Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes Subject: journey to the center of the earth?
The alcoves may have held treasures and wealth, but the companions were of one mind to continue past them and onward, deeper into the cave. They continued on slowly, trying to keep as quiet as possible down the sloping earth beneath them. As they continued onwards, they noticed the ceiling overhead grow distant with the gradual descent, until it was easily some eighteen feet overhead. The group continued for another ten minutes down the long sloping corridor, passing another four alcoves along the way. The first two contained a barrel in each, upon which sat a tarnished silver candelabra with burning black candles casting their flickering light across the alcove. The second pair of alcoves, another 60’ down the path held less valuable ‘treasures.’
Nailed to the alcove wall on the left hand side is a goblin, long since dead with a spear through his gut. The naked creature looks to have been tortured for some time before finally succumbing to the pain. In the right alcove, a gnoll has been similarly tortured and impaled upon the alcove wall. The grisly sight is enough to leave a memorable impression in each of the companion’s minds. Leaving the creatures in the alcoves until later, or perhaps period, the companions continued downwards. After another 200’ the slope began to even out, the ceiling of the cave now loomed some 25-30’ overhead, with small stalagmites growing out of the roof. The natural walls turned into rough hewn stone and the floor was graded. As the group observed their newfound surroundings, they realized they had stumbled into some long ancient underground complex. The path continued another 20’, with glowing orbs of light the equivalent of candles attached to the walls at 5’ intervals providing some low light, eliminating the need for the torch. At the end of the 20’, the path veered left, right, and continued straight ahead.
It would seem this wouldn’t be such a simple endeavor after all.

Topic: For Whom the Bell Tolls Q&A Subject: Bridhvale... and bounty
Vorrioch we still need the info on what we managed to loot from the fallen hobgoblins.. (with such a hefty toll being exacted every copper counts lol)
suggestions in Bridhvale:
These are my suggestions, do not take them as fact until everyone has a chance to discuss their opinions.
Sell the telescopes to Abraham. none of us have the skills or knowledge of what the starts might do to influence anything further... plus it saves us 200 crowns.
Return all of the Potions... (we can get them back when we decide we're going to finally take on and tackle that damnable dragon) (saves us 800 crowns)
I'll load up the other items we currently can't use... which is everything so far as I can tell looking at character sheets, and we'll stow them in the chest under Bishop abner's watchful care while we're out on the adventure)
I'll try and sell the large ogre armor to the local merchants... even if they can't use it as a whole piece, the materials should fetch something and none of us can use it.
Again with the large Axe.. noone here has a strength score nearly high enough to wield it.. and it should fetch a fairly high price at the trading coster... I would think an enchanted axe of that nature would sell...
any thoughts.?
~~~~
As for adventures... I'd rather search a crypt than ogres... zombies don't hit as hard, and morally I'd see emmerus trying to lay undead to rest... but.. if the ogre camp is clsoer to the village than he'll go ogres.
Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes Subject: into the dark
The cave hung before them in a eerie silence. Having determined a marching order, the party decided it was time to flush out the ogre and put an end to his roadside terror. As they entered the cave the vines hanging over the entrance tensed and uncoiled as they reached out for Xaris, the leader of the pack, and lightest of the companions. As the vines lashed out for the gnomish warrior, Loriel spotted it at the last instant and pushed Xaris forward, leaving the vines empty handed. Knowing the danger that lied in waiting, it took little time for everyone to make short work of the animated plant. Threat level returned to normal, the cautious team proceeded into the foreboding darkness of the cave. As they neared the alcoves on the left and right side of the cavern, Xaris and Artanis (formerly barrbarra) carefully peered around the corners.
To their eyes appeared treasures presumably claimed by the ogre in the past. In the left alcove stood a bronze statue of a horse headed man, with ivory inlays and eyes of crimson hued jewels which reflected the torchlight. The statue stood as tall as Xaris, but seemed not to have been properly cared for in some time as dirt dust, and even some signs of rusting had begun to form along the seams.
In the right alcove, perched atop a wooden crate is a small chest (approximately 1 foot wide by 4 inches thick and 6 inches deep) The chest is of simple wood, with tarnished brass couplings and hinges. This too seems to have been neglected for quite some time.
Thondrek, snapping out of whatever daze had befuddled him, donned his Guisarme and slashed at the creature from behind the immediate melee combatants. How he wished he could speak for he was cussing up a storm, but for now, he would be happy with a little lizard blood spilt upon his blade.
for all intents and puropses, whether it's my house rule or an actual one... acheiving a higher intelligence mod wil garner yo a new language, however it must be one that another pc or npc can teach you, or you have ready access to.. Ie you find along the adventure the complete elven to common dictionary lol.
By all means feel free to rp wanting to learn new languages or asking here (or checking character sheets) what languages might be available for tutlage.
with your darkvision you can see the sloped ground goes 60 feet or more beyond the scoe of your vision. The cavern looks natural, from years of erosion and windwear, coupled with sorratic workings from tools and other man-made methods. you can see that abou 30ft in the cavern there are two small alcoves leading off each side, but cannot see their contents.
Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes Subject: Cavern into darkness
It would seem that the decision had been made to head south in pursuit of the Ogre. It couldn’t be ignored that this side venture would take the companions further off trail, and further delay them from their task. With every choice of aiding another in need, they put themselves further and further from the keep, the task, and the rewards at hand. Bartholomew simply shook his head as his clients all decided they would be off and running, their morality superseding any prior obligations. What could he really say though, when he thought about what he’d be feeling if his wife and child were endangered, he’d likely be in the same boat as the old man. “We ride.” was all he said, turning Alice around to join the others.
