What happened??

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field by Rocinante 8:22 am PT
Jessy couldn’t believe what she saw; the fed ship was leaving and it looked like several people were down. She rushed forward at a run to where the Captain, Willow and the Fed Marshall lay close together; looking around for a brief second she looked at Willow who seemed to be moving at least.

“Are you alright?” She asked the Asian woman who appeared to be conscious.

Turning to the others who were unconscious; she left the loud, rude socialite (Portia) where she lie and squatted next to the Captain and tried to gently awaken him. If he awakened, she smiled at him and helped him to stand if he wanted up.

“Easy,” Jessy said to the Captain, “it is over… for now.”

She doubted that was true; surely the ASREV was planning something from orbit, possibly bombarding them from high altitude and wiping them all out. She wondered what had set off this situation? It had looked like a rescue operation but had turned into a shoot-out and people were hurt.

(Edited: Fixed a mistake in her actions that needed correcting. Thanks Alacrity.)

Could be worse, Reavers could fall from the sky...

John had only taken two steps when suddenly a sound that brought him back to the days he spent in the war started from outside the processor; the sound of gunfire. Almost immediately after the gunfire started his newly acquired radio crackled to life:

"Gorram hell! We are being fired upon!"

"Pull back! Pull back!"

"But Dillon and Kyle and ..."

Another voice comes on the radio, deep and fierce enough to broker no argument. "You have your order! Get out and blow them. We will deal with this with the whole unit.."

"Copy that sir."

Now deeply concerned John rushed to the nearest slit in the wall, peering through to view the scene developing around Rocinante.

Silently, John held his breath as he watched the ASREV lift off of the ground. To his surprise however, the ship quickly fled the scene rather than firing upon Roc; little sparks flashing off the bottom as the sound of more gunfire reached him. He watched as the ASREV flew out of sight before turning around and reaching for his comm. He had hardly even touched it, though, when suddenly it jumped to life and Wolfs voice penetrated the silence.

“John, Wolf we are secure here” After giving him a quick rundown of the action Wolf turned to matters at hand.

“So what’s the processor look like, can we get it out fast and back to the ship? I have a feeling we would be better off this rock ASAP”

"I haven't the slightest what the processor looks like quite yet, I've been a bit preoccupied." John replied briskly. "Right now, however, you need to get everyone away from the ship. I believe it's just become a very, very large and immovable target."

Fast as he could, John gave Wolf the run down on what had happened since he had left the processor. "And the last thing I heard was an order for them to get out and blow us and that they'd deal with us as a whole unit." John finished quickly. Silently he shook his head then said, "You need to get back up here with that shuttle, I have a feeling we'll need those tools in a bit. I'm going to head up and evaluate the situation. I'll let you know."

With that he quickly started towards the top of the building to find out the state of the equipment and what they would need to convert it, if they could manage to do that at all.

(EDIT: A few grammatical errors.)

Not a warrior princess

As the guard shook off her hold deftly and sent Willow sprawling, she knew she'd been a fool to even try. She was no warrior to stare death in the face and laugh ... she was a lover, a healer, a coward who hid from rainstorms. Tears sprung to her eyes more from defeat than any pain (she remembered to tuck slightly and relax at impact) and when the guard raised his weapon, either to club her or shoot her, she was nearly mindless with panic.

Nearly.

She couldn't bear to look her killer in the face, so she looked down and saw the same telltale lightness in colour on the guard's leg, where armoured shin guard met boot. The flexskin was thin here, as well, and if she could just ...

*BLAMMM*

The full force of a rifle shot hit the guard and caused him to reel backwards, fighting to keep his balance. Willow shrieked in reaction to the gunfire, then, cursing at herself, lunged at the guard's leg, pulling the pin from her hair and jamming it home. The guard cried out in surprise and jumped back, shifting his weight to kick Willow. Only, the drug worked fast when someone's heart was racing, and he wobbled, then fell boneless to the ground, asleep before impact. Willow pulled herself out from under him, shaking with reaction.

"Stupid man!" she hissed, sounding remarkably like Auntie Sun," I didn't even want to hurt you...you were just supposed to LIE DOWN!"

Hands gripped her upper arms just above the elbow and helped support her as she struggled to her feet. Willow shook her dishevelled hair out of her face and found herself looking into concerned brandywine eyes.

“Are you alright?” asked the young woman Willow had seen before, the one so worried about Sifu. Before Willow could much more than nod, the woman had loosed her grip and moved on to check on Sung.

"Wyatt!" Willow gasped, fear lancing through her as she realized he was down, but even as she dashed towards him, she could see the rise and fall of his chest, and his limbs were moving slowly, as if under water; the movements of returning consciousness. She realized that in her struggle with the guard, she'd seen and heard only him, and so it was with a sense of shock that she looked around at the tableau around her.

Tess caught her eye and without lowering her weapon aimed at one of the passengers, pointed with her chin and shoulder at the fallen Havelock. After a quick glance to reassure herself that Wyatt was indeed rousing unaided, Willow hastened to kneel beside Havelock, who lay on his side. She could see three scorched holes in the front of his uniform, but to her surprise, there were no exit wounds on his back. The schrapnel must still be inside, and inwardly, Willow winced at the sort of damage he must have taken at such close range if the bullets hadn't been able to continue straight through his body.

"No, no, my dear," Havelock suddenly called, though he wasn't looking at Willow," You promised, not until the very end."

"Hush, my love," Willow crooned as she eased the dying man unto his back and gently put her hands over his so he would let go of the rifle he still clung to. "Ask me not for promises, and I'll tell you no lies..."

Tian Fuhn Di Fu,(sheer pandemonium)

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field by Rocinante 8:22 am PT

“Blamm”……….

“Lio Coh Jwei Ji Neong Hur Ho Deh Yung Duh Buhn Jah
J’wohn.”

Adrenalin coursed the Asher and trying to site a second shot on the guard. The kid saw his first shot had knock back the guard, then Miss Willow made quick move of her hand from her head to the guards ankle. Amazingly the guard crumbed out of Asher’s sights.

