Subject: Welcome......

Well it's a little late to give a towel, but here is one anyway. Getting that Eol drool off sometimes takes some effort.

Time to add the Ody welcome.

A really good place to start here is “Pit F(r)iend's epic guide to getting started for newbies.” That will help you figure out how to navigate the halls of the Inn.

To meet folks in real time pop into the DragonChat.

Here at the Inn I act as the current resident bartender in the common room. We offer our very own "Good Old Froth-n-Slosh", the stale pale ale that is so light it has the foam on the bottom.

Just grab a mug off the shelf and draw a cold frosty one.

My assistant Igor is usually lurking around if I'm not there.

He never says anything, must have something to do with having his tongue cut out by his last boss, that nasty bar tender over at the Angry Orc Bar & Grill.

I'll have him put out a plate of "Lady Fingers" in your honor.

Reminds me we need to have another "Ladies Night" and restock.

Anyway the “Posting Games” are great place to get to know folks and of course the DragonChat is our favorite lounge.

So lurk or play, welcome to the Inn

Subject: Slaughterhouse..........

Ash piloted the mule over the road to the town of Necessity. The landscape had the same look of somany places he’d seen before. But there was always something new or different if you just watched. Eagel Eye guided them into town and to a three-story building with no patio or veranda outside.

There is a large well-dressed man at the door who carrying a sidearm, who greets Eagle-Eye pleasantly as well as you when you approach and opens the door. Inside, the main floor consists of many tables and chairs, and a long bar area across the back. There hoste gave a quick lay of the land to them.

The bar was tended by a well dressed Asian man (Kim) who was on the fatty side of stout. The place had a lot people but it is not packed. The second floor hugs the exterior walls of the place and is open to the main floor from above. Access via two sets of stairs on either side of the building. The second floor is all tables and chairs, as far as you can see and according to your host, that is where the higher stake poker games happen. The third floor is Rancher Lodge only, and is a number of rooms that members can use for business or pleasure as they see fit.

“There be rules here, Kim don’t put up with trouble so don’t give any. You get one warning and then you are out. You are here on my word so I’d appreciate it if we kept things civilized.” He says and gives a smile to Wolf.” No fighting. Do not draw a weapon unless you hear a siren or someone yells, reavers… Women serve food and booze here - nothing else. You looking for company, the Honeydew will do ya. Oh, if you do here sirens, there a basement there,” He points to a trapdoor in the centre of the room. “Men head to doors and window and defend, women and young’un go to basement first, then we orderly retreat. If we breached, the door is sealed and we take care of each other – you catch my meaning.”

Eagle did not head to the second floor but toward a six-person table where four players were playing poker. They all followed behind, “Evening gentlemen,” he said as he approached and points to one of the empty chairs, “Where’s Ernest?”

The man dealing barked a laughed, “Oh he ain’t gonna here tonight. Got himself a woman that won’t say no so he is occupied.”

“Really? When did he meet her?”

“Recent hire of serving staff as I understand it. Apparently she likes to serve him more than dinner.” The other men at the table laugh and ante in.

“Oh. Well good for Ernest. He could use a little TLC. Or a lot. Either way gentlemen, this here is (introduces all who are there). This here is Dimitri, he’s a sheep wrangler.”

Dimitri, the dealer, nods and smiles, “Nice to meet you. Sheep wrangler is not as dirty as Eagle makes it sound.”

“This here is Giles, a cattle rancher.”

“Pleasure,” Giles replies doffing his bowler hat to reveal a balding head.

“This is Hiram. He ain’t a farmer but we let him hang out.”

“And I am so honoured by your letting me lose too. Evening.” Hiram stands and makes a point of shaking everyone’s hand.

“Enos – he owns the general store.”

Enos nods without saying anything.

And this is Jeremiah, another cattle rancher. We got a lot of them in these parts.

“Hello!” Jeremiah says like he has discovered a gold coin. His gaze is fixed directly on Fenris.

Eagle pats Wyatt on the shoulder and gestures slightly to the bar at a man in a tweed suit, sitting alone. “That there is Saul Potter. I can take you over to him if you like and introduce you – before we start a new hand. Or if you’d like to join the game – Ernest’s good fortune can be yours as well. We don’t play big money, we just like a social game. He is likely to be there all night. We can grab a couple of chairs if you boys want to join. The more the bigger the pot.”

