Nuts and bolts......

Glad I was able to set up a way to "in game " information. I can use some "out of game" information to help me. I have seen the Serenity movie but haven't seen most of the shows. Anyone know where I can find them "free" in sequence? Hulu only has them randomly for free.

Also, do we need to keep a pilot on the bridge at all times?

What is the normal "Food"?

I was going to make a pot of coffee but didn't know what they called it. Is this stuff in the game books? I didn't go back to my books before my post.

A bunch of you seem to be original Firefly fans as I was an original Trekky. Yes, I was there for the first year of Star Trek. I missed the pilot, but saw the first with Capt. Kirk.

I also saw the first episode of "The Flintstones".

So kids help me out here.

In response!

Hey Ody~

Thought I would answer your questions in order:
  • Not sure where you can see them free aside from Hulu. If you have Netflix, they have the series available on instant streaming.
  • The pilot isn’t required on the bridge at all times. There is an auto pilot of sorts, but if you want to do anything other than fly in a straight line to your destination, then you need someone on the bridge.
  • If you look earlier in the Q&A thread, you’ll see that not only is the main book available from that …free to download site, but also a supplemental book called Six Shooters and Spaceships. It has a lot of sundries listed in it. But, I’ll just go ahead and list some food stuffs here for reference! [also, if you look around page 11 of the Q&A, I posted up a supply list for the ship… and we bantered around about it for a while, though I don’t think it has been posted up on the main character portion of the ship] I can give you the price list if you'd like, but I just know we have that list somewheres!
    From the main Serenity Book
Foodstuffs, Canned: While not as good as fresh
food, canned or otherwise pre-prepared food is still
a fair bit better than processed protein. Since such
food keeps indefinitely (or at least a whole lot longer
than the fresh stuff), food packs and canned fruit are
popular among settlers and ship crews. The given
price buys two or three boxes of different kinds of
food, allowing one person to eat decently for about
a week. Rationed, the food will go farther.

Foodstuffs, Fresh: This is what it’s all about:
fresh vegetables, fruit, and meat. Unfortunately, real
food is fairly expensive; folk can’t usually afford it
unless things are going real smooth for them. Most
often, fresh food is bought in small amounts or is
carefully rationed over a period of time, at least by
those who live in the black.

Foodstuffs, Luxury: This is the kind of fancypants
yummies you can’t even find most places on
the Rim. A pound of fresh strawberries, a chocolate
ice cream cake, caviar—such count as luxury goods
to folk who live on the Rim. The units in which the
goods are sold depends upon exactly what the food
is. The price can vary as well, but whatever it is, it
will almost always be quite expensive.

    Foodstuffs, Nutrient Bars: Nutrient bars—a
Newtech Alliance ration—are perhaps the most
compact form of food ever developed. Each bar is
about the size and shape of a gold ingot and each
is wrapped in foil. The actual bar is a brownish
compound, nearly tasteless, but at least it’s better
than protein paste. If sliced thinly, a single bar can
provide 30 days’ worth of nutrition for one person.
The person will still need water and additional
calories, but the vitamins, minerals, immune
supplements, and so on will allow them to subsist on
    an otherwise minimal diet.

Foodstuffs, Protein Paste: Tubes of colored
and (supposedly) flavorsome protein paste are the
standard diet for spacefarers in the ‘Verse. The
paste is sometimes molded into different forms and
cooked different ways. Sadly, it tastes about the same
no matter what you do to it. Healthy, if boring, the
paste stores a good long while.

Spices, Common: Whether it’s protein paste,
canned vegetables, or fresh meat, a sprig of
rosemary can make your day a little brighter.
Spices, Rare: Popular in the Core for those
who can afford high class dining, rare spices such as
saffron can be extremely expensive. A good cargo to
carry, and even better to have if you can afford it.
    From Six Shooters
Fresh Fruit: A rarity on the Rim, especially
    delicacies such as fresh strawberries.

Protein Chips: A common snack found
pretty much everywhere, protein chips are soybased,
    salty, and tasty.

Rotgut: Crude alcohol brewed in some such
distilling rig. It tastes something foul and is
just barely on the friendly side of toxic, but it’s
usually free. Imbibing more’n a cup of rotgut
requires an Easy Endurance (Willpower +
Vitality) roll or the drinker feels nauseous and
    suffers a fearsome hangover.

Snack Bar: A snack bar is a single serving
of either nutritious or delicious (rarely both)
foods such as chocolate, dried fruit, grains, or
even vegetable matter. One of the most popular
brands of snack bars is the Fruity Oaty Bar,
mostly due to their ever-present marketing
efforts that blanket nearly every planet in the
    ‘Verse.

We also have a garden bunk onboard (room 12 I believe), so we’re growing our own fresh veggies. I’ve got Tess slated to run it (being farmbred and all), so I’ll get a list of some easy to grow vegetables that we’ve got in our bunk.

