Topic: When the Silence Breaks... Subject: turning in for the night
As Rueban rolled up the Letter of Sponsorship, he turned and nodded slowly towards his companions, taking only a single key, and leaving the three others on the barstool behind him for his colleagues to deal out amongst themselves.
To the innkeepers request, Reuban replied without turning. "We'll be gone with the clearing of the dishes from breakfast, that with their cleansing so shall you be rid of us, though all the same you have my sincerest gratitude."
Turning to the others. "Get some rest, Gunther, prepare to set out before the sun's rays have fully stirred the lark from her slumber." With that, Reuban turned and headed towards his room, glancing at the small number imprinted in the head of the simple key.
Once alone in the solitude and peaceful silence of his quarters for the evening, Reuban finally removed his armor, piece by piece with a loving touch. His cloak was folded neatly and placed atop a simple table by the door, while his breastplate was sat upon the wash basin. With a stretch of his now unhindered muscles Reuban went to his pack, and removed some of the basic armor maintenance supplies his old friend had gifted him with.
With loving care he oiled and polished his armor, all the while humming the music to one of his favourite childhood gospel's heard every sunday at church for most of his life. There was something profoundly self cleansing in the simple act of maintaining his armor, as though to clear the dirt and grit of the road, or from time to time blood of combat was like a shower for the soul, and as the tempered steel shone with renewed luster, Reuban always felt as though his own heart beat just that much stronger as Liris' emblem stared back at him.
"This will be a trying journey Mother;" he said to knowone in particular. "May I have the vigilance to watch over my flock of wayward sheep as you have watched over me. I trust their hearts are set on the right path, even if that path is not one of enlightenment. Perhaps with enough time, I may show them the glory of your ways, and have the voice of that bardess singing your praise."
With a smile at that thought Reuban rose, moving over to the bed where he stripped down, allowing cool sheets to caress warm flesh. Placing his sword sheath against the bedframe within arms reach, and a dagger beneath the pillow as a common bedtime practice, Reuban drifted into slumber with thoughts of glory, adventure, and perhaps one of his travelling companions to ease his way into dream.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: the Unsung Heroes Q/A Subject: hmm
Flying drow, assaulting bards, weeping mages and tactically fubared paladins oh my! lol..
I will tell you all now, that with organization, the challange increases, so further combat will be slower (on my part of rolling and deigning specific targets etc etc)
So Teamwork will be key to the possibility of success.
I will draw a rough Graph paper map and scan it in in the morning to possibly help, though I'm sure the decription suffices for now, maps always help with round by round actions.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes Subject: Posted!
Far to the north of any ‘civilized’ land, and too far south for the elves of the Wealdath to do little more than watch and pray the foul Bolikar’s rule wouldn’t turn his attention to their beloved woods, it was up to a handful of strangers, brought together by happenstance, fate, destiny or the whimsical nature of Tymora perhaps. Whatever the reason for their gathering here and now, the dealers of fate had dealt them their hand, and with it they would do all they could to bring down the seemingly stacked house.
Many of Bartholomew’s group had already pushed the threshold of the structure, using everything at their disposal to keep those gates from being shut, and either entrapping them within the compound with overwhelming numbers at their sides, or worse, separated from the rest of their company, with little hope of escape or aid.
While friend and stranger alike battled for a foothold within the structure, it was Linnix who turned her attention away from the carnage now behind her, to scan the darkness for any sign of the snipers that had attacked only moments before. Linnix’s eyes were far poorer in these conditions than her dark elf companion, but she trusted in her instinct to make up where sight failed her. Drawing her bow, she waits, for the slightest shift in the shadows of the tree lines cast by movement, and when it comes, she lets fly her arrow…
~*~*
Elendil and Bronwyn were at odds, the ranger’s history filled with skirmishes and battle, her instincts telling her to charge the keep, to slay all who threatened the livelihoods of the innocent or her kind, to put down an ally of the goblin horde as though they were just a withered limb, ripe with infection, needing only to be severed and cleansed by her blade. The mage however, was little more than a well-to-do farm girl, whose impressive theoretical know-how and book smarts had not seen the chance to be put into real world practice, and as such, her still innocent eyes were filled with horror, her heart filled with terror, and her stomache filled with ever rising remnants of whatever might be left within.
