Subject: .

Ghustel sat up in his bed, legs draped over the side of it rubbing his head. He had been up for about an hour already, but had only been thinking of that one week that had changed his life for ever.

Ghustel had lived many years on his home planet of Rhenon, and enjoyed it. As a child the death world he had lived in seemed like a giant play ground. What would kill a man from any other world, he and his friends would toss back and forth, playing catch on their spare time.
The village he lived in consisted of a few dozen houses that had thatched roofs, and mud walls. Thick jungle engulfed the whole world, and within these jungles horrid things happen. Writhing beasts of flesh and claw spawn and it gets easy to look for ways to escape these monsters. As was the case of the rebellion of Rhenon.
The feral tribes of Rhenon that dwelled deep within the jungles were all but cut off from the world, and them and the outer tribes almost never made contact. This was like this for many years, and peace had rained. But one year a freak happening of nature increased the spawning length of the beasts of the jungle and many more of these creatures spilled forth from the depths of the woods, and relenting attacks on the inner tribes made them resort to any way for safety. The dark gods of the chaos found this like a disease would an open wound, and the infection spread. Within a year the rich green jungles of Rhenon burned. The smell of burning wood, petroleum, and flesh blanketed the world as close combat ensued through out the jungles. Leman Russ battle tanks were useless as the jungles blocked the paths, as were chimeras and hell hounds. The only machine remotely able to break the thick wall were the sentinels. But alone, these lightly armoured bipedal machines were no match for ambushes. The heretics would hide in trees, and wait for one to pass so they could spray the cockpit with gun fire, or just fire.
So it would come down to brutal a brutal infantry war, and with the coming of the Imperial guard came the unification of all the outer tribes. All together under one banner they rose to be a mighty army of guard, and their expertise in close quarters fights and the knowledge of the jungle made them invaluable. For months after this was realized, the war swayed to the favor of mankind. The rebels were pushed back through the burning jungles, many falling in their continental retreat. This was all common knowledge for any fellow Rhenon, but what plagued Ghustels mind was what happened during the few weeks that the war peaked at.

It was right when the Rhenion regiments were being sent out into the battle when he met her. Ghustel had been assigned to help the Phoenix guard IVth, some heavy trooper regiment. Him and his half regiment were assigned to help with flanking attacks and movement through the jungle. But along with them came one very out of place Chimera. From this vehicle a few men arrived, heavily armoured. They were most likely body guards for the next one who stepped out. A woman with an aura of authority about her stepped out, clad in jungle type camo and black cloak and boots. She was assigned with them because their mission was to assault the enemy head quarters five miles deep into the jungle. Intel had shown that ever since the new world wide push two weeks ago, the head quarters of the enemy became almost nomadic, moving around so they would not be caught. orbital pictures shown the last location of the HQ, and it was nestled in the crotch of a mountain range. They bombarded the peaks and few mountain passes of this range, and now the only way out would be through this gathered force. The Phoenix soldiers dug in to attack the mobile base if they would pull out, and the Rhenions were made to move in, and attack it; maybe catch it in the middle of moving. Well what happened was something astounding and that could only be found in the books of old.
They started to move out, easily traveling through the thick jungle forest. Ghustel and his squad was made to be personal guards to Inquisitor Carrigan Øravík, and also guides. Well they moved through the forest, and covered the five miles in two days. What they found was something none of them ever believed could happen.
A large portion of the forest was burned to the ground, and in its place an alter jutting twenty or so feet into the sky was in the center. Around it for about two hundred feet, was clear jungle, which was occupied by the enemy. Tents and cahes were about, but all were abandoned. The ones who resided in this camp were all surrounding this alter. Steps in the front led from the ground, wide steps about fifteen feet across. A massive pen full of the beasts of the jungle were at the top, and even now five men poked and prodded one of these beasts up these steps and into the pen. The five hundred or so heretics all were bowing and chanting to the pen full of the beasts they all feared, obviously in awe at what was about to happen.
As the gate shut to the pen, a light shown from below it, and the beasts started to howl and shriek and moan. Soon they started to kill each other, tearing into one anothers flesh, goring eachother to death. The slaughter was bloody, and soon the blood of these beasts ran freely down the intricate designs of the alter, filling in cracks and crevices. Where ever the blood touched, a faint light shown. Soon, one of the tribesmen started to walk up the steps, ignoring the puddles of blood he was stepping through. He approached the cage with his hands out wide, and started to chant. He bent down and picked up one the beasts organs, and drenched himself in its blackish red blood.
Ghustel was in horror, as was everyone else, except Carrigan. She knew what was happening, and quickly pulled out a bolt pistol. Before the man could fully accept the taint of the chaos gods within him, he was blown to pieces with six rounds of a bolt pistol. Battle ensued quickly as the rebels stood, and faced them. Their bodies and faces were scarred from months of self inflicted torture and burning, and the only thing they wore were the weapons they wielded. They had various weapons, some ranging from lasguns, others hammers. Whatever they had they fought like mad men with them.
Ghustel quickly jumped infront of Carrigan as one her body guards heads exploded with a shot to the face, and he cleaved down the attacker with his mighty sword. He cut a bloody swath through the attacking force, along with the rest of his kinsmen. The under nourished rabble that charged them only fought for ten minutes, before breaking like a wave on a rock. Ghustel rallied his squad and charged the fleeing men, cutting down dozens of rebels that were trying to escape.
That was four years ago. Carrigan requested him to be apart of her, to replace the fallen man. Soon he became a trusted acolyte. Now he found himself sitting up in a bed of grey and walls of black, wondering what was just said over the PA. He finally pieced the puzzle together, and someone named Piscivorus had been called down to Carrigans office. Ghustel glanced down to the fallen letter that he had, and realized who was actually being called down.
Ghustel sighed, and groaned as he stood, changing into some more proper clothes. His dark pants, black leather boots, and white beater were good enough for now. He rubbed his chin and realized that he would probably be asked to shave next time before he comes before her. But that's alright with him. If she could rescue him from the sweat and toil of being in an imperial regiment he could at least shave next time.

