Striding with purpose Tadirien led the small party up to the second to check the rooms. Tad wanted to learn more about the lovely Elven stranger and keep the “Knight of Rydor” from drinking the inn dry.
Siraya kept close to the Tad, he could sense she wanted to know more about the MV6 patrol, but she patiently bided her time. One by one they checked the rooms; the only rooms that had be occupied were those of MV6. The Knight of Rydor stood in the hall posturing like rooster guarding the hen house.
Tad had noticed that one of their group had not come down to the kitchen. Tariel was no where to be found and now Tad feared the worst. Cautiously he entered the room Tariel had shared Elesarae. The room empty, no bodies and property. Elessarae had left earlier take her things with her, but Tariel gear was also gone. Crossing the room Tad spotted a piece to paper on the dressing table. There in the flowing script of the written in the Sylvarian tongue,” Llie n'vanima ar' lle atara lanneina…Elessarae…. Lle naa haran e' nausalle….. Quel marth”. Tad knew it was left by Tariel.

“This needs to be taken to Danamar, all seems clear here, let us garther back in the common room.” Tad saw Siraya looking at the writing and slowly mouthing the sounds. It was becoming more clear to Tad that this Elven lady seemed to have lost the way of her people. “Ah, it says, “I have gone after Elessarae… I can not let her embark upon this journey along… I am sorry… Tariel Miriellee”.

With that Tad turned leading Siraya from room, them past Seb in the hall as Tad headed down to report their findings.

Finding Danamar, Tad handed him the note, “I fear our number has been reduced again, but this seeming by choice.”

“What will be our next assignment?”

Subject: Only one M1...

Doc wasn't issued a M1 so he took one from a dead guy, he only has one M1. He only took M1 ammo.

He was issued a .45 and took a second from the dead guy.

I'd say you all through all your GI stuff in the trunk and then got it all out with your German when we got to the Castle. Doc never took any of the German soldier's gear.

Subject: Fire sucks air.......

Well the fire will stir the air that will cause the cloud to breakup and ending it's affect. So gas first, then if that doesn't work then toast'em.

Also the spell spreads out from caster, it can be thrown over the fire wall. Area of Effect: 40 x 20 x 20 ft. The room is 150 x 100 so it will only cover a section.

Tann, can Ulthok cast a spell and enable his wand of light in the action? How close are we to the den?

Subject: The Orkin Man........

The doors are 50 feet high so the room is plenty high enough for the party to wait on the stairs while Ulthok runs the cloud kill for several rounds. The gas will stay down at ground level and flow into the den and rooms through the openings in the rotten doors.

If things get dicey then we can start the bar-b-que. But if Ulthok can clear the floor we can more safely check the rooms before we advance to the next level. There may be stuff in there we can use. What do you say? Are you game to try the poison gas first?

After Ulthok casts Cloud Kill he will pull out his wand of light to help the others to see. He can use his infravision to see enough for the spell casting.

Subject: Interigue?

Here's a plot thought.

Phelan, your character seems to have come from money and understand politics pretty well. Maybe we should use it. It looks like someone is planning some kind of political move. First one guys birthday party is messed with and now someone is messing with the Baron's big party, trying to make both lose face.

A quick message to the Baron's guy to tell him we are being delayed by Fed and then "suggest" this looks odd that the first Currier didn't show and now we are being held up by Feds, could be someone wanting the Baron to be not get his prize wine and look bad. Warnings can bring goodwill, use of story line and maybe plot points for our side.

I've been sitting on my lawn tractor mowing and I've been thinking about the story....maybe too much,lol.

Subject: Be careful playing with FIRE!

I'd think the fire could spread and cause us problems, I'm a bit gun shy with fire since the plant gas thing. It might create air turbulence that would affect Cloud Kill.

The poison gas would go into the den of the bugs and the rooms killing other things that are around ground level. With the party up on the stairs they would be out of the gas.

I'd thought of an lightening bolt to the swarm and den but that might shake the room too much.

One Colt M1911A1 (Greta) Doc took the extra Pistol so that he has two.

Two M1A1 Carbines w/ Folding Stock ?? Doc took one M1.

Two rifle pouches holding five magazines each (so ten in total) ?? Doc took the extra M1 ammo, as the guys switched to German weapons Doc loaded up on the GI ammo for his M1.

few match boxes, some candles, a bar of soap, a silver hip flask, and some iodine.?? Doc took these

I posted that Doc took an extra grenade from the car trunk and then gave that to Brutal, but that was assuming it was left with the GI equipment in the trunk when the other switched to German uniforms. If everyone kept their grenades then we'll just pretend that part of the post happened a little differently. Each of you had or have two grenades and Doc has one.

Remember the last time when we fried the plants? That worked really well, lol. So now we'll have flaming zombie bugs after us!!!