As the two women came verbally at odds, each yanking Buttercup’s reign’s this way and that, the pony eventually siding with Brownyn, and adding her own considerable weight against the ranger’s pull had made it clear they would not head towards the keep. Unfortunately for Buttercup however, she would not be heading anywhere except perhaps a compost pile, as Linnix’s wild shot into the dark, missed the archer who grazed Aelistae, missed the caster whose magic missiles passed them by, and sank full to the fletching in the poor pony’s skull. (Linnix had something of a 20% chance to hit Elendil or Brownwin, 30% for the pony (larger target) and 30% to miss and rolled a pair of natural twenties) The shot was so clean, that the women didn’t even immediately notice the arrow, only that Buttercup had stopped her struggle, and simply lay down in a heap. Her laden back toppling to the ground as a few odds and ends rattled around in her saddlebags. And that was the wake-up call for Bronwyn that reaffirmed that she was not dreaming, this may be a nightmare, but she could not simply close her eyes and wish it all away. Her life as she knew it had just been shattered into a million pieces, and her only true companion now lay dead at her feet. The only person before the mage was Elendil, who even for all her lengthy years of life was, for the moment, unable to find the words to say anything.
~*~*
Back in the Stronghold, Xaris’ Thunderstone impacted moments before he and the others, including Atharam’s own charge spilled into the ranks of the goblin horde. Goblins, fell quickly, with more seemingly endless replacements to take their place. The battlefield soon was growing higher as more and more bodies fell, but momentum soon faded, and it would become a battle of attrition through stamina and strength of arm.
Dylan’s Summoning of a Celestrial Wolf meant one more distraction, and Talus’ Baleful utterance made short work of a feeble club, only to have its wielder cut down by Aelistae’s keen blade. Xaris, Artanis and Intella moved away from the gate itself, trying to make for bigger pray, but the process was slow going, as javelins and sling stones were thrown, clubs and short swords and fists and feet kept at them and those around them.
The battle was hard fought to be sure, but it seemed like they were all making some progress. Atharam’s trio too were having a modicum of success against such vast numbers. At one point, Hawkril was pulled over the side of his steed Charger, and Atharam thought him lost, but just as quickly, a cry to Helm, and a thrust of his spear down for leverage had him back in the saddle, and fighting anew, looking little worse for ware. Seleyon however, for all her training in archery was forced into melee, the sheer number of goblins pulled and prodded her out of position, and with a Shudder, the gates were closed behind her as she hacked furiously at those around her.
Much like Seleyon, on the other side of the keep, Fate too was surrounded, outnumbered, and tiring as more and more blows passed his defences, whittling away at his fortitude and strength. To falter was to die, he knew, and with all the air in his lungs he bellowed out another warcry. “I shall not fall till Bolikar’s Dead!” Bolstering his own resolve he did all he could to outlive, and outlast his attackers.

(Health Recap after a slew of random attack rolls for round one)

Bartholomew finally pulled up, at the rear of the pack, crossbow in hand, and noticing Linnix’s attention turned to the woods he cast his own glance yonder, but could not see anything save shadows through the trees.
~*~*~
As different factions fought for a common foothold, the image of Bolikar gave one last resounding command, before fading from the sky. “You dare challenge the might of Gruumsh, of Bolikar he who is blessed! I shall squash you impudent infidels like insects myself!”
The fury of the goblins seemed bolstered by their leader’s impending arrival, and somewhere within the complex wardrums began to sound anew, as Hobgoblin Commander’s and Orcish Captains began barking orders. The goblins seemed to fall back, taking Attacks of opportunities aplenty, leaving many more dead as Gnoll’s with halberds began filling their ranks, keeping a perimeter around Atharam and Hawkril, while Intella, Artanis, Aelistae and Xaris fought to reach the mounted men. In a matter of moments, they were surrounded by a ring of goblinoid corpses, and beyond them, halberd points, and orcish axes each separated by a pair of goblin javelins.