The group sat at the edge of the clearing, over looking the stoney outcroppings infront of them. They sat for a moment as Mourn identified the six potions with ease. The three light blue ones seemed to be of light healing, while the darker blue was of a moderate healing ability. The two greyish potions allowed you to see in the dark without the aid of any light.

( If you guys want, you could rest here at the edge, and then make your way further in later)

I would like to do the treasure like this. Group all of the treasure together at first, then you guys decide what goes to who and then I'll edit in their gear. And if you would like to keep it open to any party member to use, I'll leave it in group gear. I'll edit the treasure on the main page, and then you guys can talk it over.

The battle did not last long, for the ambush was poor and the fighters of same quality skill. The group felled all that stood against them, and even the ones who broke and ran. These kidnappers shant live if they could only pick on children.

The party made their way over to the dead, crossing the clearing they fought in. They searched the bodies, seeing if any clues or valuables could be salvaged, for the dead need no such things.

Karlana had stood and made sure that the battle was over, and checked her surroundings. Yes it was, and no more cultists were around them. She quickly asked if anyone needed healing, and to her relief no one did. No injuires to heal was better than having to heal any at all. She walked over to the one she had shot, and started to see what valuables he had on him. She rifled through his pockets and pack, and found seventy gold through out his belongings, along with eighty silver pieces. On his side sheathed away was a shortsword. Its hilt was made of ornate silver, and when unsheathed its blade was an unnaturally shiny steel. When Karlana held it it felt light, and easy to use. With a smile she tucked it away for safe keepings. Also was the suit of armour with two large arrow holes deep within it, and two vials of potion. One was a deep swirling blue, the other a greyish liquid that had wisps of silver within it. laying to his side is the shortbow with which he fired, and a spilled out quiver of about a dozen arrows or so.

Aramil patrolled around the battle ground, seeing if any more were hiding, ready to fight. Instead she found the path the cultists had took, leading straight from the direction the party the was headed. Surely these attackers had made the way much more easier.

Mourn walked up to the charred remains of what once was the supposed spellcaster. He bent down to look for anything good, and almost fell on back in surprise as he noticed the charred corpse of a small snake stared back at him. This he could only assume was the mans familiar.
Looking closer once again though, he noticed that the hooded half cloak he wore was burnt all the way through, but the studded leather underneath strangely was unscathed. The crossbow and bolts on his side were black and smouldering, and the book that once was tied to his side lay a few feet from him, the pages still flaking off into the air, burning as they go. The strange claw bracer he wore was only slightly damaged. It fit on his forearm like a metallic armband with three long blade reaching out past the back of his hand. The first inch or so of the three blades were all warped and bent slightly, and the rest of it hot to the touch, but other than that it was in tact. Inside of what once was a leather pouch were about fifty gold pieces, but most of them were super heated and melted toghether. Only about four of them were salvagable. rolling over the corpse though revealed a slim white wand, its shaft made of white polished bone, and in its tip sat a clear quartz gem. This wand was only slightly blackened by the fire, and with a simple rubbing it could be polished back to a sparkling white.
He walked to the other dead, and searched thier bodies too. All together he found a long sword of similiar make of the one Karlana found, and a total one hundred and sixty gold. He also found three sky blue potions, and another greyish vial. Of course the various bows and arrows layed strewn about the place also.

