Well there did seem to be some things worthwhile in the search.

Maybe Eol can clear it with Tann to identify some of items, his character may have seen them used. That would save some time not needed to meditate to discover what they are.

Too bad the book was ruined but the stones are interesting.

Any ideas what to do about the clock?

Subject: Items Of Use.......

Before leaving the first iced room Ulthok had placed the broken sword pieces in his bag of holding. It seemed to him that if the pieces were important enough to save in the chest then they may be of some value to them later. As it had been with gems from the skull the true value of items found may be in what they can do and not what they may be worth.

Leading the party once again through the frozen hall Ulthok found three more room but only the last seemed of any consequence. The room was different containing in its interior a small pedestal on which rested a large wheel of stone. The stone could be seen under its thick ice coating to be crafted of limestone with various symbols engraved around an etched carving of the sun. Being three feet across and equally round the pedestal and wheel were raised to a height of five feet. Also within the room, much like the rooms before, a small oak table lies toppled upon its side, a number of ice crushed chairs around it, a chest in the corner, and a frozen body laying upon the floor. Talca entered the room behind Ulthok, "It was here," he muttered, "This is where it ended."

The Halfling felt there were things here too that may be value. "I see Sirene is casting some sort of detection so she will warn us if there is emanate danger, but this room must be thawed also. We need to see what is in the chest and the writings on that pedestal. This man here on the floor cannot be saved but I will search him for items that may aid us though they failed him. We cannot waste time as we did before so please stand back."

With that Ulthok stepped toward the back of the room and cast Burning Hands. The spread of flames lept from his finger tips as he fanned them over ice covered chest. He then proceeded to the pedestal melting away the frozen layers to reveal the writings. Lastly he carefully moved the flames over the fallen Scandrick. Ulthok took great care suspecting there may be items of magic, Scandrick's spell book alone could be of great use. When ice had flowed away he ended the spell and quickly cast the cantrip Dry to preserve the item on the body. With the corpse finally exposed Ulthok carefully searched.

The crew got to Eagle-Eye's place but did we take our mule?
It seats four so there had to be other transportation.

I bring this up because I was going to have Asher try to get some food to take back for Ma. He could store it on the mule.

Subject: Time..........

Over the six months after Sam's return life on the Roc seemed to regain an old sense of normal. Asher was glad to have Sam back, but as with all things time changes people. The loss the kid felt when Sam left was nearly as painful as the loss he felt for his brothers Matt, Ben, Jacob and Andy. Sam wasn't dead but Asher had never expected to see him again.

The kid did his best to act like things were the same, but they weren't. Ash was starting to realize that he couldn't make Sam be Matt or Ben or Jacob or Andy..Sam was just Sam. So it was time to let go of Ghuh-Ghuh and accept Sam as an equal. So one evening after the crew meal Asher slid a piece of paper across the table to Sam. "Sam..I'm glad to have you back and you're as safe here as your gonna get..so it's time for settle'n and squaring things away." As kid got up and walked back to help Ma clean up Sam unfolded and read the paper.

Sam Dash owes Asher Talhone the rightly sum of 220 credits for appropriating of weapons from Asher Talhone's personal property as showed below:

1 xJC39 Assault Rifle & Shotgun (75c)
3 x Magazines of Rifle Ammo (150 bullets) ( 6c)
3 x Cases of Rifle Ammo (300 bullets/ (12c)
4 x Magazines of Shotgun Ammo (24 shells/ (1c)
5 x Boxes of Shotgun Ammo (120 shells/ (5c)

1 x PK12 Peacekeeper Pistols (60c)
8 x Magazines of Ammo (96 bullets/ (4c)
5 x Boxes of Ammo (240 bullets/ (10c)

1 x Colt .22 ST Pistol (20c)
3 x Magazines of Ammo (24 bullets/ (1c)
1 x Box of Ammo (48 bullets/ (2c)

1 Box Flashbang Grenades (6 grenades/ (12c)
1 Box Smoke Grenades (6 grenades/ (12c)
-------
Total (220c)

This account of Sam Dash is to be paid back in full or in payments in a just and timely fashion.

Happy Father's Day to all you open wallets.

I just had a GREAT time with son's and their girl friends. Of course I got the bill, but hey it's the thought.

Just gave myself a swell $130 party.

But it was worth it. I love them so dearly.

Blessing to all you Dads.

Subject: Endure Cold.........

Has the party been covered with the Endure Cold spell?

Ulthok was going to ask Talca to join him leading the party through the hall, but wanted to be sure he won't freeze.

Did we do that way back before moving down the stairs?
==========================================

Ok.. well we seem to have gotten this Endure spell thing a bit confused. Back on page 258 we indicated that the spells were cast, but then later at the pool room Cor cast it on Ulthok so he could search the room. Due to the New Year Holiday time lags we seem to have got stuff a bit mixed up.

We need to straighten this out now before we get in combat. Below is Tann's post that would indicate we did have the Endure Cold Spell cast. Later Sirene cast the spell to make the warmth bubble which was keeping everyone from taking continuous minor cold damage.