Shifting to take in the action he saw the White coated man move and blue glow shot out in front him and Wyatt, the Marshall and his captive also crumbed to the ground……. The old army officer jumped on the other guard as his gun fired knock taking three shots to his body but taking the guards with him to the ground……... The guard drew his side arm and bolted for the ASREV.

ASREV ramp started to close as it prepared to lift off leaving it’s crew members behind. The kid swung to find another target and he saw Wolf charge out of nowhere and into the crowd. The mechanics guns roared and the guard was knocked to the ground.

The kid’s heart was pounding as anger continued build. The comm opened as Wolf called to John, “John, Wolf we are secure here” After giving him a quick rundown of the action Wolf turned to matters at hand.

“So what’s the processor look like, can we get it out fast and back to the ship? I have a feeling we would be better off this rock ASAP”

John quickly replied, "I haven't the slightest what the processor looks like quite yet, I've been a bit preoccupied. Right now, however, you need to get everyone away from the ship. I believe it's just become a very, very large and immovable target."
Light glinted off the pilot’s canopy as he sees the ASREV lifting and circled slightly…….slipping the GRZ 1 to full auto the kid and the gun both vented on the rising ship… ”Blamm…Blamm…. Blamm…Blamm….Blamm………..

The ASREV continued its ascent the kid knew the GRZ wouldn’t likely cuase damage but it might be a distraction.
Scanning back to the crowd he saw Tess had White coat and his boys covered… the lady “Courier” was tending Wyatt and Willow was next to Haverlock. Shouldering the GRZ the kid heading back to the access port and rapidly made his to the hold and out the ramp to help those on the ground.

Moving forward

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field, Outside rear of Rocinante, 8:25 am PT
The ASREV lifted off as Wolf attempted to shoot it down with blind luck and foul language. Other than a trail of sparks and a light show, it did nothing. Looking up at the bomb bay doors and the underside of the autocannons, the mechanic quickly had a image of that ship crashing down with armaments and exploding, making him glad he was unable to bring it down.

As the armour of the craft deflected his shots as he tried to break the glass. Asher for a brief moment saw the pilot as the ASREV pulled up to his level. He was not wearing a marshal's uniform and alliance military but dark green with a helmet imprinted with a black dragon breathing fire while in flight. The emblem tweaked a memory in Asher's mind - he had seen that before.

On the ground, Wyatt was coming around as was marshall Dillon but he was covered by the body guard Hack who had disarmed him before.. The guard stung by Willow was still on the ground unmoving. Willow examined Havelock would was surprisingly alive despite taking three shots to the chest. The man muttered something in his pain but held on the consciousness and life.

Tess takes the walking stick away from Matherson and the blue glow dies immediately as she takes it from him. Slash keeps his hands in the air as Ma covers him but he continues to protest like he didn't do anything wrong.

Wyatt shakes out the grogginess and headache from his head and starts to get ready to stand when a pretty young lady by his side says to him, “Easy, it is over… for now.”

Wolf disarmed the guard and motioned to get some passengers to help him but the guard began to move as he did, not fast in any way but still moving.

“So what’s the processor look like, can we get it out fast and back to the ship? I have a feeling we would be better off this rock ASAP” Wolf calls to John on the Comm while keeping his weapon on the guard.

John quickly replied, "I haven't the slightest what the processor looks like quite yet, I've been a bit preoccupied. Right now, however, you need to get everyone away from the ship. I believe it's just become a very, very large and immovable target."

Dillon starts to laugh as he watches the ASREV go up in the air, a horribly insane kinda laugh, "You think you won? You bought yourself three hours, maybe four at most. Wilson will bring the others, no escape for you hun dan meddlers, fiddle will be ours soon enough. Mark my words, the Boss is in too deep to let this go, he’ll kill all of you to get that treasure.” He laughs hysterically, "The Heilong are coming! You'll wish for reavers! You hear me! You'll wish for reavers!!"

Suddenly the guard in front of Wolf twitches and there is a noise like a pop. Then he falls flat on the ground, completely still as blood begins to pool out of his helmet. The guard that Willow knocked out does the same thing.

As Dillon laughs he suddenly stops as his head spasms unnaturally, his eye explode out of the sockets and blood spews out of his nose and mouth as he too falls dead before you.

This proves to be too much strain for the passengers of the cruise line and blind panic takes hold. Some run to Rocinante's Hold, while others just run without rhyme or reason and many are just crying about dying on this rock and no hope for survival.

"What a mess." Hack comments as he hold his gun up, "What now boss?"

A mess o' cattle...

“Easy, it is over… for now.”

Wyatt blinked away the confusion and swallowed the sick feeling that clung to his insides like moss to the north side of a tree. His arms and legs felt like they were encased in gelatin making them difficult to move, and the fog that surrounded his brain wasn't clearing fast enough for his taste. Slowly twisting to the side, the captain wobbled on his elbow for a moment as he tried to push the metallic taste of electricity from his mouth with his tongue.

"You think you won? You bought yourself three hours, maybe four at most. Wilson will bring the others, no escape for you hun dan meddlers, fiddle will be ours soon enough. Mark my words, the Boss is in too deep to let this go, he’ll kill all of you to get that treasure.”

Groaning a bit, Wyatt Sung pushes himself to his hands and knees, and then just his knees. Finding his Colt, the captain struggles further to his feet where he sways a bit before blinking back the dizziness. Once he's stable on his feet, Sung bends slowly again and retrieves his hat; placing it on his head low over his brow.

Dillan laughed hysterically, "The Heilong are coming! You'll wish for reavers! You hear me! You'll wish for reavers!!"

Giving the young lady he'd had a brief conversation with before all hell broke loose, Wyatt carefully strided over to where the poser of a marshall was apparently off his rocker. Crouching gingerly in front of the man, Wyatt Sung drew his Colt and placed the barrel just between the man's eyebrows. The sound of the weapon readying itself accented the steely expression on the captain's face.

