I was hoping to post today but still feeling under the weather as is most the family. Will try tomorrow and maybe give Bromern a chance to post.

My only hesitation in what Ody wrote was the putting Gator in a room. My thoughts are Wyatt would want him off the ship ASAP. So I am more think if having the ship land, toss Gator and then Tess takes over.

Subject: that would sound like wisdom except

thta everyone standing around waiting for someone else to post is a lot like doing nothing.

As when I post you can assume certain actions will be met by other players. So you put that down in brackets and move along. I promise I will sort it out in my post if I need to.

For Example:

"Hi Captain. This is John. He is gonna help me rewire the electrical system for free"

(assuming Wyatt says yes)

John and I head down to the engine room....

If Bromern post that he draws and shoots John in the head, then it is up to me to sort out the details.

So less waiting and more posting please or I will post on Sunday and I will assume what is being done by your characters.

I appreciate the well wishes and thoughts on my birthday. Unfortunately I am not feeling very well due to a summer cold that is beating me down, but I will recover eventually.

Thanks.

I think that the alliance vs Browncoat can make for interesting character development and story. Consider that John Ryan did medical evac so basically nevered fired a shot vs Tesss in hard combat. Two completely different world views that might be at odds but might learn from each other as well. The important part (for the plot points) is the balance of conflict and resolution you play. Anyone can play conflict, heard to roleplay accepting that your world view isn;t the only one that is right.

Hoping to move this along by Sunday. So please, post them if you got them!

I like the lead in. Works well. When Gator is "rejected", Tess might think she has the job but then would still have to audition and compete with John.

So we have a nice long weekend coming so I hope to see posts from everyone and then I can move things along.

I think the Doctor is a acquired taste. I watched the fourth doctor as a kid and think of all others as frauds. So you are safe on this island.

Yay to Supernatural and Burn Notice. Not familiar wIth Eureka.

I love Sherlock Holmes from the books and hold Jeremy Brett as the best Holmes closest to the source. But I have enjoyed the new versions in theatre and his new bbc series.

Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike colour change for the text? Red on Grey is hard enough to read without more colours added.

I have had a few people ask about the updated characters on the site. I am just getting off being sick for three days and I will get to it when I have a moment, which is not easy to perdict.

Excellent posts all around. Thanks to everyone. Robert, you truly outdo yourself.

Just a note on the ship and the "damage". Nothing is major, in fact it is very minor as relays can be reset, the GD can be easily realigned. Not that it is something to be overlooked, they should not be pushed like that in normal use but it won't take a lot of time.

As to posting. I won't be updating the game until next weekend so you have time for backposts and story telling. My week is a busy one so don't expect to see me much except at night. Please keep up the great posting though cause I love to read it.

Yardiff Bey was walking to the pool with his eye on a particularly gorgeous lady in a string bikini when all the suddenly ....

*WHHHOOOSHHHH*

A transport ship buzzed over his compound at a breakneck speed and sent tables, chairs and guests flying. The wind generated from the thing almost put out his firepit! He was trying to calm down his guests when the gorram BUN tyen-shung duh ee-DWAY-RO flew pass again. This time the draft hauled half of the water out of the pool and dumped it directly on Yuri and his A-list clients.

“What’s going down Yari?”

“It’s the Feds!”

“I’m all wet!”

“We gotta get out of here!”

“No!” Yari called out and raised his arms. “Please, relax. I will deal with this. Trust me!” He walked around assuring everyone that things were okay and that he would take care of the situation. He snapped his fingers at the women and servants to make sure people had distractions from this disaster. He had no idea who it was that flew by but they would not be allowed to ruin his day. No one ruins Yardiff Bey’s Party.

He activated the communicator on his multiband and signaled his men in the hanger. “Boys! Get the Angel in the air. Find the Ching-wah TSAO duh liou mahng in that gorram Go tsao de transport and take them down. I don’t want enough of them left to do a DNA trace. Take everything!!!!! Dohn Ma??

