On with the game...

I moved the discussion to the 2011 NFL Season page where football belongs.

Back to important stuff like Trilogy.
Sorry for the side track.

Out this weekend.....

I plan to get a post up Sunday night. This weekend is the Father / Son weekend for our scout troop so I'll out in cabin camping this weekend. This our 2nd ed. D&D gaming too. We play table top on this weekend and this is where Odyson was developed. He's a barbarian Shaman Fighter Werebear.

Back from the woods...........

Had a really good campout. We actually started our third advanture in the same game world. I'm now in three parallel stories. I chose another Gnome, all that's for a different place and post.

Now for this battle I think we need some more information.
I am of the impression that Kenji had not actually exited the stairs but had thrown from the relative protect of still being in the stairwell, but about half exposed into the room. The tenth bug was reaching over and into the stairwell when Kenji turned and jabbed it.

To me it is relevent because Ulthok was invisible and coming up close behind Kenji. He can see what Kenji is doing and can dodge him and the bug, but Kenji doesn't know where his support will be comeing. So if Kinji is attacking #10 then we are all attacking #10, we need a map! We need to know where it is and where the others are positioned. Can we all attack just one before the others are on us?

So Tann, can we have another map, please?

Bow

While you said my bow will nmot hit these creatures I was rereading the spec you have written up for it and the words "....a bolt of energy that affects all creatures" is clearly stated..a

+3 Ivory & Gold/Silver Longbow “Andurile’s Blood”
(turns any arrow fired from it into a bolt of pure energy that affects all creatures doing 1d12 per arrow including its own +3 and any Strength bonus. It can be used by anyone with Long Bow/Composite Bow as a proficiency but in the hands of a Ranger it grants +2 to all saving throws/ the ability to cast 2 Cure lights per day and adds + 1 to AC. The bow must be held to gain these extra benefits. Its rate of fire is the same as all other bows.)

I really need a response to this question before I can post as to if it does or does not affect these things considering what you stated as to its properties.

Easy Answer

No due to the fact that any arrow fired from the bow be it magical or non-magical to start is turned into a MAGICAL bolt of energy and the creatures as already stated are immune to all magic.

Kenji location

Yeah I imagined Kenji at the top of the steps, maybe not on them but no more than a step or so on the level. So he should be quite close to you all, so come help!

Getting clearer....

I felt that Kenji wanted to attack the hurt bug, but the location of the others bugs could change that plan. If that bug moved off so we all have to emerge from the stairwell and run around the stairwell to get to it, we may have another bug now closer or cutting off our attack. They won't be waiting for us to finish off one of them before they attack. They will be swarming us just we plan to swarm one of them.

Any ideas on how to isolate the bugs? Getting them to nose into the stairwell and hurting it so it backs off. Then with them hurt it might slow the swarm attack or at least limit their attack strength and weapons, few teeth, mandibles and such to defend against.

Anyone with regular sheaf arrows should use them, they are iron tipped, just not iron from the temple.

Ulthok's ability to attack and vanish could be helpful to putting at least one arrow in each critter.

When he is out of arrows he will draw the iron sword to hack and slash with the rest of the party. He may use his invisibility and boots to leap up to mount a bug and try to cut the bugs neck between the plates (back-stab bonus). Perhaps try get close to stab or throw a knife into a bugs eye and then vanish, not real safe but a possible attack.

So there are some thoughts, you may have read some of Ulthok's skills, got any suggests?

Paladins weapons and the plan

Not trying to be a kill joy but no paladin would ever be able to put down a holy avegner to use a plain sword; unless that plain sword was so masterfully crafted and jeweled to appear to be "better" than the avenger. Might have to sit out the fight but that is a DM call.

As for our fighting arrangement I envision us in a tight semi circle around the door, venturing out only far engough to engage safely. Just try to attack to kill one before turning to another.

Map is Up

Ok based on your ingame posts and Q/A posts here is the map at this time. If and when the others post it will be a leader call as to how everyone will be postioned as your coming off the stairs 1 at a time.

Right now I'll be posting combat actions as follows
#1) Kenji
#2) Ulthok
#3) Cor
#4) Conall
#5)??
#6)??
#7)??
#8.)??

Keeper as party leader I need to know the marching order for the next 4 characters in case someone does not post.

Also as to gboy and the Avenger if he had to put it down or leave it behind for the greater good I would roll to see if he could. However he did not put it down/give it up he sheathed it so its still with him and took up a long sword. Its the same as if he were to fight with a dagger in a small space unsuited for the Avenger or use a crossbow instead due to range limitations.

More plans.........

Well it does look like we have to get around the stairwell to gang up on #10. Would it make sence to split up, half go left, half right and then we won't be so spread out. We could gang up it quicker and then ready to turn on the gang up on the next.

Are the walls near? Can we lure the bugs so they can't surround us easily.

Answers for Ody

Are the walls near? No they are roughly 40 yards behind the stairs. By the time you could get there and form a semi wall they would have 1-2 in front of you do to speed.

Can we lure the bugs so they can't surround us easily. You could try using the stair opening at your back as it is really a large 20 x 20 hole in the floor. However you run the risk of being slammed down to the floor below if hit hard enough. I know how I would do it but of course I'm the DM so its easy for me .

...

Sorry all for not posting recently! I've just got back from visiting my parents, who still haven't, unfortunately, discovered the manifold pleasures of wifi.

I will get a post up today or tomorrow.

Also, congrats on discovering the weakness of the critters! It was so obvious when you think about it!

Just glad your still with us.

However was the answer to how to kill the Roach/Scorps really that obvious?
