Well I'm torn...I am thinking to let Allanan cast. I am getting from Tann's post that Ulthok senses Allanan's spell isn't friendly but I don't see a clue that it is deadly.


I don't recall Althena defending the party and didn't she have a thing for the Paladin that turned out to be a Death Knight?


Ii say let the Valar duke it out and then we side with the winner.

The party headed to the General’s; and Allanan walked with Ulthok and Valene. Halflings weren’t common in his time and the fact that these little people could cast intrigued him. “Pardon me for speaking bluntly”, he said to Ulthok, “but meeting a Halfling that can cast arcane magic is something quite interesting to me.”


Ulthok looked up at the tall human mage,” Well in 2000 years my people have achieved many things, but you are correct that even now there are few that have learned the arcane skills. Valene has become a conduit of her diety and with that blessing she is a very capable caster….”, then with a slight tremble in his voice, “it is her skill that I need now.”


With a raised eyebrow Allana looked to Valene and then back to Ulthok,” Tell me …if it isn’t too personal, what skill do you need?”


“Well sir before we freed you from your own ice prison we battled our way through the halls of the tower. We had another member that didn’t make it to the cavern….my companion and familiar Peri, a fey creature of a Fairie Dragon, died in an attack from the beholders. Valene will perform a raise spell to bring her back to life. My heart will be broken as our link will be gone, she has become so much a part of me in our short time together….. I now know the despair she must have suffered when I died and my spirit flooded into my amulet of life protection and joy she felt when I was healed.”


Allanan stopped, “You have an amulet?……pull it out so I can see it please.”


Ulthok slid the chain up that suspended the item that rested next to his heart. When it was free of his shirt Allanan bent down to examine it.  A faint glow seemed to emanate from the opaque stone imbedded in the golden medallion. “Ulthok…you don’t need to raise your friend…she is here and has been next to your heart. On rare occasion the familiar link is especially strong and in your case because her size was small but her spirit so strong you share your amulet. You two might even be able share it together if the time ever came.But she is a magical creature and I cannot say that the amulet will react as it does for you.I would say don't attempt to release her yet, I am unsure of the magic needed, perhap a your fey caster Sirene should help; her Heal spell would be stronger.”


Although disappointed Ulthok agreed, if just for Peri's safety.

Ulthok listened as Cor stated the facts to the two Elves they were sent to confront with Kakaranatha's demand which she presented as an offer. These were children of the ranger they had rescued in the tower and he had been ready to fight the great dragon but fate handed them a different option and their actions had changed history. Talca had chosen to stay behind so what he had done was also an effect on history. These descendents still had much to tell as the adventures needed to understand the new present. The Halfling listened as the Elves finally made their choice.


“As much as the citizens deserve and need to be aware of this threat,' he started, his voice slightly raspy due to his dry throat and mouth. Clearing his throat, his voice sounded clearer when he resumed his speech, 'the beast has issued her warning to us very clearly and I think we should heed it for we hardly know anything of Kakaranatha's powers or their limits, if indeed they have any limits at all,' Arandur added with a hint of dread. 'Therefore I think, if my dear sister Rayden agrees with me,' here he smiled at her, 'we should hold our tongues until we can fathom with utmost accuracy what the she-dragon's powers and, indeed, what her weaknesses are. If we are the realm's only hope of bringing this beast to heel, then we must proceed with the utmost caution lest we are destroyed prematurely due to our carelessness and recklessness. I just pray that the many innocents of this realm do not pay dearly for our decisions or mistakes.”


As the Elve hang his head Ulthok piped up.” Well you’ve made the right choice; I can tell by your looks you believe we were the last hope to save the world from the acts of the Dragon Goddess. But you really need think how do mortals stop Gods…..”, Ulthok let that sink in for second. “Your father wasn’t with us long enough to learn our mission…and that wasn’t to stop a god from effecting the lives of the mortals. If you believe the goddess is responsible for Talca’s death then I believe it was related to what he did after we left not to just what we did there.” The small mage know they may not favor what he had to say, but he had to say it. “Raydon, your confidence and skill with animals shows your father taught you well. Arandur you seem to carry the action spirit Talca showed when we revived him. So join us in the quest we can handle…and if our actions open a chance for what you feel needs to also be done then all the better. …Now finish your drinks and we must find our way to General St Alban’s and meet up with rest of our group to learn what they have found has changed from last we were here.”

Subject: BTW....


Great post Dragonsoul and SilentOne. Sometimes it takes a little bit to flesh out our team. Each of you building the presence of your charaters that we will responde to as we write. I am getting the feel of how to judge the new Elves, but Ulthok can sometimes be a jerk so don't take it hard if he needles your characters. You should go back and read what he used to do to the teams Paladin when I frist joined. So I'll be careful and if you object too much let me know in PM and we can fix it.