Brandalla trotted along with Max, trying to find anything that would help. They both moved in the direction of Aramil, further solidifying the fact that this is indeed where the men had come from. She patted him on the head, rewarding him for being such a useful companion once again.

So the group gathered together to move onward towards these ruins, past this forest and even further into this ever growing danger.
Soon enough, past when the trees were at its thickest, they cleared into an open area. This small clearing is only remarkable because of the many stones scattered across the ground. Up ahead the stones are more frequent, eventually resulting in a few areas entirely covered in stone, with only a few sparse plants growing among them. Some of the plants near these stony areas have been trampled down.

Lheriel was in amazement at the events that were unfolding infront of him. Truely this is the kind of thing that he had trained for in the past. To help the ones who need it the most, to break the grasp of fear and terror that it had on them, to cut the life force of these evil villians once and for all.
He continued to listen to the story and took it all in. He understood the risks involved, and understood the dangers of the task. Already one of their own has fallen from this beast, and they havent even accepted already. Truely this would be one of the hardest fought battles Lheriel and Jeskell have ever endeavoured. But only good can come out of this. The lives that they would save and glory that would be found. They had to accept.

" This story of yours is quite thrilling. The dangers of this mission were already shown to us, even before a word was spoken. Already one of our own was taken away from this beast, and we have yet to begin. If only to give revenge to the fallen ones, we must accept."

Lheriel turned to the group more to speak clearer.

" We are the last line of defence for all of the good in this world, and if we do not try an stop this monster, all of our lives will be wrought with untold terrors."

Jeskell spoke out too, slightly still in amazement in the story and the events from before.

" We would need to be strong, fight together, and come together as a group of heros destined for greatness. If we do go, we would need that if anything. Unity above all else."

Xaris sat in his room, above the commotion down below. He could hear the muffled sounds of the patrons talking and singing, and smiled at the good time they were having. He soon would join them, but needed to take care of some things first.

He slowly let the sack full of potions he had acquired earlier slide from his shoulder down his arm, and onto the bed side table. The sound of cloth shifting and glass clinking could be heard as it made its final resting place onto the desk. He looked up at the lantern illuminating his room, and then down at himself, and ran his fingers over the metallic studs in his leather armour. He sighed, and crossed his arms and grabbed the bottom of the armour piece, and slid it over his head. His medium length black hair ruffled as the leather armour finally made its way off of him, and the loose cotton shirt that had made itself caught on the armour fell again over his greyish green skin. Xaris tugged at his shirt, getting some wrinkles out of it, and then undid the buckle that held the leather leggings on. He bent over and unbuckled his leather boots, slid them off, and then forced his leather leggins off afterthem. He set the boots at the base of his bed, and the two piece suit of armour strewn out onto the bed itself. He reahched over and unbuckled his arm guards, and let them rest on the armour also.

Xaris looked over his own now armourless body, seeing the dark grey cotton pants he wore, and the loose off white shirt he wore in contrast. Of course now the shirt is stained with sweat and dirt, as are the pants, but he had nothing else. He looked at his feet, which had cloth wrappings around them. They were almost as good as socks, so he didn't see any need of replacing them.

He bent down and unwraveled them, letting his feet breathe for the moment. He dropped the wrappings onto the ground as he wriggled his toes, and crossed the room to a basin of water. He looked into the water, and stared into his own reflection.

Father, I look so much like you. In my two hundred and twelve years of life, I never guessed I would of been in this position. You would be proud of where I am, and what I'm doing. Please, take care until we meet once more

Xaris closed his eyes and laced his fingers together, and resting his forehead against them in a sign of prayer.

Baervan, watch over my family, do not let them go to far until I arrive. I am sure you know when my time will be, so do not let them worry. Tell them everything will be alright, tell them that I am on my way

Xaris opened his eyes, and stood up straight. He reached for the bottom of his shirt, and pulled it over his head, and let it fall onto the ground. He took his hands, and placed them over his pex, and looked down at himself again. He traced the tattoos that adorned his chest, which were two half circles, the rounded edges facing inwards, curving around his nipples and pex themselves. They were coloured black, and were large enough to end jus underneath his armpits. He slid his pants off, and climbed into the bath, where he relaxed for the next twenty minutes, soaking himself of the past few days stresses and problems.

