Subject: Warm Metal.........

There is a Warm Metal spell that can be cast on the doors we want to open. That should melt the ice and allow us to open that set of door.

Also rereading Tann's notes he is implying we did not expressly say we have an Endure spell cast on each of us. So don't venture off from Sirene without asking to have that spell cast on you.

Cor should check the water before he jumps in, if he plans to jump in. It could be the source of the minus 40 temp, might be a bit of a system shock.

It is minus 40 in the room so if we don't search as a group around Sirene in her warmth spell bubble we will take a little bit of damage. So if you venture away scurry back as long as the spell lasts.

I plan to have Peri stay close to Sirene.

Subject: Sorry...............

RL got real tough at work for me recently so I'm sorry about not being around so much. We need to post searching the room so we can get more info from Tann. To exit the room we have four choices. To go back up the slippery stairs, to figure how to open a door (two choices) and pass through or to go through the water to see if it leads somewhere.

If we wish to check the water I believe Cor can do that as of his magic thing that says he doesn't need to eat or breath. Is there anyone with something that allows underwater breathing so at least it is a team?

The doors will take some study and a choice made from the answers we get from Tann.

We may find something else in the search that was not obvious enough for Tann to tell us in his post of this room.

We still have not found what is causing the cold. If the door for the room to the stair was a portal to a distant cold region Tann would have told us that, I hope, because of the searching Sirene did should have discovered its magic. Tann said the cold is natural, not magic, so it makes sense to go to a cold region of the world.

Ok, there is some food for posts, we need intel to decide our next major move.

Tann, how about a room drawing?

How about a quickie map or area layout. Sort of give us the relationship of the stairs, the doors and the pool.

Is the pool water warm? Can we see steam? If this is such a minus 40 degrees cold area there must be something keeping the pool fluid. Is the pool salt water? You said it looks like a bath, is it sculpted / built or a natural pool?

How thick is the ice on the iron doors? Are the doors taller than the pillars? How wide are the doors? Do the doors look like they have a lock? Do the doors look like they swing in or out?

I'll think of more later.

With the loss of pasts notes and posts before I'll search my records too to find when Ulthok received the gantlets.

As for the for the Necklace,we'll find a better user.
So far I found he had them during his fight with Howler in the Well Room to help him hang on. I'll keep moving back.
Maybe getting closer. I had written he had them when they were going to battle the Goblins, just before he got his face frozen.
I have a 5/25/2015 copy of the Character page from here, with Avatars, and the Gantlets are on that list. I'll email it to you. Not sure why your current list has it missing.

I had PM from her back on the 13th. She said work was busy. I just sent off another PM to see she can get a least a short post up.

BTW Ulthok has that Necklace of Superior Curing. We did not define what curing was in it. I'd like to say it has 2 Cure Moderate and 3 cure Critical wounds stored because it can have up to 5 curing spells, but not any Heal. Will you allow these to be available to him? This can only be worn by a non cleric.

USS Peregrine; Deck 5, Gym - 1805

John steadied himself from the well placed counter from of his red haired opponent. The man gave him a sly smile as he answered, "I've a good teacher", then lashed out with a quick spin and a shoulder strike.

John responded with a swinging defense that deflected the income staff. Using the momentum he twisted the defense to an attack landing a stinging thump to the thigh. The sting must have inspired the man as they now engaged in a vigorous sparring match. The two glided in a agilely series of attacks and faints. John winced as a blow glanced off his own thigh.

With another burst of energy he pressed the attack. Sweat now coating his arms and forehead he drove forward.

Breathing controlled and pulse running rapid John force the man to backpedal. Driving in he stepped into a shoulder blow as the bearded Scot let his staff extend out with a two handed reach.

But the attempt to try move backward and forward at the same time threw him off his center of balance. Falling to the mat, butt first, his advisory sat on the ground breaking into a deep rolling laugh.

John walked over to the man and sat beside him. "That was fun, I thank you for the work out,. I guess I should introduce myself",. Extending his hand in a traditional hand shake, "I'm Lt. John Reed, Assistant Chief Tactical Officer,,yeah,I'm with security."

Ulthok nearly chuckled when he heard Peri discover the door may be stuck.

"Ok, I'll lend a hand." His Gauntlets of Ogre Power would give the Halfling the additional strength to help the other party members move the door.

When the door was slid open enough for Ulthok to pass he quickly checked the entrance and the passage beyond for traps or triggers.

(If he finds it clear he'll signal the party to follow so the door can be replace to prevent the cold from freezing the tower. If he finds it unlit he will use his Wand of Illumination to light the passage.)

Subject: Open Says Me...

Well my minds eye saw the door as swinging up to open and slamming down to close.

So I'd say the door is lifted, the party scrambles in and then it is lowered back into place. But we may need to try first to see how Tann says it works. It could have no pivoting and needs to be muscled aside. We have to try something first to find out. Ulthok has his ogre strength, he just can't lift very high.

We need to have healing spells cast too, no one said they case any healing on anyone.

Peri watched as Ulthok seemed to become concerned and maybe even angry when the door did not open again. They had planned so well and this was such a disappointment.

Flying up closer to the stone structure something didn't seem correct. As she stared at the lines of the door she noticed that it just a slight bit crooked.

"Look here... the door didn't close completely. It's a bit ajar. Maybe it is a little stuck or something from slamming closed?"

She hoovered at the edge seam and tried to pull on it. "Well someone going to help here?"

Subject: Mulligan..........

I clarified some information with Tann.
when he posted:

With the Wall of Fire's sudden hot temperature blasting the room, the ice holding the coffin door in place instantly melted. With a loud crashing sound the door slammed back into place, steam and smoke rising from it.

