Subject: Nice Trinket.....

SOME TIME LATER………….
The mage knew he could sweeten to prospect if he could get the Dragonet a treat. It was dinner time so there would be fresh baked goods in the kitchen. Descending the stair Ulthok was hailed by the charming Cleric that had added a cherished touch of joy to hard times that were oppressing the times. Ulthok joined Valene in the dining room where she sat admiring a silver bracelet. Val didn’t hide her intensions and with a mischievous smile and slight hug she asked, "Can you identify this for me, please? I know it is magical, but not what it is." Her giggle was hard to resist.

Ulthok examined the trinket and noted the animal inscribed on its interior. He had seen similar but these are always different in possible magic.

“Ah, for you I’ll try, but we must prepare first. I must prepare both the spell and this item must be prepared or we may never know what may do. I do not have the spell ready so I must study, while I do this you go and collect the materials we will need. It will then take time to cast and discern. “

(O.O.C. Assuming Val agrees Valene can fill some dialog.)

“We can do this in your room, it should be more attuned to you and hopefully that will help. I’ll stop by my room to get my book and meet at your room and we’ll list the materials.” Ulthok rose and spotted a fresh baked apple pie on the sideboard. It wasn’t much of challenge to lift it as he left the room.

(O.O.C. Val may see him snitch by pie a wonder a bit what’s up.)

BACK AT HIS ROOM…..

Ulthok slipped into his room with the still warm, steamy apple pie. Placing the pie on the dresser, “I have brought a token to show I mean what say. I will leave this for you; I will be gone for a while to attempt a new spell.” Ulthok grabbed up his pack, “Enjoy, I hope times will allow me to provide for you if you will stay.”

Closing the door the Halfling proceeded to the clerics room.
The two reviewed the spell and Valene left to shop. Ulthok prepared the bracelet and then began his study.

SOME TIME LATER………

Valene waited quietly as Ulthok went through motions and cast the spell perhaps reveal the secrets of the bracelet.

Ash nodded to Wyatt as the Captain and the others headed to the Double D. The three disappeared inside and the kid turned to the saloon across the street.

The kid didn’t draw many looks as he entered the build and walked up to the bar, he'd become a common sight by now.

Wade stood behind bar in his full white apron drying glasses. Seeing Asher approach to bar the mustached bar keeper drawled, “The usual?”

Asher smiled back saying, “Naw, I just need to speak to Nell.”
Wade tilted his head to the right,“She’s by the stairs.”

Ash glanced over and saw the attractive mature woman. Poised provocatively in a tight uplifting low cut gown she stood surveying the sparse patronage. A warm knowing smile blossomed as she recognized Asher. “ Asher, my sweet, you come to mama tonight?”

The kid smiled as he took in the tempting vision, “Well for now I just want to spend so time on the roof...it’s got a good view of the street and the stars.”

Nell eye him for a moment, "Me and my girls can give you a good view.”

Ash laugh,“No doubt, but for now I just need some time up there.”

“Well, you’ll have to come down sometime..go ahead you earned a little free time…alone.” Nell stepped back to let Asher by, she ran her hand softly along his thigh as he passed.

The kid smiled and ascended the stair. Passing the first floor Amber stood in her door wearing a tightly laced red and black skimpy corset. Bending to let the girls entice, she winked.

“Ah.. later.. maybe…” Ash mumbled as he turn to start the second set of stair.

Dashing up the last few steps he hurry down the hall to the backdoor that lead to the ladder to the roof.

Passing Honey’s room, she stood there in a short red silk open robe. Asher nearly stumbled as she wiggled her finger at him.

“ Miss Honey”..Ash nodded to her then passed out the rear door to grab the ladder to the roof.

The kid made his way across the flat open area to the front of the building. There he kept vigilance on the street and building across the street.

SOME TIME LATER……….

The street had been quiet and he had seen a couple of shooting stars across the moonless night sky. The door to the Double D opened and Wyatt, Tess and Willow emerged. The kid could hear a few other men say their “GoodNights” to his crewmates.

In the planned signal Wyatt gave Asher a quick tip of the hat to let him know all was clear. The trio then headed down the street. Ash knew they didn’t need to wait for him.