 


Ulthok only has average Wisdon of 10 and a little less than average Charisma of 9. He may be cute and act charming but when he opens his mouth what comes out my not be the greatest.

Subject: The Missing Rogue.......


Sorry I didn't get my post up before Tann got to his. I started a new job, got new health insurance so I've been catching up my real life issues. I will post today and slip it in so as not to derail what has been posted.


 


Depression, health and sef pitty have sort of ruined my writing so I have to suck it up and get rolling again. So bear with me as our "Little Man" steps it up again. I am seeing Cor and Sirene leading to group with Ulthok once again being their little pain in the neck.


 


I've been back reading to reset Ulthok in my mind. I've changed him from time to time and was trying to reset his personality again so he seemed consistent. Also I'll be throwing in posts for Valene and Peri seeing we lost the player of Valene and I need to raise Peri.


Hope to catch up by tonight.

We are about to start a new adventure and they are aids.


It took a coulpe of players to tell me Ulthok had his amulet of life protection and what it did. I thought my character was dead and gone from the game.

Found what the stuff does:


Below are the Aliya ID'd item descriptions.

Staff of Fury : This Staff is used in conjunction with a Wizards normal arsenal of spells. While holding the staff all damage attack spells (Fireball, Lighting Bolt, Magic Missile etc) Gain an extra +1 die of damage. This costs one charge. The staff can also be used defensively blocking up to four successful attacks each turn (1 turn equals 10 rounds combat) be it a melee weapon or spell. Can only do attack or defense never both at same time. Costs 2 charges. Staff currently has 21 charges remaining and is rechargeable.

Wand of the Mystic: Wand when commanded acts as a Sword of Light:(A Sword of Light functions as a +4 Scimitar that can also emit a Blinding Light spell 3 times per day. Anyone within 20 feet must save vs. Blindness or be blinded for2d4 rounds and cast Cure Serious Wounds once per day.( Each costs 2 charges per use. Wand currently has 16 charges and is rechargeable.)

Ring of Detection: Can cast any detect spell with 100% success.

Brooch of Anything: Upon command ring can become any known magical item for 8 hrs. Except those considered relics or artifacts. However the same item may never be reproduced. Brooch has 14 charges and cannot be recharged.

Whip of Cockatrice Feathers: Upon each successful hit enemy must make saving throw vs. petrification or be turned to stone. Whip has 12 charges and can be recharged but loses two charges permanently each time. Max recharge at present 20

Daggers +4

Gloves: UNKNOWN

Boots of Featherweight: Boots allow wearer to ignore encumbrance rules. However main power does not activate till wearer steps of a trap or other device triggered by weight. At that time the boots instantly reduce wearer’s eight to zero negating any such device. The wearer is unaware of any change unless in a windy area. If so wearer will be blown about as if a feather for one round.

Check your notes to see if we identified and distributed the magic item of found in the Cyclop's tower on the fallen mage?


If not they would have gone into our bag and we need to identify them soon.
We can take some time before we leave the city.


For clutched in his hands the dead wizard held a staff in his right,
and a wand with his left.
A ring rested upon on the index finger of the left hand,
a brooch pinned to his shirt
and a pair of brand new boots upon his feet.
Two daggers and
a whip sheathed at his waist,
a third dagger strapped to his arm
and some type of heavy metal gloves upon his hands had unlike his clothing all survived.


Looks like we did some back on page 375. Got check some more.

This looks like some of what we did.


Also I think Alyia should get first choice of the magic items, it was her spell. Although as a Fighter / Mage that wand would be a great asset for her.


Just my thoughts:
Sirene would be most effective with the staff, she more spells to work it with.


Lothor would be good with the whip.


Rayne could use the ring of detection as a ranger / cleric.


Cor would be good with the brooch.


Talca as a ranger would be good with the boots, but he has boots of speed. Eol turned down any of the mages stuff.


Didn't find info on the broke sword or the round stones from the chest.

 I am working on a post about Ulthok seeing concern in your character's face he starts to discuss it a little more bluntly. I won't get my post up until Sunday. As the group's Rogue Ulthok will lay it out. Cor puts out the fact and just expects everyone to get it, most that have been with him do. But you guys are new so.........

This spell enables the caster to change his own oak cudgel or unshod staff into a magical weapon that gains a +1 bonus to its attack roll and inflicts 2d4 points of damage on opponents up to man size, and 1d4+1 points of damage on larger opponents. The spell inflicts no damage to the staff or cudgel. The caster must wield the shillelagh, of course.


