Thondrek turns

Thondrek turns as Malius speaks about fleeing and leaving the Khord's to die. Not that he said it in a positive sense, just bringing to light an all too real possibility.

Aye, yer legs may be longer but dun'ae count us out. If need be I can run as fast if not faster than you my good Syl, and have more than one trick up my sleeve or have ye forgotten the tree battle already har har."

"Let us pepper them with projectiles, I'll handle the boulders and one of you can run to warn whomever you think can be warned. When the time comes to break ranks, we'll drop some spells, scatter then and flee. Though where too I do not know since this is where we need ta be"

Elessarae

"Don't you think I would love to warn my people, I would and could run day and night to take the warning to them even when the Moonlit Castle is days away by horseback. If you mean the entire group of us to run all that way then so be it. For I will not leave any to be overtaken by the Goblins and their kind. And when we reach there we can tell them there are Goblins and Ogres over the first range of mountain."

Elessarae take a deep breath. "The Sylvari already know that. What the Syvari want is intelligence on the Goblins and what is happening here, a week of travel may keep us from finding out important information before all hell breaks loose. Then we will have to turn around and come all the way back and find another area to search. if Sylvaria in not overrun at that point."

"The High King has not been doing nothing, a week before Hith Elee he was marshaling his forces." She takes another breath"

"Fire on the mountain, yes. Delaying action yes. Run down off the mountain, yes. Then we go find a back door into this place and look for what you came for and what I was sent to find."

There is steel in her voice as she holds unwaveringly to her ideas.

Geim

Geim listens to the various plans that are being offered. Elesarrae announces that she will not run off and leave them to fight a regard action. Malius was ready to make that attempt though. WIth all that the others mentioned they might be possible to take out a goodly number of the enemy headed up the steep oath before they even got to the grassy meadow.

"Meaning no disrepect to you Syl, but I though you wanted to warn your people. I was not sure what you were here for Elessarae."

Well it Sounds like we could hurt them some and make them think twice about following us right away. Brush, barks. branches those we can gather and rocks as well. I could look quick t see if there is a way to start a landslide down on top of them though I don't think we have lots of time but some. After we throw all we can at then. I say we cut and find a different way into these mountains. The dead can't gather information nor find what we have been sent to find."

"Well everyone if were going to do this right get gathering." The dwarf Cleric of Kharox turns to check out the lay of the land above the trail looking for a place that rocks could be loosened and sent down of those below.

.

Loda nodded slowly at the idea of the battle

" Right, lets get to it. I'll create balls of fire to hit them with when they get within range, and when we are about to run I'll summon monsters, most likley wolves to hold them off."

Elessarae

Elessarae will work to find wood, branches, boughs, pinecones, and even goblin bodies and pour some oil on them ready to start a fire. If their is time she will make bundles of grass and oil them to use later to set fire to then and throw the grass, maybe they will generate enough heat that the grass bundles can ignite the whole top of the plateau.

shatter those bastards!

The Chakran Mnts
15th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
8:30 pm

Now the ogre was dead, the question was what to do with the remaining time until the goblin forces would arrive. The path was narrow, and steep, but the creatures were pressing fast. Luckily, the group was made up of some quick witted warriors, and a plan was composed within seconds.

At first Thondrek made sure the sounds of the ogre continued to call, screaming away a warning that the Chakrandrum had returned. If it unsettled the troops below, they did not show it. But then a shout of pain came next, and there was a definite pause among the climbing goblins. The falling body of the large creature was even more impressive, but it also urged the goblins forward. The other magical sounds did no longer have any visible impact. Even the hoard of Chakrandrum voices chanting a defiant cry made no difference. But perhaps the goblins were driven forward by more than anger. Larger forms could be spotted between the torches. Yes, they were coming, and all they could do now was wait, and prepare themselves.

Elessarae and Geim went looking for wood, or other materials to burn. Unfortunately, the only thing they could find on this bare mountain were a few sticks and the grass that was not dry enough to burn. Still, a few drips of oil can persuade any material to burn at least a little bit, and soon they had created as much as 6 torches that burned eagerly.