"You brought Tian Fuhn Di Fu t' me an' mine, Dillon," Sung said in a dangerous and low tone. "I'm gonna open your brainpan and dispose of wha's inside like it was spoiled foodstuffs in about three seconds. You got that long, you Cheong Bao Ho Tze Wong ba Duhn, t' make me think twice.

"One...two..."

(OOC: This obviously makes some assumptions.)

Wyatt felt that his reaction to the exploding head was quiet acceptable. With the ichor from the interior of Dillon's cranium dripping from the brim of his hat, running down his cheeks, and dangling from his goatee, Captain Sung clenched his jaw, and slowly wiped his face in a downward motion before slinging the goo to the dirt. He felt nauseous. Very, very nauseous. Breathing in deeping through his nose, he rose to his feet and righted himself inside. He had to swallow the bile back and fight off the dizziness that still remained from whatever that was that knocked him out.

"That went well," he muttered as he turned to survey the panicked crowd. "How Wrin Bu Lai, Whai Wrin Bu Jwo (Things never go smooth)."

Finding his shotgun lying nearby, Wyatt walked over and picked it up. Turning to the freaked out mass, he pointed the shotgun up and at a slight angle before pulling the trigger resulting in a powerful boom.

"Go Hwong Tong (Enough of this nonsense)!" Firing another shell into the air, the captain looked about and declared in his most authoritative voice, "Calm down and gather about. Now."

Mauraders................

Light glinted off the pilot’s canopy as the ASREV lifting and circled slightly….the kid watched as the ship swung around. Then through the canopy he saw the pilot staring back at him, but he wasn’t in a Federal Marshall tan uniform , but a dark green uniform with a helmet imprinted with a black dragon breathing fire while in flight. A chill run up his neck as the kid he had remembered where heard of “The Black Dragon.” …….slipping the GRZ 1 to full auto the kid and the gun both vented on the rising ship… ” Rung Tse Song Di Ching Dai Wuo Tzo” ……..“Chui Se,” “Mercs”….Blamm…Blamm…. Blamm…Blamm….Blamm………..

The ship raised and ascended away from sight, Asher knew he had to get this information to Wyatt that those men down there were more than just dangerous.

Scanning back to the crowd he saw Tess and Ma had Mr.Whitecoat and his boys covered… the lady “Courier” was tending Wyatt and Willow was next to Haverlock. Shouldering the GRZ the kid heading back to the access port and rapidly made his to the hold and out the ramp to help those on the ground.

As he run to Wyatt those stories in his gun magazine were now alive. “Wyatt those ain’t Feds they’re…….”

Asher stopped mid sentence as a popping sound came from guards helmets and blood started pouring out from inside. The Marshall seemed to be laughing insanely then his head ruptured open…. his eye blew out and blood poured freely, jerking his body collapsed.

Asher wanted to report to the captain but he saw that Wyatt was still woozy. Turning to the mechanic, “Wolf,…. we got no short of ugly ridin’ in on us… them Huen Dahn ain’t Feds,….. they’re Black Dragons,… Mauraders.”
(Wolf replies about Dillon called them, Heilong, he tells Asher what Dillon said and asks him what he knows about them.)

Wyatt finally got back to his wiping the slime from his face and fired his gun into the air to get everyone’s attention.

As the crowd quieted Ash started, “That fits…. These Mercenary guys are the Heilong Commandos. They was in my Big Guns and Bigguns mag….. It said they started out square enough when the Browncoats took them into service, but they went bad quick. They was hunted down by the Purplebellies right quick and no one was the sorrier fer it. That was until that Black Bart Chung raised them from the dead 'bout three years back though. He took up right were the first group left off, but didn't even pretend to be square. They was killers then, and they is killers now. Theys 'bout as wanted as any group o' folk can be, but you know the Feds, can't find their own pi gu with both hands and a mirror. So how do ya'll 'spect them to find a set of killer what don't want to be found? It said if’n ya ever hear the Heilong is comin' ya way, you’s best find a way to git yerself gone or they'll spill your blood just fer breathin'. It even said that they gives the Reavers a bad name……………If’n we only gots three hours … we best get a wiggle on. "

John's progress and just a small bit of info

LV-426, Atmo Processor, Upper floor, 8:25 am PT
John moved through the control room and to the ladder to the next level up. Although not an expert on terraforming, John was pretty sure of what was awaiting him and he wasn’t disappointed. The upper most level was dominated by a huge tank in the centre of the room. This tank would have been used to break down frozen elements of atmosphere (Nitrogen, oxygen, CO2) for rapid dispersal. After that, the tank would have been filled with water and a genetically enhanced algae that would super produce oxygen. Above, in the ceiling were vents leading up to at least half the building height of blowers, turbines and fans to force the gases into an atmosphere. Amazing to thin kabout as it took decades to complete.

The transparent aluminum of the tank was stained with algae and John shook his head in disgust that the Terrraformers did not tae the time to clean the tank properly. Of course, that meant someone could harvest the remaining algae if they had the time, but right now, John did not.

He moved back down to the main floor and started to fire up the battery for the control system. He would need to find a schematic of the building to find the best fit turbine – otherwise he’d be crawling through tubes and shafts for hours.

"Go Hwong Tong (Enough of this nonsense)!" Firing another shell into the air, the captain looked about and declared in his most authoritative voice, "Calm down and gather about. Now."

The blast did not stop everyone from panicking but it did stop many. The boys from the physics lab, the Queen Bee and her girls, and a smattering of other lords and ladies seem to draw strength from Captain’s Wyatt calm demeanor and unwillingness to give into madness. Lord Hood was off his feet and beside his friend Havelock, asking Willow if there was anything he could do. But at the call of Wyatt’s voice he stood up to stand beside the Captain.

“My friends, we must listen to Captain Wyatt. He has gotten us through so far, we must be ready to do as he says to survive.” Lord Hood exclaims.

