USS Peregrine; Lt. Reid’s Quarters – 1235

John had made his way to his quarters to rest and prepare for his rotation on the bridge. As was his usual routine before starting a mission he reviews the personnel log for changes. The Peregrine’s crew was small compared to a Galaxy class ship but still he felt it was wise to know the new faces on board. His new CO would not have time and it was the job of the second to support and fill the gaps.
As the boarding log came up on the comm John let out a low whistle.

Lt Chell (Ops) - Promoted and given an XO post aboard another ship. Was supposed to have been replaced by a Lt Tetsuko but, instead, we got Lt Lasad.

Lt Rockatansky (Tac/Sec) - Transferred . Replaced by Lt Berk.

Lt Synklar (Medical) - Transferred . Replaced by Lt Moore.

Lt Cmdr Thorson (Eng) - Relieved of duty due to medical emergency. Replaced by Lt McTavish.

Lt (jg) Tesenblen (Sci) - arrested for illegal acquisition and cultivation of potentially dangerous substances aboard SF installations/ships. Replaced by Lt Sh'iraolnas.


Ens Thomason - Flight Control Dept,
2nd class PO Nurse Peter Adama.
3rd class PO Nurse Miraan.
Crewman Nurse Sandra Reynolds

John was used to the changeovers in crewman as a usual routine of Starfleet to give personnel experience but never had he heard of this many changes in Senior Staff at one time.

Coincidence had just made it seem more unusual. Transfers for promotion were standard and emergencies would require changes. Misfortune of stepping over the Starfleet regulations also would require discipline. It wasn’t John’s place to question the moves of Starfleet so changing a Security Officer and Medical Officer were not outside any grand plan. But when looking at it as a whole the Peregrine was handed a challenge.

John entered his security clearance and opened the files of each transfer. Reviewing each file he entered a briefing report on each new crew member with risk analysis. Although his current clearance did not give him access to all files it was enough to send on the Lt. Berk.

Gosh do you guys write a lot. But keep it up so we have stuff to build on.

Still catching up and refreshing, may be tomorrow for my post but seeing that Reid is minor character and support it is mostly fill until direct action starts.

Reid will be reviewing the security files on the crew so if there should be something he should notice please let me know.
Like sections classified "Need To Know" or "clearance level not sufficient".

Ok here's my outline so that Brennas might have a little more. I plan to have Reid doing a quick security review on the new crew member as a brief for the Lt. This will allow him to catch high level facts without have to complete each bio in a rush. He can do that later. I would guess he would want a bit more warm fuzzy on the new bridge SO and others.

Reid will then retire for his rest to take the Command Chair on Beta shift. (Insert ZZZZZZZZZZ......)

Should have that up tonight.

Subject: RL Does What Does.....

Well the down time came at a time when I needed to be away too.

June 2 my mother (92)was in car accident and now just this Thursday I brought home from nursing care. So I was either at the hospital or nursing care almost every night with her. Would have been late on posts.

Now it looks like much smoother times. I have Reid sleeping during departure because he is next up on Gamma shift for the bridge. So he just slept through two month of Ody down time.

I will need to get back into the date time thing and read some back to get started again.

Welcome back Olan and the rest. Hope we keep this bird flying.
Oops, had Reid on the wrong duty shift. He's on the bridge for Gamma not Beta.

With nothing more found to help them to a lower level and the mass of mud removed from their being the party trekked back to room with the door choices which again took far less time than the trek down.

As party reentered Ulthok remarked, "Well it does appear that this tower has an odd relationship with time. We may be on to something that can actually return us. But it is filled with dangers and we have been lucky so far to survive these threats. I suggest we choose a door and then take a rest so that Sirene, Alyia and I can prepare fresh spells with thought to match what we saw in the room at the end. It's better to enter battle with a full quiver. I say we try the fountain room. It looks like a wishing fountain but it appeared guarded by those two statues. We could each toss in a coin and wish to be moved to next lower level."

Ulthok smiled as Peri's spell turned the statues to mud, but as the statues transformed the mud splashed over the party. The party stood covered it the remains. Lothor then moved to recheck the room.

"Ok, once you're done come back here and gather with us and I'll try to clear this mud off of us.

(O.O.C., Ulthok will use the cantrip "Clean" to remove the mud from the party members.)

Maybe we NPC Roan by having Cor or Rayne instruct him to research the room looking for new clues. Lothor could search too. Then the rest of us wait for Tann to tell us if anything is found. Then we clean those areas.

I'd say we go ahead and have Ulthok clean off the party first.

Well Aliya, Sirene and Ulthok can each cast the cantrip clean.
Ulthok can gather everyone close in a 6'x6' area and cast it on the party to clean us. The mud should fall off to the floor.

Then Aliya and Sirene can clean the areas to search. So Nomad's ideas of search to find a likely spot is a good idea.

So are just "awash" in mud much like way a mud wrestler would look like or caked with a thickness that needs to peeled off?

Is the floor smeared with a say 1/8 inch layer of mud or is it ankle deep to impede movement?