Then the goblins came within range, and received a rain of boulders. The large stones plummeted in the depth, crushing the bodies of four grunts at a time. This definitely caused an unrest, and the troops that came behind them drew back for an instant. At least forty goblins had been killed, and a seed of fear had absolutely been planted. But when the rain of boulders stopped, the creatures pressed on again. Roars of rage were now audible, and the persistence of the forces was a bit unsettling. The companions were now out of rocks light enough to throw, or spells to hurl larger ones. It came to magical attacks now, using ranged elements to not let the goblins come any closer.
Alyssia let go of her first lightning bolt spell, and shattered another fifteen bodies down the mountain. Another pause rippled through the upcoming warriors, but once more they returned to duty. Loda entered a firey ball that flew at the troops, and quickly readied another spell that conjured a pack of wolves. Gothard, by her side, was eager to join them and throw himself at the green skins.
Malius had his arrows knocked, but was told to wait, because his Sylvari crafted bow would betray the ruse they were still holding up. Geimiedefher was also ready for action, but could not do much at this time.

Another lightning bolt crackled over the mountain, and scorched more goblins and the occasional orc that could be spotted between the ranks of the approaching army. Accompanied by Lodaís flaming sphere it shattered the troops that were closest. And at last, the goblins closest to the destruction of their kin halted; halted and retreated. The grunts at the front were then attacked by the wolves sent by Loda, and even more chaos erupted among the creatures, some of them choosing to jump to their death rather than being shred to pieces by the vicious mammals.

Grinning, or at least content at their successful efforts, the companions gazed at the back-stepping goblins. For now they had positively held on to their illusion of the returned Chakrandrum forces.

But then a shadow fell over the low moon, and their preoccupied ears caught the sound of sudden wind. Turning, their smiles evaporated from their faces for what they saw was death on wings: a wyvern black as unlight itself. On top of it sat a dark rider with glowing eyes, a goblin bigger than any of its kind. It pointed its double bladed axe in their direction, a silent challenge that was all too clear. Alyssia gagged, and looked down at her stomach. Protruding from her ragged dress was the long hook that was the end of the wyvernís tail. It pulsated as it pumped poison into her. Then the hook was withdrawn with a vicious jab, and the sorceress sank to her knees. The wyvern rose again and sent a victorious screech into the night.

(OOC: The wyvern is hovering at 15 feet above the grassy plains. Behind you, the goblin troops have regained their composure somewhat, and will be getting closer with every round that goes by. Judging the time it will take the goblins to get to the combat will use up a free action.

Stoneskin has been cast on Draven.

Alyssia is bleeding heavily, and the poison made her Con score drop to 3. Next round, secondary poison dmg will come up, and I already know that it is bringing her Con below zero. So you have one round to fix her, otherwise she is gone. )

To Kill a Mockingbird

The group having decided for the most part to stand and fight Malius made ready but was told to hold his fire as to keep the ruse of a mighty Khord force alive. Having sent Podo and Codo into hiding to keep them safe once it came down to melee all Malius could do was watch the others hurl spells and rocks onto the goblins below. For a time it seemed that the odds were in the groups favor but as everything in battle the odds can change with a blink of an eye.

Deciding he needed a better notion of what was happening the Sylvari Ranger was just about to use his spell of the day to summon a good sized Eagle when the blink of the eye happened and a Wyvern riding Goblin appeared. Having no warning before its first attack Malius was unable to stop it as it speared its tail into Alyssia's body. Moving quickly, as the Wyvern arose to hover, The Sylvari Ranger attempted to close the gap and fire his arrows point blank into the Wyverns skull. Hopefully with help from the others they could quickly turn the odds back into the groups favor...........

(OOC: Ok a lot of assumption here, if I am unable to close the gap as I do not know how close I am to begin with I will instead stand where I am and using the time following the Wyvernís attack against Alyssia and it moving to hover to aim carefully and call shot a pair of arrows into its brain through an eye, whichever of which is closet to me. As I am 6th LvL I think you told me Al before I took my AOL that I now get 2 shots with a bow but am not sure.

After that my next action is to Summon as posted an Eagle ally to help fight, attacking the Goblin rider from behind as I am able to have it appear where I want it too.)

Crap!

Thondrek was excited as he peered down into the depths of the valley, he was enjoying the unrest his illusory calls and banter were causing within the ranks below, but those of higher strength and power kept pushing the greenskins forward, like a swarm of lemmings ready to meet their end at the end of his blade or spell.

