Subject: up above

Up above, the orcs had rounded the open door only to find a pair of elven fletched arrows sailing down the hallway at them. Both arrows thudded into the lead orc, staggering him where he stood, halting his advance long enough for him to look at the shafts protruding from his chest before dropping to the floor. As his three companions hurried past, Moonshadow stepped forward to protect Loriel, but was met by a short barrage of javelins. Two of the half-spears –sharpened sticks really—veered wide clattering against the wall and floor, but the third flew miraculously straight, catching the wolf right in it’s mouth as it bared it’s fangs at the enemy. The projectile tore through the side of Moonshadow’s mouth, blood spurting from the wound and preventing the wolf from closing its mouth properly. All the poor creature could do was wimper through the pain as it tried to bite through the haft of the crude spear. (-12hp Moonshadow) (16/33hp)

Artanis could see that her friends were in trouble, and decided she would chance bypassing the swinging scythe blade. She watched it pass once, then again, trying to get the timing just right as she prepared to jump past it on the left side while it was at the apex of its rightward ascent. Hoping she had made the right choice, she leapt past the swinging scythe, the blade coming back behind her close enough for her to feel the wind against her neck, the hairs on her nape standing on end.
At least she was on the right side of the damn thing…

Moving to stand on Loriel’s left, directly behind the wounded Moonshadow, Artanis readied her actions.

Kas approached the problematic scythe blade with a different line of thought. Drawing her daggers, she looked skyward, though her gaze was blocked by a stone ceiling. There, at the top of the chain to which the scythe blade was affixed was a mechanism which looked like a giant hinge. Half of the contraption was hidden in the ceiling itself, but she could see where the chain entered the casing. Hoping to jam the mechanism, she throws a dagger into the works, but the small space is too tough a target, and her dagger clatters harmlessly to the floor, much to the warriors’ dismay.

Xaris, watching the scythe blade which was half as large as he was swinging so close to him stood mesmerized by the almost hypnotic sway of steel and death.

The fall had jarred the senses from Aelistae and Linnix, but the sound of clicking mandibles and the sight of multiple shimmering eyes had sanped both women back to the fullest of attention. Linnix had kicked her candle orb in the direction of the beast the half globe sliding only a couple feet before being tangled in more webbing. The light shone on to barely cast the faintest of glow upon the creature, but not enough to grant a sense of depth or size in accurate proportion.

Aelistae of course had no problems with seeing the arachnid in all its horror. The creature was easily 10feet tall, with its legs stretching almost double the size of its man-sized body. Quickly placing herself between the spider and Linnix, Aelistae drinks from her vial of anti-toxin. With a curse and a prayer in the same span of breath, Aelistae drew her intricately unique blade of the ancestral surface elves, and prepared to fight.

Linnix, more than hapy to have a body between her and the hideous creature before them fixed a bolt into the chamber of her crossbow, rose to a upright position, and prepared to do whatever it took to survive.

Linnix was actually the first to act, not waiting for more of the spider to come into view before loosing a bolt from her crossbow with a faint ‘click’. The wire snapped and the projectile sailed for at incredible speed. It sank into the bulbous back of the spider which let out a stream of sticky web in response.

Aelistae attempted to move out of the way, but her regard for Linnix’s safety caused her to hesitate a split second, and she took the brunt of the web, which ensnared her in a sticky glob. She struggled against her silky prison, but could not break free. What was worse, was that the spider had begun retracting it’s webbing with it’s forelegs and clicked it’s mandibles hungrily as Aelistae was slowly pulled forward towards it’s hungry maw.
(Aelisae has fallen over and is prone and entangled.’)

Linnix, Doing the only thing she could think of, let her crossbow fall to the side and switched to her trusty daggers, and began sawing away at the strands of web which bound her friend. It took a surprising amount of effort to cut through the tensile strands. But eventually she had Aelistae free, and with little room to spare, for she was a mere 5’ before the monstrous spider as she rose to her feet.

Outraged that its meal might escape, the spider lunged forward, its great mandibles scraping across Aelistae’s armor, but not piercing it.

Free of the bindings, it was time for the women to even the playing field…

Subject: Mourn Evening Fall ~Post 1

The road to Drungelle had been pleasant enough. With few complications along the way and four weeks of travel under their belt, the journey had finally taken the companions to their clairvoyant destination. As the small community came into view Mourn was reminded of home, back in the treetops of Evermeet. Surely this place lacked the luster or grandeur of his city nestled in the boughs of the great forest, but the feeling of simplicity and hospitality held a nostalgic feel for the sun elf; it had been some time since he had ventured back to the safety of his native haven. He and Aramil had traveled the roads a long time his clerical companions his only constant anchor to the word they had left behind in the pursuit of answers and adventure.