As Eagle and Wyatt converse, Jeremiah gets up and walks over to Fenris. He is not a tall man but next to the Mechanic, he looks very small. “Excuse me sir! Would you like to fight? Not Me! I mean fight in a ring?” He turns to Eagle-Eye, “Is he a ranch hand with you?”

Eagle looks over to Jeremiah and then to Wolf. He laughs and reaches into his pocket and pulls out some platinum pieces and hands them to Wolf. “There you go. That is for the work on the fence this afternoon.” Then he looks at the shorter man, “He’s a hand now. Go to it. If you can convince him, I’d bet on him against Bart.”

“See we got a fight thing going on amongst our hands. Started friendly like, with small wagers and mostly bragging rights as to who had the best. Well her Governorship got involved and brought in this ringer – calls himself Black Bart. I know, original eh? Anyway, he’s big and mean and we ranchers really want to put him and Patience down a peg. Fight’s tomorrow – you interested? If Eagle says you can take Bart, I’ll give you 25 win or lose and 200 if you win. Patience is offering 10 to 1 against her man and 20 if you can knock him out. What you say? Easy money?”

Ash’s ears purked up when heard about fights, now that could fun, but it seemed Jeremiah was only interested in Wolf. Well maybe his chance would come. Ash hadn’t a good brawl since he’d left the farm.

The kid looked elsewhere in the tavern there and are at least three games going on, mostly ranch hands and locals if you were to guess by their clothing. Over at the bar, he noticed there is a beautiful auburn haired girl, voluptuous being the best word to describe her, straining the fabric of a Blue Sun t-shirt to its limit. But beside her is a big man in a similar t-shirt and overalls, talking to her and she ain’t having none of what he is saying. In fact, she is pouring shot after shot from a whiskey bottle and ignoring him completely. He is getting frustrated and puts his hand on hers, but she pulls back from him violently.

“Okay!” the Asian man behind the bar points his finger at the man, “You had your warning. Out!”

“But!” the man started to say.

“Out or I end you here! Go back to The Wreck, Hauler. You’ll be welcome there.”

“But she …”

“She ain’t bothering me. You are. Out! Now! Or be dragged out.”

The man slapped the bar with his hands hard and stomped off out of the bar. The young lady smiles a thank you to Kim and continued to work her way through the bottle.

The kid was hoping that the men would let him sit and watch the game. He knew some folk don’t like that, they figure you’re signaling their hands. But the kid really liked to watch their faces. So much can be learned from the small things people do. His pa and had done their best to teach him how to read a man’s eyes. Told him it could save life, so ever since he continued and poker games were great to guess a man’s thought. But first he needed something to drink.

The kid excused himself and stepped to the bar. As he stepped up Kim came over. “I see you're with Mr.Sarafina, what can I get for you?” The kid gave Kim a simple smile,”Well if you have any, I sure would like a tall glass of cold milk?”

The young lady at the bar looked up from her shot glass with an odd smirk on her face.

Well does the group want to try the dial puzzle? We can leave the dial behind untried or stash it in the bag of holding too to try later.

I have already posted last time leaving the room so for me my post is covered unless something happens that stops us from leaving the room.

Who wants to turn the dial? or do we stash it and travel on?

Hastily, Lum found a panel and began to rewire it to run a bypass. The first attempt did nothing except turn the lights off in the hallway. Nimbly he reconnected the last pair of wires in an attempt to turn the lights back on.

(assuming the lights are back on.)

The sounds of battle were coming from the closed room and Lum tried one more time to rearrange wires to open the medical room door. This time he looked to see if there was any symbol, such as one matching the one on the door, that might guide him to the proper circuits.

Ulthok and Sirene have used up their Burning Hands but Cor still has two in his ring. If we want to melt down the pedestal then Cor could do it and then Sirene could do her Legend Lore. Keeper can amend his post and there Sirene can post. We can back track a bit on Ulthok leading out of the room as it happened after we check the clock again.

BTW.. let me recommend that we all try to read each others character sheets to see if we find useful stuff. I forget we I have there sometimes and a reminder would be helpful as we move forward. You guys may see something and figure a good use that the owner may miss. I can use all the help I can get.

“Alyia should get first choice of the magic items, it was her spell. Although as a Fighter / Mage that wand would be a great asset for her…..Just my thoughts; Sirene would be most effective with the staff, she more spells to work it with…Lothor would be good with the whip….Rayne could use the ring of detection as a ranger / cleric….Cor would be good with the brooch… I claim none of these but I will put what is not chosen into the bag for use at another time.” With that Ulthok stood back and let the party claim as they would.

