Weaver was going to teleport so the fighter can travel with him. I just don't know where he planned to come out. Check Kyles posts and Q&A.

Bri, I left it open so you and Ginafea could do what you wanted when we come out. I tryed to post so Ulthok was close enough to Rayne that she could teleport too. The same is for Valene and Althena.

Loki, to find out more about Tess look up the the Destiny Story Game. The background and the interaction between her and Captain Jon should give you a good idea of how she'll be.

I really miss that game, but I'm glad to have Celeste back in the story.

When Ulthok had finished telling his ideas he looked to top of the hill where Rayne had remain. The anger in her eyes told the story, she could not stand by another second. Drawing her bow she sent an energy arrow raging to the floating fiend. The arrow fell short and the element of surprise was now gone. Moving to top of hill Ulthok saw the Orcs mounting their Wargs and starting to charge their position; the Beholder had the humans gathered to form a defensive wall .

“Well my ladies time for a quick change. The direct attack is lost but we can’t stay here and fight our way to the wagons. I’m still teleporting in but behind the Orcs and beside the wagons opposite the evil eyed one so we can use them as cover. I’ll use my ring to hide from the Beholder so I can gain a better location to attack. If you wish to join me then grab on , we’ve no time to lose those Wargs will be here in no time.” When those that were going touch the mage Ulthok cast his teleport whisking them off to the wagons.

As they emerged from the spell Ulthok willed spirit into his ring vanishing. Moving into the wagon the mage kept himself hid from the Beholder‘s eye while he waited a chance to cast an attack of 5 magic missiles into the deadly eyed creature.

Great news.........the wagons can be cover!

I'm going post Ulthok teleporting to far end of the wagons as close to the corner on the opposite side from the Beholder.
That way as the Orcs and Wargs charge the hill we be behind them. Ulthok will go to the top of the hill so Rayne can join the teleport. He'll say something like "if you're coming latch on." Then it will be up the Valene , Rayne and Althena to join him. I plan to zip in and then vanish so he can position himself on a wagon to cast 5 missles on his next turn. Vanish again and move to a new position and zap 5 more.

If the Beholder falls quicker he'll go after the Warg riders with fireball, lightening or chain lightening. That could drop a bunch.

Weaver and the fighter need to figure what they plan to do.

Ok, if there isn't much area effect of the magic missles then that may be our mian attack. Sirene could hit it with 5 in the first round.

After the teleport in the second round both Ulthok and Weaver can hit it with 5 missles each from a hiding place or being invisible.

While the mages attack the Beholder then the Clerics could cast entangle to hold the Orc on the Wargs and then the archers can finish them off later. A well placed fireball in the middle of the Orc riders might work. If the Beholder is distracted enough then maybe even the Orcs out front could be held too. If the rest of the Orcs get entangled and the Beholder gets beat then move the women away and clear the Orcs with Chain Lightening. ZAP....KABOOM!!!!

If the Beholder is hit with Magic Missles is there any area effect that might hurt the human shield?

Does the Beholder have to see its target to hit it with the eyes spells and power?

Which direction is the Beholder facing so we know the anti magic area?

Will the wagons block the eye power of the Beholder?

Loki, I thought I'd do a little edit to my post anyway.

The more I thought it would have been more likely that the gun cabinets had built in locks and Ash just replaced them with the new techie locks. I'm going rewrite and have it so one of the three that one malfunctions and he can't get it open. That's where a bit of tech and device knowledge would allow John to whip out some fancy or regular tool to realiegn frequency, yadda, yadda, techie, techie, or basicly reboot the lock so it works. The more I thought of an external lock the less I liked that. Bolt cutters would get past them.

And this allows you to post as evens unfold. I would gather you helped Wolf and come in to do your turn as pilot but Wyatt pretty much would have settled on Tess. You do a couple more minor tweeks to help systems stuff, fix a food prep for Ma, a medical unit for Willow and then hear Ash cussing out the lock, stop by ask if you can help, bip bop. ,Bob's your Uncle and that's done too. Before you know it the crew is going to Wyatt and saying you're a mighty handy guy to have on board and the story goes on from there.

