Ok, just to add to possible actions.

If Ulthok would change into another form, his ring would still work on that form too.

So that he vanished, change into something and then attack in that form. Would that kind of attack get any sneak attack bonus?

Sirene was flying in the room before, so how high is the ceiling?

Subject: Thanks Gina...

As you might have noticed, I've started posting the spells in our Q&A so everyone has a better idea what to expect or might have a better idea on what to use. I do go back to the character lists to see what others might have too.

I've gone so far as to actually having a spell book for Ulthok where I've copied all his spells for easy reference.

I'm not trying to go against our original plan that Keeper set out but it just looks like the story changed that plan for us. To me it just seems we now need to occupy and defeat each bug one on one because they can't be singled out for group attack safely. Sure we will need to help each other best we can as the oppertunity arises.

I just felt that with Ulthok now poisoned his physical attacks would be weaker and casting helpful spells on party members could serve the group more. He tried "fighter hero" and now he needs to fall back on his Mage / Thief skills.

BTW Gina Ulthok is still smiiten by Sirene and he really appreciates her going after bug #2. In my post he will be vanishing, but moving behind Kenji, so there will be a clear path to bug #2. You'll hear him shout out as he screams in pain and them warning Kenji as what is about to happen to him.

Gina, do you want to see the post too in PM so all three of us can better plan?

RPN, Nenji will increase 110% because Ulthok is an 11th level mage.

That makes make him 154 inches tall, 12foot 8inch, bwaaahahah.
And @ 170 pounds he's now 374 pounds, Heavy...dude!!

Plus your weapons are 110% larger, they increase in proportion.

I've started to work on the post, RPN do you want me to PM it to you first so we can tweek it?

I think if Sirene steps up to take on bug #2, Big Kenji hits #1, Cor on #7, Conall on #4 & Alasdair on # 5 that should give Althena and Cynil hit #10.

Ulthok will get back in the fight next round. But if another good spell on one of our folk helps then I'll look into that.

Subject: This is now my only game...........

With Al out for RL stuff this is my only game, so except questions so this is player well.

Now I thought that going invisible with the ring was of an "at will" type action because it didn"t require special activation, like him boots, they just work when he wants them to work.

My thought was similar to our last battle where he went invisilbe, advanced a half move and then attacked with the bow that brought him out of invisible and then he willed invisible again.

My thought for this round was to will invisible form the ring, half move to change location to avoid charging bug, cast spell as round action (I didn't see anywhere that said casting a spell brings him visible, only if he attacks does he become visible.)

I want to give Kenji "Enlarge" so he can deal more damage with the two iron swords but now as a larger being.

I'm trying to use more of Ulthok's potential of being an 11th level mage, I'm still getting use to this much ability.

I'm thinking that Kenji "Large" would be more effective that Ulthok Polymorphed.
Great Googily Moogily, I need an editor. I just reread that first sentance, lol.

Let's see it should have been "expect". "so that this one is played well."

Duration: 5 rds./level Casting Time: 1
Area of Effect: 1 creature or object Saving Throw: Neg.

This spell causes instant growth of a creature or object, increasing both size and weight. It can be cast only upon a single creature (or a symbiotic or community entity) or upon a single object that does not exceed 10 cubic feet in volume per caster level. The object or creature must be seen to be affected.

It grows by up to 10% per level of experience of the wizard, increasing this amount in height, width, and weight. (110% for a 11th level mage)

All equipment worn or carried by a creature is enlarged by the spell.

Unwilling victims are entitled to a saving throw vs. spell. A successful saving throw means the spell fails. If
insufficient room is available for the desired growth, the creature or object attains the maximum possible size, bursting weak enclosures in the process, but it is constrained without harm by stronger materials--the spell cannot be used to crush a creature by growth.

Magical properties are not increased by this spell--a huge sword +1 is still only +1, a staff-sized wand is still only capable of its normal functions, a giant-sized potion merely
requires a greater fluid intake to make its magical effects operate, etc. Weight, mass, and strength are affected, though. Thus, a table blocking a door would be heavier and more effective, a hurled stone would have more mass (and cause more damage), chains would be more massive, doors thicker, a thin line turned to a sizeable, longer rope, and so on.

A creature's hit points, Armor Class, and attack rolls do not change, but damage rolls increase proportionately with size. For example, a fighter at 160% normal size hits with his long sword and rolls a 6 for damage. The adjusted damage roll is 10 (that is, 6 x 1.6 = 9.6, rounded up). Bonuses due to Strength, class, and magic are not altered.
The reverse spell, reduce, negates the enlarge spell or makes creatures or objects smaller. The creature or object loses 10% of its original size for every level of the caster, to a minimum of 10% of the original size. Thereafter, the size shrinks by 1-foot increments to less than 1 foot, by 1-inch increments to 1 inch, and by 1/10-inch increments to a minimum of 1/10 of an inch--the recipient cannot dwindle away to nothingness.
For example, a 16-foot-tall giant reduced by a 15th-level wizard (15 steps) would be reduced to 1.6 feet (in nine steps), then to 6/10 of a foot or 7.2 inches (in one step), and finally to 2.2 inches (in the last five steps). A shrinking object may damage weaker materials affixed to it, but an object will shrink only as long as the object itself is not damaged. Unwilling creatures are allowed a saving throw vs. spell.

