and grimly pondered the words of the General. At least their journey to disaster would not be as long as the last. Their targets were in sight of the wall along with a sea of things ready and willing to kill them and enjoy every bloody blow.

“Ok you have your targets, you have your personal, go over them and memorize the routes to and from your targets and be at your egress points by 0030 hours where you will be met by a wizard. At 0100 hours the mission will be a go and before you move out the wizard will cast a spell of Non-Detection on all in the group.…………………..Good luck and the blessing of the Gods”

Quietly the mage followed Cor as they left the great hall. Peri looked quizzically at the Halfling as he seemed to pace slowly and stare at each and every detail of the hall. The mage bent to touch the floor ad felt the aura of the room. “What are you doing… we need to catch up with the others.” The little dragon chirped in his ear. “Peri… I need to know this room in every detail in case we must make a sudden escape and teleport back here to report. If I miss something we could end up in the floor instead of on the floor.” Ulthok saw Sirene doing much the same as he. “See our friend with the cat is doing the same, she may save others.”

Leaving the hall three more members join the group, the Dwarf from road, a Sorin Malakir and a Lexson Heart.
When they were all gather Cor addressed them.

"Seems we have a mission finally. A wee little thing of sneaking in and knocking out teh seige engines. A course those be right smack in the middle of the enemy army. We will need ta move quick, specially on the way back. I'll nay tell ya how ta pack but tis nay a long trip but a quick raid. Speed is important. Think over yer spells and get with each other ta make sure we have a good assortment. ye all know what is expected so no flowery speach. Just try not ta die, unless ya really want ta test my favor status with Odin………………As for a plan, well now Ithink I'll skip it this time and just go with: destroy the ballista and any evil creatures near it and then hightail it out. Any questions?"

There were no questions, so Ulthok headed back to his room to pack. Cor had said this should be just a quick raid, but things never seemed to go that straight forward. They were popping into the middle of evil and anything could happen. Peri watched as the mage reviewed his weapons, his tools and supplies. “We may not come back, but great Googlie Mooglie we are going to do this big!”

As for stratigy, if we can get Ulthok within 5 yards of the ballista he can cast disintagrate to take it apart. Other than that we will need to be creative with fire and such. Cold might ruin the ropes and strapes. Heat metal could melt bolts and nails to weaken it. Warp wood might jam it or break the swing arm. Any way to foul the workings would help. We'll need to see if there is any magic protections too. So dispell magic may be helpful.

BTW did you guys remember that there are 5 ballistas in each area? So are we to take out one ballista or 5?

As if timed with the finish of the tent’s setup half of enemy towers moved forward in five groups, five rock throwing towers in each group.

Or am I just reading too much into this?

I guess I've always figured Ulthok had a "Heward's Handy Haversack" so he could carry so much stuff, if not he bought one during his shopping trips to carry his goodies.