Twenty minutes later, Xaris climbed out of the bath, clean and ready to meet his friends downstairs.

Friends... he thought, knowing that he would of never imagined that he would of met such a diverse group ever before he left the woods.

His wet tiny gnome feet made child size prints across the floor, the clothes gathered where he had laid them. He hoped that the clothes were proper enough to be worn to dinner, as they were the only clothings he had.

He looked around the room, and spotted some flowers in a vase, and took them, and rubbed them on his shirt. He hoped to mask the subtle smell of sweat with sweet smelling flowers, and might of even over did it. But the smell of fresh soapy skin and flowers should be enough.

He stood once more almost at the same spot as before, and dried off quickly with a towel, before putting back on his shirt, and then his pants. He wrapped his feet up gently once again with the soft cloth wraps, and walked over to his leather boots, and put them on.

Coming up from kneeling to buckle his leather boots, he took one last look around the room before heading downstairs. His javelins were leaning against the wall in the corner along with his sheathed sword. On the bed lay his armour, and the nightstand next to it his new potions. On the large dresser across from the bed lay his short sword, and the back pack with contained the rest of his gear.

He felt satisfied about how he had went though the day, and he listened once more for the sounds downstairs. As clear as day he could hear the muffled laughing and singing, and smell faintly the pipe weed and food being served around. He turned around and slowly opened the door.

He walked down the hall to the stairs that lead down to the main room, every foot step bringing him closer to the party. The sounds were getting clearer, and the smells getting stronger as he approached. He could hear distinct singing, and the foot steps of heavy dancers just below the stairs.

He descended the stairwell, taking each step with care, enjoying the slow arrival of this party to which he was going to. Each step brough thicker smoke, and brighter light, until he was at the bottom of the stairs, and just to his left was the party. He stood, and took in a deep breathe, and then turned walking slowly into the bright, smoke filled room of partiers and patrons alike. He instantly felt uncomfortable as the press of bodies around him forced him to pick and choose where he stepped, until he could finally see through the spacing of two people, the table at where one of his friends sat outside.

He quickly made his way past people, person by person, until he could find his way to the door. He stepped outside into the cool night air, already sweating from the body heat. Being at crotch level with all these humans makes it harder for a gnome to catch his breathe than normal. And harder to keep cool.

Xaris started walking towards the quiet table in the corner, until he started to hear a wonderful voice; a voice that obviously had more people than just him looking. His hand reached up and stroked one of the flowers in a flower box as he listened to the singing, looking around at who it was. He looked at Elesia, and knew finally where it was coming from. The woman wore a very elegant dress, which barely his anything, but just enough to keep it modest. He listened to her sing and swirl her wine, and smiled as she finished her song. The last few words echoed around in his head, as he looked up at the flower he was slowly running his hand around and noticed he broke the head off of the stem to where it dangled like a broken neck. He quickly snapped it off, and poked the stem through his shirt so he had a little pink flower on his chest. He smiled at the little ingeniousness of himself, and looked up just in time to see Elesia dance with Bart.

He remembered that he was walking to get a table, not sniff flowers, so he began to walk across the court yard, the sound of his foot falls one by one bringing him closer to his destination. He came up to her left, and pulled out the chair for himself, and climbed up into it, adjusting so he could get a good sitting. He took a deep breathe, as if he had just fought the hardest battle of his life trying to reach this chair, and he finally made it. He looked up at Aelistae and smiled, and immediatley noticed her very nice, no beautiful dress also. He looked down at himself and his loose fitting pants and shirt, and pathetic flower, and sighed.

It's alright though, clothes are clothes...

He looked up at her, and smiled again, only opened his mouth to talk also.

" Hello Aelistae. I hope you don't mind me sitting next to you here. I wanted to sit next to one of my friends, not with a bunch of strangers."

He looked up at her, and then to her sword, and up to her face again. He calmed down a bit, knowing who he was with, and began to feel a lot more relaxed.

" You look very pretty Aelistae, that dress fits you well."

He looked down at his clothes for a moment, then up at Aelistae again, and then sat his elbows up on the table, resting his head on his arms, tilting his head towards her to hear what she is going to say next.

Xaris took in all of the visuals and scents of the apothecary to quickly, and his head began to spin just a bit. He hadn't smelled so many different burning herbs since he was in Old Yyrniels tent. And he could of sworn this little old man was just a figment of his mind.

But he came to his senses quickly and seenthe potions infront of him. The prices were set out, and he was determined to buy as many as he could.

