Freemen’s Way
North West Dock
Drefast

~Positive Tide is normal
~Negative Tide is rising

After Dorothy had spoken her will to help, Pao felt the need to make a confession. It was quite a speech he gave, and when he was done, they were all silent for a moment. Though nobody said anything about what he had said, it was clear that they appreciated his honesty.

Percifeer took the opportunity to rise from her chair to demand the attention of the crowd in the common room. After half a minute the laughter and buzz of conversation had diminished and only a few whispers and noise from the kitchen broke the silence. She thanked those in the crowd who had helped them defeat the Sea Cat, but ultimately she asked for their help in aiding the orphanage and its patron. When she was done, more than a few people raised their glasses in salute, and a few ‘ayes’ sounded, but nobody seemed to have anything to share. Slowly the murmur started again, and attention was lost once more. Dorothy looked at Percy with eyes that betrayed that she had low hopes for aid.

Ocyari was ready to continue conversation in their own midst, and inquired about Dorothy’s travels. The older orphan looked at her, and started to smile at the kid’s enthusiasm.

“Alright then, I’ll tell you about my journey.” She leaned in before continuing.
“I don’t know exactly who my employer was, but I got in contact with a woman named Elsbeth Greenbook, who said she represented a third party. She asked me to deliver a sealed letter to a librarian in Throthgard. She would pay me a lot of money on my return.”
“I accepted, and was in Throthgard two days later. I met the librarian, gave him the letter. He asked me to stay for a week, because he wanted to return a delivery. I didn’t mind. Throthgard is a very old city, and there was much to see. But when I returned to the librarian, things really started getting interesting. The man was shot with an arrow as soon as he handed me two scrollcases. I ran for my life, and was chased all the way back to Drefast. They even killed my horse a few miles before the city gates. I was lucky to escape. Then I waited for Elsbeth to contact me again, and three days ago we met. I gave her the cases and told her about what happened. She didn’t seem shocked or anything. I don’t know what was in the cases, but it was something important.”

She eyed Ocyari apologetically. “I can’t say I’ve noticed anything different in Drefast since my return. Everything seems to go as it always did. But you know what? I'll stick around this inn, so that if people come up with anything, they know where to find one of us.”

how about drawing the map yourself in a drawing/photo editing program? That's what I do usually, though it doesn't give a grit.

Just to clear things up: Only one round of combat passed after the wyvern attack. The third arrow Malius shot was because of an attack of opportunity.

For Tann: an attack of opportunity is when an opponent makes certain moves that involves moving through your area.

well, in the orphanage you've been informed that there were 'problems', but you've only heard NOW what they are exactly.

Updated...

There is definitely something to gain in this situation, otherwise I would've skipped this whole part. Please don't discard it lightly.

Freemen’s Way
North West Dock
Drefast

~Positive Tide is normal
~Negative Tide is rising

"Where do you want this thing? I can get it where you're cooking." Percy called out to the crowd, and people burst out into joyful cheers.

Several men aided the sorceress, hauling the creature with the ropes she had given them, into the direction of the Freemen's Way. It was the nearest establishment with a kitchen, and making a fire on the damp, wooden docks would not be a good idea.

The Freemen’s Way was an Inn that you would miss if you didn’t know of its existence. It was hidden in the shadow of the First Thunder River Bridge. A dull glow oozed from the stained windows, and the door was of an oak so dark that it seemed a shade itself.
Inside the Way, a big man with a black beard and a wide brimmed hat introduced himself as the owner, and guided them into a steaming kitchen. It was dinner time, and on several tables in the common room rested plates that had been left by guests who had ran outside to spectate or aid in the fight. Some of them returned to their plates, others sought a place by the fire to dry their soaking clothes.
The cook’s eyes widened at the sight of the Sea Cat, but was delighted at this new challenge. A little later, plates with the most wonderful Sea Cat dishes were brought into the common room, which was crowding up fast.
The innkeeper came back to the group, and announced that their drinks and meals were off charge because they brought so many customers to his otherwise quiet house.