Gator is pulling rapid shifts in a ship without communicating with the mechanic and having no rapport or knowledge of what the ship can handle. He is flying hard with no love or appreciation of the vehicle. Simply put, he is hotdogging on a first date.

Tess can do much better for sure because she has respect and love for the ship even never have flown it before. She'd have "felt" the first relay blow, probably did as Gator was flying.

Subject: Beaumonde, Baker's Gully, 3:00 PM PT.

OOC: Before you start reading, think of where your character would be during a flight audition and how they will react to what is happening. I assume Wolf and John will be in the engine room. Trish is in the Galley. Wyatt, Tess and Gator are in the cockpit. Asher and Willow? In your rooms perhaps?

Wyatt set Rocinante down in a field. Some locals told him this would be a good place to do a flight test and not bother anyone. Baker’s Gully apparently was owned by a farmer who used robotic cultivators so no workers or prying eyes watching. Nothing but corn fields and sunflowers for as far as the eye could see.

After a brief “impress me” talk and a warning that they if they scratched Rocinante they would be leaving and if they damaged her they’d be leaving by the airlock, Gator was first up to try out. The electrical problems that were plaguing the ship had subsided now, as Wolf had found a guy who knew something about the tech problem. Wyatt appreciated that Wolf knew when he need help and wasn’t afraid to ask. Some mechanics would keep saying they got it covered as the ship fell from the sky. Anyway, this John Ryan was on board and still working with Wolf on making sure the problem didn’t come back. John was here to try for pilot as well and Wyatt would give the man a chance afterwards.

Gator was the first to take the controls. The tall man moved into the pilot chair with ease and started the usual per-flight initiatives with ease. The ship lifted off the ground, hovering under the power of the side engines. Gator flipped the comm. button for the engine room.

“Wolf dude! Let’s get ready to rumble!!!!” Gator called out to the engine room.

(assuming a response of “huh”, “what”, or “Don’t call me dude”)

Gator pushed the power level up and rotated the thrusters. The ship fell a number of feet and then took off across the sky at a high speed.

“Weeyooo!” Gator cried out as he dipped the ship down close to the ground and the crops as if to show how close he could skim the ground. He then did a hard turn and buzzed over a small valley before rapidly shutting down the starboard engine, causing the ship to spin, but then re-engaging to straighten out and buzz the valley again. He then banked around again over the valley, doing a barrel roll with Rocinante and then move into a steep climb into the black.

In the engine room, Wolf and John watched as multiple relays blew one after another due to the strain of the sudden speed. Unable to do anything except reset the circuits , the two men sscrabble to keep the engines from seizing up. Then the rapid ascension threw the new Grav Dampener out of alignment and it struggled to adjust. Throughout the ship, people were tossed around as artificial gravity was lost for a few moments. John and Wolf are tossed like rag dolls across the engine room and struggle to not be thrown clear across the ship. From the Galley came an awful noise and the stock pot that Trish was using to make soup came crashing to the floor, spilling soup and protein nuggets everywhere.

As the ship enters the black, barely out of atmo, Gator puts the engines into hard burn. The sound that the crew was used to hearing, like a horse galloping the length of the ship, began as always but this time it wasn’t running like a spirited horse enjoying the freedom of a pasture. This time, it sounded like it was running scared and all hell was chasing.

(assuming that Wyatt will end the audition at this point, either with or without violence. As soon as the ship stabilizes, Trish will be heading up to the cockpit with shotgun in hand and death in her eyes.)

Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA
Subject: Destiny

What I have suggested with Destiny is this. The Bounty Hunter entered the ship via the Shuttle and Jason was killed by him quickly. Ken attempted to take him out but was killed as well. The Killer was looking for that Companion's med card and didn't care how he got it. Jon attempted to engage him but Tess and Stephanie pulled you away as it was suicide (maybe Steph had to drug Jon).

Grace got the med Card and lead the BH on a merry chase through the ship. Never realizing that she was drawing him into a trap, Grace waited for Tess, Stephanie and Jon to escape in the shuttle then lead the assassin to the engine room where she rigged the engine to explode.