First Post 2017
With the trap door leading to the 2nd level closed and the room's temperature once more bearable the group of eight relaxed. Clear it was to them to venture down its stairs meant finding a way or ways to stay heated. Lacking any real winter attire the only solution lay in magic and to that end a few spells were needed. The main one as agreed by all being that of the spell Endure.

With the party's clerics having no choice but to sleep and once more pray for new spells the eight spread out their bedrolls and started to rest themselves. Sirene wanting to gain more insight into the stone coffins before them took a moment and cast Legend Lore upon them. As she listened she gained nothing but a sense of old age, perhaps 70-100 years old. No threat of danger, no riddle of time, or a puzzle to solve, the creation of stone before her quiet. Moving back to her bedroll she joined the rest in slumber.

The period of resting quiet, even without a guard rotation set, the cleric's, mages, and the fighters found themselves all well rested and ready to start the journey downward. Casting the needed spells on one another and dressing as warmly as possible Ulthok gathered the two gems and approached the trap door.

The Halfling Mage/Thief once more placed the gems within the two key slots and turned them to the right to open.. Nothing... A quick turn back left and a second turn to the right once more came up empty, the trap door remaining in place...

Tann, this may have to be a GM call based on these posts. Protection against cold for now is a major game item and we need to be very clear on how it stands before continuing posts.

Cor addressed the group, "Gather yer things and lets get going. Knowing there may be a beholder kin does nae change our focus. For all we know it is long dead but that is probably wishful thinking." Ulthok agreed it was time to move on.

"But if we are going to be fighting in this cold you'd best cast that Endure Cold on the rest of the party, there may not be time later."

Moving to the door he past Valene and touched her shoulder, "He right.. it's time to move on." As he stepped out the standing water and into the hall he cast a cantrip of dry on himself to drive the water out of his boot; wet feet on a frozen hall floor would not be fun.

As the others followed still protected by Sirene's spell or Cor's Endure he also dried their feet too.

Subject: Check Back..........

The Endue cold spell is a cleric spell. Cor has several and I believe cast on himself and Ulthok when we got to the chamber.

If I read correctly his last 22 hours (1 1/2 hour per level of caster) which we have used about 6. I'd say now is a good time to be sure everyone has it cast on them. Because of the bitter cold we will take 1hp of cold damage every hour if outside of Sirene's current spell. Seems to me we did an account of the spell before entering the stairway and there was enough to cover everyone including Peri, that was part of that rest and study period, need to figure there wasat least one extra for emergency that is available for Talca.

We will likely be seeing combat action soon so best to prepare now. I'll have Ulthok dry himself before entering the hall and then as folks step out of the water left in the room he, Sirene and Alyia can dry the party members. Best to avoid any chace to freezing our feet to the fool.

As Cor is the "Official" party leader he would be the one to inform the ranger of our purpose. I will post as if that has been done but won't refer to specifics until after Keeper's post with the details of how much he tells Talca.

The melting of the ice was a slow process. Ulthok decided to search the room and the chest. After checking the nooks and cranies or the room he pulled the chest out of the way of the rising waters. After checking it for traps he opened it.

(O.O.C..I changed what I had here earlier because Tann let me know we didn't have enough rest time to refresh any spells.)

I'll post a bit before we move out and it is too late.

Sort of still waiting for Eol to do bit of in story post of telling the party what happened to him and about the Beholder. Then we can follow up with our story to him on why we are there. That then set the stage for us to leaving room. Outside of that it would need to be Tann doing the DM to fill that gap as he can do it in story.

As of now when we leave Ulthok will cast the dry cantrip on himself to dry his feet. Once in the hall He, Sirene and Alyia can cast it each as they leave the room so we all have dry feet.

I have to believe Ulthok still has his Endure Cold active. Tann let me know if and when he needs it refreshed, I'm not of the duration.

Outside in the hallway, Lum hears the loud slam of the doors and sees through the glass the approach of the bots and his friends trapped behind the doors.

The big man rushes over to the glass door and is about smash through with his great axe. But something seemed to remind him about medical containment areas. They could self clean to remove bio hazards and that cleaning could harm his friends.

Lowering his axe he search walls, floor and ceiling for an access panel that might hold the controls and relays to the doors. He also looked for cameras and sensors that might trigger other evens.

If he could just open the doors as a normal function then the bio cleaning may not be triggered. If he found nothing then it may be worth the risk to try and smash through.

I had asked the group if anyone took time to study more spells during the wait to melt the ice. Is anyone going to remove he water from the room. Alyia, Ulthok and Sirene could all do the "Dry" cantrips on folks once we are in the hall to remove the water from the boot so they don't freeze to the floor.

Also we will need to have the Endure Cold Spells cast on the party member before we enter combat so we don't die from the cold if Sirene loses he spell that is creating the safe zone.
===========================
As for the Beholder here is an interesting item from the Manual.
Beholders and beholder-kin are usually solitary creatures, but there are reports of large communities of them surviving deep beneath the earth and in the void between the stars, under the dominion of hive mothers.

I could guess that what was burrowing in the other hall may have opened a pocket that held the Beholder. This one being the most extreme of these creatures are called beholder abominations.

We need to think about how to handle these creatures.

Lookup what ever you can find.