(Gnoll Goblin Goblin Orc Goblin Gobilin Gnoll Goblin Goblin Orc Goblin Goblin Gnoll Goblin Goblin Orc… etc etc)
Those still at the Northern Gate, Dylan, Linnix, Talus and Bart were cut off from the others as a wall of goblins three deep filled in the space behind their more skillfull warriors, turning their attention to those few left unprotected. Seleyon and Fate were still on their own, outnumbered 10/1 by the little green bastards.
To complicate things further, A lone figure appeared floating over the southern expanse of the stronghold. Certainly not Bolikar by judgement of the lithe frame, spidersilk woven black robes hanging loosely over fine linked chain covering ebony skin, and silvery hair which draped over her feminine shoulders, but imposing just the same. In a voice carrying inflections of an all too familiar accent she spoke. “Bow mortals, to Bolikar, Blessed by the One Eye, and next to Ascend to the realm of Gods!”
Upon seeing Aelistae below, however she also added in a phrase in Drow, that only the priestess could understand. (sent via PM)

Topic: Forgotten Realms: the Unsung Heroes Q/A Subject: Update
As I posted, Work and RL has pulled me away from the inn for an indefinate amount of time. HOwever ,this game is the one thing I'm keeping up.
AS such the update's more than half done, I just need DM to respond to a PM I sent her about Elendil's intended actions as "Run to the keep" didn't give me alot to work with so I'm giving her time to give a little more imput. I must say the melee looks something like a medieval royal rumble when I placed everyone out on the battlemat for combat purposes lol.
EDIT: Just pray Brownyn doesn't suddenly have a taste for combat and fireball again...

Topic: Kaelyn's Possible Down Time Subject: Gone... Sorry!
Hey all, Work and some side ventures have stolen me for at least a few weeks, which means my stabilitiy to post is going to be nil since I've gone and taken on way more than any one man should in their right mind lol.
As such, I'm leaving word to all DM's I game in, I know I've recently joined a few, but feel free to NPc/ give away, or drop the characters, with my apologies, I'd rather not leave everyone hoping for a post and not come through.
As for the players in my own game. It's the one project I'll be keeping. So expect posts soon, even if it means typing them up on a 3 inch cell screen I'll get it done.
Anywho, here's to the night/managing/catering/larping/graphics designer whose got more to do than hours in the day allow.. Sigh..
and here's hoping it leads to retirement at 50

Topic: Forgotten Realms: the Unsung Heroes Q/A Subject: 100'
is the distance between Elendil (read enemy sniper) and Aelistae / the party. You who are double moving, are probably near the corner of the keep, rounding it coming into view as the arrows are shot as it were. So maybe 30-50 ft from Aelistae who is currently along with the other's blocking the gate with swarms of gobboes and greenskins on the other side... SO, assuming you've reached behind Aelistae where Linnix say is, there's less than 30ft between you and the enemy.
Update tomorrow!

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes Subject: At long last... Now.. who the heck is the enemy?
All it took was the explosion of fire and stone, mortar and goblin giblets to spur everyone into action. The direct assault upon Bolikar’s hold, the responsive shouting of orders and the closing of the gates meant that all time for slow, deliberate planning had run out, and decisive action needed to be taken to ensure advantage was found upon the battlefield this day.
From the east, Everyone took from their horses to the entranceway, some quicker than others as some sought to tend to their steeds, tying them off before making their dash. Aelistae led the charge, her lithe form fleeting between the shadows, as she rounded the buildings northeaster corner, Linnix, Jozan, and Intella right behind her, Artanis, Talus, and Dylan shortly behind them. Only Bartholomew had opted to stay behind for the time being, ensuring all the horses were properly secured, for to lose their means of fleet escape could cost them dearly. He too would join them after the initial confrontation cleared the way.