The material components of this spell are a shamrock leaf and the caster's holy symbol.


Barkskin

































Level: 2   Sphere: Protection, Plant [Alteration]
Range: Touch   Components: V, S, M
Duration: 4 rds. + 1 rd./level   Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 1 creature   Saving Throw: None

When a priest casts the barkskin spell upon a creature, its skin becomes as tough as bark, increasing its base Armor Class to AC 6, plus 1 AC for every four levels of the priest: Armor Class 5 at 4th level, Armor Class 4 at 8th, and so on. This spell does not function in combination with normal armor or any magical protection. In addition, saving throw rolls vs. all attack forms except magic gain a +1 bonus. This spell can be placed on the caster or on any other creature he touches.


In addition to his holy symbol, the caster must have a handful of bark from an oak as the material component for the spell.


Goodberry (Reversible)

































Level: 2   Sphere: Plant [Alteration, Evocation]
Range: Touch   Components: V, S, M
Duration: 1 day + 1 day/level   Casting Time: 1 rd.
Area of Effect: 2d4 fresh berries   Saving Throw: None

Casting a goodberry spell upon a handful of freshly picked berries makes 2d4 of them magical. The caster (as well as any other caster of the same faith and 3rd or higher level) can immediately discern which berries are affected. A detect magic spell discovers this also. Berries with the magic either enable a hungry creature of approximately man size to eat one and be as well-nourished as if a full normal meal were eaten, or else cure 1 point of physical damage from wounds or other similar causes, subject to a maximum of 8 points of such curing in any 24-hour period.


The reverse of the spell, badberry, causes 2d4 rotten berries to appear wholesome, but each actually delivers 1 point of poison damage (no saving throw) if ingested.


The material component of the spell is the caster's holy symbol passed over the freshly picked, edible berries to be enspelled (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, currants, gooseberries, etc.).


Trip

































Level: 2   Sphere: Plant [Enchantment/Charm]
Range: Touch   Components: V, S
Duration: 1 turn/level   Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 1 object up to 10 ft. long   Saving Throw: Neg.

This magic must be cast upon a normal object--a length of vine, a stick, a pole, a rope, or a similar object. The spell causes the object to rise slightly off the ground or floor it is resting on to trip most creatures crossing it, if they fail their saving throws vs. spell. Note that only as many creatures can be tripped as are actually stepping across the enchanted object. Thus, a 3-foot-long piece of rope could trip only one man-sized creature. Creatures moving at a very rapid pace (running) when tripped suffer 1 point of damage and are stunned for 1d4+1 rounds if the surface they fall upon is very hard (if it is turf or other soft material, they are merely stunned for the rest of that round). Very large creatures, such as elephants, are not affected at all by a trip spell. The object continues to trip all creatures passing over it, including the spellcaster, for as long as the spell duration lasts. A creature aware of the object and its potential adds a +4 bonus to its saving throw roll when crossing the object. The enchanted object is 80% undetectable unless a means that detects magical traps is employed or the operation of the spell is observed. This spell does not function under water.

So you get 3 level 1 spells ,2 level 2 spells and 1 level 3 spell per day.


Currently your character doesn't have access to 7th level spells, but here it is anyway.


Creeping Doom

































Level: 7   Sphere: Animal, Summoning [Conjuration/Summoning]
Range: 0   Components: V, S
Duration: 4 rds./level   Casting Time: 1 rd.
Area of Effect: Special   Saving Throw: None

When the caster utters the spell of creeping doom, he calls forth a mass of from 500 to 1,000 ([1d6 + 4] x 100) venomous, biting and stinging arachnids, insects, and myriapods. This carpetlike mass swarms in an area 20 feet square. Upon command from the caster, the swarm creeps forth at 10 feet per round toward any prey within 80 yards, moving in the direction in which the caster commands. The creeping doom slays any creature subject to normal attacks, as each of the small horrors inflicts 1 point of damage (each then dies after its attack), so that up to 1,000 points of damage can be inflicted on creatures within the path of the creeping doom. If the creeping doom travels more than 80 yards away from the summoner, it loses 50 of its number for each 10 yards beyond 80 yards. For example, at 100 yards, its number has shrunk by 100. There are a number of ways to thwart or destroy the creatures forming the swarm. The solutions are left to the imaginations of players and DMs.

That's true enough he only needs the one for the story now but you'll need to have them all listed. It is a be of a limiter on the character to guess which spells they will need for the day. It forces us to be creative in our spell use.


If you look at Ulthok and Sirene's character page you'll see they have access to a great many spells but are limited to how many they can ready to cast.


Also if you have them listed then we might be able to help suggest something in Q&A when we have an encounter.