As the crowd quieted Ash started, “That fits…. These Mercenary guys are the Heilong Commandos. They was in my Big Guns and Bigguns mag….. Matherson clears his throat, “Well these men seem to be looking for a fiddle of some value to be going through all this trouble and I can guarantee you it is not in that case.” He points to the musicain holding the silver case. “Captain, My men and myself will offer whatever aid you wish, but I demand my case be returned to me, and you better talk to this pretty lady about where the other case is.” He says moving his finger to Beatrix Kiddo (Jessie).

Justin attempts to open the case and becomes highly agitated when he cannot, “This is not the case. I need my case back! It holds a Stradivarius! It is a violin from a supreme craftsman from Earth-that-was. There are only two in existence. It is so valuable that people would have killed for it back on Earth, making it worth, “ Justin looks around at everyone staring at him and the bodies at your feet, “More than all our lives together. By Buddha, they are after the Stradivarius and I don't know where it is now!"

All eyes turn to the young lady in the slinky dress...

The truth shall set you free! Maybe!

A priceless violin? Is that what was in the case she had hidden? Jessy had seen that the cruise was called the Stradivarius Cruise and that a special performance was planned but she didn’t really pay attention to that sort of music. If that is what she had stashed away she had to think of a way to hang on to it, though the thought that a bunch of cut-throat mercenaries were after it did kind of sour the milk a little bit.

“What?” she said when people looked at her, “Don’t look at me; Do you see a violin?” She lifted her hands to show that she didn’t even have a case. A thought entered her head and she immediately put her thought into action.

“How do we know it isn’t in that case after all?” she said then turned to Matherson, “You seem awfully concerned with that case and getting it back. How do we know your aren’t involved in this conspiracy?”

Jessy made sure her voice was loud enough to carry to the panicky passengers around them who no doubt were wondering about something that people were willing to kill an entire ship full of rich passengers to get. Her false-a-ficator kicked into full bore now as she got rolling.

“Think about it people,” She said to the assembled people, crew and passengers alike, “that Merc ship got here awfully fast, it had to have been in the area. Hell it could have been what caused the ship’s distress. Of course, attack the ship and cause an evacuation knowing that the crew would try and get the musicians off the ship with the violin."

She turned as she spoke, playing to her audience, "I think I read, in a brochure or something back on ship, that the Violin was on loan for this special Cruise performance. I bet the owner of such a priceless artifact would have loads of insurance on it. What better way to collect the insurance and ensure the return of his precious violin than to send a ship of Mercs to hijack it en route, then destroy the ship and all survivors once the violin was recovered?"

Jessy paused for a moment to let that sink in, but then continued, “I say we open that case,” pausing to point at the silver case in the musician’s hands as she looked at Matherson, “if you can Sir, and show everyone here if it is the thing putting their lives in danger.”

The results of Wyatt’s spent shells wasn’t as impressive as he’d hoped, but it was a start, and it did get Hood on his feet and backing Sung’s play.

“My friends,” Lord Hood exclaimed. “We must listen to Captain Wyatt. He has gotten us through so far, we must be ready to do as he says to survive.”

As the crowd quieted Ash started in with an explanation of his findings that didn’t sit well with the captian, “That fits…. It even said that they gives the Reavers a bad name……………If’n we only gots three hours … we best get a wiggle on. "

Matherson cleared his throat on the coattails of the young gunman’s explanation, “Well these men seem to be looking for a fiddle of some value to be going through all this trouble and I can guarantee you it is not in that case.” He pointed to the musician holding the silver case. “Captain, My men and myself will offer whatever aid you wish, but I demand my case be returned to me, and you better talk to this pretty lady about where the other case is.” He said moving his finger to Beatrix Kiddo (Jessie).

The musician fumbled with the case until frustration took over, “This is not the case.

As everyone turned to gawk at the young woman with whom Wyatt had conversed briefly with before the whole thing blew up, Captain Sung turned to look out towards the hills a thoughtful look in his steely blue eyes.

“What?” Beatrix declared innocently when people looked at her, “Don’t look at me; Do you see a violin?” She lifted her hands to show that she didn’t even have a case. “How do we know it isn’t in that case after all?” she said, then turned to Matherson, “You seem awfully concerned with that case and getting it back. How do we know your aren’t involved in this conspiracy?”

The woman playing Beatrix made sure her voice was loud enough to carry to the panicky passengers around them who no doubt were wondering about something that people were willing to kill an entire ship full of rich passengers to get. But Wyatt’s thoughts were elsewhere. He scanned the distant hills where scans had shown caves upon first arriving on the moon. Then his eyes flicked over towards the buildings John was still at.

“Think about it people,” Beatrix said to the assembled people, crew and passengers alike, “that Merc ship got here awfully fast, it had to have been in the area. Hell it could have been what caused the ship’s distress. Of course, attack the ship and cause an evacuation knowing that the crew would try and get the musicians off the ship with the violin.

"I think I read, in a brochure or something back on ship, that the Violin was on loan for this special Cruise performance. I bet the owner of such a priceless artifact would have loads of insurance on it. What better way to collect the insurance and ensure the return of his precious violin than to send a ship of Mercs to hijack it en route, then destroy the ship and all survivors once the violin was recovered?"

When the woman paused for a moment Wyatt turned to look at the ship, and then back towards the hills, before she continued, “I say we open that case, if you can Sir, and show everyone here if it is the thing putting their lives in danger.”

The idea fully formulated in his brainpan, Wyatt turned back to the woman and motioned her inside Roc with a wave of his shotgun. “You there. We’re gonna have a talk in a bit, an’ we’ll get to the bottom of this whole case luh suh in due time, that I promise. You sir,” Sung turned his attention to Mr. Matheson. “An’ yer men, might come in handy here in a bit, but as with the young miss here, there appears to be somethin’ of an interestin’ connection between y’all an’ that which has brought such distress t’ me an’ mine. So, if’n ya want t’ be helpful, you’ll take up temporary quarters inside my ship an’ be ready t’ converse when the time comes. An’ you, musician, you’ll be doin’ the same. Asher, see to it they’re all comfortable in different quarters fer the time being.

