Subject: A Heated Battle.....


Attacking while invisible was not new to Ulthok but having the entire party veiled and gaining surprise was most unusual. The power the first Beholder had shown they would need this advantage.

Still linked to enable them to stay within the the veil the party took positions so as to see their targets and loose their attacks. They knew they had to hit quick and hard in order to minimize the response from now two of these powerful creatures.

Ulthok figure the distance to place a spell of "Fire Ball" between the Beholders; there by impacting both with one attack.

Quietly uttering the words of magic he cast the deadly attack.

As Peri's body had been prepared Ulthok deside to keep her with him is pouch of holding. Opening the pouch to make special space he saw some of the content and he realized that both Lothor and Valene had lost their boots in the battle. Pulling the Wizard's Boots of Featherweight, Bareel's Boots of Striding & Springing and the boots for the butcher in the castle he looked them over.

The mage handed the Wizard's boot to Valene, "These may be helpful in travels through dangerous areas." Then he handed Lothor the Boots of Striding & Springing, the fighter had had his own pair and would be comfortable wearing these. The butchers boot still had bad memories attached so Ulthok left them for another time.

Ulthok then lovingly place his small companion gently into the pouch, "We will meet again my friend."

You may have something. Why are they standing guard? We've been teased by Tann to think they are coming after us, not holding back. Is Tann making this seem too easy? Geeze but he keeps me paranoid.

Should we creep up?

As for a magic item for Lothor, I don't remember any. I'll check to see what I can find but remember he would need to learn how to use it. It's like a level 1 trying to use a +4 weapon, you need some proficiency. Magic users have training in controlling magic and magic items.

Now you got me worried about this attack. We don't know a lot about the Beholders magic, could they have some kind of shielding or set out alarms?

Valene can fire her cross bow.

Cor and alyia could both do Magic Missiles split between both.

Now I get it and Peri is safely tucked away.

If there is no drawing to show distance or position can we call the near guard #1 and far #2 and assume they are in range for any attack?

If we split the attack we need to be able to say which we are attacking.

These could be important in case of blow back from spell and exploding beholders.

BTW, do we get a move and an attack?
My thought is some could move back down the hall to protect them from attacks sent at random toward us.

Also does the hall go past the beholders?
If we hit with area effect spells while hidden in the veil the beholders may not be able to tell which direction the attack came.

But..I'm confused....maybe I just misread or misunderstood.?

... she will be in a sort of magical time stasis. Remember if you do go back to the future because she is dead her body will age beyond the raise allowed time.

If she is in the magical stasis then she should not be effected by time. The stuff in the bag was not effected when we went back so she shouldn't be effected going forward.

Are you saying that her body needs to be out of the bag before we go back to keep the body from aging....or if Peri is in the bag she is protected from aging?

We will go with the option that protects her body from aging.

Subject: The Rod.....


I talked to Tann about the Rod and he said it has 35 charges so it has plenty of use.

I don't like the idea of an ambush, it could lure too many at one time. We need to hunt them down and knock them off one at a time. If we hit them hard and fast it seems we can take the out. Check all your power weapons and high damage items, they are needed to pull this off.

The veil sounds good to pass through the halls and Ulthok can go invisible as he checks the hall for traps and such.

Well that makes a big difference. If Peri has no spells then she would not be of any help. And if she might die quickly again it is not worth it to the party.

So I'll change my vote.

How about Lothor carries the body in his backpack? He is strong enough and should have plenty of room. And he's a really sweet guy.

As for Peri she still has some spells that can be helpful. I also think that it is in Valene's nature to to try and raise her. Valene has two raise spells so I'd say she'll use one before the party moves on.

Do we need a table vote?

This gets everyone back to full, but uses a bunch of spells and potions.

Aliya gets a Heal from Sirene.

Cor drinks his 2 potion and cast a cure light wounds on himself.

Rayne uses a heal on herself.

Valene drinks her potion uses a Cure Critial and gets a cure Critical from Sirene.

Ulthok got a potion from Lothor, gets Cure Critical Wounds from Sirene and a Cure Moderate from Cor.

Talca drinks his two potion and gets a gets Cure Moderate Wounds from Rayne.

Lothor gets a Heal from Valene.

Roan get a Cure Serious Valene, a Cure Serious from Rayne, two Cure Moderate from Cor.

Sirene can use her other Heal on herself.


We'd have 9 potions left so I say we pass them out so each member still has one on them.

As an option I've worked out a healing to get everyone back to full.

I do need Nimu to decide about the change thing. That changes to mix a little.

I didn't use the option of the Staffs.

Subject: I Know I'd Seen Something.....Roan's Rod of Security...


I knew I remember something like this but I was thinking it was the Jin.

This could be something we can use now.Roan has this Rod.