Then, the sky darkened for a spli second, as a great Wyvern appeared blocking the radiance of the moon, before diving down and plunging its poisoned barb into Alyssia.

"Oh Crap!" Thondrek let slip, not very Khordish but it got the point across. Thondrek knew he was no healer, knew Alyssia stood little to no chance of surviving that attack, but he was needed elsewhere, and currently that elsewhere was not even on the ground.

Turning to Geim he yelled to his friend and companion. "Geim! Pass me da Spider potion and tend to the lass, I've got's me a wyrm to wrangle!" Thondrek figured by now, especially after the Tree battle, his often unorthodox plans were a part of who he was, much like how he was a duskblade, and not a typical cleric or warrior like most of his kinfolk.

(Providing Geim will give Thondrek the potion, He will spend this round drinking it and taking a defensive stance to further his defence until he can act.)

(If Geim won't give Thondrek the potion, Thondrek will simply dimension Hop onto the Rider, and attempt to pull him from the saddle)

(Next round round he will dimension Hop to the Wyvern, sticking to it or the saddle or what not and do what he can to distract the rider (since I can't attack it)

(Further rounds will be spent attacking the Wyvern from atop it, Channelling a Shocking Grasp into each attack for an extra 5d6 damage until he can bring the beast down and people can swarm the rider)

Geim

Geim takes the potion out of his pouch and gives it to Thondrek then runs to Alyssia. When he gets to her prone body he cast Delay Poison then gets out his healing kit to see if he can't counter this wyvern's poison first by washing out the wound with copious amounts of water. even digging into the wound to wash any lingering poison out..

"If anyone has antitoxin I need it for Alyssia.

(Make healing check for Geim +14)

Elessarae

Elessarae gauges her chance of jumping up to the creature, as she had jumped into the second story of the tower, but the length of the wyvern's tail was such that it could strike at her, and knowing she had no anti-toxin, she could not risk it.

First she uses her Flare spell at the Wyvern, if it can't see it can't use its stinger with any accuracy

Then Geim calls out for Anti-toxin. "I have two vials. Elessarae calls out, she is hoping he will come get them, no matter what she will throw her flare spell first and then get the needed vials to him.

After that she will unlimber her bow and as quickly as she can put as many arrows into beast and rider as she can. She will position herself to where she can do a quick check of the goblin's progress up the hill.

flared wyvern

The Chakran Mnts
15th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
9:12 pm

The battle had suddenly taken a different turn entirely. All attention was now on the wyvern and its rider, who where a black silhouette against the milky moon. First one to react to this pressing opponent was Malius. The ranger had been ready to fire his bow for a long time. He had been told to wait, but would not hold his arrows now that the illusion of Chakrandrum warrior-spirits had been broken. He fired two, swiftly following each other, aimed at the eyes of the flying creature. But it was no easy feat to shot at such precise target, and both arrows missed the wyvernís head by inches.

Alyssia was clutching her stomach, as a reaction to pain and an attempt to keep her intestines from falling out. The whole in her body that the tail of the wyvern had made was enormous, and the vicious hook had stirred her body heavily. She could not think, but instinctively cast a healing spell with the last of her strength. The wound closed, but the healing did nothing to prevent the poison from harming her. She fell down, exhausted.
Thondrek called out to Geim to hand him the potion of Spiderclimb that they had received in Sylvaria. But the Khordaldrum cleric had a lot on his mind, and started rummaging through his pack. Thondrek had to wait.

The wyvern had no intention to wait, however, and swooped down again. It chose Malius as its target this time, for he had been the one to defy it with a counter attack. The creature swooped down, and as it flew overhead Malius had a chance to put a quick shot into its belly. His arrow struck the monster, but it would not slow it down. With another vicious swing, the sharp end of its tail buried itself in Maliusís flank. The pain that erupted was excruciating, and a big amount of poison was pumped into the rangerís flesh. Still, his reaction to it was not as heavy as Alyssiaís, and through the pain he realized the green goo was not affecting him. The wyvern flew overhead and returned to its high position, out of range of melee attacks, but not before the rider had thrown a dagger at Elessarae. The blade missed her completely.

