Memorable Munchkins

Okay, we've all seen them in our games - players who, for whatever reason (news to RPGs? juvenile? sharp as a bologna sandwich?) just don't seem to "get" the point of role playing games. The ones who strive only to kill the monsters, collect the most treasure, earn the most glory - to "win", even though such is impossible in a good RPG. The ones whose characters must be the fastest, the strongest, the best at everything they do.

That's right, the munchkins. Share your tales of munchkinism! Don't be shy, they can be your own (most of us grow out of it, eventually)... or they can simply be things you have witnessed.

Ah yes

My first character was a halfing (basic set) with a vorpal short sword of force solar energy (killed about everything evil instantly). He had a ring of invisibility, a ring that made him cast spells like a wizard, and some sort of energy based armour if I remember correctly.

Speaking of munchkins. There is a great game called Munchkins made by Steve Jackson Games. It is quite fun to play as it has all the fun munchkinisms of the game without all that silly roleplaying.

yep, it's awesome

The Munchkin game is big fun.

I suppose I've done my share of Munchkinism. I made this Alaghi fighter with two two-handed swords who kicked butt with or without weapons. His Thac0 was nowhere near in comparison to the rest of the 7th level party. I knew all the rules and how to manipulate them so that my character was maxed.

Yes, it was cool, but also not. I've learened to appreciate a simple character that has some fun traits over a maxed out killing machine.

I've never hogged treasure though. Been with plenty of people who would kill other players for the nicest share. Sometimes it does make for a nice session when you see other players fighting over stuff

The King of the Munchkins!

Greygrey! I mean, really, this dude has the gump to rule a whole world (Aetalanta) and then later a galaxy (Star Wars), forcing his influence and power over everyone to do his bidding. He is so insecure that the other players cannot touch him (he's under the guise of a "gamemaster"), and he puts everyone through his paces just because he thinks its fun!

I mean get that!

Ooh...let me see...

Back in the days of 3rd Edition, I ended up roleplaying with this one chap playing an elvish bard.

He was actually quite into roleplaying. but put him near some dice he morphed into the munchkin to end all munchkins. He would employ all manner of ploys to hide his rolls from the DM - rolling when someone else was, rolling behind his books/character sheet, rolling behind his arm - and funnily enough would end up with a 17+ roll every time.

On the umpteenth time of this happening the DM decided I could roll for him. Sadly he didn't last too long after that.

Arrow the Elf

The other story I have is of this guy who no matter what the campaign was would play Arrow the Elvish Acher (again in 3rd edition).

Before he got eaten by a gargantuan spider (yes it was as funny as it sounds), he had racked up a crazy medlee of classes. He was a Fighter 2, Cleric 2, Sorceror 2, Ranger 2, Rogue 6, and Arcane Archer 2.

Needless to say he put my single class paladin to shame.

One trick pony

I tend to make characters that are really good at one or two things and leave everything else for the rest of the group to take care of. I've got a ftr17 that dual-wields longswords (oversized two-weapon fighting) and currently has a to-hit bonus of +32.

He can't do much if he can't get right next his target, but once he's within 5ft he'll ginsu just about everything. And since his weapons are adamantine, I do mean everything.

some Years back here on the inn, Admiral started a 20th level Evil campaign where we got 20th level gold, evil alignment, and no restrictions. Let's just say that when other players found out my Straight wiard / archmage could out melee the straight fighters, out cast the straight cleric's and cause other pc's to explode without saving throws even hopeful of reaching, it cause quite a stir in the q/a and pm's.

I am of course speaking of Valerian LeFey, Fallen Angel (Reversed Half Celestial template) Evil genius, and magic item's specialist.

That's what two weeks of character building does, especially when you've jst moved into a new apartment, with naught but cardboard boxes for furniture and your computer at the time lol.

Dude, that guy with minmaxed. He hit harder than my raging werewolf. And the he just wiped out rooms of people by shooting fire. I mean, wtf.

I don't think I munchkin, but I had a player that was obsessed with using vorpal scimitars + two weapon fighting and just hacking off peoples heads. Every character of his had them, even wizards and such.