Rod of Security (Each time a charge is expended, this item creates a non-dimensional space, a "pocket paradise." Where the rod's possessor and as many as 199 other creatures can stay in complete safety for a period of time, the maximum being 200 days divided by the number of creatures affected. Thus, one creature (the rod's possessor) can stay for 200 days; four creatures can stay for 50 days; a group of 60 creatures can stay for three days. All fractions are rounded down, so that a group numbering between 101 and 200 inclusive can stay for one day only. In this "paradise,'' creatures don't age (except from magical causes such as the casting of a wish spell), and natural healing and curing take place at twice the normal rate. Fresh water and food (fruits and vegetables only) are in abundance. The climate is comfortable for all creatures involved, so that protection from the elements is not necessary. Activation of the rod causes the wielder and as many creatures as were touched with the item at the time of use to be transported instantaneously to the paradise. (Members of large groups can hold hands or otherwise touch each other, allowing all to be "touched'' by the rod at once.) When the rod's effect is cancelled or expires, all of the affected creatures instantly reappear in the location they occupied when the rod was activated. If something else occupies the space that a traveler would be returning to, then his body is displaced a sufficient distance to provide the space required for "re-entry."
The rod can be recharged by the joint efforts of a priest of 16th or higher level and a wizard of 18th or higher level.)

Here's an option. We all go and spend 2 days healing and replentish all spells and raise Peri.

We recast the elemental protections spells again and then return to the hall.

The down side is that the other beholders could be there by then.

I talked to Tann and asked about allowing the max 21 curing from the staffs instead of the chance roll of 3d6+3 because they are used by high level characters.

He said ok, but it would use 3 charges instead of 2. So I leave it to the owners of the staffs to say if they want to play it this way or not.

Subject: Oh The Pain.........


The creature’s icy shard breath ripped into Ulthok and the other but it here the weakened party’s attacks against the beholder struck. Fire and lightening engulfed the thing as melee missiles crashed into it. The force of the attack was devastating and the horror began to collapse. Though dying the creature had one last revenge, it exploded dealing heavy force blow against the group.

The force knocked Ulthok to the ground, consciousness was floated in and out. Pain wracked his body, his head pounded; but there was more, something wasn’t right. Laying motionless nothing made sense. Then there was something pouring down his throat, healing started to course through his body as the potion took effect. Looking up he saw the new party member step back with the empty flask. His mind started to clear and suddenly he felt the loss. The comforting little presents in his mind was silent..no not silent…gone. He heard Cor from across the the room, "If one of ye could gather Peri's body we will take her with us. The wee one has saved us more than once and has proven ta be a great friend. Once we are clear of these foul beasts I will see if we can bring her back. For now we need ta focus on healing ourselves before another one of those things finds us." Ulthok watched as the small bundle was stored safely to protect her body from aging if they should be whisked away back to their own time.

As the full realization gripped him the mage cried out, “Noooooooooo………” Jumping up he ran to where Peri’s lifeless body was being lovingly wrapped in bundling cloth. Someone reached out and pulled him close. Valene still weak from her own healing hugged Ulthok and held him. Tears streamed down his face as he shook with despair. Dropping to his knees he wept unashamed. Valene gently rocked him until he stopped shacking.

Finally Ulthok look up into Valene’s eye. Taking her face in his hands he kissed firmly on the mouth, “Thank you…. You of all know the pain of this and I must suppose you feel it nearly as much me…. She’d want us to see to the others so we’d best starting healing everyone..and then we must more on.”

Sadly but determined the party began passing out potions and casting spells of hearing.

Is there something about if Sirene shapechanges that she can healing?

I found it. Shape-change into a Reptile, Bird or Mammal 3 times a day but each form only once that day. Assuming new form heals 1d6x10% of all damage. So Sirene can change shape, then take less to finish the heal. that can save one of the Heal spells. That could cure up to 60% of the damage. That would change her from needing 64 to needing 27 or just one potion or cure serious.

Sirene also has a Druid Staff of Striking and Curing. Staff can be used to cure disease, cure blindness, cure wounds (3d6+3 hit points, Max 21 HP). This the same as Cor's Staff of healing.

What do you thing Nimu?

Is that Ranger thing too?

Just saw Alyia has the Wand of the Mystic: Wand when commanded acts as a Sword of LightA Sword of Light functions as a +4 Scimitar that can also emit a Blinding Light spell 3 times per day. Anyone within 20 feet must save vs. Blindness or be blinded for2d4 rounds and cast Cure Serious Wounds once per day.( Each costs 2 charges per use. Wand currently has 16 charges and is rechargeable.) So some more healing.

Subject: Additional Healing....


Cor also has a Staff of Curing: This device can cure disease, cure blindness, cure wounds ( 3d6+3 hit points, 21HP max), or
cure insanity. Each function drains one charge. The device can bi used once per day on any person
(dwarf,elf,gnome,half-elf, halfling included), and no function may be employed more than twice per
day(i.e., the staff can function only eight times during a 24-hour period). It can be recharged.

It has 14 charges.

If we are real nice to Tann maybe he'll just let the staff do max healing as it is being used by the most senior Knight's Cleric of Odin.

Staying my sister-in-law's last night and driving all day today didn't leave me too good for posting.

I'm more pooped than I thought I'd be.

Evenings should be quiet enough this week for me to pull some ideas together.

I'll look at the healing and toss out ideas on our move.

I have to write something on Peri's death and Valene being down and how it is affecting Ulthok. Then I'll turn it back to the quest.

They are saying there will be rain here at the beach but I don't care.

A rainy day on the beach is better than a sunny day at work!