“Lord Hood,” Wyatt turned to the gentleman who was being so helpful. “I’d take it kindly if’n you could help see t’ Havelock. He’s a brave man an’ he’ll not be dyin’ today. Once yer done helpin’ make sure he’s comfortable, I’d appreciate one more act of kindness.

“Them mercs are like t’ come back, an’ I don’ want none of these here kind, good folk, under fire like they was last time. There’s some caves a ways off that direction. I’m askin’ you t’ lead these good people there, an’ keep them safe ‘til we send word that it’s safe t’ come back.” Turning to the crowd of people Wyatt called out loudly, “Now, I know it ain’t somethin’ comfortable that I’m askin’ y’all t’ do, but it is the safest thing. Once I’m done speakin’ with this fine fella here, I’ll be askin’ him and his men to take their guns along with Lord Hood here t’ offer y’all what protection can be had.”

Turning away from the group, Wyatt met Ma’s eyes briefly. One of the stable aspects of his life, when she looked pointedly at the silver case that the musician held, he paid attention. She wanted to know what was in that case, and Sung felt the same way. They had precious time to put his plan into play, but whatever lay inside the cases that these mercs were killing for could possibly come into play. He had to know what it was, and he was done playing.

“Wolf!” Wyatt called out loudly. “John’s waitin’ on ya, an’ Time isn’t a friend o’ ours right now. I want those parts back t’ Roc sooner rather than later. I’m expectin’ a miracle. Make sure you pass that on t’ John when ya see ‘im next.

“All righ’, Havelock needs t’ be moved to the infirmary, so let’s be ‘bout it.”

Wasted Youth

Mommy and Daddy were sleeping in the moonlight. Slowly I opened the door, creeping in the shadows right up to the foot of their bed. I raised the Violin high above my head and just as I was about to bring the Violin crashing down upon the center of the bed. My father woke up screaming "Stop! Wait a minute! Stop it boy! What do ya think you're doin'? That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument!"
And I said: "God Dammit Daddy! You know I love you, But you got a hell of a lot to learn about Rock 'n Roll"

As Wolf manhandled the last of the ‘Marshals’ to just before the Rocinantes ramp. He could not help smiling sarcastically at how brave the liner passengers became now that they were no longer in danger. If not for Ash, Matherson and his electro cane, and the rest of the Rocinante crew, these jing-mei yong duh*1 high society types would still be running. Then Dillon started yelling and laughing, Wolf could only shake his head at the futility of the lead ’Marshal’ in trying to look brave.

"You think you won? You bought yourself three hours, maybe four at most. Wilson will bring the others, no escape for you hun dan meddlers, fiddle will be ours soon enough. Mark my words, the Boss is in too deep to let this go, he’ll kill all of you to get that treasure.” He laughs hysterically, "The Heilong are coming! You'll wish for Reavers! You hear me! You'll wish for Reavers!!"

Treasure Shah muh Ching-wah taso*2 treasure. However as he thought this Ash rushed up to him seemingly out of breath…

“Wolf,…. we got no short of ugly ridin’ in on us… them Huen Dahn ain’t Feds,….. they’re Black Dragons,… Marauders.”

“Ahh who? Do you mean the Heilong? Big and bad right there was just yelling something about them” Wolf replied having no clue what Ash was talking about. However Ash never got the chance to answer him as Wyatt quickly kicked off the effect of being stunned and had a dangerous look in his eyes.

"You brought Tian Fuhn Di Fu t' me an' mine, Dillon," Rocinante’s captain said in a dangerous and low tone. "I'm gonna open your brainpan and dispose of wha's inside like it was spoiled foodstuffs in about three seconds. You got that long, you Cheong Bao Ho Tze Wong ba Duhn, t' make me think twice.”

However before Dillon could reply to Wyatt’s command everyone gathered suddenly could hear popping sounds suddenly come from inside the armor of all three ’Marshals/Black Dragons‘. A quick look inside and Wolf could see that each of the three’s head, or what was left of it, was splattered all over the helmet interior and Dillon’s skull and blood on the ground. Tzao-gao*3 Why could they have not waited until Wolf had stripped the armor from them. Now he and Ash would have to dip them in a bath of cleaning solution, ~sigh~, just more work after the engines and ship were once more space mobile.

However once again this proved to be too much strain for the passengers of the cruise line and blind panic took hold. As some started running to Rocinante's hold, Wolf with Ash’s help managed to block some while others just ran without rhyme or reason and many were just crying about dying on this rock and no hope for survival Then Wyatt was walking over, picking up his shotgun from where it had fallen and firing it up into the air. Wolf watched as Wyatt looked about, fired a second shot into the air and quickly took control.

"Go Hwong Tong! Calm down and gather about. Now."

As the crowd quieted Ash was finally able to respond to Wolf’s question about these Heilong and Black Dragons being one and the same.

“That fits…. "

“Tah-shr sou-yo dee-yure duh biao-tze duh MAH!*4 Ash you have got to be joking. First we rescue a bunch of useless high society types, then because we do so we take damage from their exploding ship causing us to crash land here. Then a bunch of Chiang-bao hoe-tze duh*5 merc’s try to kill us because of a music man and now you tell us this!. What’s next a hoe-tze bee dio Wuh duh ma huh ta duh fung-kwong duh wai-shung doh*6?”

As Wolf ran out of breath a loud clearing of a throat from Matherson brought them all attention to him.

“Well these men seem to be looking for a fiddle of some value to be going through all this trouble and I can guarantee you it is not in that case.” He pointed to the Music Man holding a silver case. “Captain, My men and myself will offer whatever aid you wish, but I demand my case be returned to me, and you better talk to this pretty lady about where the other case is.” He finished and as Wolf watched pointed his finger to one of the female Liner passengers just now coming out of the Rocinante.

As the unknown lady, clearly thinking about her response before speaking, The Music Man fumbled with the case until frustration took over,

“This is not the case.