When the choosing was done he put the remains away for safe keeping. “Well with these and our other tools perhaps we will yet survive to see our own time again.

Ulthok then watched as Cor attempted to melt the ice from clock looking item. He waited as others again tried to identify the thing.

What ever doesn't get claimed will go into the bag of holding.

Looks to me like Lothor gets the whip. Ulthok already has a magic whip.

If i don't hear soon I'll just post that Ulthok distributed to items to those that showed interest and place the remainder in the bag of holding with the sward pieces and the stones.

Then you all can post what you claimed.

What about the stones and the sword?

I had Ulthok pull the table over by the clock so the spell would cover it too. Had the stones and broken sword parts put on table too.

Also I think Alyia should get first choice of the magic items, it was her spell. Although as a Fighter / Mage that wand would be a great asset for her.

Just my thoughts:
Sirene would be most effective with the staff, she more spells to work it with.

Lothor would be good with the whip.

Rayne could use the ring of detection as a ranger / cleric.

Cor would be good with the brooch.

Talca as a ranger would be good with the boots, but he has boots of speed.

Just my observations.

BTW, I had Ulthok thaw the chest then the pedistol and then the Wizard, but I'll roll with what you've written.

Asher lay on his bunk and uncrumpled the piece of paper he found laying the corner of the galley. He’d served Sam the bill fair and legal like, but Sam had treated it like a joke. The kid remember what his brother Ben used tell him when told Ben he’d owed him, “Well Di-Di I’m gon’na put that on account because I’d rather owe it to you than cheat you out of it.” The memory made Ash smile. “Well Sam let’s just see how long it takes to get this square.” Looking around his room at the locked weapons cabinets he chuckled at the thought of Sam trying to boost his guns now.

Ash had spent more time working with Fenris then he did with Sam. The kid’s interest in helping keep the Roc flying was as now strong as it was when he bugged Kora to teach him. With all the new upgrades there was so much more to learn. Fenris was pretty tolerant but he let Ash know that when they were in the engine room his word was law. Ash was good with it.

The jobs had grown thin and there wasn’t much funds to keep them in fresh like vittles so when Fenris’s friend offer up to have them join the meal at his ranch Ash was more than ready. He could the meat frying as they walked to the ranch house. Mr. Sarafina had ushered them into the line so the kid had grabbed a tray and stepped up.

As he moved down the line he nodded to everything that was offered, with a polite, ”Thank you ma’m”. He heard the ladies start to laugh as the pile of food grew. “My but he has a health appetite..I guess it should give him stamina.”

One of the younger girls nudged another, ”I wouldn’t mind testing that thought.” They giggled as Ash looked up and smiled.

When Ash got to end of they handed his mug of beer, “Thank you..but would have a glass of milk?” The giggles rolled out again. “Sure..it’s over there at the kids table.” Ash look over to the little ones gathered, “Well I reckon they need it more than me, I’ll take water, if I might.” “There’s a pitcher on the table and glass at the place.”

Ash made his way to table and found an open spot. The ranch hands chuckled at the sight of his pile of food. He smiled, nodded and dove it. He could swear he heard a few of the hands taking bets on if he’d finish it all. Then the bets changed to how soon.

The crew sat with the workers and close to Eagle Eye at the long tables. Once some food was consumed and drinks were being enjoyed as some contemplated seconds, Wyatt decided it was time to broach a topic.

“Eagle Eye,” the Captain drawled, drawing Sarafina’s gaze, “Thank you, on behalf of me an’ my crew, fer the meal an’ company. Can’t properly say how nice it is t’ get some authentic grub in the belly, but it’s been real shiny…”

“Heh,” Sam chuffed around a chicken leg, “I c’n ruttin’ improperly say if’n ya want.”

“Hell Captain, if you been feeding Wolf here protein paste, I say it’s agreeing with him. I swear he’s double in size since the last I saw him. What are you lifting now Wolf? The ship?” Eagle Eye responds with a finger pointed at the mechanic.

“I don’t mean t’ sway conversation away from pleasantries, but there ain’t no rest fer the wicked an’… well… Roc’s hold is now bereft o’ yer bees. You wouldn’t know, by chance, o’ no one lookin’ fer passage fer themselves’r some cargo, would ya?”

