Problem solving

Too scared to move.. can't post.. lol puzzle solving.. no idea what I'm doing.

but yea increments of 15 on 3 of the sides. 3 sides go into the other 5 times. that's all I have noticed so far.

Maybe we rotate it 5 times and stop on the 15/4

Apologies...

...for my lack of posting this week... been crazy busy and, even though I thought I'd be able to manage a post, time just kept slipping away.

I'll do my best to get caught up today.

Ignorance is not bliss

Tann - could the arrow be turned in either direction or only to the right? (I'm assuming it was turned right just a little bit to get the configuration mentioned.)

So, it seems obvious that we moved in time, right? Right?

Did we go forward in time therefor allowing the water to freeze again?

Had we gone backwards, would we have seen the flame melting the ice go backwards and be back before it was thawed? But is that possible in a room we already occupied at that time? There would be two of us.

Do we have any sense of how long we moved in time? How long did it take the water to freeze? When the water refroze in the other room how long did it take? Can we figure out time based on that?

Also, what about the fact that we had a weather control spell in effect? Should the water freeze if we are still present? Does that mean we were not really "there" in the intervening time?

What about those weather spells? What happens to their duration when we travel in time? I don't want to give Tann any ideas by posting this here, but we need to consider it. At the very least I am willing to assume that he wouldn't just kill us all off by having them immediately expire since he was the one who moved the clock. But we do need to consider the issue. Does the spells expiration stay with our sense of time? (Tann - I would think the spell casters would have a sense of this. Do they think the spells have changed at all?)

And finally, we still have to figure out what to do. Do we mess more with the clock thing? It seems obvious to me that it messes with time. But do we know what to do with it? Also, before we go anywhere, don't we need the archmage to show up so he can go with us? Wouldn't leaving now be premature? Does that mean we keep moving? We wait here for him to show up? We see if we can cut a hole in the ice and do some ice fishing?

???

Still waiting to hear from the Gm, but what do the rest of you think? Are we being encouraged to use the clock? Inclined to move on? See a way to decipher the clock?

And one more thought that just occurred . . . if the beholder came upon us in this room, would the clock be a way to escape from it? Or would it move in time with us? Did everything in the room time shift as well? The water/ice didn't seem to shift. But all living beings did, including presumably familiars.

@Nomad

Tann - could the arrow be turned in either direction or only to the right? (I'm assuming it was turned right just a little bit to get the configuration mentioned.) Yes only to the right

So, it seems obvious that we moved in time, right? Right? Maybe lol

Did we go forward in time there for allowing the water to freeze again? N/A

Had we gone backwards, would we have seen the flame melting the ice go backwards and be back before it was thawed? But is that possible in a room we already occupied at that time? There would be two of us. Hmmm sounds about right

Do we have any sense of how long we moved in time? Did you move in time?

How long did it take the water to freeze? Not as fast as the other room and not as thick overtop of the clock as before

When the water refroze in the other room how long did it take? Can we figure out time based on that? Very fast after you left the room, along with your circle of elemental protection provided by Sirene

Also, what about the fact that we had a weather control spell in effect? Should the water freeze if we are still present? Does that mean we were not really "there" in the intervening time? I don’t know what do you think?

What about those weather spells? What happens to their duration when we travel in time? I don't want to give Tann any ideas by posting this here, but we need to consider it. At the very least I am willing to assume that he wouldn't just kill us all off by having them immediately expire since he was the one who moved the clock. But we do need to consider the issue. Does the spells expiration stay with our sense of time? (Tann - I would think the spell casters would have a sense of this. Do they think the spells have changed at all?) Yes the mages should know the spells cast time and expiration

Ice fishing sounds cool but yeah strange that Allanan has yet to show up. Though it‘s only been 7-8 days since you were teleported here by him.

Warmth still active?

If the warming spells are still active and we are standing around the dial, shouldn't that at least re-melt its surface?

Also, since the identify spell didn't/couldn't get a read on the dial when cast on all the items, I want to have Aliya cast it again on the dial now that it's mostly thawed, and have her concentrate solely on that since it now did a thing.

Does that sound good to everyone? Worth a try?

Plan

Checking the clock again isn't a bad idea. Ok, lets try it.

Is there anything else we need to do?

Also, in the interest of keeping things moving, we should be discussing what comes next. A post on that spell is great, but how long do we want to just keep standing here? When we get the results, which I'm assuming will not say, "for best results do X," we will be right back where we are now trying to come up with a plan. Tann's post pushed us a bit towards messing with the clock, but without knowing what we are doing and in the absence of Allanan, Lothor would suggest moving on deeper into the frozen tower. But what say you? I'd love to get a post up about what comes next to keep things moving. I don't think any of us wants to say what to do because we don't know, but we have to do something.

.

Other than messing with the clock to see if we can figure out how it works I have no real idea. Cor is open to additional investigation or further exploration.

Uhh, guys . . .

to give us something more to work with.

So, the thing knows about the time room. And it is a time room. It is calling out to others. And it is coming. Maybe they are coming. And they aim to kill. I think we need a plan and we need it now. It knows where we are.

We are also still short one arch-mage. Do we crank the clock to try and escape? Is that possible given what is coming? Or do we try to hunker down and prepare for battle. Given what little we know of it, that seems like it might be unwise.

I have not wanted to just crank the clock before, but that might be our best bet.

Also, if we do end up in a fight with the beholder, what do we know about it?
-It glued the ranger to the wall. Nope - that was the cyclops, wasn't it?
-It brought the super cold.

Do we know anything else? Might it be vulnerable to heat spells? Anybody know the life expectancy of a beholder? I ask because if we jump back to the future, how far would we have to go before it isn't there? Not that we know how far the clock thing is taking us anyway. I really am clueless here.

So level 6 spells how do those work? like I noticed Roan has a blade barrier... Is it possible to use that to protect us while we figure out the dial?

I should of waited to post to ask this first...

Spell Blade Barrier

Blade Barrier

(Evocation)

Sphere: Guardian, Creation

Range: 30 yds.
Components: V, S
Duration: 3 rds./level
Casting Time: 9
Area of Effect: 5-60 ft. sq.
Saving Throw: Special

The priest employs this spell to set up a wall of circling, razor-sharp blades. These whirl and flash around a central point, creating an immobile barrier. Any creature attempting to pass through the blade barrier suffers 8d8 points of damage. The plane of rotation of the blades can be horizontal, vertical, or in between. Creatures within the area of the barrier when it is invoked are entitled to a saving throw vs. spell. If this is successful, the blades are avoided and no damage is suffered; the creature escapes the area of the blade barrier by the shortest possible route. The barrier remains for three rounds for every experience level of the priest casting it. The barrier can cover an area from as small as 5 feet square to as large as 60 feet square.

Ok trying to learn the spell stuff How do you cast them? Would this be something that could protect us in time to figure out the dial?

Such a newbie still

Protection

Blade barrier would help if we knew something was coming. It isn't actually there yet thought. I think most Beholders can also dispel magic as one of their innate abilities, so we couldn't count on it to save us for long. But it is a good idea.