Climbing back down the ladder the gunslinger entered the second hall,... Honey and Amber were waiting. The girls sallied up on either side of the young man and diverted him into Honey’s room……..….Rip, Tear, Fling……

SOME TIME LATER………..

Synching his rig in place Ash nodded to the ladies as they lay smiling in near exhaustion. Asher took a deep breath and smiled as he left the room and desended the stair to the next floor. Reaching the stair that lead down to saloon Nell stepped out into the hall.

“Leaving so soon?” She took Asher by the hand and led him into her room…......Unhook…...Unfasten…. Oh my…….

SOME TIME LATER……

Asher s l o w l y descended the last set of stairs. Wade looked up, “Ok, now the usual?”

The kid smiled, “Sure.”

Wade pulled a chilled pitcher and poured a tall glass of milk. Sliding the glass to the young gunslinger, ”Need to keep up your strength.”

As the Creature sat silently Ulthok realized that in his excitement he had failed to introduce himself. Controlling his bouncing he continued, “ May I introduce myself? I am ULTHOK RYDENHAM , humble purveyor of Magic and Master… umm….Procurer.

I ask you to join me as a companion and member of our party. If you do, I would ask that treat our members as fairly as they treat you. For those that don’t…, well…. It never hurts to learn respect.” Ulthok has heard how these little creatures can play tricks on those around them.

Taking a more serious tone for it would not be right to mislead such a creature, “I would be remiss if I did not tell you that our journey would place us both in the great dangers. We go right to the heart of the evil that is covering your and my lands. Your aid would be a great boon for our side and for that you would receive your do. “

The small mage had been deep in thought, pondering all the text he had read and all conversations of the day. So when had entered his room and closed the door he slightly startled by the elfish word that came from the windowsill.

“So you’re the one they want me to be familiar to, hmmmm, what’s it in for me?”

Ulthok stopped in his tracks, “Great Googly Moogly”, he breathed as a small Blue-green Faerie Dragon sat there eyeing him. It was all clear to him now what had been happening to him; the dreams were this mystical creature judging him to see if he were worthy enough to be considered a companion.

As a Mage, Ulthok had learned about these amazing little tricksters. He knew that they are not any ordinary Familiar, they require attention, respect and pampering, but they are the possibly the most cherished of the Familiar. They are intelligent, clever and can cast wizard and priest spells. The coloring shown that it was nearly as strong in magic as Ulthok.

Removing his hood Ulthok bounded up and down with excitement and in his most polite elfish tongue, “You honor me by even appearing at my sill. I had sought a helper to aid this party on our quest to help save these lands. ……..A venerable companion has presented itself. ……If you should stay and join me to help this quest succeed I will pledge my protection as best I can provide it. I will provide care; I’ve been known to make a very tasty apple tart. “

The Halfling was pleased and relieved, even if then creature didn’t stay, the mystery was solved.

Asher felt a bit better when he heard that voice once more come across the comm., “Nice work, boys. This pretty lady’s got some right’n fancy moves. Make’s a girl feel good knowin’ there’s a couple of good men workin’ behind the scenes. Remind me to buy ya’ll a drink once we git back to port.”

When the engine room was secure and Asher made his way to the galley to help Trish make the evening meal. The two extra place settings confirmed the crew had expanded.

Willow ushered the two new members in and introduced the new pilot Tess Zhou and the man he’d met earlier as John Ryan. Ash watch carefully as Willow introduced Trish, he wasn’t about the stand for any disrespect. Ma smiled at him to let him know things were fine.

The dinner conversation was pleasant as they all got to know each other more. Seems that John was the one that got the first missiles off their tail with his fancy tech work before his station lost power. Ash nearly choked when he heard how close they came to being ended by his slip up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rocinante, Common room, The Evening after the auditions

The crew gathered around the cortex as the news of the evening told of the “Barbeque accident.” It was clear they had gotten away unseen . As the news caster droned on Ash could hardly keep from rolling on the floor with laughter as a confrontation between the local Sheriff and the Alliance Federal Marshall was caught in the background. That local sure seemed to get the best of the Feds.