Watching from the shuttle, the three of you thought that Grace died in the fiery explosion. Actually she triggered the explosion remotely as she put on a suit and stole the Bounty Hunter's ship.

Grace would not leave Destiny behind so she was attempting to tow it with the small interceptor ship when the Feds you met on Greenleaf found her. Grace made a deal with them to give them the wine/diamond so they could close their case and she got immunity and a tow to Beylix.

As soon as she got there, she took "her" share of diamonds (Not like Sanders counted them), sold them and got to fixing the engines. Very difficult as many parts have to be retooled. She also wants to lie low for awhile because as long as Higgin's thinks the ship was destroyed, he won't come looking. Grace plans on repairing the ship then contacting the Companion's guild with the med-card to make a deal to get Higgin's off your tail.

Jon, Stephanie and Tess spend several days in the shuttle before you were found and brought home. Jon and Stephanie have discovered each others love and are exploring that now as they wait to hear from Grace. It will probably take a couple of years before Jon feels the need to fly and Destiny is spaceworthy again, but the time will come.

I never mind clarifying what is going on in the story. A simple mis-type can cause a whole lot of confusion and delay. If I ask "are you busty?" instead of "are you busy?" and the whole meaning changes.

The Trish is a typo. It should be Tess.

Tess and Gator have been taken on board. You have already done the interviews and initial simulations. You are about to head off to a "quiet area" to do a real audition. Basically fly up and around, go to the Black and come back and land.

Celeste - You can post your character's back history, or thoughts on waiting, the number of people in line, the interview, or the simulation. Yes, you have to wait to post your flight as Gator goes first but there is a world of other things you can post about to give the crew an idea of who and what Tess is about.

Interaction between players is moving things along too. As much as i want to get you into the black and hauling dynamite for farmers, this mini adventure can play out. We have to wait for Celeste's first post and I know Vanadia wants to post as well.

The important thing in the timeline is I need John to be near the cockpit when Tess is doing her audition. But I have to write in Gator's audition first which should be fun.

Somewhere on Beaumonde

Yardiff Bey, or Yari as his friends would call him, looked out on his estate and smiled smugly. Today is my day. He thought to himself as he looked down upon his guests mingling with the women he’d hired to entertain that day and evening. On the far side of his property, pass the in ground pool, servants were tending to the many whole pigs he had roasting over a big fire pit. No one could say he didn’t known how to throw a party.

It hadn’t been always like this for Yari. He’d been born with a disease that made him weak, difficulty breathing and the like, and his father, being a underworld minion low on the food chain, had to work hard pay for the operations and medicine. His dad resented him a lot for that – used to call him worthless, insipid and weak, said that he’d been better off if he choked to death instead of being a burden on the family. But his mom was always sweet and caring for Yari, always there for him and always told him he would be someone some day, so in his mind, Yuri dedicated this day to his mom, may she rest in peace. She’d died when Yari was 18 years old, just after he received his final treatment and a clean bill of health – like she held on long enough to make sure he’d be alright.

Of course once she was gone, Yari used his father’s underworld ties to make a name for himself and then strangled his father to death on the one year anniversary of his mom’s passing. Not so worthless and weak now he had thought as he watched his father die. He then sold his two brothers and sister into indentured servitude for a tidy profit. The thought of them toiling away on Higgin’s Moon without a hope of escape, cheered Yari immensely when he thought about it. Without that startup capital, none of this would have been possible.

But today, he had all the big name crime bosses of Beaumonde here on his estates. They would drink his wine, eat his food, do his whores and remember his name. He was playing in the big times now and this would be his day. He was the major supplier of dreamdrowse on Beaumonde, with robot cultivators tending to his plants in between the corn and sunflowers he grow. It was a sweet setup and the money was very good. Of course some local farmers got wind of what he was doing but Yari knew how to deal with that.

My secret of success? Oh I treat everyone like they were family!
