Subject: A Plan................

Ok, we have the start of a plan.

I don't remember how we got small the last time so we to figure who and how on that.

Ulthok can cast 10' Invisible to hide the group now being toted by Maggot. Then as we move out of the cave do Dimension Door to take us to middle of the bridge. Rayne could layer a Protection From Evil that might help the Door spell. We would be able to see if the door opened in right spot before we go through. If the spell doesn't work we make our way on foot.

Someone (Sirene) could cast haste on Maggot to get there faster. Others could cast Non Detect on Maggot which would cover us all as we would be part of his stuff. A 15' foot radius Silence (Cor or Rayne) would keep his foot steps quiet.

Then when get to the middle of the bridge we cross our finger and zip away via the teleport as Maggot sings Bye Bye Birdie to the crows and vultures.

Gee, it's going to be easier to find where Ash isn't injured. Are you keeping track on the little "Operation" figure to tell where to hit Ash next, lol?

Thank goodness there aren't any more Mustard family, I think all of them got their licks in on the Kid.

Can we say the Mustard family is spread a little thin!

Don't tell me, there is still another sister; Honey Mustard.
Or maybe Grandpa Grey Poupon.

Gee, I think I got a few lines for my next post.

Gee do we have a bio-suit and a flamethrower on board? A bit of roast and toast of those sicky bugs and the maybe a little loot a la soot!

Subject: DM's call.............

Just for thought, the games I've played as a cleric, it was required to pray at least once per day and usually for an hour to stay in good grace and ask for spells.

The wizards had to memorize and perpare the elements so the eight hour wasn't unusual, but then they kept those spells until the next study session.

The priest could change spells more often with only taking time out to pray. That was where Withdraw was great so they could do that and spend and an hour praying in just a couple of minutes. The down side was they were completely valnerable as they stood there praying.

As for Nap, it is a level 2 priest spell, so if Tann would define is as a "Common" spell then all of our priest would know it, they may have just not thought of it. It is from the Priest Compendium but it still can be defined as "Common".

If Bossman allow Nap as "Common" in his world then each priest could cast it on seperate mages and in the one hour we could achieve eight hours study. The warrior types would have to protect the mages as they "Nap".

This might be a good place where Valene pipes up about maybe helping with casting Nap, then the other priest slap their foreheads and say"Oh yeah, we forgot about that!"

Sorry if I was holding you folks up from your posts. I didn't mean to delay you. Next time give me a direct nudge in an email or PM or here. I can at least give you the jest of what I'm up to and if needed do a few mini posts to keep things moving.

Does anyone have Dimension Door ready? We could use that for short hops.

Since Tann pulled Halia's sheet I don't remember if she was a priest type or wizard type. Spell books or prayer books.

If she had Nap as a priest then it was a prayed for spell. Also her spell book won't help the wizards only the priest.
If it's a prayer couldn't the clerics read it and ask their gods to grant it? It shouldn't take hours of study, just time in prayer.

Or do I have that wrong?

Subject: Consider............

The thief in Ulthok was always found it a pleasant relief to do a bit of treasure hunting. The allure of possible finds is a great distraction from the ever looming tension of merely surviving. Once it was evident there were no traps the hunt was on. Soon it was evident that the giants were only attracted shiny things or items of their own making. The bright coins proved to be only copper coins, dull and of little value. The search found only a few items that might be of use.

A plain silver amulet of two hands clasped together. A human sized pouch with 20 small glass beads.
A medium sized Rabbit’s foot on a chain. A second small pouch well made and expensive looking, but empty and finally a red and silver, very well made, human sized blanket.

Ulthok gathered these up so that they could return to their friends. He would cast a detect magic then to see which would be worth trying to determine their use. Perhaps one of the other would have an Identify spell ready.

Some crude coal drawings also drew his attention. Giants aren’t known for their art work; this could well be a message left by one of the poor souls that were captured by these menaces of the mountain. The others may see something or even the new Elven Paladin recognizes the areas from flights over these mountains.

As he prepared to leave he noted the feathered hat that the little cleric was now wearing. She seemed quite pleased with this find and it did look quite natural on her.