“I’d cotton ta anythin’ ‘cept bees,” Dash added, offhand, before lifting a mug of beer, “Those li’l wong bah duhn bunched me up an’ made m’ pi guh pucker…”

Eagle-Eye smiled and stretched, “Well Captain, I’d pay a sure pretty penny or two if you’d take our dear governor away in a burlap sack and dumped her somewhere where she might be appreciated more – like Higgin’s Moon!” The comment brought a round of laughter from the table as well as a few not so polite suggestions of what else you could do with Patience. “But that would be more work than I could truly pay you for. I’m not sure to be honest with you Captain. I have nothing that needs moving right now. But why don’t you and a some of your crew come with me to the Slaughterhouse tonight? It is a Rancher Lodge Tavern – Patience and her ilk ain’t welcome. But there will be a number of ranchers there and I can make some introductions if you’d like. There is usually a card game going on if you’d like to join.”

“As well, further in town there’s a place called the Wreckage, which is where the salvage haulers hang out. They tend to be a close-knit bunch but you might pick up a smaller load that the Haulers don’t want to waste fuel on. There is also the Co-Op store – Eugene might have a shipment needing a lift planet-side if you willing, or a pickup of goods.”

The older Lady spoke up, “Mr. Sarafina. What about Mr. Potter? Did you not mention him the other day?”

Eagle-Eye smiled and snapped his fingers, “Right! Right! Thank you Mrs. Wilson. Well, I ain’t sure you’ll be interested but there is a fella hanging around for some time now, looking for a ship. Passenger and cargo he says but he ain’t forthcoming on the details. His name is Potter, Paul? No, Saul, Saul Potter! Well dressed and very polite but I get the feeling he might be doing something underhanded. But what do I know? I really wasn’t paying him much mind as I don’t have a ship to fill. He’ll be usually around the Slaughterhouse at nights – I think he tried the Wreck but salvagers don’t like passengers – ask too many questions.”

Wyatt turns to Sam, Asher, Jade, and Wolf. “The lot o’ you interested in joining me at the Slaughterhouse tonight? We’re keepin’ our noses clean here, so don’t go seekin’ no trouble. I hear tell that Patience is some pofù an’ we’ve precious li’l clout nowadays as is. Don’ need no gov’nuh makin’ life more difficult than it already is.”

Between bites the kid nodded an affirmative.

Ulthok drug the table over by the strange looking clock thing. He then placed all the items he found on Scandrick's body on the table including the stones from the chest and sword pieces from the other room.

"If one of you has the spell Identify prepared please cast it over these items including the clock. The magic they hold and service they can provide may indeed be useful. Any advantage we can gain may well help us survive. Talca had witnessed some of their use but we still need to know how to work them our selves. Without the Wizard himself to provide aid we should extend his legacy and use them as he may have. If they are not of sufficient use now then we can retain them for a time when we may have a need."

The halfling stepped back and Peri perched upon his should."Maybe one will make an apple pie...its been so long since I've had a pie."

That's a cool set of maps but they are different than the ones in "unoff_srpg_sourcebook".

This Arc book has Ezra and Athens (with Whitefall)in the same system (Georgia).

The unoff_srpg_sourcebook has Athens in the outer system near Miranda which would the "Blue Sun" system in the Arc book.

So which maps would be best for us?

Stardate 2365.02.11 (Thursday - 42143.8 )
USS Peregrine; Shuttle Sierra One – 11:10

There are five beings in burnt and damaged clothing of simple make. Tunics of varying shades and earthen hues worn over breeches and knee-high boots. By clothing alone the beings are unidentifiable. There’s no hiding the skin tone though. Orange to reddish brick in color with a ridged heads that are partially bald and varying lighter colors of singed hair, these are definitely Rytaini. Reid realizes that Captain’s guess had been right and now they had the proof. Only after an interigation would they find the “Why” behind the sneak attack.

“Life signs are stable,” Toriak frowns. “Except for one. Sir, I need to drop the force field to save this man’s life.”

The bodies laying in front of them appeared to be no threat. “Drop the shields.”

When the order comes through hot on the heels of Toriak’s request, the force field is dropped. Security stand at ready, pulse rifles held to at the ready, unsure of how to handle the captives’ actions. Nurse Toriak immediately slips past the barrel of a rifle and drops next to the motionless Rytainian, medical tricorder in hand.

