“What about looking for Sam we are gonna do that too right? Don’t tell me we are just gonna leave him alone in the black no matter what he wrote. The man’s family Wyatt”, Wolf pleaded as the crew receive their assignments.

Everyone in the room could tell Wolf was dead serious as this was the first time he had called Wyatt by his first name and not by captain. Wolf waited for a reply hoping it would be the right one...............

Ash walked over the mechanic, placing a hand on his arm he quietly said, “Come on….. Wyatt’s given us our job. You know Sam and look’n for him would be harder than …. Uh.. well it would be hard. He don’t want found.“

The kid turn walk to Ma to get supply list.

It's been a long week. Worked to 8 (12 hour days)every night getting ready for a site audit we had today. Also getting ready to go to TS16949 automotive registration so really stressed preparing for that too and now I have go to another plant to review a job that will be transfered to our plant.

Any ideas on getting past the human shields? Any spells that could make the people just collaspe to that ground so we get a clear shot?

How about a teleport to a flanking position?
Maybe come from behind?
Force wall between the woman and the beholder?
Call up a monster to attack the beholder?
Call a shadow to drain it's enery?
Call up a giant, cast enlarge on it so it's so big it can step on the beholder and smash it like a bug?

??????????????????????

Yeah, Ash does a bit of stuff that needs to be well stored (hid), but I see them as the stuff we'd pull out if we had to do a major resue mission. I mean, if Miss Willow or Trish were ever capture and held ransom, well heaven help who ever took them!

The only "New" gun I wanted was a derringer.

So much for "Big Guns", lol.

Are we on delayed posts for the Olympics or are we just missing folks?

I was hoping to hear from Kyle in the Q&A so we can know where to appear.

I would need to post first so the Bri, Gina and Tann can post to the gathering, teleporting and appearing. The will need to fire as soon as we appear.

----------------------
I would think keeper would like to coordinate the fighters attack here in Q&A and then in the post. Unless they are going to rush the Beholder as soon as they appear.

Well if Ash gets 300 credits for one share then he has to spend 206 to just replace the guns and ammo that Sam barrowed.
1 x PK12 Peacekeeper Pistols (60c)
8 x Magazines of Ammo (96 bullets/ 4c)
5 x Boxes of Ammo (240 bullets/ 10c)

1 x Colt .22 ST Pistol (20c)
3 x Magazines of Ammo (24 bullets/ 1c)
1 x Box of Ammo (48 bullets/ 2c)

1 x Justice Arms JC39 Assault Rifle & Shotgun (75c)
3 x Magazines of Rifle Ammo (150 bullets/ 6c)
3 x Cases of Rifle Ammo (300 bullets/ 12c)

Then 12c for a box of flashbangs and 12c for a box of smoke
bombs he took too.

1 x Boxes of Flashbang Grenades (12 grenades/ 12c)
1 x Boxes of Smoke Grenades (12 grenades/ 12c)

Now take 45 for mesh vest he got 25 left to go crazy with. WOWZIE!

So bank the 25, I'll wait for anything else. Maybe the next payday will go better.

Ok, I've tried to help set things up. If the rest seem to agree then I can post Ulthok's teleport. He and Weaver will recon to the top of the hill to agree on the locations to appear. They will then return and gather the members they are taking in to the fry.

We want to sure that the warriors appear only after the arrows hit their target so they don't get hit by them by mistake.

Subject: Seeing Eye To Eye.......

The tarts had come out even better than Ulthok hoped. It was a good distraction and something the party would enjoy. When the meal was finished the Halfling wrap the remaining tarts in some parchment paper he’d found among the cooking supplies, that would keep the tarts for meals and snacks later. As he was placing them in his pouch of holding Cor saddled up and in a quiet concerned voice said, "Glad ye are all right lad and the apples are a nice touch. But would ye mind explaining why you said dragon just before passing out?"

Ulthok felt a tinge of panic as he looked to the Dwarven leader. Keeping his expression nutral in his well practiced manner he replied, “ Did I say dragon? Oh my, that must have seemed strange. I do admit that the spell didn’t go as it should and I was a bit confused as blurred visions pasted through that odd glow, but I wouldn’t worry about any green dragons, we left them back at the bridge.” Ulthok smiled at Cor walked away to where he keep his gear.

--------------------------------
The day next had gone easily, there didn’t seem to any more suspicions from the party. But the calm was broken as after moving on from the midday meal sounds of a child’s cry and a mother’s scream came over the next rise. Cor took charge to stop the Paladins from charging recklessly into whatever was beyoung the hill. Sending scouts, they returned with a tale to terror as a small wagon caravan had been assaulted by Orcs and a Beholder.