I'd say if we find nothing to get us to s lower level of the tower in this room we return to main room. We may want to rest and recharge or select new spells to match our next room choice.

Playing this game has made us think more. Choices to act are getting better. I have had to grow into Ulthok. I'd not played a character of this level before so I hadn't learned what you learn usually as you move through levels.

Now I take others suggestions and also go look up stuff. I'd say I have read each of our character's profiles over and over. I go out and look up how our magic items work so I know better their limits. I also go out and read about the potential monsters for a best guess at what to expect.

AND we have gotten lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!! so let's not get too cocky.

So what next? A Cleaning Cantrip? This is a lot of mud.
Does anyone think we should recheck the room in case to see if something showed up?

Ulthok had been with Cor for a long time now, he’d learned to pay attention to Cor ideas and blessing the bones had just sounded right. He even offered a prayer to what little help it may be.

The Knight’s Cleric had guided the party well, the bone glowed blue as the tortured souls were freed. But as there presences faded a blinding brilliant flash filled the room. The strength of the magic exposed from Aliya’s detect spell not filled there eyes. As they tried to recover the sound of stone crunching on the floor as some things moved toward them. The statues had to have come to life.

As Ulthok turn to face the coming sound he heard Pier,“Those are too hard to cut so that should soften them all, mud is softer than rock.” So smiling to himself he drew his sword of lighting quickness , “Well maybe mud will be a bit easier on my sword than stone.”

Then thinking it might be wise to be unseen while he still couldn’t see he sent a bit of will into his ring and disappeared.

A little slow getting it you but here is some information that might help with the statue attack. These seem more like Stone Guardians then regular Stone Golems.

Stone Guardian
In combat, a guardian slams opponents with its massive arms, each of which inflicts 1d8+1 points of damage. The stone guardian suffers only¼ damage from edged weapons and ½ damage from all cold, fire, or electrical attacks. Normal missiles cause no damage. A stone guardian can be instantly destroyed by a stone to flesh, transmute rock to mud, stone shape, or dig spell; it is not entitled to a saving throw.

The stone golem is immune to any weapon, except those of +2 or better enchantment.

Here's the spell Peri is using. She level 12 so she can cover the room and would catch all the statues. If it doesn't kill them and only turns them to Mud Monsters we should still be able to slice them up with +2 weapons.

Transmute rock to Mud
Level: 5 Schools: Alteration
Range: 10 yds./level Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 20-ft. cube/level Saving Throw: None
This spell turns natural rock of any sort into an equal volume of mud. The depth of the mud can never exceed half its length or breadth. If it is cast upon a rock, for example, the rock affected collapses into mud. Creatures unable to levitate, fly, or otherwise free themselves from the mud sink at the rate of 10 feet per round and suffocate, except for lightweight creatures that could normally pass across such ground. Brush thrown atop the mud can support creatures able to climb on top of it, with the amount of brush required subject to the DM's discretion. The mud remains until a dispel magic spell or a reverse of this spell, mud to rock, restores its substance--but not necessarily its form. Evaporation turns the mud to normal dirt, at the rate of 1d6 days per 10 cubic feet. The mud to rock reverse can harden normal mud into soft stone (sandstone or similar mineral) permanently unless magically changed.

Subject: Soften Thing Up A Bit.........


The voices and their pain subsided as the party prayed. Then a flash flared and the brightness made it difficult to see. That was when Peri heard the sound of the stone statues moving behind then. It had always been easy to cast her spells even in the dark. Setting little surprises on the unwary worked well in the dark. She knew that the statues had been released and were now advancing on the party. The things were hard and would be difficult for Ulthok and the other to defeat so maybe they needed to not be so hard. With that the little Faerie Dragon turned toward the sounds of the moving statues and cast a spell to soften up the statues. She could cast it from five feet in front of her and spread it nearly wall to wall and forty feet through the room. “Those are too hard to cut so that should soften them all, mud is softer than rock.” she breathed.
(OOC, Peri cast Transmute Rock to Mud.)

I had visualized a larger space between the enterance and the first of the statues, so I guess this works.

Now got to plan more.

I had thought to have Peri cast Stone to Mud or Grease.
Need to see the area effect of each first.

The mud one could kill the statues or just one.
The grease could slow the advance to all the statues due to bad footing.

Thank you all for your thoughts and support about my mother. She doing much better. Although she is still in a care facility.

She had her 92 BD on the 8th.

I took her to her Doctor Thursday and they removed the cast from left hand and broken bones in her right are healing well, they had plates screwed to them.

I hope she gains strength and control enough to do her normal things such as dressing, feeding and walking soon so she can leave the center in 2 to 4 weeks. She's been in rehab care since June 9.

Never mind I found it the Encyclopedia Magica. Only works on non magic glass and ceramics.

Also I would like to know if we are among the statues or are they out in front of us? Is door to room behind us and no statues between us and it in case of retreat? The room sketch would be very helpful. We could have moved away from the statues toward the door to find a clear area for the bones and now the statues are behind us in a group. We might be able to stagger out into the hall ahead of the statues attack instead of standing and fighting. So position is important to actions.