As the drow priestess crossed the threshold of the keep, a prayer and a battle charge in the name of her goddess spurring her steps, her direction was halted suddenly as an arrow whistled past her ear, to land in the earth before her, a second drawing a dark line of crimson across her cheek and slamming into the Wooden gate door, alerting her to the presence of danger at her flank. (Aelistae 34/38hp) Taking only long enough to cast a glance behind her, her keen dark vision enhanced sight was able to spot a pair of forms huddled behind the treeline, a larger creature behind them. There, that was where the arrows flew from.
And who could blame Elendil for such an action, as a drow of all creatures, the hated enemy of her kind, the surface elves passed into view, illuminated under the crimson glow of Bolikar’s projection overhead. At her rear came more enemies, a strange white skinned and glowing veined creature, another of like size gliding along seeking shelter in the refuge of the strong wooden gates no doubt. The armor clad woman, evil caster, and shadow wrapped woman all made their way for the keep, and Elendil would do all she could to stop them from joining the ranks of their goblin comrades..
Then, from the treeline as well came three darts of mystical energy came swirling towards Aelistae. Another attack from the trees it would seem. The drow could only raise her sword in preparation for the attack, but was shocked when the shards of light flew past her, to strike unerringly one of the goblins unfortunate enough to stick its nose out too far whilst pushing the gate closed. The dart’s exploded knocking the very much dead creature back into the swarm of others, only to be quickly replaced by another foul creature of the mountain caves.
Soon, the entranceway of where the doors were closing was filled with warriors, as Xaris, Aelistae, Artanis and Intella stood two abreast and two deep, with Linnix at their flank, while Talus and Dylan hurried to arrive in time. As the goblin’s noticed the enemy right upon their doorstep, many charged, to remove or capture those foolish enough to try and tackle an entire keep… only to be met with the cacophonous blast of Xaris’ hurled thunderstone, deafening many, as blood seeped from ruined eardrums, stunning more than a few of those caught in the center of the items effect.
(Will leave it here for change of possible plans, otherwise I’ll move straight into combat. Dylan and Talus can reply as arriving in due time as well)
~*~
From the west, Atharam spurred on Raykel, followed by Seleyon and Hawkrill in their favoured V formation, the lance tip at the arrow’s point, leading the charge into combat. From their some 600’ away, the horses would have to make full use of their pure blooded speed and stamina to make the doorway, but Seleyon wasn’t concerned with such trival things such as that. She would leave the steering to her horse, for she had other duties to attend to. Once, twice, thrice her bow twang went unheard, drowned out by the thundering hoof steps of the charging steeds. Her large, long arrows sailed forward, two of them catching an orc as he pushed the door closed, felling him where he stood, the third arrow sinking deep into the door itself, eliciting an under-the-breath curse from the beautiful copper elf, such was her goal for perfection. A score of seconds was all it took for the powerful mares to take the warriors to the gates of goblin infested hell.
Those gates would hold, they would not close, not until every last ill-blooded greenskin, monster, or bastardized form of life was absolved from this world, and with that in mind, Atharam and Hawkrill charged forward, into the ranks of the goblin horde. Atharam and Hawkrill’s horses biting and trampling as they went, lance and spear skewering those in their path. It was only by sheer number that their momentum was stopped, and the two soon found themselves surrounded by a sea of enemies. A glance about the area put a handful of strangers barring the north gate as well, A look of grim determination upon their face. The paladin was thankful to see reinforcements, even if they were strangers, but then he noticed she at the forefront of their formation. The dark skin, the long white hair, and the elegant looking blade which the holy warrior had known to have seen its share of kills….Drow!
With no time at the present to concentrate on discerning her intent (no actions left for a Detect Evil) Atharam could only focus on the sea of blood frenzied and panicked enemies around him and his squire, who was already trying desperately not to be pulled from Charger. In the gateway, Seleyon, bow in hand was still picking her shots keeping the doors clear of those seeking their seal, but she too was soon engaged by a teeming number of filthy creatures, their crude weapons raised for elvish blood.
