As Ulthok slowly pushed the door open he was relieved that there had not been any other traps set on the opening. Continuing to gradually push the door he hoped none would noticed its movement.

Keeping the door as shield between him and throne the mage went on alert to access the action in the chamber. His companions seemed to holding their own but then he heard Rayne’s voice call out a warning, "There's more behind us!"

But as it is when you are engaged in battle there is little if no time to plan, you must act. The movement at the front door showed him that the creatures from hall had left their gruesome task of beheading the fallen and were now charging into the room to attack. The mage was pleased to see the shadows he had called earlier were still at hand. While still shielded by the door Ulthok stepped into the room, reappearing. To the shadow fighter he called, "You two nearest to him attack the big human leading the Orcs, you other two attack the two Orcs behind him. When they are dead attack the other Orcs” Then he stepped back into hall willing spirit into his ring and vanished again. From here he continued to survey what of the battle he could see and searched for Peri.

Topic: Weird War II
Subject: Cheesy.............

Doc sat at a table inside the conference room at headquarters. Colonel Kevin Darling had called the team here for another mission briefing. The Colonel was thoughtful enough to have sandwiches and tea brought in. The British officer was now the Liaison officer with High Command.

Doc thought, “High Command”, he was still finding it odd how they got to here from that near botched mission to destroy a rocket fuel plant at Castle Rautenberg. The paratrooper company was quickly reduced to a few men when their planes were shot out of the sky by Nazi fighters. The few survivors pulled together to attempt completing the mission. Only the mission changed when they found out that the castle was not a fuel lab, but actually a secret sight to access occult stuff to give the Germans unbeatable forces or creatures. A woman they had saved, Miss Hofsetter , had been there to try to regain the items being used to call these creatures and she guided them to recover the mystic things. They had eventually recovered the items but lost a good man, sergeant Brutal, who sacrified himself to save the team. Now here they were, a special team that was sent out to stop other such Nazi unnatural plans. Apparently it was decided the small group was more effective than creating a company.

The rest of team, some from the original survivors and a couple of new recruits, had also now gathered at the tables in the room. In his proper British accent Colonel Darling started to outline a new assignment.

“Right. Now listen up. …Early this week, we received a coded transmission from Miss Hofsetter with a set of coordinates and the message that the SS occult division was highly interested in this site. The message also mentioned the SS was sending the “Coven” to retrieve whatever is there. Unfortunately we have no idea what or who the Coven is. The coordinates are in Egypt, about 100 miles south west into the desert from Fort Maddalena. Thanks to some work by Sidney Cotton, we were able to get some aerial photo graphs using a small plane and special cameras.” The Colonel pulled several black and white pictures out of a manila envelope and puts them up on the board. The photographs showing some sort of ruins in the desert, but one large building was still intact.

“According to our research people, this is most likely a tomb of an ancient ruler called Hamon-Rye. Apparently he was considered a mage of great power and is rumoured to have collected some antiquities of note. Like most of the rulers of the time, he bankrupted his kingdom building an enormous tomb and his people rose against him. Nothing left but these ruins now.” The Colonel stopped to take a breath and drink some of his tea. “Whatever is there, the Jerries are moving fast. We got a report that three lorries were spotted heading in the direction of the ruins this morning. So, as you can plainly see no time for dilly-dally. Gear up and get yourself out to airfield 4 within the hour. We want to be wheels up as soon as possible so we can drop you at dusk. Usual mission. Stop the Jerries, get the magic, bring it back home. We have a man in Fort Maddalena who can get you home once you get out. Any questions?”

Star, a young women they had rescued during another mission and was now their team expert on occult, nearly dropped her tea cup when she heard the colonel mention Hamon-Rye.

"Colonel, if it pleases you, I'd like to add what little I know to the pool as it were." Star looked at the group one after another then closed her eyes, drawing the information from her mind she spoke.

