I...do not know.

I just realised I was reading an outdated edition of the rules. So I'm updating.

So yep.

Depends what you mean by "equipment"

Hammer,

"Equipment" in M&M does count against the 120 points. Equipment is an "Advantage" in M&M 3E, I believe... It is simply "Powers" that can be taken away from you.

So, you might had a Gun, which is just a Blast power that can be taken away.

I believe 1 PP gives you 4 equipment points.

Here's a link to the 3E M&M Hero's Handbook:

http://cs.selu.edu/~cpierson/Files/Mutants%20and%20masterminds%20Core%20Rules%203E.pdf

Enjoy!

Thanks Ayrn

Skari-dono gave me a link and I am consulting it now

I would like to have a character who uses the following equipment:

Brass Knuckles (Silver Laced) which costs 1 each = 2

Heavy Pistol (firing silver bullets) costs 8

2 Daggers (silver) cost 2 each = 4

Bullet Proof Vest cost 3

Total = 17 points

Question: How do these costs affect my 120 points ???

Cost

I checked the book. You actually get 5 equipment points for every power point you invest in the Equipment advantage.

So, the equipment would cost 17 equipment points or 4 power points... and you would have 3 equipment points unspent.

However, if you "silver" weapons somehow do additional damage to specific creatures, then you will need to ask the DM if there is an additional equipment point cost.

Peace,
Ayrn

Also...

Two things:

1) If you hope to use the daggers for ranged attacks, they would also cost more... not sure how much... it would be an extra feature to the weapon.

2) I don't think you would have to pay multiple costs for the same weapon, unless have 2 weapons some how allows you additional attacks. Equipment is consider "unlimited", so puchasing "Brass Knuckles" should mean you can have brass knuckles for both your hands for the cost of 1 equipment point. The equipment merely gives you the ability to do 1 bludgeoning damage to your unarmed attacks.

Similarly, purchusing "Daggers" should only cost you 2 equipment points. You could have multiple daggers, but you can still only do 1 piercing damage.

The DM will have to figure out a way that you can become "disarmed" or "lose" your weapons... and maybe that will be reflected in the fact that you will need to buy multiple items... I'm not sure.

Yeah... so starting to figure this out...

So, here's an example of costs...

Let's say you wanted your hero to weild two heavy pistols and to be capable of firing both of them on the same round.

You would get the Heavy Pistol equipment with the Multiattack extra, which would cost 3 equipment points per damage rank (Ranged Damage = 2ep/rank, Multiattack extra = +1ep/rank). This means, at rank 4, the dual pistols would cost 12 equipment points (or 3 power points invested in Equipment with 3 equipment points remaining).

Make sense?

Zilver Wreker character concept

Zilver Wreker (Dutch for Silver Avenger) 30-32 years young 5'10” was a Private Investigator who was tracking Saboteurs & was captured & tortured & left for dead 5 years ago when the Saboteurs blew up a chemical/munitions plant (PI's body was never found & presumed blown to smithereens)

STR: Rank 2 = 4 points

STA: Rank 3 = 6 points

DEX: Rank 2 = 4 points

AGIL: Rank 3 = 6 points

FIGHT: Rank 3 = 6 points

INT: Rank 3 = 6 points

AWAR: Rank 2 = 4 points

PRES: Rank 2 = 4 points

TOTAL = 40 points

Immunity [Defense] Rank 20 = 20 points

Insubstantial [General] Incorporeal Rank 4 = 20 points

Invisibility = 8 points

Leaping [Movement] Rank 5 = 5 points

TOTAL = 53 points

Equipment Rank 5 (25 Equipment Points) = 5 points

Languages Rank 3 (4 Languages in addition to English) = 3 points

Uncanny Dodge Rank 4 = 4 points

Dark Vision = 2 points

Range Damage Rank 4 = 4 points

Multi-Attack Rank 4 = 4 points

TOTAL = 22 points

Final 5 points on Skills = 10 Skills

Intimidation = 2

Expertise = 2

Investigation = 2

Acrobatics = 2

Athletics = 2

***** Depending upon the setting and if Skari-dono approves it, 'The Lone Ranger' radio show debuted in Detroit, Michigan in 1933 and the Zilver Wreker carries 2 Heavy Pistols with Silver Bullets to emulate The Lone Ranger, but he Kills and Maims the Criminals he pursues