The material component of this spell is a pinch of powdered iron.

I know you're a bit PC challenged with your unit out for repair, but I hope you can supply some information.

Is the bug that Ulthok shoot now blinded or just one side?
If one side, which? Could help in flanking.

If it's blind that leads to different strategy. Let it flounder and attack one of the others. It might yet attack one of its own by mistake.

Is the bug that bit Ulthok too close to use the bow or can he fire off the arrows?

If ulthok goes invisible can he move and cast a spell?
I'm thinking of casting "Enlarge" on Althena, make her a giant and give her a chance to crush bugs like Sirene the Bear. Maybe even cast Polymorph on her to become a giant bear too. (Bears rule!!!!!)

Is Ulthok now too weak to "Polymorph" and become a giant bear like Sirene?

The small mage took his stance next to his companions. He realized there comes a time when one must go against your natural instincts and do what is right. It was no longer time to hit and run; it was time to stand tall. If iron is what is needed to defeat these foes then iron is what he would be. It is time to “float like a butterfly and sting like bee”. With iron in his bow, iron on his hip and iron up his sleeves he would give every last once of that iron to protect his friends. Subject: Is Defensive a Stall?

Ok, if we are not attacking how can we do damage? Being defensive doesn't kill bugs. Ulthok can fire four arrows per round, should he state he's shooting two in each bug #1 and #2. He is most effective as a sneak attacker, using his ring to vanish then gain a flank, attack and vanish again. Same to a sword attack. Even joking about jumping on a bug is not a totally bad idea. He'd gain a backstab bonus if it worked.

So should he hold or fight?

Looking out through the main bridge window Jon saw the glint of light that must have been the courier ship that had hailed them. It was moving slowly but didn’t appear to be trying to intercept them.

Suddenly there was a flash of light so bright it reflected off the asteroid and then the Arrowhead was gone. No sound in space robbed the brilliant explosion of its drama but in an instant the ship was destroyed.

“Ta Ma Duh,” Jon blurted as the flash lit that small spot of the Black. Turning to his crew he could see Tess’s eye bulging wide behind her flight goggles. Tess gripped the controls desperately, she barely had enough time to scream "Brace for Impact!!" into the comm.

The shockwave from the blast rode out across the black, slamming into Destiny and threw it across the black like a leaf in the wind. The shock wave tossed Jon toward the floor; he saw Jason lose his balance. Before they could hit the deck a blackness enveloped them. The familiar sounds of Destiny’s throbbing mechanics were gone; only the sound of objects crashing on the deck broke the silence.

The knot in Jon’s stomach just twisted tighter, he’d been through this darkness before………….

Light Knorr Class Battle Transport “Hazard” April 2511

A small converted transport move agilely through the black. A young goggled pilot maneuvered the craft past asteroids and space debris. The small band of raiders were on a desperate mission. The team was lead by a young Captain that had pulled off some daring raids with the help of the fancy flying of the female pilot now at the helm.
The war was not going well for the Independents and a major campaign was being planned on Hera. Secret plans had been placed into action to harass the Alliance so that troops and units would be diverted and kept away from Hera. Captain Jon Brown had drawn a raid on Osiris.

The inner core plant was the home of the Alliance’s legal system, but more important the Blue Sun company was setting up major offices there. The hope was that if the Independents could just get there and create a disturbance then Big Money would demand protection and their favorite son General Richard Wilkens would be called back. The big money would demand that the Judicial System be protected, of course Blue Sun would also benefit. At least that was the plan.

Independents intel got weaker the closer to the core planets but the hope was staying to some of the relatively standard shipping routes in a common Knorr class ship they could slip in. Daring or reckless it was still their mission.

So Tess kept the “Hazard” to the outer edge of lane where she had room to maneuver. Their hopes were running high as they were only a few hours from Osiris. The asteroid belt was thinning so the patrol boats and Interceptors had fewer places to hide.

“Tess, keep a close eye on those sensors we don’t want to meet up with anything this close.” Tess gave him her, well I’d never have thought of that look. “Will do Captain, but there does seem to be more small stuff floating around out there.”

As if on cue as they were passing a small moon and there was flash off the portside. The blast wasn’t enough to damage the boat but every system winked out. The Knorr class boats were so reliable that they only had third class engineer on board. Jon could hear the panic in his voice as he said, “nothing is working, …..this doesn’t happen, ….nothing is working!” As the man flipped switches Jon could see an Alliance Cruisers coast out from behind the small moon.

The Cruiser crept forward and from it emerged a dozen fighters that streaked across the gap of space to form a deadly ring around the Hazard. The lead boat moved in and made a loud clanking sound as it latched on to the docking bay. Within seconds the lights can back on followed by a voice over the intercom.