Eisley Moss Spaceport, the next day, late afternoon

The next day Ash was helping Trish get the trash ready when there was a banging on the cargo bay door. Wyatt and Willow let the local Sheriff and some other men into the cargo bay. The kid got bit worried that maybe they hadn’t got away clean. But as he listened it became clear the Sheriff wasn’t there to arrest them and before long the Sheriff was offering them work.

“Would you be looking for hire?” It ain’t a big job, the five of us to Higgin’s moon and then twice as many coming back with us. We can stomach hammocks if you must.”

Ash was amazed as he heard the story of what a …… Bey was. When he heard Bey sold the farmers families off as slaves it brought the memories of how Adelei Niska and Waylend Gayner had tried to steal his family’s farm. A run to Higgin’s Moon would be one of those “Good” jobs that don’t come around too often.

Higgin’s Moon, a few days later

Ash and Wolf watch from the catwalk as the Sheriff presented his papers to get the farmers family released. Ash got real tired of listening to the lawyer the magistrate had send prattle on about due process and compensations and that kinda legal mumbo-jumbo. The kid had heard the same trash years ago.

Ash looked to Wolf and said, “My guns need cleaned……think I’ll bring um down there where I got plenty of room for all of them.” Wolf seemed to agree. Before long the two toted pistols, rifles and shotgun down to within just a few feet of the lawyer. For next half hour the two cleaned ,clicked, spun and pumped a small armory of weapons as they glared at the lawyer. Didn’t take long for that lawyer to get real reasonable.

As the lawyer left the Sheriff spoke to Wyatt, “Good men you got there. Don’t suppose you’d part with either of them? I could use a deputy.” Asher’s head snapped up, “Sorry Sir, been there,.. done that.. got the holes in my back to prove it.” The gunslinger gathered his toy and took them back his quarters.

It wasn’t much later that the whole crew stood on the gangway of the Rocinante and watched as the men are reunited with their families again, wives, daughters and sons. It is a very touching moment and the Sheriff seems right pleased as well.

Things got real stable for a while, the farmers and folk seemed to have plenty of small jobs to keep the Roc busy. Ash got into a daily routine of practice and meditation with Willow before breakfast. Wolf and John kept him busy the rest of the day. John had him help him as the man learned the boats systems and Wolf kept him going over the wiring or just doing general maintenance to keep the Roc in top shape.

After about two months Wyatt got a message that he Willow and Tess should meet the Sheriff and few farmers at a local place known as the double D. The kid had been around town enough to hear that the Dew Drop Inn was more or less a private establishment. The general public and visitors were guided to other saloons. Ash had found a nice one just across the street. Had some right friendly ladies working there too.

When Asher showed up in his usual rigs Wyatt told him that the invite was just for three of them,” Ain’t no harm in going for a walk with my friends, beside there is some mighty good star watching from the roof of Nell’s across the street.” The kid knew his job and even if this seemed a friendly get together he’d be there for them.

Are you good with joining Ash and Willow in their daily classes?

Over 15 days even a simple one session every day would add to both Ash and Willow's skill base. Easy enough for Fu Sheng to judge what would be good for them. He might have a good laugh at the recorded lessons and then start to add the little improvements to stance, move and such.

Subject: Odd Feeling........

After the troubled times the party had faced in their travels it was a relief to travel with Cor through his lands and enjoy the kindness of his people. To spend nights in friendly homes and warm beds was delight. But two nights into their trip the dream came again. The failed spell seemed to have a lingering effect or result. The dreams felt odd; there wasn’t fear of danger but a pull to those eyes.

The next night was uneventful and on the four day they came to Citadel . To their amazement they were greeted as expected guests. They are summoned to appear before the Queens of the surrounding lands. The nobility treated them great fare sharing news and honoring them for their quest. A grand meal followed the audience with the Queens.

After the meal the party was lead to their rooms to stow their gear. The mage wanted to know more about what may cause his dreams. Ulthok told the others that he want to visit the local magic shops to purchase more of items he would need to work the new spell he had acquired. In truth he wanted to find out more about the “Find Familiar” spell and what may be the effects of a failed spell. The Halfling wandered the streets of Citadel. He was guided to libraries where texts and paper were stored. He visited shops where he talked to owner on spell lore and what could happen if the wrong material were used. Although none of the shop owners told him what would happen he noted that they seemed smile and some even chuckled when he mentioned the dreams.