In some tabletop games the DM discourges "Table talk", but Tann doesn't push that in here. The Initiative is not known to us so we can't plan consecutive actions of characters. That can balance our table talk. You could end up casting a spell on something someone else has finished off.


But always play your character as you see fit, we will react accordingly in response.


It took me a while to run Ulthok, what I saw in my head didn't always work out in the story.

So you need to pick your starting 3 level one, 2 level 2 and 1 level 3 spells and list them here in Q&A so Tann can put them on your sheet. Then you can use those when ever you like. But once used it is gone until you rest and pray to regain spells. Daily devotions should be part of you character. If you use that to change spells you need to let Tann know that so he can list them.

I've been talking with Tann and suggested we add an archive of past character sheets. My thought was that it might help new players create a character quicker by seeing some past builds.


Some folks are great at building characters.


I find it easier to edit a character instead of build one for scratch.


Do you guys think it could be helpful?


It will take a little time to convert the Microsoft Works files.


Wonderblue, if you'd like to see another Mage type character let me know and I'll send you one to look over.

The four of them followed the young girl and soon found Lother and Sirene following what appeared to be the girl’s twin. As they approached a door the two girls merged into one. Then opening the door she motioned then forward,”Please.”


Passing through Ulthok felt he was crossing a magical threshold but it was too late to prepare. Looking he saw there was the most beautiful of woman seated at a desk, an extremely beautiful women with red hair, green eyes, and an aura of pure charm, passion and lust. The Halfling wanted nothing more than to please her. Then as her words reached his ears, “So the spell worked, wonderful I was not sure that I would see you in this time once more.”


Ulthok’s thoughts cleared as he realized he’d been charmed by the lady sitting on the other side of the desk, only it wasn’t a lady, it was the great Dragon Goddess  Kakaranatha. Being drawn in and charmed Ulthok could tell this wasn’t going to be a “Thank you” social visit.


The great wyrm in human form continued,“So sorry I sometimes forget about that. So the six of you survived I must say I’m truly glad of that especially you Lady Enchantress. If not for you I would not be where I am now……. Howeveeerrr”


Ulthok thought, “Here comes the rest of the story.”


“That leaves me with a problem. You see only you six remain who know the truth of how I got to be Loki’s death and a god and not of the stories they tell of me and my good aligned benevolence. …..So I have brought you here to offer you choices. I cannot allow you to tell the truth of things for that would be bad for me. Yet I owe you a debt for freeing me and giving of your free will this knowledge of future events. So I offer you a gift, my help when you need it most but only once and only when you call.” Before her on the table an amulet shaped in a dragons wing bearing the symbol of Kakaranatha appeared. “This when broken will summon my aid but for a single time. However at any lodge or holding of my followers upon presented with this will welcome you free of pay to lodge and rest.”


The mage knew the other shoe would drop, “If you should not accept my gift then I will destroy you here and now and watch as your ashes fall to that place you call Trilogy.”…….“So my friends which do you choose my help, or your deaths.”


Ah, and there it is,”Ulthok knew they had little choice in the matter Kakaranatha had all of her power and all of her magic, turning them to ash and covering her trail would be a simple matter. There was little wiggle room left.


The party silently considered the offer then Lord Cor spoke,  "Well ye offer a most interesting bargin.  Before we agree, I want ta ensure that in exchange for our acceptance ye will not take action against us, initiate actions ta harm us or allow harm ta befall us if ye ken it was going to happen.  In addition ye offer your aid to us once at a time, place and manner of our choosing.  In exchange for that, we simply keep secret your true aligment.  I cannot speak for the others as we all have our own choice to make but if that is the bargin ye offer it is one I can accept."  But Cor had spoken for them; it would be suicide to speak anything other than the same as Cor and for that matter it might doom the rest of the party.


Cor always had such a way with words and now even just repeating back Kakaranatha's offer it lead to a tense momnent.


“Dwarf you did not hear me did you. I offer my help only ONCE, I offer HOSPICE from my worshipers on your travels and I promise non of MY people will cause you harm as long as you remain quiet to the truth of things. I do NOT promise to protect you from the harm of your many other enemies should they seek to kill you even if I KEN it. Choose now for I start to lose my good will.”


Looking across the desk to Kakaranatha ulthok addressed the goddess, “We know of no other stories and have seen your benevolence first hand. Based on that and your current  benevolence I stand with Lord Cor, though his words may have seemed rash, and I accept your offer.”

To replace spells it takes a long rest and posting that you are studying spells. The rest is 8 hours or more.


Now there is a spell called Rest that can cut the time in half, I believe it is a Cleric spell.