He pointed out towards this potion and that, handing over money as he went. When he was done he had selected out one neutralize poison, one neutralize disease, one cure seious wounds, four cure light wounds, and one strange brew. He handed over all thirty platinum, and three thousand, one hundredand fifty gold pieces. He also handed over the newly acquired gem to pay for the four potions.

" I thank you for doing business. These will come in great need along the way."

Xaris took the gem from Aelistae, and handed her the Ivory and. He could'nt do much with it anyways,so he gladly handed it over.

Fondling the new gem and the acquired fifteen platinum, Xaris stepped out of the tavern for now and headed into the streets. The one thing they lacked in the last encounter was proper healing after the magic ran out, so that was the first problem he went to solve.

He wandered the streets until he found his way to the apothecary, and slowly entered. He walked up to the nearest person inside, and spoke.

" Uhm, excuse me sir. But I would like to purchase some healing potions, if you had any. I do have lots of money, but I do not know how much the valuable potions are. How much would they be?"

The attackers made the first move, with one of the chain mail wearing hooded figures firing a bow into Rao. The arrow sail passed into the woods, cutting through the foliage rather than Rao himself.

Another one of the assailants rose up and fired, this time aiming at the charging halfling and her dog. This shot hit dead on, but glanced off of the armour on Brendella, flying wildly off to the side.

Finally the attackers did not have the jump on them anymore, and Karlana pulled out her bow, and fired two shots into the one who shot at Brendella. The two arrows penetrating straight through his studded leather armour, burrowing deep within his chest. His face twisted in pain and he clutched his chest, and blood trickled from the two arrow holes.(-11)

Brendalla spotted the wounded archer who had shot at her, and she charged. Just before she hit though, two arrows sank into him, and he turned just slightly enough to let the lance bury deep into his ribs, the momentum driving the lance deeper than it probably should of. The man fell over onto the ground, dead. He spasmed quickly and coughed up blood, then fell limp on Brandallas lance. (-8 )

It was Rao who went next, seeing the blood shed was eager for a fight. He charged the chain mail wearing attacker on their left, swinging his falchion at him with deadly accuracy. Two large gashed appeared as the curved blade naturally sliced its way through the chain mail and then the mans chest. Blood gushed forward as he fell flat on his face without even a movement. He was instantly killed.(-18 )

With the sudden shift in odds, one of the last two remaining attackers fired his bow at Rao, who had just cut down his ally in mere seconds. The arrow sank into Rao's shoulder, firmly lodging itself in place. (-4)

Next it was Mourns turn, who decided to release a fiery mayhem upon the assailants. The fireball landed behind the attackers, englulfing the spell caster, and the chain mail wearing attacker. Both of them didn't see the small bead sail past them, and the fire enveloped them both. They ran screamed and ran around while they burned, but quickly fell to the ground and succumbed to their fate. both burned alive.(-21 each)But so did the forest around them. A few bushes and the grass around the two bodies burned slowly, but didn't spread as the misty dew from the morning kept everything with a wet protective layer.

Aramil took aim at the last living hooded figure, his studded leather a large target to shoot at. The arrow hit dead on, but stuck in slightly, and then pulled out.

The last hooded figure looked around at his dead companions, and released a quick shot at Mourn, the arrow catching the caster in the side of his upper arm, grazing him just enough to cause a flair of pain and the trickle of blood.(-1) He dropped his short bow and turned to run, but was shot in the back by Aramil and Karlana. Two arrows quickly stuck into his back, and he fell to the ground. Some movement could still be seen through the twitching bushes, but not much.(-17)

Xaris smiled a big grin as he held up the red ball. The jeering from the crowd swelled him up inside, and he felt even happier when he realized that he won fifteen platinum!

" I thank you Angus, and this fun game of yours. I shall try once more to spin your cage, just for the fun of it. It's not like I am going to lose anything over all, right?"

With that, Xaris pocketed the fifteen platinum coins, and took out five more gold. He put them in, and spun once more. If this spin was for anything it was for the entertainment it gave everyone. He spun the cage slowly, and waited for the ball to come out.

Lheriel stood, slightly in awe at what happened. The supposed vampire grabbed one of them, and disappeared right in front of him. Jeskell came up to his side, and had the same look on his face. A quizzical look with anger mixed in. They fought this bastard and then he didn't have the honor to die nobly? What a fool he was. He will die someday.

Lheriel could only look on as Katriana pleaded to bring their first fallen member back. He noticed not as many tears were shed for their second loss as were the first. The circumstances befit the reactions though.

Both Lheriel and Jeskell check themselves to make sure they were ok, and waited to see what the priest would say.