Wolf was almost rocked off his feet not believing what he had just heard. All this over some type of music instrument? What the hell was a, what did he call it, a Stradisomething? anyway. Ok Wolf had been sarcastically joking about the Holy Mother and the feces but now he wished she was actually coming for such a contest as dying for a freaking music box was not something the mechanic wanted to fight for. Ship and crew, yes with out a doubt, violin thingi ahhh no. Lost in his thoughts he missed entirely the next few minutes until he heard Wyatt call his name.

“Wolf!, John’s waitin’ on ya, an’ time isn’t a friend o’ ours right now. I want those parts back t’ Roc sooner rather than later. I’m expectin’ a miracle. Make sure you pass that on t’ John when ya see ‘im next.”

“Cap’n I was thinking it might be faster to bring the Roc to the parts then hauling them back here to her. If we use both shuttles to lift her and the mule and the vast manpower here to move her we could do it. While I gather the parts I need to get her Black worthy again you, Tess and John bring her here. On top of that if we get her and all the passengers there we only present one target rather then two and in that one target somewhere is this violin they want so bad so they will hopefully not shoot at it from the Black. With two targets they may do a 50-50 and destroy one as a message to hand it over and right now we need both.”

1) Consistently useless
2) What frog humped
3) Crap
4) Whores in hell!
5) Monkey raping
6) A feces hurling contest with the Holy mother and all her wacky nephews?

When Asher had finished telling about the Black Dragons the musician seemed shook,“This is not the case.” ……….”I need my case back! It holds a Stradivarius! ……….It is a violin from a supreme craftsman from Earth-that-was.…….. There are only two in existence………. It is so valuable that people would have killed for it back on Earth, making it worth. …….More than all our lives together……… By Buddha, they are after the Stradivarius and I don't know where it is now!"
Matherson cleared his throat, “Well these men seem to be looking for a fiddle of some value to be going through all this trouble and I can guarantee you it is not in that case. …..Captain, My men and myself will offer whatever aid you wish, but I demand my case be returned to me, and you better talk to this pretty lady about where the other case is.”
The crowded turned to look at the lovely young lady in the evening gown.

“What? …………Don’t look at me; Do you see a violin? …………………..How do we know it isn’t in that case after all? ……….You seem awfully concerned with that case and getting it back. How do we know your aren’t involved in this conspiracy?………Think about it people, that Merc ship got here awfully fast, it had to have been in the area. Hell it could have been what caused the ship’s distress. Of course, attack the ship and cause an evacuation knowing that the crew would try and get the musicians off the ship with the violin. ..I think I read, in a brochure or something back on ship, that the Violin was on loan for this special Cruise performance. I bet the owner of such a priceless artifact would have loads of insurance on it. What better way to collect the insurance and ensure the return of his precious violin than to send a ship of Mercs to hijack it en route, then destroy the ship and all survivors once the violin was recovered?"
Wyatt interrupted the lady, “I say we open that case, if you can Sir, and show everyone here if it is the thing putting their lives in danger.”
With a wave of his shotgun he turned back to the woman and motioned her inside Roc. “You there. We’re gonna have a talk in a bit, an’ we’ll get to the bottom of this whole case luh suh in due time, that I promise.” Turning his attention to Mr. Matheson “You sir…….An’ yer men, …..might come in handy here in a bit, but as with the young miss here, there appears to be somethin’ of an interestin’ connection between y’all an’ that which has brought such distress t’ me an’ mine. So, if’n ya want t’ be helpful, you’ll take up temporary quarters inside my ship an’ be ready t’ converse when the time comes. An’ you, musician, you’ll be doin’ the same. Asher, see to it they’re all comfortable in different quarters fer the time being.”
“Yes, Capt’n”’ Ash responded to Wyatt. The GRZ rested slung over his shoulder but the kid laid his hand obviously on the Python strapped to his thigh. Nodding toward the Roc, “If ya all would be so kind as to come back inside,” he drawled with the polite authority he’d been practicing since the survivors were brought on board. The musician was starting to get a look of panic as he was being separated from his group. “It’ll be fine”, the kid said his as let the grim look go and smiled. “Capt’n just wants to sort out the facts……and it’s a lot more comfortable inside.” Asher walked next to the musician following Matheson and the Courier.

Before Jessy turned to follow Ash, she looked like she was about to say something to Wyatt, possibly a denial, but then she nodded and simply said, "I'm Sorry; it was not my intention to endanger your crew or ship."

She joined Ash and the others, stepping in front so that Ash could keep an eye on all of them. She was a little worried about where this was all headed but she still walked proudly with her chin up and her shoulders squared.

The kid knew that they were in the middle of a fine mess and that he needed to keep to business…. but that Courier sure knew how to walk.

Before they could reach the cargo ramp those helping Haverlock hustled past them as they rushed the wounded man to the infirmary. Watching them Ash said, “Just follow them…the quarters you’ll be staying in are just past the medical room.” They walked through the passenger common room and past the infirmary. Going up a few steps they entered the passenger quarters gangway. Stopping Ash said, “Mr. Matheson, you take the first room down there to the left,” as he point to the room next to Sifu’s. “Please go on and make yourself comfortable,” he watch as the man in White climbed into the cabin and closed the hatch.

Turning to the other two he led them down to corridor to the right. “You can wait in there”, Asher told the musician as he point the cabin on the left. The scared man nodded and climbed in pulling the hatch closed behind him. Asher heard the lock clink.

“Miss, that’ll be your cabin there,” as he pointed to the one across the corridor to the right. The young lady turned to enter the cabin. Hesitantly Ash spoke up. “If you don’t mind… I’d like to talk with you a bit afore Capt’n Wyatt gets here,….....It could be very useful for all of us.… We could go back to the settin room if’n you’d like?”

Jessy looked at the young man, remembering him from earlier as being one of the first crew members she had spoken to directly. She remembered that he didn't buy her courier story; she was sure he wanted to talk to her about the case.

She nodded and moved into the Lounge area; she moved to the chairs just inside the door to the left and sat down. She cast a glance at the Infirmary and a worried expression briefly flashed across her beautiful face and then she sighed and turned to him."Ok, what do you wish to talk about?"

