I really do like Rogers maps. They are a great source of information. And I think I have only been pun.....ished a little for my jabs. But hey if I didn't he would think something was wrong.

BTW I am out of town on business and will try to post by the weekend. Just have my phone.

Would still like to know about the heavy blaster. I was intending to have Lum use that or his side arm blaster. I had also thought of having him crawl up the pile and blast the ones coming from the other side. But I don't want to blow a hole in the floor if it is that powerful.

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A
Subject: Maybe A Bit Harsh........

Well remember this game is based on AD&D 2.0 but it does have the DM's house rules too.

Yes I think the cold damage for this brief exposure might be a bit extreme but that's Tann's rules.

I found this as part of 3.5 rulings on cold to use as a reference.

Cold Dangers

Cold and exposure deal nonlethal damage to the victim. This nonlethal damage cannot be recovered until the character gets out of the cold and warms up again. Once a character is rendered unconscious through the accumulation of nonlethal damage, the cold and exposure begins to deal lethal damage at the same rate.

An unprotected character in cold weather (below 40° F) must make a Fortitude save each hour (DC 15, + 1 per previous check) or take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. A character who has the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and may be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well.

In conditions of severe cold or exposure (below 0° F), an unprotected character must make a Fortitude save once every 10 minutes (DC 15, +1 per previous check), taking 1d6 points of nonlethal damage on each failed save. A character who has the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and may be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well. Characters wearing winter clothing only need check once per hour for cold and exposure damage.

Extreme cold (below -20° F) deals 1d6 points of lethal damage per minute (no save). In addition, a character must make a Fortitude save (DC 15, +1 per previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage.

Remember we were dressed more for the forest or jungle so basically we were unprotected from the cold so we took max damage.

So if it took 2 minutes to close the door that is 2d6= 12. Then with the room zapped down to the sub freezing temp the Wall of Fire "could" take another two minutes to warm up the room beyound the damage level. So another 12 if the rule held to the original damage roll for each round.

In any case I would guess that the cold is not below -31. Tann is usually pretty fair in give an opportunity to find a solution so the Endure spell should work. We also should put on additional clothes or wrap up like Valene.

If a couple of Fire Elementals were called up, one to walk in fornt and one in back, as we go down the stair they would warm the passage to help keep the cold from getting too extreme. Once we find the source of the cold we can figure a way to end or block it.

Ulthok was at first pleased that the placing of the gems started to open a door way to the next level. But to his dismay as the door expanded a harsh unbearable cold rushed in to fill the room. The passage was to a horribly freezing place. Unprepared to travel in such a hostile atmosphere the party was taking harm from the freezing cold.

In nearly a reflex action the Halfling mage grabbed the gems again and pulled them from the key ways. Ulthok could only hope this would close the opening and shut out the cold.

He also hoped others would act quickly to warm the room so perhaps to stave off any more harm from the freezing cold. If nothing happened to close the door they must quickly retreat back to the central room.

As he pulled the gems out he called back, "If the door does not close flee back up the passage."

Subject: Good Idea...

Good ideas, here is the Endure spell. The cleric can cast one on each of us but we'll need to allow them to collect enough for each of so closing the door needs done.

We really need warmer clothes too.

The creature receiving this spell is protected from normal extremes of cold or heat (depending on which application the priest selects at the time of casting). The creature can stand unprotected in temperatures as low as -30 F. or as high as 130 F. (depending on application) with no ill effect. Temperatures beyond these limits inflict 1 point of damage per hour of exposure for every degree beyond the limit. The spell is immediately cancelled if the recipient is affected by any non-normal heat or cold, such as magic, breath weapons, and so on. The cancellation occurs regardless of the application and regardless of whether a heat or cold effect hits the character (for example, an endure cold spell is cancelled by magical heat or fire as well as by magical cold). The recipient of the spell does not suffer the first 10 points of damage (after any applicable saving throws) from the heat or cold during the round in which the spell is broken. The spell ends instantly if either resist fire or resist cold is cast upon the recipient.

That's a real option, but seeing that the rooms can change it may take a while to find it again.

If Ulthok can close the door and someone warms the room we could heal and redo our spells and search the room more any clothing in here. Then replace the gems and head down the stairs. A fire elemental in front and behind could help keep the space between warm as we go down.

I was planning to to have Ulthok pull out the gems and see what happens.

As Tann said this is not magic cold but natural cold, like opening a door to the outside in the arctic.

We could go back and search more rooms for warmer clothes and keep trying to get back to this room. But will take time and we may get into more battles.

Well I am guessing that a wall of force only stops solid matter. Air, heat, cold, light can pass through.

A wall of fire will warm us but it can't travel with us.

Now a Fire Elemental could travel with us and my be give some heat.

We need warm clothing or elemental protection from cold.

If Ulthok pulls the stones out then the door may close allowing us time to warm up and maybe figure out how to dress warmer. Maybe a Fire elemental would warm the room.

Are there any fire extinguishers or fire hoses near? A shot of wet might cause power shorting or mess up optic sensors to hamper targeting.

If they are using thermal sensors then CO2 blast in front of them would block our heat for a few moments.

Maybe a big pile of dust to cover optics might work too.

Topic: Trilogy War Q/A
Subject: Wall of Force...........

Here is the spell and it looks like it can hold back the cold.

A wall of force spell creates an invisible barrier in the locale desired by the caster, up to the spell's range. The wall of force cannot move and is totally unaffected by most spells, including dispel magic. However, a disintegrate spell will immediately destroy it, as will a rod of cancellation or a sphere of annihilation. Likewise, the wall of force is not affected by blows, missiles, cold, heat, electricity, etc. Spells and breath weapons cannot pass through it in either direction, although dimension door, teleport, and similar effects can bypass the barrier.

The wizard can, if desired, form the wall into a spherical shape with a radius of up to 1 foot per level or an open hemispherical shape with a radius of 1.5 feet per caster level. The wall of force must be continuous and unbroken when formed; if its surface is broken by any object or creature, the spell fails. The caster can end the spell on command.

Not so sure the fire will work. Let me know what all of you think?

Wall of Fire........

The wall of fire spell brings forth an immobile, blazing curtain of magical fire of shimmering color--violet or reddish blue. The spell creates either an opaque sheet of flame up to one 20-foot square per level of the spellcaster, or a ring with a radius of up to 10 feet + 5 feet per two levels of experience of the wizard. In either form, the wall of fire is 20 feet high.

The wall of fire must be cast so that it is vertical with respect to the caster. One side of the wall, selected by the caster, sends forth waves of heat, inflicting 2d4 points of damage upon creatures within 10 feet and 1d4 points of damage upon those within 20 feet. In addition, the wall inflicts 2d6 points of damage, plus 1 point of damage per level of the spellcaster, upon any creature passing through it. Creatures especially subject to fire may take additional damage, and undead always take twice normal damage. Note that attempting to catch a moving creature with a newly-created wall of fire is difficult; a successful saving throw enables the creature to avoid the wall, while its rate and direction of movement determine which side of the created wall it is on. The wall of fire lasts as long as the wizard concentrates on maintaining it, or one round per level of experience of the wizard, in the event he does not wish to concentrate upon it.

I don't see where any of us have that prepared. We would need time to do that. Have to read if wall of force can keep out the cold.

I'm willing to have Ulthok try to remove the gems to close the door.