He also carries Brass Knuckles and depending upon the Equipment he is allowed, either 2 Daggers or 2 Swords (all laced with Silver, including the Brass Knuckles)

Hides in Catacomb Tunnels beneath a Church (Priest or Minister helps tend any wounds or lends an ear to help him and supplies Sanctuary and Silver for his bullets)

He also hangs out in a Speak Easy for a few drinks and to observe and get leads against Criminal Elements and he Smokes Reefer or Hashish (but he relentlessly wreaks havoc against Opium and Heroin Traffickers and Sex Slavers)

He will Kill or Maim with Little or No Remorse and Wreaks Vengeance upon whoever he fancies to disrupt their criminal activities and Busts their Operations

He is probably Insane, but knows what is Just and Unjust & Fights to Make Things Right, but he Does Not Work with Police

He is also a Sucker for a Beautiful Woman or Women, even Against his Better Judgment

Also depending upon the Setting of Camelot, his 4 Languages would include French, German, Spanish and Chinese (if there is a China Town in Camelot) and as for the Dutch name Zilver Wreker that is the only Dutch he understands (with either terror or thankfulness in the voices of those who speak his name on the streets)

He just likes the name in Dutch

***** So that is my basic concept to work with and dependent upon the approval of Skari-dono

Well...

In addition to what I noted in the PM I was writing while you posted this:

The catacombs should count as Headquarters (p.174 in my copy of the book), but can count as having 0 EP invested (it's fine if you have a little something to call your home). I'd recommend you read that part though, just in case you want to make some changes.

The Priest/Minister should be either a Minion or a Sidekick (probably a Minion), using the appropriate Advantage. Otherwise, you're on your own.

As I told Hammer in the PM, unique equipment should count as removable powers, i.e. devices. Weapons that are silver are certainly unique.

Nobody is here

I am being drawn into this game whether I want to or not. Oh well. I love superheroes.

I am thinking of a Powerhouse Archetype called “Mr. Nobody”. A plain type of guy, worked as a janitor at the ACME lab and was basically the kind of person no one noticed. Then one day, he was accidently locked in an experimental chamber where his body was bombarded with Zygam waves. He became bigger, stronger, powerful and almost imperious to harm. Unfortunately the waves also changed his cell structure so his skin is grey and leathery, his hair is completely gone and his face is grotesquely scarred. He broke out of the chamber and ACME assumed it was an explosion. His old life was over and he was assumed dead.

So, he modeled a costume from a ACME fabric that is see-thru on one side and black on the other - So his mask covers his entire face. He dresses in a black gambeson, with a black overcoat, heavy boots and a black fedora. His catch phrase is “The criminal always think that nobody can stop them. Well I’m Mr. Nobody.”

So sorta Marv from Sin City, meets Mr Incredible, meets V for Vendetta with a bit of The Question.

Now I have the 2e M&M rules. Which version are we playing as I may need help?

Well...

I was going to use the 3rd edition rules, but if there's more interest in using the 2nd edition I think we can safely switch (Hammer's character might need some tuning to make the translation, but otherwise I think we'll be fine). Note that any 'whatever' reply counts as a vote for 3rd edition.

either way

I am new to this system either way so as long as you can help or point me to a 3e rules, I am good with it.

This would...

...be my first experience with the 3e rules, myself. I've played around with 2e a bit so I'm not completely unfamiliar but, after having read the 3e core rules, I can see that there's enough of a difference to make me skitter a bit.

Going to tack a whack at putting together a character sheet for Samael today and see if I've got it figured out... If so, I'd be glad to help out with character generation for others.

Also... Core Rules... Thanks, Ayrn!