Agreeing there was nothing more to salvage they made their way back the party.

As they approached Ulthok heard the talk of trying to teleport, the presence of dragons and the feeling that a Shadow Wraith being near.

“Great googlie mooglie, leave for a few minutes and you folks find all kinds of trouble.”, the mage laughed. “I agree we need to flee insted of try to face that kind of strength. Teleport has its risks and they can be deadly, but staying here to fight dragons and wraiths could be worse.”

The mage started layout there find as he continued the comment, “We need to remember that the forces in this mountain have affected our spells and we need to be sure we are away from this influence before we risk our lives. Trying to go and come and go and come continues to magnify the risk. One trip, all at once may be best. We all got small before so that could be the key to all traveling again. The mage that best remembers the spot should cast the teleport. But you need to know I don't have it ready and it will take hours to perpare. We very well may have to make a run for it.”

“Now look what we found, its not much but it may have some help. There wasn’t any treasure but these may prove of value. Cor, Ayreon take a look at these drawings, they may be maps left by one of the desperate prisoners of the giants. It could give us an alternate direction. So while you look at that I’ll see if the other items may be of a magical source. If they prove indeed magical there we can investigate them more.“

Ulthok hand the drawings to Ayreon and turned to cast detect magic items he had laid out before the group.

Gee I wonder who that could be?

I've been doing research on the items mentioned in Tann's post to figure what to do next.

I was going to point out my post too that the evil magic in the mountain can effect spells like telelport so we need to find a place out of its effect before gang using it.

Ulthok will bring all five items back and the drawings; they appear to be crude maps, might be useful.

He'll ask for help it detecting the power of the items if they prove magical. Hill giants are known to destroy items if they suspect them to be magic.

I'll try to post early this evening. I was hoping to see something from Kriea.

Subject: Deja Vu all over again........................

We talked about teleport before, it is very danagerous if the wizard is not very familure with landing location.

Casual knowledge will be chancy. Main is just a casual spot we were in, if we have spent a lot of time there then it would be different. Dimension Door is good for short hops like going to, on or across the bridge.

If Ulthok tried then he could take maybe two small people or one large.

If Haila had it in her spell book then Sirene should be able to memorize it, but trying it for the first time might be risky. Maggot would have to copy the spell and then memorize it. I think you have to have it in your spell book first.

That's a DM's call.

Subject: Loot??????????????????

(O.C.C. Assuming Kriea agrees with my assumptions.)

There was little doubt in Ulthok’s mind that Valene not only knew where the treasure was located but being she had spent a year in these caves she was aware of what was there and what was protecting it. The giants would feel secure in their own home so it was unlikely they would have set traps that might ensnare the young.

They made to the far side of cave; there in what appeared to a recess in the wall was an opening into another room. Although to the giants this may have a small storage area, to the Halflings it was a wondrous treasure vault.

(O.C.C. also assuming there isn’t any nasty surprises.)

Ulthok watched as Valene carefully approached the opening. They both skillfully determined it was safe to enter. There on the cave floor were sacks, pouches, chests, packs and piles of clothing, armor and weapons. Coins of gold and silver spilled out of some items and hard corner protrusion bulge from others. Although gold and silver was easy to spend, Ulthok was drawn to the bundles that might contain books, scrolls or magical items. Ulthok’s years of dealing with treasure allowed him to quickly search and collect items that might prove magical and protective. Using one of the satchels the skilled thief gathered items to share or use later.

Occasionally he glanced at the female Halfling as she too quickly appraised what she might deem useful. He noted she seemed to root the clothes as if she was looking for something special.

Subject: You Bet'cha there's good stuff still...........

It has taken me a while to get a feel for Ulthok. I'm working him a bit and I feel the time is ripe for some good old treasure looting!!!!!!!!!!

Little guys need cool stuff to keep alive. I am just now figuring out how to work his stuff. Pulling out the Panther and the wand to attack the Zombie Lord took a bit of research and thinking. I had the wrong set of spells and it was time to get creative. I liked it. I hope to do other things beside spell cast. If Ulthok can find better magic wares then I'm all for it.