Maybe we could freeze them with Cone of Cold.

I had thought of having "Rope Trick" so everyone could escape to another plane temporarily and then use "cloud kill" if we had been attached by the slugs.

Here's the spell:

Cloudkill /
Range: 10 yds. Components: V, S
Duration: 1 rd./level Casting Time: 5

Area of Effect: 40 x 20 x 20 ft. cloud Saving Throw: None
This spell generates a billowing cloud of ghastly yellowish green vapors that is so toxic as to slay any creature with fewer than 4+1 Hit Dice, cause creatures with 4+1 to 5+1 Hit Dice to roll saving throws vs. poison with -4 penalties or be slain, and creatures with up to 6 Hit Dice (inclusive) to roll unmodified saving throws vs. poison or be slain. Holding one's breath has no effect on the lethality of the spell. Those above 6th level (or 6 Hit Dice) must leave the cloud immediately or suffer 1d10 points of poison damage each round while in the area of effect. The cloudkill moves away from the spellcaster at 10 feet per round, rolling along the surface of the ground. A moderate breeze causes it to alter course (roll for direction), but it does not move back toward its caster. A strong wind breaks it up in four rounds, and a greater wind force prevents the use of the spell. Very thick vegetation will disperse the cloud in two rounds. As the vapors are heavier than air, they sink to the lowest level of the land, even pouring down den or sinkhole openings; thus, the spell is ideal for slaying nests of giant ants, for example. It cannot penetrate liquids, nor can it be cast under water.

Pretty cool, huh!

I got so nervous waiting for Al to post. I'm feeling more and more comfortable in Asher skin, I just hope I can keep him alive.

I have to say it has been really difficult to go gunning after a girl. That is sooooooooo not the RL me. It may not seem it to all of you great writers, but Al can REALLY thrown the challenge to me. With Asher, Doc and Jon I'm pushing places I never been before. Thanks to all the groups for your support. YeOlde, guys have really helped me grow. Just goes to show you, you're never too old to learn.

Ok, so what's next?

Well do we abandon the Inn and move on to try and find out what is going on? I think we can figure it was the Dread that wiped out the town MV6 had been to before. Are we still headed there? Do we try to find a new Innkeeper or let Seb drink it dry,lol.

Subject: Medic!!!!!!!!!!!

The adrenalin had got Doc on his feet and out the door but now it was about worn off. The pain in his shoulder ravaged at him and he knew he was bleeding badly. Doc had dropped on his side in an attempt to loosen the med kit that he now had to use on himself. As the guns continued to roar near him Doc tried to stay out of way. When the guns silenced he heard a gruff voice, “Oh Sh** Doc!”

Brutal looked down and saw Doc’s face was ashen pale but he was still breathing. Blood was showing through the slashes in Jack’s combat jacket where the gargoyle talons had pierced. Remembering his basic first aid training Brutal rolled Doc on to his back and elevated his feet. Opening Doc jacket Brutal saw the deep gashes. He rummaged through the med kit grabbing a wad of gaze to compress over the wound to stem the bleeding. The pressure on the openings hurt like hell but Doc knew Jake was doing the right thing.

“Ok Doc… I’m no good here… I’m use to inflicting wounds not bandaging them…” he said with a faint grin… Doc started to open his mouth with a smart quip when Corbin stepped up.

The sniper‘s sharp eyes looked over wounds and saw that the talons has left debris. Corbin knew that needed to go, who knew what kind of funkiness it might cause.

Ok, Doc? You with me at all Doc? I could use any help you can give. You got some stuff in the wound, so we are going to have to clean it out a bit. If we can do that, we can bind it up. I'd really hate to have to do stitches out here. I'm going to clean what I can Doc. I’m going to need your kit."

Doc opened his eyes, “Oh geez, I didn’t you cared” he choked out. “There’s tan pouch in the kit, it’s got surgical stuff and there’s tweezers for the big chunks. Put water on a big bandage and rub the rest out.”

Corbin set to work cleaning the wound, he was rough as hell but Jack gritted teeth. With his free hand Doc searched the kit for couple of more items. When McGuinness had finished Doc looked down at his chest and saw that three gashes were still oozing blood freely.

“Well those need closed, at least at the deep end. “ Handing the items to Brutal, Doc said, “ Open these and thread that needle with the silk. Corbin, you pinch the end shut and I’ll sew it closed, but first shake a little sulfur in the hole before you pinch it.”

As Brutal tried the several time to hit the needles eye Greta came over, “You men are so good with shooting, but leave the fine work to me.” She took the silk and needle and in smooth deft motion she threaded, drew and knotted the silk. As Doc reached for the needle Greta glared down at him,”You lay still, I’ve sewn a person before, I had brothers that couldn’t seem to keep from falling out Grandfather’s trees.” Pushing Doc’s hand away Greta leaned in and blocked Jack view. “I’ll have to put two in each; I’ll be as quick as I can.”