The Courier was still dressed in the revealing ripped golden lame gown that accented her figure and as she leaned slightly forward. The cool tone of her voice didn’t match her body language. She sure was looking nice but Asher decided to keep his distance and leaned against the bulkhead.

“When you tried too hard to tell me that storey in the cargo bay about being a courier I thought it smelled then. I told ya I really didn’t care about the case cuz it could just be salvage. Well now that salvage has got us in one Ta Ma Duh mess. We all know now that that salvage is worth a whole lot of credits……Now what you done before you got here is pretty much your concern…and we aren’t all angels here either…but there comes the time when you gotta decide if the….salvage…is worth the risk.”

Asher shifted his weight and removed his hat. “Now I’m just saying, that if a person were do something to help save a bunch of well heeled folk that could vouch for her…… and to help someone like Capt’n Wyatt…. who might know some folk that were…say…lesser upstanding folk that might be alook’n for pretty lady what done things not so upstanding……and convince them to forget her past foolishness…….. Well that could be worth a whole lot more than a few credits.” Pausing to give her a knowing smile he continued,….“Besides..it’ll be mighty hard to stay alive while trying to find someone willing to buy a too famous,.. really old… fiddle.”

The gunslinger straightened putting his hat back on, “There I had my say and I hope you really think about it. Wyatt will be here soon so you’d best get to your cabin for a bit.”

Jessy noticed how the young man looked at her body; she was used to such attention and if the situation were different she might play on that and use it to her advantage but she sensed that this time it just might get her into more trouble.

She listened quietly to the young gun totting kid and when he was done he could see a contemplative look upon her face. After a few long seconds she nodded and then rose to her feet, as she headed to her cabin she spoke just before entering.

"I appreciate your concern and I will consider what you said," she entered the room and as the door closed he could hear her add, "thanks!"

Once the door was closed, Jessy plopped down on the bed and sighed; what a pickle this was turning out to be. There was no way she would be able to keep this violin; she knew some fences, in her line of work it was necessary, but she doubted any of them would want to touch that item as it would be too hot.

She was also feeling guilt at her part in this situation; she wasn't a bad sort, not really, she just had a string of bad luck it seemed and this time it had brought this ship and it's crew into it. None of this had been her fault really, but now she had a choice to make, she just hoped it wasn’t too late.

medic!

Willow had been horrified to realize that Dillon and the others had been booby trapped by their employer, and, if Dillon's crazed laugh was any indication, with their full knowledge. Knowing failure was not an option made these men even more dangerous, and the thought of more on their way made Willow shiver.

But she had more immediate concerns: Havelock was still alive and still conscious, in defiance of any rules about bullets and blood loss. "You are a defiant one, aren't you? Well, no martyrdom for you today, my love, not on my watch!"

"Mr. Matherson, is it? "WIllow called out as she put pressure on Havelock's wounds as best she could (three holes and two hands). "Might I borrow your men again? I promise to return them. "

(Assuming agreement) Willow quickly got the men to lift Havelock, an anxious Lord Hood helping as requested by Wyatt. They made their way through Rocinante's cargo doors and into the medical bay, where Willow's previous patients still slumbered.

"Buddha's pudgy toes....never expected to exceed capacity here," Willow murmured smoothly, keeping her expression serene. "Lord Hood, would you wake Mr. Bridges-san, and move Miss Amber over to the side bench? She's still got some resting to do. I'll send for her mother once I have Havelock stabilized."

While the men bemusedly hurried to do her bidding, Willow once again donned her medical coat and a fresh set of gloves. She retrieved a fresh med kit from the sterilizer and used the scissors to cut away Havelock's jacket and shirt. Once she had a clear view of his chest, Willow's eyes widened and a low "oh my!" escaped her.

Havelock's chest resembled 20 miles of bad road: scars crisscrossed a ribcage that seemed to have more depressions and protrusions than properly curved arches. Willow couldn't find more than a square inch of flesh that hadn't been wounded at one point in time or another, but of course, the three most recent injuries drew her eyes.

"Sponges!" she demanded imperiously, not looking up, and she nodded crisply when her outstretched hand was filled with the surgical sponges. She cleaned away the blood from the first wound and began to probe delicately with forceps fully expecting the bullet to have penetrated too deeply for her to find without resorting to surgery. Instead, she felt more than heard the metallic clink of forceps against bullet almost immediately, mere millimeters beneath the skin. She shifted the forceps to grasp the bullet, then pulled it out cleanly, dropping it into the metal tray someone proffered. Eyes wide, she peered into the wound, then explored gently with a gloved finger. Rigid scar tissue resisted her probing, and she began to laugh softly, even as her eyes rose to meet those of Havelock.

"You're not an old warhorse, love, so much as an old tank! You have been through so much! Let's see if these other two will be as easy, hmmm?"

Willow continued her steady work of patching Havelock up, offering pain relief if he needed it, but indeed, all three bullets had been defeated by the dense scarring on the old warrior.

a little further - time for a plan

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field, Outside rear of Rocinante, 8:40 am PT
Lord Hood looked at Captain Wyatt with some confusion clear upon his face. "Caves? What caves? Surely the ship or the Processor building would work best? And you don't mean to actually fight these men do you? If they are half as bad as your young crew member suggests, maybe we should just give them the violin and let them go? Captain Havelock needs medical attention. many of these people...most of them have never been in danger in their lives. I admit you know more than I on fighting and tactics but I'm not sure that I can keep all these people safe."

(allowing for a reply here)

Asher gathered up Beatrix, Matherson and the two bodyguards, who seemed willing enough to follow as long as their boss said so.

"Mr. Matherson, is it? "WIllow called out as she put pressure on Havelock's wounds as best she could (three holes and two hands). "Might I borrow your men again? I promise to return them."

Hack and Slash looked to their boss who nodded and waved them away. "Go. That is a brave man there, help in any way you can." he looked over to Asher standing by, "with your permission of course."