"Hamon-Rye an his consort Monanedra were great rulers long before the pyramids were constructed. It was said that they were great an powerful couple. Who made a lush an fertile kingdom in the desert for his people. So great was their magic their it is said that the waters that flowed forth fresh sweet an could could heal a man of illness, plague or injury. With the high priestess Monadedra at his side, he wheeled the great staff of Mo-Pelar. Through which its said that his magic flowed through the giant diamond which topped the staff.

It is said that he was the very first to build a tomb, to transport his earthly remains to the afterlife. Accounts differ on why he was over thrown or how simply that he was. Upon his death his consort gathered his followers and hid Hamon-Rye in a secret tomb underneath the temple. She then sealed herself into the tomb so she could be with him in the afterlife and cursed the lands that were once his to shrivel up and die. After his death, the waters ceased to flow and the lush fertile lands dried up and were taken by the desert.

The only other accounts I've come across are accounts of A Roman Centurion named Decimus Severian. Found the tomb around the time of Cezar Augustus. taking everything of value an wealth of torching the rest. However given the ease of success the Romans had and the relatively small amount of loot that was found. It is believed by most scholars that Decimus found a false tomb.

In 1865 Heinrich Karl Brugsch found the temple. Which is why it is on the map. It is noted that He said the tomb was long plundered. Though the temple was in control by cultists. They believed Hamon-Rye would return one day and grant them the secret of eternal life. Heinrich was hampered insistently by the cult unable to make a long expedition of the tomb because of them. To the point he had to leave in a hurry or face their wrath.

He did make mention of a mysterious fire within the tomb that was still burning bright when he discovered it but he later recanted that story claiming to have celebrated the discovery with bad liebfraumilch with lead to him seeing the impossible."

Doc raised an eyebrow as he looked at her, “Phew…you sure about that?.....You seemed a bit sketchy on the details.” Then he let out a low chuckle, “Mercy girl…what could you find if we gave you time to look that stuff up?” Doc was always amazed by what was locked up that brain of hers.

“Well good thing you got it inside that head of yours, we don’t have time to go to no library when we’re in the field.”

Almost before he could take a breath Doc heard that German accent coming out of that Hillbilly Marine. Just like the rapid fire of his favorite tommy gun Rat let out a blast of questions; one after another while not seeming to wait for an answer.

"Hey Legs! Thanks for the History Lesson!"

"So ... Colonel Darling ... Sir! No trace of Panzers?"

"Sarge best have a supply of explosives for any unexpected German tanks!"

"Hey Doc! There be some nasty critters in the desert sands! You got plenty of medical supplies to deal with poison critters? Them African desert snakes, lizards and spiders make the Kentucky mountain critters seem tame!"

"Hey Cap! Never heard tell of any 'Coven' during my days with the British 'Rat Patrol' units! But there be plenty of Scurvy Cut Throats roaming the sands! They be ready to slit yer throat for yer canteen of water! Any strategy suggestions Cap?"

"Well I ate enough sand over there in that ungodly sand box to know we need to be extra special prepared for this mission!

"We be needing plenty of salt pills, be wary of all those stinkin' sink holes and be prepared for the rapid temp changes! Best to travel at night under cover of darkness!

"Corban you prepared for Snipe Huntin' in the desert sands?"

"I never heard of no Coven, but them Jerries be up to no good for sure! Hey Legs! You know anything more about this Ham Sandwich Tomb or what the Jerries might be searching for?"

"How about you ... Colonel Darling ... Sir? Any Theories?"

Doc looked over at the Marine and imitated the rapid questioning, “You get that nick name Rat from being in the desert patrol or because of that cheesy chatter of yours?

……As a cook you should know it ain’t no regular Ham samwich, it’s Ham on Rye….

You ever breath when you’re talking?......

And if’n you take care of them snakes then don’t you worry about me taking care of you, but if all else fails I got nice toe tag with your name on it.”