“Do not move!” one of the security personnel growls, but Toriak isn’t paying attention as to who.

Scanning the prisoner, Crewman Toriak keeps the frown on his face. The results aren’t promising. Brain damage and multiple internal hemorrhages have already killed the man. If they were back on the Peregrine, there might be a chance of reviving the terrorist, but here…? Not a chance.

“Drop it!” Another voice yells and there’s commotion all about Toriak as the security personnel take action.

“Crewman Toriak to the Peregrine. Lock onto my signal and transport one Rytaini immediately to sickbay.”
Their first moves looked as if they were reaching for weapons. John and nurse Toriak realized there was something else as the Rytainians pulled pills from the belts as muttered, “For strength and honor!”.
But John was caught off guard when to rescued crew of the Stormspike started taking their own lives. He had prepared to put down a fanatical suicide squad but not a fanatical squad suicide.

“Stop them…don’t let them swallow those things.”

PO Tolaris turns in his chair to watch the drama unfold and see if he needs to participate in the mayhem. Charred and injured, the Rytainian terrorists producing small, white pills from their belts and are rapidly placing them in their mouths, chewing, and swallowing. Gold shirted crewmen fire weapons set to stun, others just leap forward and try to manually pry the pills from the aliens’ mouths. Toriak’s transporter request activates around the body of the Rytaini directly in front of him adding to the swirl of motion.

“This one is foaming at the mouth!”

“Here, too!”

Scrambling past the place where the body recently vanished, Toriak retrieves from his flailing bag a physiostimulator, placing it on the convulsing chest of the nearest prisoner while scanning with his medical tricorder. He can see the others thrashing about as the drug they’ve ingested takes effect, but is helpless to stop the results. The physiostimulator activates and the body jerks more violently, back arching against the charge only to drop to the floor once more. The Rytainian’s eyes roll back into his skull and his head twists with such violence that the Vulcan can hear the snapping of the man’s neck. Returning to his bag, Toriak retrieves another device and like an entertainer at a table, swiftly replaces the physiostimulator with the protodynoplaser. He drops the tricorder and uses his left hand to hold the shoulder down while he runs the protodynoplaser across the dying man’s throat. The device’s chirping grows louder.

“This one’s gone,” a worried voice reports.

“We’ve lost another.”

“Stunning them did nothing to stop the spread of that poison,” PO Tolaris’ calm voice reports.

“It is a very concentrated dose delivered through nanotechnology that shoots through the system at an accelerated pace,” Toriak replies, dropping back on his haunches and allowing his hands to fall into his lap. “This one is dead as well. There was nothing I could do.”

“The transporter did not show the pills as dangerous. Interesting.” Tolaris returns to his console to study the report.

“It likely wouldn’t,” Toriak begins putting his tools away. “The tricorder shows that this blend of chemicals is biological and specifically designed to work with the Rytainian biology. As there were no Rytaini aboard this vessel at the time of the transport, the computer would not have quarantined the pills.”

“Well,” Megan coughs. “As excitin’ as tha’ was, I’m showin’ the Coronado movin’ int’ attack position. Yer orders, sir?”

“First we have to get the video of the transport to Lt. Berk.”

Tapping his comm. badge, “Reid to Berk..stand by for a video transmission. The crew of the Stormspike were Rytains.. the video and the transported Rytain to sickbay will prove it…..Sir if you can get it to the Coronado it should change their minds…in the mean time we are putting ourselves between them and the our nearest Kuldar vessel”

John glanced over to Megan, her eye brows raised and a surprised look on her face. “Oh… yeah..it’s time for us to be the big damn heroes. We may not be much but we are Federation and the Coronado will have to think hard to justify swatting us away. …Petty Officer take defensive position between the Coronado and that Kuldar vessel ………..get us in harms way…..I just hope the Kuldar don’t decide fire first…especially at us.”

Megan let out a loud sigh, “Big damn heroes?.....well I remember playing that game at NCO school, so…hold on..we may experience some slight turbulence … then explode.”

Nurse Toriak frowns, “Shinny.”

Reid looked at both and smiled…”If we get back in one piece do I ever have a hologame for you.”

I's been a tough two weeks at work. Been very brain fried. I'll try to post John sending Berk the video of the transport to show the folks popping the pills and to the race of the Stromspike crew.