The gold and such are ok, but give me some cool magic stuff to play with. Well I will admit that jewels do temp the Halfling.

Tann, if Kriea is going to be out a while should I just make up stuff about her leading to the loot or are you going to NPC her a bit? Valene has the knowledge of the small cave, now is it a small cave to our standard or to a giant's standard, oh that could hold a lot of loot.

It would be nice if both Ulthok and Valene checked for traps, between the two of them they should be pretty thorough.

Subject: Haste Makes Waste...........

Valene had listened to the party’s plan of a quick exit, but true to her nature she reminded them of the loot collected by the giants. “I agree but in the last of the caves, the smallest, the Giants kept a few chests and bags of things looted in their raids should we not check those first before leaving. Might that there be items we could use?”

Ulthok perked up with the conformation of collected treasures. There could be valuable rings and amulets that may provide more protection for the party. With any luck even a bag of holding to help move some of the items. Surely others adventures had pasted this way on a similar search. Wizard’s books and scrolls may have been tossed in, if only to be used as fire starters at another time.

As the Halfling started to amend his comment of haste, Ayreon staggered back from cave opening. Collapsing he uttered, “Shadow”. Whatever that was the mage no longer wanted to move out too quickly.

As members of the party gathered to attend to Elven warrior, Ulthok turned to Valene. “While they are seeing to Ayreon, let us go quickly and see what might be of use in the small cave you spoke of.”

Subject: Loot??????????????????

This has been a single minded, dedicated group to find the sword, that was their only treasure. Besides we have being fighting off your baddies and getting the heck out of Dodge before more show up, lol.

If I do remember Ulthok searched the lower level of the temple, finding the iron weapons but no loot!

With that evil outside I do believe it's time to check out the Giants stash, no need to rush into trouble. A good job for Ulthok , Val and maybe Cor or Lothor. The others need to attend to Ayreon and consider an exit strategy. We need to find Valene's magic hat, maybe cool rings and amulets. Ulthok will go for possible magic type of items, even books and scolls. Let the others go for the gold and weapons. Maybe find a bag of holding.

So my post is going to have him going. so if Kriea doesn't show for while can't get an assist on the loot location from Lothor?

Subject: Beautiful Morning..............

It was a beautiful morning here in Northeast Ohio for the decorating of the graves at Western Reserve National Cemetery.

There was a great turnout of Scouts and adults. The flags were placed on about 30,000 sites in about an hour.

It was amazing to see the boys and girls flood through the row upon row of head stones and leave a brightening of red, white and blue flags against the white on green of the headstones in the fields of honor.

If any of you receive the American Legion newsletter there will be an article in an upcoming issue on the event. You will see the RL Odyson as one of the two adults leaders present today that have been to all the decoration events since the opening in 2000.

Thank you to all our veterns, their families and to all that have served to keep freedom alive.

Thank you to those friends and allies in countries around the world that stand to keep people free. We remember your people and their service too.

Back when Andrew came back wearing the badge he said his goodbyes. I skimmed it, saw Ash grabbing gear and well I guess I over thunk GEAR.

It made sense that Andrew would give Ash and Wolf his goodie bag.

I can pull it all back and repost without the Optical bomb. The bomb was one of items Ye Olde listed when Andrew and Wolf took the mules to get Ash. The stuff was listed on page 31.

Let's roll....
Andrew Bowman stowed the things on the mule and then strapped himself into a seat as he waited for the signal to go…. He did another check of his own gear… his guns were in their usual places… the PK12 pistol on his right hip … his Avenger suppressed revolver on his left hip in a cross draw holster… his Neotech Derringer in its spring loaded holster on his left forearm… he had all of his reloads stowed on his belt… 3 mags for the PK12 and 2 speed loaders for the revolver.. This was nothing new.. his normal walking around arsenal.

The only other gear that he had brought was lockpick sets .. both electronic and regular .. stowed inside his vest pocket… he had 6 mag charges.. a debugger … and an optical bomb in a small bag hanging from a shoulder strap … he didn’t think he would need them but who knew what they were walking into… didn’t hurt to be prepared.