Still disstatified Ulthok made his way back to his quarters, but all the time he felt he was being watched.

Well I see Ash as the wrench monkey in the engine room. He has a talent to take things apart and put them back together but he's not an engineer to figure out modifications. He would enjoys just working wih John and Wolf to keep busy and learn more.

I can see that he'd hang on John stories about parachuting and wing suits. That is just sort of thing Asher would rush into.

My posts will have Ash spending time helping Wolf and John, you guys just sort use that to have him around. If want him crawling through the boat to string cables, tearing down stuff so new parts can be put on, then go with it.

I was also have him down more with Willow and now it could go deeper with Eol's character helping to advance the training. We have a Master now to lead our workouts.

The study and the nightmare had drained the mage and sweet sleep enveloped Ulthok. As the night sweat cooled a tender touch replace the fearful vision. Soft lips and warm small fingers pleasantly drew the mage from his slumber. As he lay there the now familiar scent of the beautiful female Halfling filled his head as he felt her nails slide down his chest. Valene giggled softly as her moist soft lips brushed along the strong jaw line and down Ulthok’s neck. The mage’s breathing became deeper and faster as caressing fingers found and stimulated the Halfling to passion. The remainder of the night was filled with laugher and giggles as the she cleric had her way with the mage showing him a magic of her own.

As the dawn crept in Valene left the mage to his thoughts. Ulthok once again let sleep roll over him. A smile firmly imbedded on his face.

A rooster's crow heralded the sun as a new day presented itself to the party. Ulthok rose and packed then joined the others for a morning meal. The Halfling ordered stacks of steaming buckwheat cakes smothered in butter and maple syrup, sausages, fruit and cold buttermilk. The other seemed to wonder where all that food was going and were that appetite came from. Valene smiled as she watched the mage devour the breakfast.

Wolf looked up, "Go to it then. You need to reset the circuit as soon as you are done. Back panel, flip the switch with the orange showing. It a safety precaution, so it don't fry you inside out." He could not do two things at once and he knew that Asher needed to fix the mistake in save face in his own mind.

Asher finished putting the wiring back into place and rigged the jumper cables. He ran over the circuit box and opened it up. Sure enough, there was the orange next to the circuit breakers, except there were four. He called out to Wolf but the big man was engrossed in his own work so Asher reached up and flipped them all.

As the kid flipped the switches he hears the pilot voice came over the com again.

“Alright boys, it’s lookin’ like we’re gittin’ to try that Immelmann after all. I’m following her up with split-s, so make sure to watch our hydraulics and stabilizers so we ain’t going up in a purty show of fire and shinies.”

Asher moved to shadow Wolf, he figured he could learn more by watching the man in action. The kid was a more than a fair mechanic, he could tear a mule apart and assemble it again in the dark, but that was easy compared to knowing what fix when things went bad; that sort of thing took time and experience. Asher had felt the meaning behind Wolf’s words and knew the man hadn’t totally lost trust in him. Ash would now prove the second chance would be well used.

The ship’s engineer moved rapidly to adjust the systems to support what the pilot had asked. The kid followed Wolf’s actions as he set and readjusted the hydraulics and stabilizers . When the ship responded with amazing agility to the pilots touch Asher smiled to himself. “That is so cool.”

Ulthok had left the main room early after spending some good time challenging their leader in a few duels of dice. The mage and cleric had long enjoyed the game, to them it was more the bragging rights instead of the wager.

Taking his leave Ulthok gathered his things and returned to his room. Making himself comfortable the mage open his Tome of Magic and let his mind relax so that he set to memory a set of spells that seemed to draw him and could prove useful to the party.

The evening slowed and the Halfling appeared to sleep or perhaps in a light trance. It was a familiar ritual. In time the study and rest took its course and the mage indeed pasted into restful sleep. But that sleep did not stay restful. Dark images crept into his mind.

Ulthok's room took on a slight eerie glow that centered around the mage as he slept. Glimpses of scaly flesh entered his dream. Dark eyee peering from a reptilian face pulled at the mage. Through the depths of his sleep he mumbled, "No.... can't be....No....Green...Scales...No.....What do you want?.."

The glow fades and the mage continues to slumber.