“Please… bring them back… in either case bring them back kind people.”
As the man hoisted himself up into a kneeling position, he cursed the Ogre’s existence out to no one in particular, and standing set about putting out the already dying flames of his wagon.
~*~
The companions moved with all the haste their steeds could muster. Moonshadow could easily follow the Ogre’s scent, it hung heavy in the air like a noxious gas to the wolf’s keen nose. The coterie moved to the thundering of hooves. They traveled south for almost an hour passing into the foothills which bordered the river. As they neared, the first signs that they had found the source of the recent trouble was apparent with the slaughtered remains of presumably the travelers horse. Large chunks had been torn from its flanks, the horses entrails pulled forth and coupled around its other innards in a pool of crimson staining the green grass red. Bartholomew turned from the sight, Elesia audibly gasped. Behind the horse’s remains nestled between two small foothills lay a cavern of foreboding darkness. The ceiling hung low at only 8 feet at the entrance, with thick vines hanging over the entrance of the rocky opening into the earth. The slope of the ground seemed to descend gradually, but even in the rising moonlight the companions could only see a score or so feet into the depths of the cave.
I'm under the impression scrolls / potions are alot more expensive than 50gp / spell level..
If that were the case, I'd be throwing around earthquakes for 450gp a pop lol.
Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes Subject: Choices
The sun of the light couldn’t break through the gloom that had settled over the traveling companions. The sight of the crucified brigand turned cultist was burned into their minds, and the thoughts of the rogue vigilante ‘Cardinal’ did not sit well with some of them either. The ‘local legend’ was a dividing point of sorts, with some admiring his resolve, some questioning his methods, and others outright objecting with the thought of one man taking upon so much power and authority unchecked.
With a grim resolve the companions moved along, mounting their steeds, and continuing once more along their original trail. Bartholomew found it strange that Kasenerrion had so easily been incorporated into their little shindig, and so spurred Alice alongside the strange woman of golden eyes and sun kissed platinum hair. “Excuse me miss.. Are you feeling better? That mark on your noggin sure looks tender. You’re more than welcome to travel with us to Castle Tethyr, but from there we make north across the wilderness for a quest most urgent.”
(allowing for back posting and conversation)
The group moved on with great haste. Traveling into the evening with the sun hanging low on the horizon before them as they chased the last of the clinging rays which grasped at the landscape with the last of their strength. As the night began to win the ever repeating battle against the day, the group came across the remnants of a wagon, plumes of smoke rising from the burning canvas, splintered axles and shredded cloth. The horse was nowhere in sight, but the battered form of a broken old man lay on the ground before it, clawing at the dirt as the party neared.
Elesia, without thinking fell into spell song, sending her lyrical healing over the man, who straightened somewhat, forcing himself into a sitting position with his back to the rest against the remnants of his cart.
“Thank you strangers, but you’ve come too late I’m afraid. You might as well have left me for dead for I’ve lost all that’s worth living for.” As the companions gathered round, the man grunted through gritted teeth as he fought back sobbing tears. “An Ogre most foul has claimed my wife and only son Marcus, even my horse. Dun dragged them off to his cave to the south. I can’t bare to think what he might be doing to them..”
Loriel could easily make out the signs of struggle in the tracks, and a heavy large set of deep footprints along with the scuffled dragging prints of at least two others, a human and child leading to the south. In the distance, those with low light vision could see foothills off in the distance.
The man was a disheveled wreck, battered and broken, his heart broken beyond the healing magic of any spell or potion. Night would soon overtake them, and yet another obstacle had presented itself.
I work both nights, starting at 11pm my time, but we usually finish playing around 8-9pm my time so either day is fine. If Ayrn can only make it saturday (which means Brianna/DragonMistress won't due to their real life tabletop game) what it really comes down to is swapping one player for the other... one can make some friday sessions, and some can make saturday.. SilentOne and I can make either.. so really it's your call DM.
Topic: For Whom the Bell Tolls Q&A Subject: here's my thoughts.
My Thoughts as to bounty spoil shares.
Ayrn - Aranel Eärfalas [Elven Mage/ Thief]? Or Devlin Burrberry [Halfling Thief]? 78gp 144sp 5cp
Brianna - Isilfeline [Elven Fighter] 78gp 144sp 5cp
Kaelyn - Emmerus Zane [Human Cleric] 78gp 144sp 5cp
Silent One - Arys Lotusbane [Elven Ranger] 78gp 144sp 5cp
That’s equal distribution of monetary wealth (with .5sp left over spent on random lodgings upon our return)
Carry items to a larger town for identification and selling.
Splitting books between the members, (that’s perhaps 10 books a piece) because we have two elves, and two people (me and Ayrn) that have special interest in ancient languages and such.
That’s my thoughts… yours guys?
Emmerus will indeed return the scroll and the oil flasks to the township, seeing as he has the contents of the chest now for some booty. (Dang skippy you drag that thing all the way to town at 42 years of age lol)
(I do still ahve on my sheet the potion of CLW that cdnflirt gave Emmerus btw)
Once I know which original players aside from SilentOne will definately be continuing, we can discuss diviing up the spoils, with a healthy thank you contribution to Aranas the strange mage who popped in and helped without provocation. (Ayrn's character)
