Cynil

Cynil barely sits, and when Cor finishes she stands, "Tell me where he is, I must go to him."

She had to get there, to be with him, to do what she could. She starts for the door, even before Cor tells her where he is.

She will walk and pray for her spells at the same time. She is determined to do whatever is in her power to save Conall and get him back to health. She prays to the Earth Mother (Juro) to watch over him as she travels to the temple.

Let him rest

Cor stood and followed Cynil. "Let him rest lass. There is naught you can do for him right now. He is weak from the wounds and travel. Rest is what he needs. Mayhaps tomorrow you can visit him. I promise you will see him again soon."

The New guy....

(Back posting a little)

Having tended his wounds and with the unorthodox healing spell from Cor, Kenji felt stronger with only the blood of the battle on his clothes to remind him of the injuries he had sustained while fighting the strange demons.

He helped with the stretcher carrying Conall and never seemed to waver along the long journey to this town of which Cor said they would meet up with the rest of his party.

Cor couldn’t help but notice that Kenji wasn’t a great conversationalist, he spoke when he had something to say though and he rather intelligent though he was no scholar.

“Who or what were those things all with the same face?” he asked of Cor not long after they embarked on their journey, “I have never seen the likes of them before.”

After Cor’s response he would nod and remain quiet for awhile apparently lost in thought. He did speak to Cor a bit about his adventures since coming to this land and how he had felt much like an outsider to most because of his racial differences.

“Most people don’t know what to think of me.” he said with a chuckle.

By the time they arrived in the town of Main, Cor would have a sense that Kenji was a good man, a man of honor, and one that once his word was given he would die rather than break his oath.

(Present)

Kenji walks alongside Cor after they dropped Conall off at the temple to be healed. He had watched silently as Cor took care of seeing that his friend would be taken care of by the priests. Cor had explained that the healing of the leg would require much greater magic then he possessed. Kenji had only nodded and when they left he followed along side the dwarf. They had looked the odd pair walking through the town and his strange garb, now cleaned of the blood in an obliging stream they had came across before town, drew attention everywhere.

When Cor mentioned getting something to eat, Kenji nodded vigorously, he was hungry and a good meal was what he needed after a long trek through the woods carrying a wounded man. Entering a establishment and taking a seat, Kenji just followed along Cor since he was out of his element here. They had barely seated themselves when a group of people coming down the stairs drew the dwarfs attention.

“Well don’t be standing on them steps too long now or breakfast be getting cold” Cor spoke to them, obviously these were his friends. Kenji stood as they came down to greet the dwarf.

"Conall?" one of the women asked of Cor sounding concerned about the fate of their wounded friend.

Cor took Cynil by the arm and led her to a chair. "Tis best you sit las. After seating her and allowing the others to find a spot as well he continued. "Connel lives but tis a tenuos hold on life he has. Right now he is in the local church, unconscious. I found him badly wounded and surrounded by those strange woodmen. This fine warrior" Cor motiones to the samurai, "was there with him.
When the others looked to him he bowed to them slightly as was about to introduce himself when Cor continued.

Connel fought bravely but fell unconscious from wounds received during the fight. I did what I could for him but he has not regained consciousness. Best I can figure he managed to fall into a trap of poisoned spikes. Must have hacked off his own leg to get out as he was missing a leg when I found him. Alas I am not skilled enough to repair his injury."
Kenji again started to introduce himself, but once again the dwarf interrupted and continued his narrative. Kenji sat down and smiled slightly as he remembered what he had learned of the dwarf since meeting him. Cor loved to talk and Kenji, always the good listener, had obliged him by letting him talk. He was not upset by this and merely waited and knew that eventually introductions would be made.

Cor called for breakfast to be served to all and then began his tale. "Well as you all know the fire got a bit out of hand and Connel and I were separated. Ater a bit I heard a scream of agony and knew it was Connel. Now fellow such as him don't scream like that without a reason so I took off to find him. What happened next was most unexpected..."

"Tell me where he is, I must go to him."
said the same woman who inquired after Conall before. He guessed that they had a close relationship for her to be so worried about him.

Cor stood and followed Cynil. "Let him rest lass. There is naught you can do for him right now. He is weak from the wounds and travel. Rest is what he needs. Mayhaps tomorrow you can visit him. I promise you will see him again soon."
Kenji merely sat quietly watching the whole scene as it was impolite to speak out when he had not been introduced to Cor’s friends.

A Familiar Calling....

Haila lingered with what was left of the group and had participated in searching for the lost members. Hope was beginning to fail when each night she would mutter a prayer soundless for their safe return. Conall, Cor, and Arwin. The next morning she had to catch herself from surprise as the familiar call of the Owl rang loudly in her ears.

When finally she realized what was going on Arwin was perched on her companion's shoulder, and Cor was informing us of a tale of his adventures, and introducing the possible newest member of their group. Studying the man, she could tell instantly that he was a Samurai and was very different then the rest of the members of the group. Nodding politely in his direction she spoke a quick greeting "Good morning, and I humbly thank thee for saving our lost comrades. I'm Haila" she gave a short but respectful bow in the stranger's direction.

