clerical powers...

Point of fact - Cedric's explanations about his ability to ask Solanis for light are not entirely accurate.

Clerics of Solanis get two special powers.  (1) They turn undead as if they were a level higher than they actually are.  (2) They are granted two bonus light spells per day.

So unless Cedric casts light a third time in a given 24 hour period, he is not actually diverting any divine favor he might otherwise receive (healing spells, compat spells, blessings, etc).   If those extra spells are not used, then... nothing happens.

He cannot, say, hold those in reserve and then ask for extra healing.  The granted power is the granted power (in this case, the light spells).

Well...

...Cedric is a young-un and he's been through some pretty harrowing business of late. Maybe he just misremembered.

yep

Oh, sure.  No harm, no foul.  This could be handled via RP - Cedric forgot/didn't pay attention to that - or we can edit after the fact, allowing that the player made a mistake with how these things work in my 25 year old out of print rule system.

Only here so I don't get fined

I'd be remiss in my duties if I didn't mention "rear lookouts" on page 69 of this Q&A.

That's all.

Hmms

Reminds me how I made a flashlight in 5e with light by putting the lit object into a cup

If the light is a special power, then it does make sense to use it. Especially without needing to worry about potentially dropping fire on anyone's toes if the torch were dropped

Also, I had to wonder if the wording might result in that kind of teasing

Let there be light!

Well daemn! I totally forgot the extra light spells. Thanks Olan! Then again, in his mind the power still comes from Solanis even if can't use the particular parts of it for healing.

Let's keep the post as it is and see if our magnificent leader takes the issue up with Davena.  That's not what Cedric is aiming for of course. He is just about as cunning as a haypole is.

Hmm then again, I might edit it a bit anyway.

Wow.  Rear lookouts, on page 69.  Thirteen year old me is trying really hard to squint and make that dirty.

Succeeding, too.

this adventure...

As you folks know (or, I think that you know), this is my fourth try at this game, over the span of a decade.

As you also know, the adventure has never made it this far in any of my previous tries.  Some of those were due to players flaking, but let's be real - it's mostly my fault.

Now, the thing is, the base idea of this adventure was not mine.  I downloaded it off of a now defunct website dedicated to RPG adventures.   Made some adjustments in the names, moved it to Audalis, etc.

Yesterday, I dug out the original source files for the temple (you know, since I've never actually run this part of the game)... and realized that this adventure is, at best only "inspired by" that original download.  A few points are somewhat similar, but I have entirely changed the underlying plot from a generic "evil dead, ooga booga" that happen to have some gross ghoul/human sex stuff in the background to "horrifying plot to end the world as we know it, featuring some really disturbing crap".  Literally none of the sentient characters even existed in the original adventure.

So I guess that I can feel... good (?) about this being my story?  And you guy can absolutely blame the bad stuff squarely on me.

Now, let me get back to fixing the temple stuff to where it makes more sense.

I only play a 32 year old woman on TV, I am actually two gnomes in a trench coat.

I debated the teasing, but it was such a lame joke and Kith is pretty nervous, I sort of considered it her trying to take her mind off of more giggler attacks, and I'm guessing Ch'dau would see that plainly, considering she has never really shown any sort of lack of confidence before. Not that the teasing truly helped her, but such is life.

And Olan, yeah! This is 10393736% your creepy creation now. I'm glad I've been able to be a part of this amazing group who've been able to get this far too!

On some level I do wonder...

What kind of experience my original character for this game might have had. What strength might she have lent, and what hits she might have taken. She certainly would have not been able to weather the hits to her psyche as well as Aranwen. That was by design though. At the time I wanted a character susceptible to the horror that was hinted at.

That said, she still would have been motivated by a sense of duty, a desire to see the land reclaimed by nature, to remove the source of the unnatural miasma and fog.

In the end, I am enjoying Aranwen far more.

In my opinion, this story is one you've made. The idea may have come elsewhere, but that's generally the case with all ideas. You're the one that gave it a life of its own

Reralae and Raven

Speaking of people making ideas so much their own, your taking of Arancon and turning him so quickly into Aranwen has been brilliant. Of course the prequel stuff helps to create more of a bond for me/Kith, and Blackthorn is an incredible player, but I've absolutely loved watching how you made her yours.

I think it can be an little odd taking over someone else's character--it was certainly difficult for me at first to find Kith's voice, but she feels more like mine everytime I write her.

Aranwen and the life Raven has breathed into Cedric have just been fantastic to watch.

agreed

I mean no offense to Blackthorn, but he had been distracted for a long time.

The transformations of Cedric and Aranwen have been fantastic for the game.

^All of that^

Yuh-huh! No disrespect to any of those who came before, but the life and depth that have been brought to Aranwen and Cedric by their "new" players has been amazing!

As to the game/plot/story itself - regardless of where it may have found it's origins, Olan, you have truly made it your own and I'm super happy to have been able to participate in all of it's ooginess! In fact, I'll go so far as to say that this game was a major factor in the resurgence of my own creativity. Hell, I've been doing Kazari world-building and, inspired by the characters, here, have spun things off into our little "prequel" that's just flying along! So, kudos, O' Webmaster and, more importantly, THANK YOU!