Looking back to Star, “Say ain’t them Coven things usually women,…you know like a bunch of witches?”

Subject: Helpful Hints......

Well I just went searching for what would be concidered "Helpful Hints" for posting and manuvering through the Inn and we don't really seem to have it in one easy place. Things get posted in the "Common Room" but your still need to know the thread to find it and review.

Archive's "Other" tells of formating but what about other ideas? Like the one I just said about searching old post by person. Where would it go so it was intuitive to look there?

I would guess others have found such things that they use to enable them to post more in sync with others. DM's need quick ways to check facts and review posts. These tools are handy and an easy to find location on "How To" would be great.

Folks talked about their troubles with Chat; did we have a centrol place other then a post in the common room to suggest help ideas and make it easy to find.

Maybe a "Helpful Hints" drop down would be a good centrol place. It could be broken into sections such as "Chat","Posting","Searching". Folks could post their hints there and it could build to a good "User's Tool".

Ok, so there are some Ody ideas, now back to my "Good Old Froth-n-Slosh".

Would it be possible to list PM in newest to oldest?

Currently we have enter PM and click on last past page number and scroll to the end.

Not a biggy but would be quicker, especially if we are checking on a smart phone.

I don't know others use it but I have found the ability to search posts by person very helpful. So please keep that. If I'm not sure of a detail from a past post it makes the search much easier. I can click on their icon and when it goes to their info page I click on recent posts. Scoll search takes a bit but so much easier than paging back through stories.

I don't know if that ability is listed as a helpful hint, but it should be.

I'm already falling behind. Got a PM Astrid and I think we will also have a little side post. I was out of town yesterday and didn't take my laptop so I miss a bit. Had to rent a car and drive hours last night to Pontiac, got in about 9:30 pm. Went to GM Powertrain HQ to put on a 20 minute section of a supplier raining. Then went to Chrysler to pick some parts. Drove back after lunch and am just now reading Q&A, stories and PMs.

Astrid, I liked what you wrote in the PM and I'll send Doc's POV (once I get it written) for your review and then we can post. I think I'm going to backup a little more and go over Doc's POV of when he found you and started treating your wounds. The will take a little liberty with Al's storey set up. Then jump to sync with your PM. Sound OK?

If you can't tell I haven't read your or Hammer's post yet, that's next.

Strength warmed through his body as the potion did its work. Then to his delight his ring worked as well and the mage vanished. Moving down the corridor carried by his boots of striding Ulthok had come to the door at the end much quicker than he had expected. Covering the distance so rapidly must also have been the residue of the magic from the gem room. It didn’t take the rogue long to figure out the throne room’s magic was controlled by the Queen but here in the hall the gem seemed to amplify any magic used here.

Coming to the door Ulthok carefully checked traps. From the far side the sound of a battle carries through the wood. Wary that the door maybe warded or otherwise enchanted Ulthok in vain tries to remember the spell to dispel such things. So left with no other choice he must turn the latch and push the door open.

Remaining invisible he uses what care he can. Not wanting to directly tough the door he drew his remaining sword and uses it to force the handle and push the door to swing wide.

Xin moved away to aid his companion and it was then that Peri realized that the haze of pain misled her to believe they had been invisible. She wanted to reach out to Ulthok for comfort but knew she must not distract him with her plight. So she remained still perhaps the enemy would ignore her as a useless casualty.

A tear trickled down from eye as she hoped find a way to aid her friends. Through the blur of wet eyes she saw a figure approach. The tall human reached and touched her. She now could see it was man the joined in the castle. The ranger cleric of Odin had fought bravely by their side and she was glad that Dark Whisper had not turn her against this one too.

As the big man touched his chest too she heard the words he whispered; he was asking his Odin to grant healing. A ray of hope filled the faerie dragon as perhaps this Odin would be kind enough to spare a little healing for her. Peri thought she must find another apple to repay this kind act.

b>BTW- Without an updated map to show just how close the charging rat-men are I had to figure that Ody places the spell beyond harm of the party and would curve it for maxium effect on the enemy coming down off the mound.