The Sea Cat proved to be an interesting find. Its flesh was meat-like, but with a salty and loose texture that reminded of fish. The customers around the group of orphans were delighted by the cook’s work and the richness of the available beverages, and soon the establishment breathed homeliness, frivolity and comradeship. In the middle of this buzz of enjoyment were the companions, and on their mind was a more serious matter. Dorothy bowed closer to the others, as to better hear what they had to say. When they were done with their tale of the orphanage being wrongly accused, and the penalty that hang over Ormander’s head, she leaned back in shock. The old man meant a great deal to her too, but more did she think about what would happen to the young orphans who were still under his guidance.

“I am afraid I don’t know how I can help you. I just returned from a job outside Drefast., so I have not been exposed to a lot of gossip or something.”

Ocyari refers to 'Almerin', when she means Ormander. Right?

there is no way Ormander would send Ocyari to help out the older 'champions'. But she could've easily said that to Pao, so let's say she did.

So she's there ilegally, but what can you do... none of you know she's lying.

The Chakran Mnts
15th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
9:12 pm

The battle had suddenly taken a different turn entirely. All attention was now on the wyvern and its rider, who where a black silhouette against the milky moon. First one to react to this pressing opponent was Malius. The ranger had been ready to fire his bow for a long time. He had been told to wait, but would not hold his arrows now that the illusion of Chakrandrum warrior-spirits had been broken. He fired two, swiftly following each other, aimed at the eyes of the flying creature. But it was no easy feat to shot at such precise target, and both arrows missed the wyvern’s head by inches.

Alyssia was clutching her stomach, as a reaction to pain and an attempt to keep her intestines from falling out. The whole in her body that the tail of the wyvern had made was enormous, and the vicious hook had stirred her body heavily. She could not think, but instinctively cast a healing spell with the last of her strength. The wound closed, but the healing did nothing to prevent the poison from harming her. She fell down, exhausted.
Thondrek called out to Geim to hand him the potion of Spiderclimb that they had received in Sylvaria. But the Khordaldrum cleric had a lot on his mind, and started rummaging through his pack. Thondrek had to wait.

The wyvern had no intention to wait, however, and swooped down again. It chose Malius as its target this time, for he had been the one to defy it with a counter attack. The creature swooped down, and as it flew overhead Malius had a chance to put a quick shot into its belly. His arrow struck the monster, but it would not slow it down. With another vicious swing, the sharp end of its tail buried itself in Malius’s flank. The pain that erupted was excruciating, and a big amount of poison was pumped into the ranger’s flesh. Still, his reaction to it was not as heavy as Alyssia’s, and through the pain he realized the green goo was not affecting him. The wyvern flew overhead and returned to its high position, out of range of melee attacks, but not before the rider had thrown a dagger at Elessarae. The blade missed her completely.

The bladesinger was quick to respond, and threw a spell in front of the monster that erupted a bright light out of nowhere. The Wyvern shrieked, and flapped its wings and swung its head frantically. But Elessarae was already digging in her sacks to retrieve an antitoxin that Geim was asking for.
The cleric of Kharox was still looking for the potion of spider climb. When he finally found it, he flung it at Thondrek. With a quick reflex, Geim turned and caught the antitoxin that Elessarae had passed him. He rushed over to where Alyssia was laying, ready to cast a spell that would hold the effects of the poison. But when he touched her body, she did not react. With all his healing experience, Geim could tell very soon that she was not breathing, and that her veins were no longer pumping blood. Her face was no longer in pain though, but expressed a peace and tranquillity that was normally vacant on battlefields. She had joined her goddess, though her self appointed task remained unfulfilled. Perhaps the plan for her was never to return Draven to the path of light, perhaps she was just a touch of joy and living to the dark man’s life.

(OOC: I’m stopping here, to give everybody the time to rethink their actions. I know Thondrek is still up for his spiderclimb-hop-the-wyvern, right? Alyssia is dead, through an unfortunate initiative roll. There is nothing you can do for her. I’ll message Cdn to let her know what happened. Though I regret losing characters, that is something which can happen in dnd-games.)