Subject: Ranges.......

I had posted the Beholder back on page 181.

I looked up the spell ranges too so here's the list with what I found.

Each of the beholder's eyes, including the central one has a different function. The standard smaller eyes of a beholder are as follows:
1. Charm person (as spell)(15 Foot Radius)
2. Charm monster (as spell)(60 Yards)
3. Sleep (as spell, but only one target)(30 Yards)
4. Telekinesis (250 pound weight)(10 Yards / Level)
5. Flesh to stone (as spell, )(30-yard range)
6. Disintegrate (20-yard range)
7. Fear (as wand)(60 Feet x 20 foot Cone)
8. Slow (as spell, but only a single target)(90Yards +10Yd per level)
9. Cause serious wounds (50-yard range)
10. Death ray (as a death spell, with a single target,( 40-yard range)

I'd had wanted Lightening Reflexes so I felt that Willow working with Ash on concentration and the lessons would improve his skills. Adding to pistols would come from the same thing. He helps her and she helps him to be quicker and more accurate. It would have added to hand to hand too but I put it in survival, working out with the doctor would lead to first aid skills for the thumps and bumps so he would pick up that and better reasoning too from meditations. His covert would rise from the same clear thinking.

Shotguns d8
Mechanical Engineering d6
MeleeWeaponCombat d4
Perception d6

Subject: Yes, Risky.......

Yeah it's risky and the Orcs may not become Chaotic, but we need to get to the Beholder to kill it. We need to try get it to move or have the defences lowered. Ulthok is basic lost to the first round of combat by having to teleport the archers in and getting him into range to cast spells.

Sirene can attack the Beholder which might make it move.

Just trying to create a path to the beholder for the fighters so they can they get in some solid licks before it uses its magic on them.

Subject: Renno.....

Beaumonde, Eisley Moss Space Port, 5:00 am

Rising early Ash took out the tools he had borrowed from the engine room. He then started removing the wall panels. There were several recesses that would work nicely………..
All through the morning Ash continued to measure and cut, form and hang, hammer and screw. When he needed materials he searched through the passenger rooms and storage areas and barrowed what he needed. The kid kept the door closed so none saw what was going on. Once Wolf caught him hauling some panels through the passage way and asked what he planned to do with them, “Oh just mak’en a new table and books shelf”, Ash mumbled as he rushed on the his cabin.

By lunch the renno was done, a new folding table was built in nicely to the wall with a two shelf book case inset to the wall. The kid stood back to inspect the look. He’d took time to be sure the wall corner seams looked original, you’d never notice the room was nearly a foot smaller. The three cabinets fit nicely on either side and a new set of shelves with securing latches and locks held the kid's gun cases.

Walking over to the table Ash reached under the table and released the catch holding the support leg. The leg slipped up into position and the table folded and lowered smoothly into a small recess. A slight push on the lower shelf and a slight tag on the upper shelf and top panel swung down revealing his newly acquired JC39 Assault Rifle/Shotgun, the ammo boxes tucked neatly to the sides.

The kid pushed the gun back into it’s hiding place and the shelves returned to their place.

Pushing the table with his foot he slid the lower shelf sideways into the wall revealing the cases to grenades and flashbangs. A light touch released the shelf and it cover the hidie hole.