  • Coffee. I’d say there’s coffee. This world has been developed from a mixture of Chinese and American culture, so I definitely know that there’s tea, and more then likely coffee. With our financial situation, I wouldn’t say that it’s the best coffee, but if we throw in a horseshoe, I’m sure it’ll make it taste better!

Don’t worry Ody, I’m a Trekkie too! It’s difficult not going there when I’m talking about how Tess pilots the ship. Really difficult.

I can help

You can find most of the episodes by typing in "firefly ep.1-14" or by typing "Firefly ep. (Name of episode)"
The names in order are:
Serenity
The Train job
Bushwacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Reymonds (really funny)
Jaynestown (Hysterical)
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in space.

Normal food is generally protien paste (which taste gross and has the texture of a chocolate bar. It has all the minerals, vitamins you need to survive) and canned goods. It really rare to have fruits, veg, meat and seasonings but they still have them avaible.

I think they still call it coffee in firefly, but I don't think it is very common.

No, we don't need the pilet driving all the time. It's only when something is approaching or we need to do some turns/ avoid our deaths. In Bushwacked, Wash atcually is playing the game with everyone but leaves when the sensor start beeping.

Keeping Characters in character.....

Cool beans!! Really good stuff, thanks.

I believe Al is more likely to award Plot Points if we use stuff correctly and keep with the structure. We can use all the points we can get. I'm sure it won't be long before our GM throws some nasties our way.

I have a "quick reference" sheet where I try to put this kind of stuff. It has a few common Chinese words and phrases, so Jon if keep using the same ones, well I guess that's human nature.

coffee is coffee

I don't play food as a checklist-you-are-in-danger-of-starving mode. Fresh food is very expensive but I will play this meal as a "use the last of the good stuff before it goes bad" kinda of meal. Mostly it is protein paste made to look like something edible. You wouldn't have fresh meat, that would be an extreme luxury (like we can have ground beef or get fuel).

Tea and Coffee are common. Good Tea is easier to find than good coffee. Sweeteners would be all artificial (Stevia) with sugar being rare.

Plot Points
As some are new, let me go over plot points again. You all start with 6 points. These points can be used in actions to add a die to help you succeed in an attempt to do something. Now I play PP as a d6 for 1 and d8 for 2, d10 for 3 etc. (game starts at d2 which I think is cheap)

So Jon wants to shoot bad guy who has the doctor hostage. He wants to be sure he hits so he adds a plot point. Than means will add a d6 to his skill+ability roll.

If you are wounded, you may use a plot point or two to reduce the damage. So you take 6 wound damage and ask to use a pp to reduce, I roll and get 4 so you only take 2.

You can also change your misses to hits or fails to success but that is more expensive. 1 pp per point to make your roll succeed.

You may also use pp to add or change the story. Like you need to have a contact in the town, spent 3 points and hey, Gorde from high school happens to be in the phone book.

Now you get plot points for playing your complications well.
I would say everyone has so far so everyone is now at 7 points.

Hope this helps.

Info

Al,

Hey I'm just curious if the update post (or at least the part for Jason) was in response to the info requests that I sent you? As far as my post goes I'd like to acquire a partial guest list for the party and then maybe see what Grace and I can dig up, so to speak, on the guests in the hopes of finding us another job.

Guys,
My apologies for not being on much lately. If you need something from me send me a PM (I check these on a regular basis) and I'll get back to you. This is the best way to do a collaboration post with me. I'll try to get my post up today as I'm apparently going to be home today...cause I'm a little sick.

Merci,
Phelan

my bad

Phelan - I must have deleted your pm in a fit of inbox cleaning. My apologizes. Let me know if you need anything else.

A Guest list? Easy to find and it reads like a who's who of society, parliament and military - not to mention more than a few of the shady upper crust as well (Highly placed Tong). What were you looking for exactly because I don't have a list of names per say.

BTW - I am assuming that since it is a time deadline and you don't want to hard burn at max all the way, you are flying the most direct route. This will take you through highly populated fly zones. Nothing wrong with that but it will mean you will be seeing other ships passing by.

stump

Jon have a d6 intelligence which is average. As to "cougartown" that depends on how you want to play it. The doc is hot for captain but Jon might be hot for her but scared to say anything, or be "credo" about dalliances with crew or he could be completely clueless. Remember with character switching, we have not really established a rapport yet.

Let's find them Windmills..........

Hoo..hoo...could we have the makings of a Don Quixote and Dulcinea del Toboso?

With an Ody twisting who knows where that could go.

Maybe Don Ameche and Frances Langford. (Oh those shows were great.)

Anyway, there is a lot opportunity for fun stuff.

Opportunities

Well how about posting some of those opportunities?

I am hoping for a post from Grace about what she found. I have been working on something but cant really post anything but filler until that info comes into play.

Hope to put something up tomorrow......

Ok, ok...I know you're chomping at the bit.

I've just sent Al a PM to get some advice before I run down that road. I'll do that a back post.

But we all need to start spouting about our feelings and what we saw.

Grace tapped the barrel the same as the marshal so hopefully her observations will be good.