Breecher accepted the stones from the half Sylvari Cleric, and lifted Pio in his strong arms. Holding the knight in the most comfortable position possible was no easy feat. Pio was still wearing his armor, and it said a lot about Breecher's strength that he carried such weight without appearing encumbered. With an understanding glance at Pao, and a nod to the others, the big man trotted away.

But as soon as Breecher had left the docks, Llammoth stepped forward.

"I'm sorry, guys, but I'm going after him. I can't let Pio wake up without a familiar face to greet him. I cannot let him leave alone. I will see to it that he is treated well."

A moment later, the half orc was lost in the crowd. The crowd; it was still standing there, though some of the people left, others were still vividly talking amongst each other. Some were pointing at the orphans, some at the creature that lay on the docks as a drowned animal.

"Alright, my brothers and sisters," Dorothy began, "We should do something about that beast. After that, we can go into the Freemen's Way and catch up."

(OOC: anybody got any plan for the creature. You can also choose to let it lay there, if you don't want anything with it.)

Hey Utan, just read your first post, and I'm pretty pleased. I would like you to change something though. Throughout the adventure, we've come to know Pio as a man whose positivity and peace were his most important features. To call him a bully when he was a kid is a bit too much to assume. It's possible that he once was, but since Ayrn's no longer here to tell us if it's alright, I'm going to assume that Pio was not one to bully.

Hopefully you'll forgive me for making this request. I know it's no fun to edit one's post, especially if it concerns a major factor.

Beinsel didn’t waste any time before tending his skills to Pio’s benefit. While his music played, Miran hauled himself onto the dock and cried an energetic burst of defiance towards the dead monster. Some of the people in the audience cheered and clapped as a response. Percifeer however, was not thrilled. If she cared that Pio was not moving, she did not show.

But there was more to the knight then a simple unconsciousness. Although Beinsel’s words and melody healed the wounds on Pio’s body, the fellow orphan did not open his eyes. His breathing was raspy yet steady and he looked as though he would get up any minute. But as time passed, the knight did not move, and showed no sign of change. Finally, Dorothy spoke up to her brothers and sisters.

“I think it is best if Pio is brought to a special healer. Breecher here will take him to the temple of Lysora.” She indicated the muscled man who had jumped in the water to retrieve the knight.
“I think we need to have a talk.”

Just as Breecher was about to pick up the soaking wet Pio, two familiar faces emerged from the crowd. One of them was Pao, another one of Ormander’s orphans who they knew well. With him was a young girl, no more than ten years old. They had seen a glimpse of her, earlier, when they visited the orphanage. The two made their way towards the group.

(OOC: Welcome Reralae and Utan, to this game. Your characters are ready to interact!
For everybody: as you know, Ayrn has left this game. But I’m not going to let Pio die yet. Still, he is injured beyond what any of you can do at your Level, and he needs healing from a high cleric. He is out of your hands now, so you can focus on the adventure. Dorothy is ready to take you all into the Freemen’s Way, the inn where you were going to look for her. Don’t be afraid to take your actions into the inn and start asking question.)

LoL, it seems we are continuing then.

I'm going to put up recruitment thread for one player.

Rer: you are very welcome to join us. I'd like you to make up a new character please, instead of a fey-ish creature. As soon as you know what you want to make, send me a message, and we'll talk about getting you on board.

Guys, I'm glad you're all so willing to keep this going.

that's too bad, Ayrn. Hopefully things will quiet down a bit. As for the game: Pio will get a good burial.

For all the other players, we face ourselves with a bit of a problem. We've lost yet another player, and though I'm willing to put up a call for a new one, the question is if we want to continue. Lately post frequency has been reduced to a minimum, and we basically have 3 players left of which 2 take a very passive approach. That doesn't help the continuation either, though it's possibly due to character nature.

So: are we dropping the game, or are we calling for 2 extra players? Your choice.
