Soem of you may remember this old idea of mine. Just wanted to let you know that I'm actually getting close to ready for beta, not alpha, testers. I have a chunk of programming left to do in regards to some of the more detailed logic, but it will soon be much more than "I pick my team, too bad I can't do anything with it".

I know that Grugg was interested in this... if there are others of who who might want to create completely fictional electronic baseball teams, let me know.

What has a Bar Team........

Well there had better be a Red Dragon Inn All Star team!
Could see Grugg catching, no one would make it home.
Yeah, there are real possibilities here, .

D&D or B&B

Shouldn't we do a more fantasy based fantasy game? Like Gladiator teams? Or mass land combat?

Call me a purist....

heh

I have three different game ideas that would work really well with fantasy. At least one will defintiely get done... someday. I hope to do all three.

But this one is purely baseball.

A sample league

a test game

OKay, here is a link to a sample game: sample game.

It's ugly, and the batting stats are not yet displayed. I know that there are bugs, as well. I believe that sometimes, singles cause runners on occupied bases to sometimes disappear. If you would like to help me test and figure out exactly what is going on when this happens, it would be much appreciated.

Runners never attempt to steal (yet) - I have to add this logic.

Pitchers are replaced when they tire, or when they get into a jam, but the "jam" logic is not yet right. I also think that pitchers may not be tiring quickly enough - I'm seeing a lot of 8 and 9 inning games from starts who are average or so at endurance. Really, they should typically last six innings - could be less, could be more. Sure, they CAN pitch a whole game, but this should be an exception for a guy with a 75 or so endurance rating. On the other hand, relievers often get pulled far too often.

Pinch hitting does not happen yet - I need to add this logic. Nor does defensive subbing or pinch running.

Still, there is a lot of complex logic going on here. If you like baseball, I'd love your feedback.

well...

...simming a game takes absolutely no knowledge of what we're doing. Pick two teams and go - the games runs within a couple of seconds. Anyone can do it, whether or not they reserved a team back when we were testing the draft logic (that still probably needs more refinement).

Remember that for all abilities, 75 is considered to be absolutely average for a MLB caliber player.

updates...

I have batting stats displaying (not perfectly, but displaying). Pitching substitutions are making more sense now, though I still think that there are too many starters going deep into games.

It keeps getting better, though.

Has anyone tried to simulate a game yet? Seen any oddities?

meh

No worries. I'd love for ANYONE who has a few minutes on their hands to run some sample games and tell me what they think. Remember, games resolve in less than a second, so it's not like you need much time.

I just found an odd situation... a team lost a game, 7-6, due to a walkoff two run homer fromt he home team. Which means they were winning 6-5 at the start of the inning.

For some reason, they left their long reliever in for his third inning (he had come in for the starter) in an obvious save situation. Yes, the long guy still had enough stamina to pitch the inning, but any baseball idiot would have pulled him to bring int he closer for a one run save in the ninth. The computer did not, which means there is a hole in the logic. Bleh.

These are the kind of things I'm looking to correct.