His intention was for us to know (figure out) the door broke from the freezing and quick thaw of the hinges from the hot fire spell. I told him as I read it seemed normal for a stuck / frozen door to slam shut and didn't get a clue of it possibly having broken mechanics when it was a magic operated door. I may have got it if there had been some sound or something when Ulthok tried the gems again.

He's allowing a mulligan and we shall discover that the door needs to be pried open.

I will post that Peri notices the door ajar.

So start to thinking on how to pry open the door.

BTW, from Sirene's spell on the door we should have noticed that the "Evil feeling" in the room was gone. Tann told me that the Evil was in a trap that would have sprung had we tried to open the tombs any other way than using the gems. We avoided a really ugly battle that some most likely would not have survived.

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday - 42137.6)
USS Peregrine; Deck 5, Gym - 1805

They approached the box and took a glance at the interior, they could even smell the stain that was used coming out of the box, it was subtle but there. It brought a smile to the man's lips, he nodded and plucked one of the staff from the box and felt its weight. "Not exactly my area of expertise, but I think I can manage to put up a decent fight." he said, and began putting on the safety gear. "Where did you learn this art?" he asked moving toward the other side of the mat, taking a few swings with the staff. He turned and set himself, allowing the staff to hang across his body in one hand while he did the strap to the head guard.

"When I was eighteen I attended a Scouting World Jamboree in Gilwell England,. I meet some local Scouts that told me about their "Master At Arms" merit badge,. One of the skills was to learn to use the Quarter Staff. ,..They gave me a copy of a vintage pamphlet that showed the six offensive strikes and the six defense parries,, They are all swing moves but they can be made into thrust moves. So for the next couple of weeks they showed me the left leg strike, right leg strike, left flank, right flank, left cheek and right cheek and how they used to tool,I took my share of bruises but it was so fluid and so fun. ,..With that I'll only use swing moves."

Haemis took the staff in both hands, and gave him a salute and held the staff at the ready. He was not prepared for the agility of John, his first strike coming swiftly, it was all Haemis could do to get his stick up to stop his opponent from smashing him across the head or shoulder.

Shifting his feet he nearly took another blow that came from the side, then found himself on his back looking up at John. He had been swept from his feet in a fluid motion on what Haemis could only have guessed was a pivot and back swing low at his feet.

Slowly he got to his feet, and took a deep breath and set himself again. This was a lot more swift than a sword that was certain. But his eyes were starting to play catch up, blocking a bit more easy but still not exact. He circled the man and smiled. "Your very good!" he said.

John could tell that the man before him was taking it all in. Forgetting a basic of his training John tried faint left and his opponent took the advantage and place resounding smack to his right thigh. John's leg buckled slightly. ,. Spinning to avoid the next blow he had to throw up a parry as he man had reversed his staff to a two handed down ward strike,.. Rolling his staff john drove the attacking staff tip to floor. Putting up his guard John stepped back quickly. "Well you're learning quickly."

Stardate 2365.02.09
USS Peregrine; Lt. Reid's Quarters - 1700

The cabin light draw up from night time dark to morning glow as the wake setting transformed Lt. Reid's quarters. Since before the Peregrine had docked at star base 118 John had been awake. The events that unfolded had kept him up forty eight hours, longer than he had planned. Coming off Gamma bridge duty he had caught a brief snack with Nurse Miraan, but fatigue forced him to cut their time short. Now after a glorious sleep he was ready to start again.

Catching a quick shower John fetched a coffee and sticky bun from the replicator and sat at his com station to catch up on events. After a few minutes he let out low whistle. John knew that the Captain's Mast was required and the sentence was just, but it stuck in his craw that P.O. Crane was in the brigg and Ensign Agris was assigned to the Coronado.

Deciding he needed to loosen up and perhaps vent a little anger he grabbed his workout bag and headed to the gym.

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday - 42137.6)
USS Peregrine; Deck 5, Gym - 1800

John stepped into gym to in time to see new crew member step away from the heavy bag ,. He picked up a large weighted chunk of metal, much like a sword with a hilt, but a round barrel instead of a blade. It was weighted for training as if it were a sword but more for the weight. He began dancing around the mat as though running through exercises he had done so many times before. He swung the chunk of metal and it rebounded bouncing off the punching bag stopping him. He stood staring at the bag, for a good long time the chunk of metal held much as if he was squaring off with an opponent, close to his body, upright ready for what was to come.

With a bit of admiration and a slight chuckle John said, "I think you killed it!"

In a warm brogue, "Not entirely." he said taking a step back and a deep breath. His cheeks were a bit rosy. "But tha will teach it!" he said pointing his practice weapon at the bag. "Shouldn't sneak up on unsuspecting individuals swing'n large weapon's." he said shaking the sword at it. He moved back towards the middle of the mat hazarding a glance at who it is that was addressing him.

Setting his bag down John advanced to the mat extending his hand. "I'm John,ya care to try to hitting something that hits back?........ I need to work off a bit a steam,,,care to indulge a bit in the "Manly Art" of quarter staffs?

(Allowing Haemis to respond.)

"We have a nice selection of equipment in the storage next to the boxing gear. " Walking the case John open the door revealing several eight foot staffs and required head and body gear. "Star Fleet requires curtain precautions, but it's pretty much the same as it was back in 1880's England. Head gear and padding."

Showing the man a variety of staffs, "As it is my challenge, I'll let you have first choice of weapon." Stand in brilliant array were gleaming hardwood and bamboo staffs from various planets.