As the quaint homesteads passed the companions on the left and right Mourn lowers the hood of his robes, letting the fresh crisp air dance across his fair skin. For a sun elf, he is particularly beautiful even for his race, and to add to his allure, he is rather toned and has the physique of someone who has traversed the Realms and gotten into a fair share of scraps, rather than simply sit behind stuff old tomes and scrolls all his life.

Aramil too, is honed for combat, the cleric of Mystra having dedicated her life to the teachings of the Goddess of magic, and to understanding the hidden properties of the mystical force known as the weave.

The cleric walks aside Mourn, her shield and Morningstar clattering softly against her metal adorned body as she walks, links of chain and plates of steel dinging faintly with each heavy footfall. As the party moves through the village, they are approached by an interesting pair.

" We welcome you to Drungelle, a small and cozy town that makes you feel right at home, no matter who you are."

She looked at the faces of each adventurer, looking from Raolonlo, Karlana, Mourn, Brendella, Aramil, and then even Maximillion. She looked at each one with a deeply saddened face, but tried to hide it. She looked at herself, and almost looked like she snapped out of a trance.

" Oh my, I bet your wondering why I am dressed like this. Well, its a sad story that I must tell you. But first I need to say that we need your help. Four of our beloved people have vanished. There names are Tren, Wenta, Jorsh, and my nehew...Ristim. They all have vanished. We have searched and searched but do not know where they are. I think it's just bandits wanting a ransom, and I expect to get one soon, but the parents of these young people wanted action now. I didn't know what to do, I am just glad your here!"

She takes a step back, and looks to the ground.

" Oh, I am sorry. You people have just come here and now I am throwing all of this at you. I probably just detered you away from here. I'm sorry let me properly introduce myself. My name is Venithia. And this is Dunalel."

They both smile and nod, greeting the party. Dunalel raises his wrinkled hand from her arm and speaks slowly.

" I would just like to thank you for coming to our town and as I have already been introduced I would like to add I am one of the priests of Chauntea that live here. I know Venithia has said everything that is needed to know to you all, and before you turn and go away from this sudden attack of information I would just like to say that there is a reward we have pooled together. It was going to be the possible ransom, but they dont need it."

He smiles and blinks slowly, as if age is slowly creeping up on him, ready to take him at any moment.

Mourn stood in calm silence, typical of him as his companions knew he was a man of few words unless relevant and pertinent to the situation at hand. Aramil however was much more openly opinionated in her beliefs.

“Bandits and brigands, the lot of them should be drawn and quartered. Their can be no place in Mystra’s… or Chauntea’s eden for lawless vagabonds and ruffians.” Aramil turns to her companions. “The visions we had have led us here, though we seek a reason as to why. Perhaps it is to save these four innocents. Perhaps these four are destined for future greatness themselves, if we but grant them the opportunity to live to see that future!” It was obvious the cleric was getting excited over the prospect of playing hero once again, but Mourn interjected with his analytical—if not often blunt—point of view.

“There has been no sign of struggle or ransom, these missing could be off playing heroes and goblins in the nearby vale, or even holding themselves ransom, awaiting their poor parents to send them money before walking home unscathed and claiming the victims role. We need more information before anything can be ascertained… When they went missing, where their homes and local hang-outs are… Karlana should be able to track anything that’s traceable, providing the weather hasn’t cleared away the path. But we can’t go anywhere until we have an Idea of who we’re looking for. I think Karlana has the right idea. Let us dine, and discuss the details relevant to the situation, then if deemed of dire consequence, our band can take up the chase. What say you all?”

Mourn let’s his question hang in the air, he respected the thoughts of those he chose to travel with, they would each add insight to this slowly unraveling string of mystery.

Team Kraken> Azure Skye>
A little perturbed Freekin would start combat so bloody close, the Druidess takes a step back (to A8 from the gnome and lets an arrow fly from close range for hopefully devastating results. At the same time, Midnight attacked, biting at the gnome's meaty calfs, trying to trip him and bring him down in one swift swoop.

Azure Skye> Kraken >Attacking Freekin

Midnight > Kraken > Attack vs Freekin
Attempted Trip attack-opposing strength checks
If successful Attack of opportunity with opponent Prone (-4 ac and dex of zero)

(for your convenience I'll repost CD points here for the new players)

I'm introducing something only the players of my original setting Nomachron would recognize, something to set this game apart from the rest. and with that I give you, CD points. (Character Development Points)

Once every Major Update (approximately 1/week) The Pc's will have the opportunity to each award one (1) CD point to ANOTHER Pc based on their post(s)throughout that week. CD points are given to someone who you think wrote an outstanding post, something entertaining, really in character despite character safety or gain, or generally an improvement or extra effort from previous posts. Players are NOT required to give out CD's every week. These are something special.

CD's are CUMULATIVE! And are not turned in. Each level nets you the listed reward! So lets see how this goes.