After introductions her gaze returned to Cor and she smiled to him "it's wonderful to hear your voice again" she had greatly missed each member of the group they had lost. Soundlessly she listened to the rest of the conversation, absent mindedly.

Backposting (trip to Main)

Cor talked and Kenji listed; and on the rare occasion Kenji talked and Cor listened. When Kenji asked about the strange men Cor gave him the best answer he could."What they are I am not sure. All I know is they wanted to eat one of our party in exchange for letting us use their campsite. I am afraid that all that transpired is my fault for I drew first blood. Well, actually I turned the thing into dust but you get the idea. As a result of the fight, a fire was started and Connel and I gave chase into the woods. His injury lays heavy on me. He is a brave lad but troubled and this was the last thing he needed." Cor finished and saw Kenji deep in thought.

After a bit Cor spoke again. "We could use one of your skill in our group. I warn you, our journey has been filled with naught but danger and t'would be unlikely that will change. Evil has become strong in the land and the balance is out of kilter. For that reason alone do I take his trip. The others have their own reasons; I know them not. Connel here was being tested for advancement in his order; I was his judge for it has always been that the Knight-cleric of Odin chooses which paladins are ready." For a bit they walked again in silence for it seemed Kenji had little to say.

"I do not mean to offend but what exactly do you do? Never have I seen one equiped in such manner. It is obvious that you are no stranger to the use of a blade but even the blades themselves are unfamiliar to me." Cor listened to Kenji's response, shaking his head in agreement at the points made concerning honor. "Seems we are alike in some ways. Perhaps we would make for an interesting pair.

Once they arrived at Main, the two took Connel to the local church. Kenji attended but remained at a distance apperntly out of respect for the bond shared between Knight-cleric and paladin. Soon Cor's stomach reminded him that it had been some time since his last meal. An offer to seek food was gladly accepted by his new companion.

A New Day Dawns with a New Friend Found.

Back post first full day in Main.
After a good nights rest all set out to do as they had agreed to do, and Ulthok and Divot set off for the towns boat smithy once there they talk to the owner to see if they can gather any information about the blighted forest area and get little. It seems some have complained about an unnaturally darkened area south of Main but no mention of any camp site or any strange creatures. So the two halflings finish their business and come away with two nice canoes for the party to continue on with. The rest of that day is uneventful as they check the rest of the town and find plenty of shopping but nothing of real interest to buy. So they recruit some help and bring their two new boats back to the Inn and place them out front. They finish the day and retire for the night. Since the ladies had tried another excursion to try to find the two missing members of the party and where unsuccessful Ulthok figures any further trips will be the same and they are just going to have to be patient and hold out in Main maybe for a few more days if necessary so that night before sleeping he once again changes the spells he memorizes for the next day.

He rises the next morning a little late for he had a tough night of sleeping with many a bad dream waking him several times so it was with a dreary step that he started down to the morning meal. It was then that he first heard a cry of joy and then one that seemed more question. they came from Cynil who was on the stairs just up in front of him, her last word being “Conall?” With that Ulthok hurries forward to see Cor with his arm around Cynil leading her to a chair.
Forgetting himself slightly Ulthok rushes down stairs to Cor and grabbing the mans hand shakes it vigorously I knew it, I knew you would find your way here. Then again looking around he realizes that Conall is not with him but a strange man is and it dawns on him what Cynil cry was all about. I don't see Conall here by the gods Cor tell me he is alright and safe, where is that big hearted boy? from the look on Cor's face Ulthok takes it that it is not good so the now not so joyous halfling finds a seat and allows Cor to continue with his story.

Ulthok listens to Cors story of his flight from the fire of hearing Conall's cry finding him with his leg cut off surrounded by a dozen or so of those woodmen and of this stranger who now accompanied Cor try to help Conall and fighting for his life against the strange woodmen. So at long last they did prevail and together carried Conall here to Main where he is now with the priest who are trying to save his life.Although his story is a though one all thru it Cor does not introduce them to the strange dressed man sitting with them. so when he is finished speaking Ulthok at once takes it upon himself to introduce himself and his friends to the stranger. promptly jumping from his chair the little halfling slides over to the man in the strange dress not knowing a whole lot about foreign cultures or peoples but having some knowledge about how nobles and those of some foreign cultures act Ulthok both offers his hand in friendship, but also as he does he bows slightly towards the man It is my pleasure to meet you sir obviously a man of high moral values. My name is Ulthok Rydenham from the family Rydenham's of Cormallion. the other who most strikingly resembles me is my brother
Delthak. The others of our party are first the lovely Cynil, next is the beautiful Rayne, followed by the exquisite Halia, and finally the Masterful Lady Althena.
With his somewhat unorthodox introductions over Ulthok awaits a reply from the stranger.

One should have insight into this world of dreams that passes in the twinkling of an eye.

(Backposting)

"I do not mean to offend but what exactly do you do? Never have I seen one equiped in such manner. Cor listened to Kenji's response, shaking his head in agreement at the points made concerning honor. "Seems we are alike in some ways. Perhaps we would make for an interesting pair.
Kenji often took a few seconds to respond to a question, or so Cor had noticed, it wasn’t sure whether he was searching for the words in the Common tongue or phrasing his words carefully, or maybe both.

