I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass on this one then. I can't commit to a lot of posting, with my own game going, and the rest of my life being quite full. I'm not going to be half a part of something either, since that won't do any good to anybody. Games like this usually have a shooting start, which I won't be able to keep up with.

But people out there: Join this game! It sounds really promising.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my update, but the old man isn't sitting in front of the library, but he's sitting in front of the house next to it. Which looks very much the same as the first house you guys inspected back at the other town, where an elderly couple lived.

But he's not the librarian.

Used to be that films came out here long after the original release date. Now it's the other way around sometimes. I think it might also have to do with pirating.

Have you ever seen 'We need to talk about Kevin'? You'll never hear the word bow and arrow in the same way. I always have to think of that movie. Horrifying.

Went to see The Avengers last night. If you're going to see it for what it is: a hollywood blockbuster with your favourite superheroes, it's really great.

It takes a moment to build momentum and to introduce the characters one by one. When they get together initially there is a lot of tension, some of which feels a bit unnatural / illogical. Doesn't diminish the fun however.
And when the big action does kick in... it's freaking awesome!

I honestly think the teaming up of superheroes couldn't have been done better. It flows quite smoothly with each of them getting equal screen time and in the final battle there are some inventive symbioses between them.

Oh, and the Hulk rocks. You won't understand that until you see what I'm talking about. Best part of the film.

If he wasn't already, writer/director Joss Whedon is one of the big boys now. I'm so very glad they didn't let John Favreau do this one.

Go see it.

Like others said: pick the rules that you're comfortable with. You have a big pro to most of us and that is that you do know the rules. For fresh DMs to pick up the books and just start without knowing anything is much harder.

I would keep it simple with their characters. You should probably do a round before you start playing asking what each would want to play. Then go ahead and sculpt the character for them (fill in the sheet etc).

After that you just go for the game. Drag them into the story. If an opportunity comes where they'll need their sheet, you can tell them.
This way, they'll learn to read their sheet one step at a time, at moments where they'll actively use the information you provide. It will be easier for them to learn their way around the sheet and the game mechanics if you pick this route.

If they enjoyed it, they can always create new character that suit them better at a later moment.

Hey, I'm supposed to say those kind of things!

What Aleric said: take your time. I'm not throwing anybody out who can't post. Riau hadn't contacted me, still hasn't btw, and I pretty much knew where things were going.

For the others who haven't posted. I'm going to wait until Monday with updating. Weekend is booked fully.

Only one reply yet? That's a little less than I had expected, I must say.

I will push the update day forward to Monday, but if I have time, and everybody has posted, it might be earlier.

I'll quote a song that I recently learned:

Safe travels by Lisa Hannigan

Please eat your greens
and don't sit close to screens,
your eyes are a means to an end.
And I would be sorry if, due to your hurry,
you were hit by a lorry my friend.

Like you always say,
Safe travels, don't die, don't die,
safe travels, don't die.

Don't walk on ice, no matter how nice,
how sturdy, enticing it seems.
Please cross at the lights
and don't start fires or fights and
don't dabble in heights on caffeine.

Like you always say
Safe travels, don't die, don't die,
safe travels, don't die.

Don't swallow bleach
out on Sandymount beach,
I'm not sure I'd reach you in time my boy.
Please don't bungee jump
or ignore a strange lump
and a gasoline pump's not a toy.

Like you always say
Safe travels, don't die, don't die,
safe travels, don't die.

Spooked? Oh, it didn't get me spooked... just extremely... extremely... excited to see next week's episode! The whole promise of the game has been changed with what just happened.

But yeah, that's what I was talking about. I purposely don't read the books. Don't want to know what is coming, and don't want to be disappointed when they cut something. Cutting things is critical when translating a novel to the screen, but you don't want it to be that certain character or passage, you know.

I think the last time I was enjoying a TV show this much was with the first and second season on Lost.

Subject: told you it would be short

Leaving the intimidating stare of the lifeless puppet behind, the group decided to head for the town, despite the wizardís warning that refreshing spells was perhaps not such a bad idea. But even as they descended the smooth hill it felt as if the thing was watching them.

Soon they turned their attention fully on the town ahead. It was situated in a small valley of grassy fields where cows grazed and farmland where wheat whispered. From a distance they could see that the village was quite large, consisting of more than just a few farms and sheds. People were walking the streets, going from shop to shop or bringing their children home from school. Farmers worked the lands surrounding the town and the occasional guard greeted the grocerís daughter behind the outdoor stand. It was a peaceful town, it seemed.

As the group approached, the main road traded its dirt for cobblestones which were neatly placed; a welcome change for their feet, compared to the harsh grounds of the misty forest. People stopped doing what they were doing as they passed, staring at the strangers with more than just curiosity. Their gazes were cautious, their faces bordering on stern, giving only the slightest nod of welcome.

Then they rounded a corner, and recognition dawned on them. The townís square wasnít very large, with stone and plaster houses lining its pavements. They noted a library and an old man sitting in front of his house cutting a wooden sculpture with a ground down knife.
One of the buildings supported a sign depicting a campfire with a wild boar skewered on a stick above it. Golden letters curled below it: The Boar on Rotation.

(OOC: Going to stop here to see the look on your face.)

My update this evening will not be overly long... I think. Your reactions don't have to be either. So updating on Monday is a possibility, but not a necessity for the upcoming week. We will see what happens.

Ayrn has opted a spot in this game, in Riaucard's place. I gave him the green light, and I'll PM Riau about the situation.

Tomorrow is update-day. If we don't get any more reactions I'm going to assume you guys are heading towards the town as a group, against Arvin's suggestion to stay out in the open. Having the prospect of a good bed might be, in contrast to sleeping in the woods one more night, a good enough reason to forget being overly cautious.

Also, I'm going to open up a recruitment for another player if Riaucard hasn't posted by then. If there is one thing I can't stand it's disappearing at the start of an adventure without notice.

I think it has to do with types of people, not male or female. I know guys who only play melee-types, and I know guys who will always return to the wizard. Everybody has some kind of preference.

Maybe it has to do with there not being too many female players out there (oh yes, their number is growing, but it's still a vast minority)?

If you really want to investigate this, get an all-female D&D group together. See what happens.

Anybody ever experienced that?

Subject: update

Alright... about this week's update:

1) I'm going to wait with updating until Thursday, giving everybody the opportunity to reply to Arvin (Phelan) concerning approaching the town or not. This is the group's decision, not mine to make. You can also take this opportunity to do something else (think of a tactic of approaching the town if necessary / scouting ahead / doing something with the doll in the tree / refresh spell list / build the Eiffeltower out of twigs).

2) I can't look into your agendas, but if you are going to post something that involves responses, or something that will evoke responses than please post before the weekend. You give people the time to reply before Monday comes. Monday is my best day for updating, since the other days tend to get occupied pretty fast.

3) I haven't heard from Riaucard. I sent him a PM, but no reply yet. No post without a heads up means disinterest for all I know, and if it happens a second time I'm going to look for a replacement. It's too early in the game to skip a post without a notice.
I know life outside the forums is way more important, but I need to understand why you don't post IF you don't post. Also, asking for a delay is very possible, but on the same terms.