Cor formulated a plan."Beholder huh? Those are tricky beasties. Those eyes pack a nasty punch. Ah course if ye can get right in front of them their own anti-magic ability keeps them from using their eyes to attack, but only right in front. Magic is of no use against them so our mages can concentrate on the orcs, especially the big fellow. If we can kill it and the beholder the rest may scatter… Guess a frontal charge is in order backed by range weapons. If the rangers will flank the group maybe their first volley will cause enough of a distraction for the rest of us to close. Keep single file going in so it can only target one of us. Anyone care to lead the charge?".

But the Mage Sirene not wanting to wait struck out on her own. “Dwarven magic may be ‘of no use’, but fortunately I’m not a Dwarf….If you need me I’ll be flying above the fray.” With that she vanished to go on her way.

Groaning Cor muttered, "Still we cannot work as a team; t'will be the death of us all yet…..Anyone else want to take it upon themselves to save the day be my guest. Just let me know now so we don't waste any more time making plans that no one will follow."

In spite of the dire circumstances Ulthok couldn't help but chuckle, “Cor, you may be a great trainer of Paladins, but you still have much to learn about women… Sirene should be fine although it would have been nice to know her plan…."
Your plan seems solid butThen more seriuosly,"We are too far away for an effective charge, they’d be able to from a strong defense. We need to surprise them… catch them unaware. Purhap if we popped in as we did in Gygax then they’d be as startled as the Eagle Flyer was. I could teleport in with the archers first to say ..20 yard or so from the beast. Althena, Rayne and Valene ready and fire as we appear. Weaver could then bring you and other fighter in to about 5 yards away and you charge the thing after the arrows and bolt have weakened it. The Orcs would be surprised and not ready to attack. Weaver and I would prepare to cover you as best can after they recover… What’s you say my friend?”

Valene piped in, “Oh, and I’ll be there incognito.” a tug of her purple feathered hat, she altered her appearance to that of an Orc. A dashingly good looking Orc, with a leather eye-patch, a wooden peg-leg, and a squawking parrot on her shoulder, but an Orc all the same.“Arr, me hearties!”

Ulthok could see how their new party member handle her fear and made him smile. “Just be sure that Sirene doesn’t mistake you for a flashy target now in so close to the party.”

Ulthok waited to hear any refinements to his idea and prepare to cast his spell.

Well Valene will need to sneaky around on up coming rounds.
The weight limits on the teleport makes it difficult. Besides we need her crossbow in the attack to weaken the beholder. Ulthok would like to flank and sneak attack with a backstab too, but.......

Now if Valene were invisible...... No she can't have Ulthok's ring!

Maybe Ulthok can make her one if she stays around.

How close to we want to arrive?

Do we want to stagger the attack, have Ulthok's group appear first and fire and then Weaver's group pop in face to face for hack and slash! Like a three count so they don't hit by arrows or Lightening bolts.

Ok, we need the other to chime in if the like these ideas and figure how close and any other ideas.

I would think one of the fighters might want to take out the Orc leader, but that may put them in damger of the other Beholder eyes.

I'm sure Tann wants a post by Tuesday night.

If Valene tries to look like an Orc, in the heat of battle she could be mistaken by her alies as a real one.

I still like the use of entangle but be sure our folks don't run into that area. We don't have "Free Movement" rings or amulets.

In one of my table top games we have used entangle very successfully. Multiple casters spreading a large area to entrap foes and then archers just pick'em off as they are stuck.

Now we have to watch out the "Charm" spell in the main eye. Hopefully a couple of arrows or bolts in the eye will disrupt it's spell casting.

I would think that the anti-magic just work against spells and not + damage arrows and bolts. They do their damage AFTER they hit so they would be past the anti-magic area.

I would guess that area would take away the magic bunus to hit of the weapon. So we need to aim very well.

Subject: Tele...2

We can do it! Weaver can take 700 pound and Ulthok 550.

So I'll recheck how to best distibute that.

Ok Ulthok, Valene, Althena and Rayne is 399 pound.

Weaver, Cor, Lothor and Ayreon is 612.

So if we teleport that's the grouping.

The rest can appear and attack, but Weaver and Ulthok will have wait a round to attack, the spell is their action.

So if we do that, Althena and Vaalene attack with crossbow and Rayne with her bow.

Valene has a +1 crossbow of speed with +2 bolts. How many bolts and attacks per round, For 1d4+4 each.

Althena has a +1 crossbow that fire 2 bolts per round and can use +2 quills for 1d4+2 each.

Raynes bow is +3 but anti-magic should only change the energy arrow back to an arrow that would still do 1d6+1.

Then the fighter can charge if they like.

Weaver and Ulthok coordinate location so Weaver appears a couple yards behind Ulthok.

Well, I think Ulthok can take Cor and one of the big guys and Rayne, Weave can take the other fighter and Althena. We can only move so much weight, but I think that is pretty close.

If Rayne can get in range the Entangle is good to trap the Orcs, Sirene has that too. So that could hold them during the battle with the Beholder.