With the same deft motion she used to thread the needle the lovely angle of mercy used the forceps to guide the needle through the flashy edges of wound and drawing the silk tight, pulling the gashed meat together. One, two… one, two…one,two….. as the last stitch was drawn tight and knotted, Greta let out the breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “There, that should hold them. If you have any disinfectant you need to clean it over those before you cover them.”

Doc released the clinched fists he’d held so tight to ward off the pain. It hadn’t worked. This wasn’t the first wounds Doc had taken so he was surprised. He let a breath too.

Reaching down to the lower pocket of his right leg, Jack pulled out a silver flask. Rolling the lid between his finger and thumb the top spun off and danged from a fine chain. Lifting it to his lips he took a quick sip and then poured several once out over the wound. The brandy seared as the alcohol soaked into the wound. “Closest I got to disinfectant”, he gasped. Jack held the flask out to Greta, “You make a fine Doc, please be my guest.” Greta took the flask, “Now bandage him up, you may need him later” she said, but Jack didn’t see if she took a drink.

Subject: "Nuts......................................."

"Nuts" Jon let out a sigh of frustration.

"Tess, power down!"

"Jason, acknowledge the hail and ask for instructions."

Hitting the ship com,"Folks we're getting company, meeting in the cargo bay....." the klaxon goes off again.. "what in the..."

Jon looks at the instrument panel and sees the alert of a second targeting signal.

Jon turn to Jason, "gimme that transmitter." Taking the transmitter from Jason, Jon hit the reply to Erikson, “Erikson, this is Destiny; we just got targeted by an unidentified source, what is going on? Are we under your protection?"


"Destiny. This is the Erikson. We don't..... Sorry stand by."

Noises in background of someone being slapped, once, twice and then a third time. The sensor on Destiny shows weapon lock disengaging and no longer on ship.

"My Apologies Destiny. The problem has been dealt with and you may rest assured that you are under our protection. (Voice behind the scene coming over the radio.) "Hudson!!!! What is your gorram problem! There are over 400 washrooms on this cruiser and you just volunteered to clean them all!"

Jon furrowed his eyebrows as Erikson’s open mike let out more than they intended. Keying up the link Jon replied.

“Marshal Sanders? Is that you? We are powering down and will be awaiting your arrival. We picked up rush delivery of wine for the Baron Otello’s yearly social on Osiris, so what ever we can do to cooperate please let us know.”

Closing the link Jon slapped the mike back into Jason’s hand,

Ta Ma Duh, why can’t things just go right once?”

“That overstuffed Marshal is up to something. I just let all of Erikson and the verse know this ain’t the first time he’s been dog’n us and that we ain’t hiddin nothing. I’m hope’n a little name drop’n won’t hurt neither.”

Keying the internal comm, "OK, everyone to the cargo bay, We're gonna play nice, but we don't know nuthin about nuthin. Don't let them wander by themselves if we can help it. Maybe we can get them off the boat before they cost us our payday."

Turning to Jason and Tess,“Alright, let’s get to the cargo bay, if he brings that same crew watch that buff belly Hudson, he may not be as stupid as he acts, but then it might not be an act.”

Subject: Ugh............

The logic to get close to wall seemed solid, the wall would interfere with the gargoyles wings and they’d have to keep more to the interior of the room, but these things defied natural aviary flight. The speed and movement was erratic and unpredictable.

Doc stood slowly, his M1 held tight to his right should as he kept firing at the blurs darting around room; he covered the Sarge as he moved toward the doors. A screaming squeal came from directly over head. The weight of a sledge hammer slammed down on Jack’s left shoulder buckling his knees with the downward force. Then a searing pain explodes through his chest as the talons of the gargoyle sunk into his flesh as the breast latched hold of him. In the same instant it reversed its flight back up toward the ceiling jerking him up off his feet in its desire to carry away this fleshy meal.

“Braaaaaackkkkkkk……..” the roar of a machine gun drifted behind him as the gargoyle head shattered from a flaming shower of hot lead. The upward movements turned into a free fall plummet as Jack and carcass of the gargoyle dropped the stone floor of the entry hall. The impact of hitting the floor broke the grip of the talons and Doc crumbled to a dazed pile on the floor. A hand grabbed his right arm that gripped his M1 and pulled him toward the door. Survival Instinct took over and Jack got his legs moving to carry him through the open entry doors.

Once outside the room things started to blur again as the shock and pain started to take their toll. Jack stumbled and dropped to the ground. The words of the group are garbeled, then a shout “Teleport” followed be more gun fire.