The “questionable tools” of Asher’s trade were now more safely stored, it would take some special skills to find them. The only thing left was to figure out how those fancy techie locks he’d bought for the cabinets worked. He hadn’t listen closely enough when he got’em and now he had to figure um out. It had been pretty easy for the crew to get into his gear and now that he was back that would change. The locks were made to replace the builtin cabinet locks. It didn't take long to dismantel the the old locks an install the new ones. They had self contain power units and used bio recognition along with the encripted codes. It was easy to supply the drop of sweat, finger print and saliva need to set the bio scan. All he should have done was grab the handle and punch up the code. The handle had the bio reader and the code confirmed for access. He followed the instruction and programed each. The first two worked fine but the last one holding his faverite peace keepers wouldn't open. He tried to reprogram it but wouldn't accept the new setting. Well he had plenty of time, Wyatt was seeing folks to find a pilot so grabbing one of the locks he walked out into the passage to head to the cargo bay.

As he entered the way Wyatt was walking with some guy toward the Comm, as they passed the smiling stranger with the Captain nodded and muttered ,”Dude”. The gun slinger furrowed his brow but nodded back and then headed to the cargo bay to work on the new lock, maybe techie wasn’t the way to go. Taking a seat he spread out the papers that came with it and tried to follow the instruction. "Ta Ma Duh......Chwen lock.....piece of Luh Suh....Lio Coh Jwei Ji Neong Hur Ho Deh Yung Duh Buhn Jah
J’wohn." The kid just mumbled as he kept trying to understand the technical instructions to reprogram the lock.

It wasn’t hard to see the kid needed help.

Subject: Power Vacuum.....

Did all the Orcs join the circle around the Beholder so they are all on the same side of the wagons? I would think that would be likely. So we can teleport to far side of the wagons using them for cover.

I would think that if the Orc leader dies then there will be at least a power strugle between the rival Orcs. The Beholder would have to actively take control of the hord and that would distract from the woman and our attack. The Beholder would have to try to command the Orcs and would require it to kill some of them to get their attention. His Charm monster eye would control one after he can make it leader. They may fear the beholder but they want to be leader too.

We need to figure how to add to the chaos, the longer they would squabble the more time we have to attack.

The archer would need to stay out of the Beholders sight to avoid the eye spells. Spell of invisible could help, can't see it can't cast spell on it. But need to stay out from in front of then so the spell doesn't vanish.

OR

If the we kill off the Orc leader and the minions squabble some might be able to attack past the Orcs in front of the Beholder and rust it from the front to stay in the anti magic area and hack the thing up. The woman could flee or be told to drop to the ground as the Orcs attack each other.

Or a combo meal! Ulthok and archers teleport in behind the wagons. But will be Ulthoks only action for that round, the archers can attack Orcs or Wargs. Sirene can missle the Beholder. The archers zap the leader.

Weaver and the fighters hold a round and teleport in front of the beholder when the Orcs start fighting for leadership and rush it from within the anti magic zone. ( We need the Beholder and Orcs to react to give the fighter their opening.)

Ok all are risky, wha'cha think?

Would Rayne have been able to tell which eye cast the death ray? If so which one is it so it can be avoided or attacked.

Ulthok might be able to sneak up invisiible and hack off the death ray eye. Weaver might be able to approach too be casting invisible on himself.

If the two REALLY bad eyes can be destroyed then the attack would be easier. We might be able to teleport behind the wagons and use them as cover from the eyes.

After we get there, Ulthok could cast Phantasmal Killer on the Boss Orc. It would then freak causing the other Orcs to freak. The Beholder would be distracted by the freaking Orcs and could be open to close arrow attack. I would think it would be floating up and down and rising above the crowd to see.

How close are the people that make up the wall? If them aren't too close Sirene casts Summon Swarm to the area inside the human wall. It could harass the bebolder to move away from the people and then we can attack.

If we can still get close through teleport then the rest of the caster could get into range for casting. We could try invisible to get close but still try to keep out about 150 yards for the casters.

-----------------------------

If Ulthok can get close enough, he might be able to cast Phantasmal Killer and scare the beholder to death! Or cast it on the lead Orc and create some chaos.

I'd left the door open for Ash to meet John as he could be working in the techy shop that sold Ash his fancy locks for the gun cabinets. That could lead John to go look at the Roc.