The bladesinger was quick to respond, and threw a spell in front of the monster that erupted a bright light out of nowhere. The Wyvern shrieked, and flapped its wings and swung its head frantically. But Elessarae was already digging in her sacks to retrieve an antitoxin that Geim was asking for.
The cleric of Kharox was still looking for the potion of spider climb. When he finally found it, he flung it at Thondrek. With a quick reflex, Geim turned and caught the antitoxin that Elessarae had passed him. He rushed over to where Alyssia was laying, ready to cast a spell that would hold the effects of the poison. But when he touched her body, she did not react. With all his healing experience, Geim could tell very soon that she was not breathing, and that her veins were no longer pumping blood. Her face was no longer in pain though, but expressed a peace and tranquillity that was normally vacant on battlefields. She had joined her goddess, though her self appointed task remained unfulfilled. Perhaps the plan for her was never to return Draven to the path of light, perhaps she was just a touch of joy and living to the dark manís life.

(OOC: Iím stopping here, to give everybody the time to rethink their actions. I know Thondrek is still up for his spiderclimb-hop-the-wyvern, right? Alyssia is dead, through an unfortunate initiative roll. There is nothing you can do for her. Iíll message Cdn to let her know what happened. Though I regret losing characters, that is something which can happen in dnd-games.)

Round 3 anyone. Bring it on AL!!

Malius watched unbelieving as his first 2 arrows missed and then only 1 of his next 2 hit, he was quickly rewarded by the Wyvern for his attempt to kill it by the creature burying its tail in his side. The explosion of pain and blood from his side almost caused him to black out but fighting it he did not.

But unlike Alyssia he did fall to his knees to die as she had, somehow shrugging off the poison's effects at least for the moment. The pain though intense in some way was a good thing as the Sylvari Ranger used it to power his anger and stregnthen his pull on the string of his compound bow as he let another 2 arrows fly. This time aiming for the area of its body where its wings connected he hoped to help the others bring it to ground.

.

Loda realized that she had to act fast. Quickly she weaved a spell together with her divine abilities, and cast a spell upon herself.(which it is, Almerin i PMed you) Quickly she unsheathed her axe and gripped her shield, and was ready to swing at the damend wyvern next time it flew down. She needed to help stop the thing from stabbing, so she aimed for the stinger.

( any way I can sunder the tip of the stinger?)

Elessarae

The Bladesinger had now changed to her bow, they had to down the wyvern and quickly. She aims for the wings, as they are the most fragile part of the beast, piercing the wings would hamper its ability to stay in the air that is why she was using the broad headed arrows.

In a deep and trumpting voice Elessarae turns the human song she has used before into a quickly reworded Dwarven fight song, to inspire courage in her comrades and continue to carry on the pretense of the mysterious Dwarves of Chakran.

Men of Chakran! In the Hollow,
Do ye hear like rushing billow
Wave on wave that surging follow
Battle's distant sound?

Tis the tramp of Goblin foemen,
Goblin spearmen, Goblin bowmen,
Be they many more than our men,
They shall bite the ground!

Loose the folds asunder,
Flag we conquer under!
The sable sky now has drawn nie
Weíll launch its deadly bolts in thunder!

Onward! 'tis Chakrandum needs us,
He is bravest, he who leads us
Honor's self now proudly heads us,
Freedom, Kharox and Right!

Rocky Steeps and passes narrow,
Flash with spear and flight of arrow
Who would think of death or sorrow?
Death is glory now!

Hurl the reeling not-men over,
Let the earth dead foemen cover
Fate of friend, of wife, of lover,
Trembles on a blow!

Strands of life are riven!
Blow for blow is given
In deadly lock, or battle shock,
No mercy to the dying given!

Men of Chakran! young or hoary,
Would you win a name in story?
Stike for home, for life, for glory!
Freedom, Khadox and Right!

(for those who would like to know the music it goes to: http://www.contemplator.com/wales/harlech2.html there is a quick intro of the first verse and then in goes on to play the 2 set of 4 verses.)

Elessarae does continue to keep an eye on the advancing hordes.

Up up and away.

Thondrek knew that he had t bring down the Wyvern and its rider as quickly as possible. Having drank the potion of spiderclimb, he put his plan into motion. Quickly, he quick cast Dimension Hop to land on top of the wyvern behind the rider, his crystal encrusted dwarven waraxe already coming down in a single arcane strike, channeling a shocking grasp through his weapon in an attempt to bring down the beast and its rider once and for all.

(Targeting the Wyvern he's now atop of)