“This is Captain Lazarus Chen of the Alliance Cruiser Apollo. You have been disabled by an Elector Magnetic Pulse mine, an unmanned drone has been attached to your docking port and is now supplying power to your systems... and control to us. The Captain of your vessel will acknowledge this transmission and please have all occupants of your craft enter the drone. You are under arrest by the order of the Alliance for violating secured space. If you fail to acknowledge this transmission or refuse to enter the drone you and your craft will be destroyed. You have thirty seconds to reply. Thank you.”

Jon could feel himself going pale as he realized the lives of crew and the raiders were now in his hands. Their mission had failed and to resist would not change the course of the war. These people had families that they may be able to return to some day.

Taking the transmitter Jon looked at Tess, “Forgive me!” Then he keyed the transmission, “This Jon Brown, Captain of the Hazard. We will comply.”

With that the air lock on the docking bay activated and the door to drone slide open. Jon then key the ships comm, “Please remove all weapons and file into the drone. I’m sorry I failed you but maybe I can save you.“

Turning to Tess Jon hung his head, “I sorry!”

With that Jon lead his crew off the bridge to the drone……………………...

Through the dark of Destiny's bridge Jon shouted, “Tess, it’s an EMP, we’re open to boarding. Find any hand lights you can and listen for something trying to latch on. There was something more than just that Arrowhead out there. The earn boy didn’t succeed so that’s the price of failure. This was too High Tech for the Tong, more likely we got a Marauder out there. This trap ain’t closed yet.”

Through the dark Jon makes out Kens voice, ‘I’m headed to the main airlock, someone watch the Hover Bay in case they latch on there.”

“Good idea,.. Jason can you grab a weapon and cover the Hover Bay? Tess can you stay here and be ready for when power comes back on, you need to hold the bridge. Maybe our Lady will add her blessing to us, if anyone can see in the dark it’ll be her.”

Jon and Jason felt their way out the bridge, Jon made his to his quarters across the rec area to find Maria. Even in the dark Jon knew his room like the back of his hand. In no time he had Maria straped to his leg and he grabbed a couple of flash bangs for good measure. Leaving his room he enter to ship to listen for any strange sounds.

First here's a nice soft fuffy towel you may need it for of staffer that has a special greeting.

Next be sure to read "Pit F(r)iend's epic guide" on the home page. Our buddy put together a great starter info kit.

There are a lot fun thing here, it may just take a bit of time wandering through the halls of the Inn to find what fits you best.

Our Dragonchat is a good place to meet one on one and get feel for the character behind the character. The In Character and Out Of Character always seems to blur and that makes for fun chats.

It would also be nice if you vote up the Inn. a short cut is on the home page. This helps bring in new folks and keeps things fresh.

Hornsilver Mine - Topside, Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 12:10 am Planet Time

The hover mule banks up the hill and then Wolf swings it around and comes to a stop. There, before them, is the shaft to the mine. There is a cover over the shaft, made of quarter inch thick steel plates and 2x4 wooden beams.

The mule stops, Ash Swings his SPAS30 over his shoulder, leaps out and sprints to the shaft opening. Wolf follows behind checking his guns as he moves.

Someone has already been here and opened up a corner of the cover to be able to slip underneath. Ash peered down into the darkness of the shaft, there are many handholds available and the safety ladders mounted to each wall are still intact.

Wolf turned to Ash, “So rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first?”........

As Wolf raises his hand to throw a sign Ash grabs the cover and step over the edge into the shaft. “I ain’t never been so good at games, looks like you win, I’ll go first. “ Then turning his head back to Wolf he grinned, “ Besides I’ve already been blown up once tonight how much worse can it get.”

Ash also knew that doc’s pain killer wouldn’t last all night and he had to act while he could still move. Dropping on to the ladder, Ash started descending as quickly as he could. The ladder rungs were old and rusty but if they held who ever had gone before him they should hold now. As he slid deeper into the dark he hoped he’d get to his friends in time to help.

From a position just a couple of steps behind the Samurai Ulthok watched Kenji try his best to hurl the iron javelins, but clearly he was a sword master, not a spear chucker. From his invisible safety he chuckled slightly. Suddenly the warrior turned swinging the spear he carried to face behind him. The small mage ducked, shifting in time to be missed by the iron tip. As Ulthok turned he saw that one of the bugs had flanked then and the Samurai had sensed it in time to thrust the spear into the attacking bug. Before Ulthok could raise his bow the now bleeding menace had retreat away from the stair.

The proud worrier let out a shout of success. Then from down the stairs came Cor’s voice, "Aye lad the normal weapons work! Forward everyone and remember to kill one creature before trying to get to another."

As the party started to surge up the stair Ulthok realized he’d better appear or risk getting stepped on. Releasing the rings power the Halfling appeared and turned to follow Kenji. Cresting the stair once again Cor’s voice chimed out as he and Conall followed into the room, "Kenji, Conall, Ulthok with me! Move up a bit and form a circle back to back."

Placing himself between Conall and Kenji the Mage raised his bow ready to use its speed to send iron into any of the creatures that dared to move on them. Shoulder to hip the Mage stood ready, he knew when the arrows were gone he had the iron blade to teach those bugs that mean things can come in small packages.