Character Development Chart:

5CD's: Monetary Bonus
10CD's (1 time bonus) +1 rolls, skill checks, saves for one encounter
(state in OOC along with post if you're using this)
15CD's Monetary Bonus#2
20CD's Reroll one failed roll (state in OOC along with post)
25CD's Magic Item of DM's Discretion
50CD's Get on your knees and pray card- (Dm may intervene/fudge a roll to save your hide-since you're such a credit to the game)
100CD's -bonus Level

CD points can be given roughly 1 / week... I've gotten / added a couple... but it's a new week and new opportunities arise.

And I've decided I'm going to participate in awarding 1 CD point per week as well, to add to the mystery of who'se adding what... I may give one, I may not, just like you all.. so enjoy!

Subject: Moving along...

Moonshadow is quickly able to ascertain the scent of ogre, but seems confused as to a definate direction in which the smelly creature might have most recently taken. With everyone safely holding a few light orbs, they proceed down the Right corridor, Moonshadow now in the lead alongside Loriel, with Artanis and Xaris behind, and Kas, Aelistae and Linnix trailing behind.

Moonshadow stalks the stone corridor as a predator its prey. The wolf easily bypasses the still blade hanging from the ceiling with Loriel at his side, but a single step too far sets into motion a series of events that would put the companions in serious peril.

As the wolf's paw activates a pressure plate, the entire center section of the 4 way intersection begins to rumble and shake. With Linnix and Aelistae still in it's range, the two panic as the floor beneath their feet falls away, taking the two of them down with the rubble of stone and debris into the darkness below. Kas however was quickly able to leap into the sturdy corridor behind Xaris and Artanis, pulling herself up even as her feet tried to push off against crumbling stone.
(Both Aelistae and Linnix unfortunately failed their reflex saves)
~~~~~
Separated from the rest of their companions above, the two fallen companions could not see that the trap that had been set was only the beginning. For the others above, the Pendulum swings of the scythe blade resumed, and though both Xaris and Artanis were able to step back to avoid the deadly device, they were now cut off along with Kas in both front and back from their companions.
Creak...
Creak...
Creak goes the metronome of mayhem..
Creak...
Creak...
Creak...
To top things off, the door on the right side of the corridor, mere feet in front of Moonshadow and Loriel opened with a crash, and four orcs wielding half spears and ragged patchwork leathers stormed forth to engage the intruders…
~~~~~~

Down below, Linnix and Aelistae were recovering from a nasty fall. Judging by the impact which had nearly cracked Linnix’s collar bone, the women figured they had fallen at least a good 30’ before coming to a most abrupt and painful halt on the hard floor below. (Both Aelistae and Linnix has suffered 11 damage from the fall.) The room they are in is pitch black, save for two of Linnix’s orbs which survived the fall (the other two have cracked and no longer produce light).

The orbs candle light illuminates only the shimmering silver threads stretched high and far throughout the room and as Linnix scrambles to stand, her hand passes through the sticky filaments causing her to cringe in disgust. But her poor vision perhaps was a blessing, for she was unaware of what Aelistae’s darkvision allowed her to see. In the corner of the room which was a 30’ square, perched on strong but thin webbing was a massive furred spider, who at the sudden disturbance turned from its pile of desiccated bodies and revealed four pairs of blood red eyes at the duo and clicked its mandibles hungrily.

(Linnix currently suffers from low light penalties due to her pair of orbs on the floor aside her.. Enjoy!!)

Peering down the right tunnel awhile, the keen drow eyes, (and those of anyone else for that matter) can see from the illuminated walls that a massive scythe blade has fallen from the walls and ceiling and now hangs still in the middle of the corridor. For all intents and purposes it looks as though it were once a trap, but somehow it was set off, and now lies dormant, still and in plain view in the middle of the corridor about ten feet down the right hand tunnel.

Further on, a wooden door can be seen set into the right hand wall about 10' beyond the trap, and the corridor ends in a 90 degree turn to the left another 10' passed the door..

Subject: Anyone got some paste of stickiness?

With some elbow grease, a dagger tip, and some luck, Loriel, and Linnix are able to pry two orbs apiece from the walls. (everyone else interested can claim a couple if they want before leaving the hallway in darkness) As Linnix tries to stick the orb on the end of her torch however, she finds the ancient paste which once held the orb to the wall has lost its hold, and falls easily from the torch end with minimal movement. While the orbs glow faintly, the party can hear a low creaking coming from down the right hand tunnel ahead. It’s creaking is in a steady motion, like the ticking of a clock.
Creak…
Creak…
Creak…

Silence.

remember... Everyone but Linnix has low light vision or better.. and the orbs provide 'candle' light not torch light. But I see where you're going with the some light is better than no light Idea.

Linnix suspiciously ran her hands gently over the candle impersonating orbs. The light flickered under her touch, but provided no heat. The globe (much akin to a standard snow globe in size) can likely with some strength or ingenuity be removed from the wall.

As for Loriel's question, none of the religiously inclined members of the party can relate the horse headed figure to any pantheon they are learned in.