I read that the mound is 30 feet high but I don't remeber seeing just how far away the mass of Rat-men up there were from the party. I looked at the drawing but still wasn't quite sure how they would charge. So instead of just a wall of fire to barakade them I'm trying a fire flood rushing up toward them. It should catch most if not all of them for some gamage. Then those that break through will go down easier to melee.

The party’s attack had foiled the ambush but as was usual with rats there were many more hiding in the dark on top of the mound. From the faded hiding place a barrage of javelins arced their way. The group was able to survive this initial attack but now face the mass of remaining rat-men as the pack charge down the side of the mound. The surge of 50 to 60 enemy charging with spears would close on the party in an attempt to over whelm them. Ody saw the flame strike had been a good start so more fire would better. Calling upon the strength of him diety he cast a storm of fire up the mound to catch the charging scourge before they reached his friends. The Rat-men’s own momentum would carry them into their own destruction.

(O.O.C.: Again for the benefit of readers to understand the spell.

Fire Storm
Level: 7 Sphere: Elemental (Fire) [Evocation]
Range: 160 yds. Components: V, S
Duration: 1 rd. Casting Time: 1 rd.
Area of Effect: two 10-ft. cubes/level Saving Throw: ½

When a fire storm spell is cast, the whole area is shot through with sheets of roaring flame that equal a wall of fire spell in effect. Creatures within the area of fire and 10 feet or less from the edge of the affected area receive 2d8 points of damage plus additional damage equal to the caster's level (2d8 +1/level). Creatures that roll successful saving throws vs. spell suffer only one-half damage. The damage is inflicted each round the creature stays in the area of effect. The area of effect is equal to two 10-foot x 10-foot cubes per level of the cater--e.g., a 13th-level caster can cast a fire storm measuring 130 feet x 20 feet x 10 feet. The height of the storm is 10 or 20 feet; the imbalance of its area must be in length and width.

BTW- Without an update map to show just how close the charging rat-men are I figure that Ody places the spell beyond harm of the party and would curve it for maxium effect on the enemy coming down the mound. Ody can see what I only imagine.

Suddenly the room and surroundings looked different. The colors were gone. Dudley saw Iron Men turn away as if they had no interest in him. Whatever the button had done his Goddess had blessed him with luck again.

Dudley wanted to share the fun with Wembley so he hurried over to the small rogue. As he approached the other Cid he could see Wembley was hurt badly by Iron guards. The Cleric knew he must help his friend. Whispering a prayer of healing, while ducking and moving with Wembley as he continued to chatter and attack, the Cleric lightly places a hand on Wembley’s shoulder. He called upon Shinara to apply what little skill he had to cure some of Wembley’s wounds.

(O.O.C., Dudley cast cure light wounds. At first level that is all the healing he has to offer.)

The merciful darkness of unconsciousness start to wane as Peri began to recover from the Hydra’s firy breath attack The searing pain of burns clutched the faerie dragon; she trembled. Opening her eyes Peri noticed she was invisible and mild rush of joy filled her as she thought her Ulthok was protecting her. A soft accented voice close to her whispered to lay still. It was then she realized that Ulthok was distant in her thoughts and had been fighting his battle away from rest.

Small gentle hands touched her damage flash as Xin cradled her. Quietly as to not draw attention the Jenni explained that Aliya had bid him to her aid. He had cloaked her first with his cape to end the fire from the Hydra’s breath and then he cloaked them both in invisibility to move them away from the battle.

As she tried to regain her wits Peri did as Xin had said and lay quietly. But then realizing that the Jenni was able to cast invisibility she guess her own ability to turn invisible would work too. "Xin, thank you for your help, but you go now and help the others, I'll fend for myself." With that she she envoked her own ability and remained unseen by those around her.