I'll let Loki write the encounter of him and Ash in the shop if he'd like to go that way. Without to much dialog it could go along as he sees a young guy look confused over techy locks. Don't need to say they are Gun cabinets but he hesitates and calls them "tool" cabinets for "specialized" equipment. Something like need to keep nosey folks out and messy with the "calibrations".

Asher had got the list of supplies they’d need to make life more comforting as they traveled the black. Doing the shopping was nothing new to him, he’d done it often enough. The simple mindless shopping let Asher think over the past few months.

A smile crossed his face when as he remembers the day Willow had almost shyly approached him and a asked, "Asher? Would you do me a big favour? I need a training partner who will let me throw him around...and I think I can trust you to not get mad about it." The thought that this gentle little lady could throw him around had almost made his laugh. His brother’s had taught him to fight… to survive when the only weapons you had left were your own two hands. He’d taken many a punch to the face and gut before he’d learned to block and punch back. Now Miss Willow was wanting to learn to fight, it gave him pause but he was also honored. When he meet the doctor in the cargo bay where she’d place mats on the floor he was a bit confused with what they were going to do. Willow told him of this “Aikido” thing that Lao Tsu had started to show her. She slipped a data disc into the cargo bay reader and showed the kid the lessons.

Over the next several months Asher found that this “Little Lady” could dish the damage and easily as she could fix it in the sickbay. First time Willow had flung him it had only bruised his pride, Wolf and Sam had happened by and their laughs stung more than the face plant into the mat. Willow taught Ash about meditation and concentration along with the skills they developed through the lessons Lao Tsu had provided. With this calm and concentration Asher found that his draw seemed faster and smoother. When they had landed Ash found a place to do a bit of shoot’n practice, it sure seemed his speed and aim were better. Maybe being thrown around by a lady had it’s advantages.

-------------
Ash had returned to his room after helping Trish store the supplies. He looked around at the gun lockers and case that were just randomly secured in his room. It had been easy for the guys and Sam to help themselves to his gear. The Kid also knew some of his “tools” may not be looked on favorably if authorities ever decided to search the Roc so he started measuring and planning.

During his next few trips town he picked up some supplies , include fancy new locks for his lockers and cases. Also he found “unused” materials around the boat that nobody would miss…… he hoped. So when someone inquired about what he was doing and what was going on in his room he just told them he was building a book case, they didn’t need to know it would store more than just books.

Ash knew that Sam had done a lot for Wolf and that Wolf’s felt deeply beholden to him for that, but Ash also knew debt. Wyatt had pretty much taken over raise’n Ash and Sam was more family than the Kid could claim this side of the verse. But liv’n close let the Kid know the bounderies and Wolf had just pushed it. So he paused when Wolf shrugged off hand and winced when he heard Wolf continue.

"Doesn't matter how hard it is if we don't at least try what does that make us cowards? For him to leave like this means he is in deep kimche and needs our help. Just because he's too proud or afraid of us getting hurt to ask for our help does not mean we just give up trying to give it to him!"

Asher walked away, but wasn’t surprised when to hear Wyatt, "Sam Dash don't exist, dòng bu dòng? (Do you understand?) He ain't never existed as far as you're concerned--any of you. Someone asks you if you know Sam Dash...well, the immediate answer that you better conjure up consists of askin' if that's some sort o' cookin' condiment. If'n I find out that you--any o' you--set on a path lookin' after that ta made niao (g**da**) fool, I'll ventilate your brainpan so that the goldpanners on Haven could use it as a sieve. Hell. I'd sell it to 'em for a bite of a protein bar at that point. Now, guan ni ziji de shi (mind your own business), and get t' work."
The Kid hoped the mechanic would understand Wyatt’s meaning as well as his words. If Wolf hadn’t been considered family the Capt’n would most likely have tossed him off the boat, but instead he spoke to all, to the family.
