Just thought that I'd drop in and say...WOOOHOOOO!!! Summer semester is officially over and I am actually going to get to be around a bit more. I'll try to get another post up in the next day or two. Sounds as though we've got a couple of new players and I for one am excited that we're going to continue.
Crap....I really was hoping to use the most secure console on the boat for that call...I don't think that we want the Fed's to know that we hooked-up with a cargo outbound from this rock....so, Jason will just have to see if he can get Grace to send the wave herself...that way it can't be tracked and is done below radar...
I don't think you need to worry about the feds. In order to know about our cargo, they would need a way into our computer. Concidering the ship can only hold four people and we saw all four enter the bar (well at least three). There is no one to hack into our system.
If you're still worried, here is an idea. While the feds are still in the bar, contact Blinky and get all the details. Make the call very short and very direct. Then get Grace to download the conversation onto her tec. (Assuming the message system is simmliar to email or phones) Then delete the conversation from the ships computer. That way we have the message secure and the Feds have no way to find out about it.

This is the way it is ....
My thoughts on the "wave" messages at the time and today is based on radio wave as I understand them and concept on how "waves" could work in Serenity.
Waves are long range messages through space that use tachyon pulse to make person to person possible over vast ranges of space. They need a pulse beacon and a powerful transmitter. You only have one pulse beacon in a ship with multiple stations.
Grace basically took the communication tech from the ship when it was being stripped and refitted. So if you send a secure message to someone, you are still going through the same system. Grace is too....cautious to have left a back door open.
So in short, you can send a secure message from the bridge. There would be a comm station on the bridge, in the infirmary and in Grace's room. Plus one in the shuttle that would be simplistic and have only the most basic security.
The encryption software and black boxes are for Grace to hack the cortex, which is different from sending waves.
NOW - if someone believes this is wrong and has a different opinion then sound off please. Communication is a very grey area in the TV series vs the Movie so I am open to different theories.
I hope I get the details on the new doctor soon because your "new" captain is gonna develop an embarassing and highly itch rash soon if he doesn't stop stealing my jokes!

Oh gee whiz, what am I getting "Chicken Pox?", lol.
If you'd stick to movie and book references your jokes would be safe. I'd miss most of those, but old TV and food references I'll get.
Ok, story wise, I'll working on my background of Jon a bit to get a hold of his character. I need to find some more info on the war to relate his time spent to his age and how long its been since the war. Seems to me they've worked three years on the boat but how long was it after the war before they started the work. (Did I miss something in Q&A or somewhere that gave this timeline background.)He's 26 so was I'm trying figure how long he spent in the war, was he 18 when he went to war or what? Did he get a commission as a junior officer right away because of his time spent on a boat? I'm just assessing his experience and setting a time line with Tess. That will make story stuff fit and help me guide his actions.
Found the right Q&A Post!
Ok, so 2 years after war they escape and find boat, one year to fix, 2 years of working together to now.
So Jon was 21ish at the end of the war and was a Captain.
If he joined at 18, got a 2nd Louie for having life experience that gives him 2-3 years in the service to move up to Captain and get himself captured. This can work, just need to fill some more, figure when he and Tess got captured. They could build a strong bond in less then a year, especially in war time. They were both without family and could have quickly "adopted" each other. Hmmmm....this is started to feel real right and make sense.
Tess is a year younger and that would fit with him out ranking her. She's been in a year less than him.

It's a really short post but at least it's a start. I'll get some more up and things will start to roll.
You gotta jump in before you can swim, so here we go!!!!
Well I pulled Ken's action of grabbing the bottle out of the post, I thought I had read something on that from an earlier post, but i guess I just confused actions of him grabbing a glass, yeah added a little to ptting in tis jacket. Sorry Ye Olde, really thought I had read something on it. Isn't "Edit" wonderful?

I am waiting on Phelan to reply to a PM I sent but I can go forward without his answer.
Our "new" Doctor has not sent me anything and has not replied to my messages.
I want to get the game moving so I will do a post to move things forward, let Phelan fill in the blanks on conversation and keep the doctor in the background for now. If I don't get a doc replacement by end of this week, I will probably put in an NPC doctor like Trish is the NPC within Rocinante.