In the far northeast corner of the central combat zone, Fate was first nearl deafened by the exploding thunderstone, then thought himself mad as Atharam’s gleaming form cut a swath into the heart of the goblin infestation, before being swarmed himself, and the arrival of so many more gave him cause to believe that Tymora willing, he may just survive this night. With renewed vigor, the strange warrior called out a warcry of his own, brandishing his ‘swallowtail’ to dangerous effect against any goblin or otherwise foolish enough to get in his way. “For the Glory of Amn!”
(Alright, while continuity may not add up exactly in seconds to rounds ratios, everything posted has been included in as best a fashion as to allow the flow and excitement of the situation to be maintained. By DM’s own words, I had her fire at Aelistae who cut across the Gate and tried to enter, which may in turn change Aelistae or the other’s response. Aelistae, Linnix, Xaris, Intella, Atharam, Hawkrill, Seleyon, and Fate can all see each other clearly, as well as the some three score or more (60+) assorted goblins, hobgoblins, orcs and gnolls scattered about. It is hard to see anything else beyond the confusion of the swarm.)

Topic: Auguries of Destruction - The Linsemptus Subject: Stranger's from all walks of life, bound by fate
As Armand and Deunan observed the other’s that entered the meeting room, strangers from all different walks of life appeared making introductions. Armand and Deunan in kind replied, introducing themselves, before a crash in the armoury diverted their attention long enough for another pair of individuals to make an entrance.
"Is this it?" A slightly gruff voice is heard.
"You've forgotten already, Akihiko?" Snaps the voice of an influential-sounding woman.
"Sheesh, you're not in a good mood today, Mitsuru." The first voice responds.
Quickly reaching the others already there, and standing in approximately the same spot as the centre two members of the Council were, the woman, evidently named Mitsuru, immediately introduces the two of them. She has long, dark red hair which falls over one eye, leaving the other, her left, in view. She is dressed almost as though she is at the same level of influence as the Council, with well fashioned yet functional and practical clothing and at her side is an elegant rapier. Beside her stands a man who is dressed casually, compared to Mitsuru; he wears a simple garment of one who is used to travel, and carries his jacket held over his shoulder by his right hand. He has short, grey hair and what seems to be a bandage above his right eye. In his left hand he carried a pair of spiked gauntlets, and is apparently a close-combat person.
"I am Mitsuru Kirijo, and this is Akihiko Senada. As you likely guessed, we are here to aid in this quest." Mitsuru says formally.
"Hey." Akihiko says casually in greeting.
"My actual purpose here will be partly to oversee this operation." Mitsuru continues, "Not as a commander of course, however, I will suggest you heed my advice; I am skilled at providing tactical information, and is thus why I was commissioned by the Council."
“Hail and well met you two” Armand replied, giving his name and that of his female companion in response. “It will be good to have one who can view any terrain as a potential battlefield, and assign the pieces of the chessboard to their most effective positions.”
Deunan had made off gfor the armoury, returning only after stocking up on enchanted ammunition, and sporting a better suit of full plate and longsword than her own.
There is a loud clang as the front gate opens briefly, and turning, everyone sees a person dressed in black, with a black hood obscuring their face, step into the hall. In their right hand is held a beautiful yet apparently dangerous scythe which seems to have a dull blue sheen to its metallic appearance. They step carefully, yet the noise of their footsteps radiates coldly in the hall. They are unhesitant as they approach the group, each step taken with care, yet each step deliberate.
Armand’s own completely sheltered visage, hidden by a quarter inch of solid iron that masked his face from view turned to face the newcomer, his innate ability to detect menacing aura’s failing to alert to the likewise somber dressed figure, female he guessed by the form of her walk, and the subtle swaying of hips with each deliberate step. “The fate of the world draws all kinds it would seem” Armand said, his eyes a golden glow behind the darkened steel of his mask observing the stranger’s Scythe with a keen interest, detecting it for any magical properties. (detect magic on the new woman) “Hail… and welcome to the ranks of those destined to change the future.”