Althena's crossbow and Rayne's bow would be good putting damage into the beholder if the can get in range.

I still think that 1300 yards is still pretty far to hear the scream of the mother.

We'll just do our best.

Teleport was and is still an option but it couldn't get the whole party close. (Both Weaver and Ulthok have teleport)

One issue for the party will be that we don't know where Sirene went so our actions could cause problems.

So any other suggestions on closing to melee range?

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A
Subject: By the numbers.....

Ok, so now I see the wolf things are most likely Wargs that the Orcs were riding. Still an issue but they would attack with less intelligence.

Here's what I read:

5 wagons (most likely in a line along the road)
20 Women on wagon (would make about 4 each)
25 children on wogaons (at least one is ground near to Ocr boss)

35 Orcs surrounding the wagons
35 wargs a little to the east eating the horses.
1 Beholder some where along the five wagons.

So an attack on the Beholder, that seems to have charmed the Orc, and Orc boss is a good prime attack. It should draw the Orcs attention away from the women and children.

We have the high ground for the attack and need to use it to our advantage as best we can. It say the Beholder floated into view, where did it come from if it was out view at first? Is there tree cover along the sides of the raod and how far and how thick?

What is the distance from the party to the wagons?

If we are traveling Southeast then the wargs would be to the left of the wagons (east). Is the beholder on the same side? Again, what the cover to each side of the road?

We may be able to use some of it as cover for flanking.

I'm not sure but could we create a barrier between the women and the Orcs, the Orcs and the wargs or would the Anti-magic ray remove a "Wall of" spell?

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A
Subject: Beholder....

For those that don't have a Monsterous Manual.

Combat: The beholder has different Armor Classes for different parts of their body. When attacking a beholder, determine the location of the attack before striking (as the various Armor Classes may make a strike in one area, and a miss in another):

Roll Location AC
01-75 Body 0
76-85 Central Eye 7
86-95 Eyestalk 2
96-00 One smaller eye 7

Each of the beholder's eyes, including the central one has a different function. The standard smaller eyes of a beholder are as follows:
1. Charm person (as spell)
2. Charm monster (as spell)
3. Sleep (as spell, but only one target)
4. Telekinesis (250 pound weight)
5. Flesh to stone (as spell, 30-yard range)
6. Disintegrate (20-yard range)
7. Fear (as wand)
8. Slow (as spell, but only a single target)
9. Cause serious wounds (50-yard range)
10. Death ray (as a death spell, with a single target, 40-yard range)

The central eye produces an anti-magic ray with a 140-yard range, which covers a 90 degree arc before the creature. No magic (including the effects of the other eyes) will function within that area. Spells cast in or passing through that zone cease to function.
A beholder may activate the magical powers of its eyes' at will. Generally, a beholder can use 1d4 smaller eyes if attackers are within a 90 degree angle in front, 1d6 if attacked from within a 180 degree angle, 1d8 if attacked from a 270 degree arc, and all 10 eyes if attacked from all sides. The central eye can be used only against attacks from the front. If attacked from above, the beholder can use all of the smaller eyes.

The beholder can withstand the loss of its eyestalks, each eyestalk/smaller eye having 5-12 hit points. This loss of hit points is over and above any damage done to the central body. The body can withstand two thirds of the listed hit points in damage before the creature perishes. The remaining third of the listed hit points are located in the central eye, and destroying it will eliminate the anti-magic ray. A beholder with 45 hit points will have a body that will take 30 points of damage, a central eye that will take 15 points, while one with 75 hit points will have a body that will withstand 50 points of damage, and a central eye that takes 25 hit points to destroy. Both beholders would have smaller eyestalks/eyes that take 5-12 (1d8+4) points of damage to destroy, but such damage would not affect the body or central eye. Slaying the body will kill the beholder and render the eyes powerless. Destroyed eyestalks (but not the central eye) can regenerate at a rate of one lost member per week.

Let's keep talking, this isn't an easy attack.

Well that was part of my thought for Sirene to attack the riders. Ulthok has chain lightening ready too, but he also is an archer.

I thought hit the beholder with melee (arrows) and the others with magic in the first round. That should reduce the number of badies. I felt Ulthok could use his chain Lightening in the next round if there are other badies that charge.

If we can hit the Beholder with enough arrows that could reduce it's HP to make it easier for fighter to close and attack. Perhap casting invisible on the warriors would get hem in closer without detection.

Keeper has posted the basic attack plan, now how do we want to carry it out? Do we want all archers to target the beholder to take it down first? We have to be careful how close we get, it's magic can reach out pretty far.

Ulthok can use his bow of speed to get off extra shots. So do we go for the child eater or what.

Any preference to who should deploy where?

Weaver and Sirene can cast on the Wolfmen and create a deversion. The meatshields should read up on the Beholder so they understand the the Beholder attack magic.