(assuming a yes)

The Bodyguards lift the wounded Havelock with care and skill of people who had moved wounded before. Asher mused silently about how much or how little he wanted to know about that. He watched the two go towards the infirmary with Willow in command and then escorted Matherson to one room and Beatrix to another. As he left Matherson behind, the gentleman said, "Young man. I am being polite and patient here, as I understand that none of this is any of you or your crews doing. However, I do intend to claim what is rightfully mine. So while you are dealing with unwanted trouble, and mercenary that want to kill of a violin, please keep in mind that I am a very dangerous man to cross, but I am a very very valuable ally to have on your side."

(reply)

LV-426, Infirmary of Rocinante, 8:45 - 9:15 am PT
Willow moved around people and had Havelock brought to the operating room. Out of the corner of her eye, Willow saw that Amber looked very strung out and weak but Cameron seem to back to original colours and mobility.

Willow continued her steady work of patching Havelock up, offering pain relief if he needed it, but indeed, all three bullets had been defeated by the dense scarring on the old warrior. She was able to remove the three bullets and start the dermal mender to healing the wounds left behind. It was a marvel to her though - Havelock was lucky indeed. She recommend rest for a day but she doubted seriously that the old warrior would listen, so she better seal him up well.

It was then that Willow realized who had been assisting her throughout the operation. Both Bodyguards had taken up the roles as nurse and assistant during the surgery. "We been around a hospital room a few time Doctor. Kinda a occupational thing." said Slash, "Knowing what to do and how can help keep you working if you know what you mean."

LV-426, Atmo Processor, Upper floor, 8:45 am PT
John got the power going easily and hacked his way passed the simpleton version of a security code that was left behind. (Really, it was almost insultingly easy. Might as well use 36-24-36, it would have stumped you longer) Once he had accessed the on line schematics and brought up an image of the turbine positions, it would be easy enough to find a replacement for the drive pod.

(assuming Wolf will call here to inform John of situation. John can remind Wolf that he has radio on the frequency of the Mercs or tell Wyatt himself)

I admit you know more than I on fighting and tactics but I'm not sure that I can keep all these people safe."

Wyatt stepped up a little closer to Lord Hood. He was still kicking off the effects of the blue blast, and he wasn't altogether sure he had completely rid himself of whatever drug that was the little hussy had used on him. So, he focused on each movement drawing the iron from his veins to maintain the appearance of complete control.

"We know who these fellows are, Lord Hood," Wyatt explained quietly. "Handing over the violin won't secure our lives. Fact is, these very bad men were willing to blow up the cruise liner to get it. In order to keep these very fine folk alive we've got to put them someplace where the mercenaries would never expect them to be.

"Our only chance of getting out of this is to fight. But what we've got is that old instrument, and an entire moon. Please trust me when I say tha' we're gonna do all tha' we can t' protect these people. Your help in gettin' them t' the caves an' keepin' them out of sight will go a long ways towards this end. We're doin' the best we can with Captain Havelock. Can I count on you, sir?"

(OOC: Will play out Hood's answer.)

Sung made his way inside Roc with an even stride that came a bit easier with every step. He was beginning to feel more like himself the closer he came to the bay, and that was encouraging. At least, as much as it could be considering the situation they were in.

“Cap’n," Wolf caught up with him just before the gangplank. "I was thinking it might be faster to bring the Roc to the parts then hauling them back here to her. If we use both shuttles to lift her and the mule and the vast manpower here to move her we could do it. While I gather the parts I need to get her Black worthy again you, Tess and John bring her here. With two targets they may do a 50-50 and destroy one as a message to hand it over and right now we need both.”

"You an' I were thinkin' along the same lines for the most part, Wolf." Wyatt stopped and looked up towards the pale sky. "We ain't movin' Roc though. We're gonna move the violin. We're gonna give them too many targets t' allow them t' consolidate their forces. We've got cameras we can take from Roc to get pictures o' the case in at least three locations. Get the cameras, an' one o' the cases. I don't much care which one, though if you can keep those that are obviously a bit more connected happy in the process, I'd appreciate it. You an' John are still performin' tha' miracle for me, but in gettin' you back there to help John, the Kid an' I will be joinin' you to take a few snapshots o' the case at the facility. Then, we'll take some more at another location, and more again at Roc. We'll broadcast wide from Roc these pictures so tha' the mercs'll pick them up along with a message tha' draws 'em in.

"You got any explosives? If not, we've a cargo bay full o' the makin's fer some."

(OOC: I seem to remember he does...)

"We'll pick out a shiny little hole at the facility that'll appear a good place t' defend. Only, we won't be there. Rig the place t' blow so any o' those merc types get sent there we don' have t' deal with here." Wyatt looked Wolf in the eye. "Any concerns, 'r questions?"

(OOC: Will address anything that comes up.)

Stepping inside Roc's belly, Sung caught up with Asher and Trish where he once again relayed his plan to divide and conquer. He tasked Asher with figuring out a good location to take some shots in the hills away from the caves, someplace they could get to in a reasonable amount of time, but which would require the mercenaries sent to that location some delay in reinforcing those sent to siege Roc. Trish would need to help secure the ship as much as possible, as Wyatt didn't want any more damage happening to Roc than need be. Wyatt quickly found Tess and asked her to keep a close eye on the sky, radar, all sensory equipment. It was vital that they weren't caught unawares. Then, he made his way to the room containing the "courier" who had previously been in possession of one of the cases.

"Miss," Sung removed his hat as he stepped inside the room, closing the door behind him without turning his back on the young woman. "I'm no' one t' beat about the issue, so here's how I see things: You are in possession of, or the knowledge of, one of these cases that has been causin' me an' my crew a whole lot o' issues. I've got a mess o' fine an' mighties t' deal with an' t' be frank, I don' have much patience left. I am askin' nice for you t' hand over the case, an' I don't much care whether it is truly yours 'r not at this point in time. Should we survive what's comin' I'll be happy t' help sort out ownership. But 'till then..."