“I am a Samurai,” He states in a matter of fact tone, his voice showing respect as if the title held much honor in his homeland, “I am what you would consider a Knight in this land.”

He looked down at his -strange- weapons as Cor called them. “These swords are a Samurai’s life.. His blood.. His Honor!”, his voice again filled with respect, “these must be earned.. They can not be bought like common weapons.” COr could hear the pride in his voice the he earned and carried these two swords.

Kenji nodded to Cor comment about them being a strange pair, “Indeed!”

(Current)

"Good morning, and I humbly thank thee for saving our lost comrades. I'm Haila" she gave a short but respectful bow in the stranger's direction.
“I am Tomiki Kenji,” bowing deeply to her, “You may call me Kenji and your thanks is not required…. I did what was needed.. Nothing more!” He said it as if it were an irrefutable fact that none could question.

Ulthok at once takes it upon himself to introduce himself and his friends to the stranger. promptly jumping from his chair the little halfling slides over to the man in the strange dress not knowing a whole lot about foreign cultures or peoples but having some knowledge about how nobles and those of some foreign cultures act Ulthok both offers his hand in friendship, but also as he does he bows slightly towards the man It is my pleasure to meet you sir obviously a man of high moral values. The others of our party are first the lovely Cynil, next is the beautiful Rayne, followed by the exquisite Halia, and finally the Masterful Lady Althena. With his somewhat unorthodox introductions over Ulthok awaits a reply from the stranger.
Raising a brow at Ulthok’s eloquent introductions, the Samurai bows to each of those being introduced to him and repeats his name, “Tomiki Kenji… you can call me Kenji.”

Introductions over he stands and listens intently at the groups conversations about their friends injuries, Cor’s tales of the battle and anything else they wish to discuss. He was patient yet he silently wished they could continue their meal while the tales were being told.

Ideas discussed

The woman listened to everyone around her and smiled as the stranger introduced himself. The smile traced every feature on her being as she spoke softly "It is a great pleasure to meet you Lord Kenji of the Samurai" the final word was spoken strangely for it was a new word to her. The woman had decided that the men deserved a hot meal upon their return and rose to go retrieve meals for her party while they discussed their injured comrade's well being.

Haila bowed slightly as she left the table in search of food to offer their newest guest. He was a strange character, very passionate and proud. The woman was impressed by the tale that Cor had revealed of this strange man's assistance in saving their lost companions. A smile lingered upon her lips as she moved with grace from their presence in search of food. They would discuss their next stage of action over a hot meal.

Rayne

Rayne was overwhelmed, first the reawaken telepathic link with Arwen and second by his exuberant arrival in a flurry of fluffy feathers and squawking. It was all music to her ears. There had been a huge void in her psyche without Arwen’s presences. It had left a part of her empty, without the presence that was Arwen. She reached out her arm automatically but he was not content to land there. He aimed for her shoulder. He settled there lightly with a ruffling of his feathers all the time chattering to her excitedly.

For those first few moments Rayne knew nothing else but the overwhelming joy of Arwen’s return. Arwen leaned against her head and rubbed his head against her cheek begging for attention. He got it. The great eagle owl and Rayne were totally wrapped up with each other. Rayne quickly examined him for signs of injury running her hands over his body to check him out. That completed to her satisfaction she turned her attention to the other returnees. She wanted to hear what happened so she moved closer.

Seeing Cor with Cynil and no signed of Conall, Rayne grew concerned. Silently she pray for Conall wherever he was, Rayne’s attention was caught by the strangely dressed man who accompanied Cor. Rayne moved over to the group Cor returned with Cynil. Rayne studied the young woman’s face but she could not discern much from it. No overwhelming sorrow or joy. She did not want to interrupt her yet. So she listened to Cor’s story.

Cor gave his accounting of what he knew the strange man remained silent on the matter. Cor praised the man’s courage to aid a stranger in a fight, still the man said nothing about his part in the events that had transpired. She also knew that there was more to the story than was being told. Not that it concerned her much. Rayne did have enough to make up her mind about this stranger that had helped Cor and Conall. When Cor was done Ulthok began to introduce himself to the stranger and then the rest of them. Rayne smiled at the effusive introduction Ulthok made. When he was done she stepped forward and offered her own greeting to the stranger.

“Ulthok is a flatterer. I am Rayne Fireheart, Ranger and Pegasus rider. Cor is right that your are the one that should to be commended for your coming to the aid of strangers and willingly standing with them to fight a equally stranger foe. I know I speak not only for myself but the rest of us as well, Thank you for coming to our friends’ aid.”

Rayne offered the stranger her hand in friendship and her normally serious face was softened by a smile of friendship. “We are glad you were there for the missing members of our party. “Be welcome; please let us provide you with at least breakfast.” She motions to a table. “Why don’t we all celebrate our reunion by having breakfast? I daresay we can now all appreciate it.”

Cynil

Cynil listens to all the stories, banter, and introductions, but it is as if she has become one of her beloved trees, she is there physically but mentally, her mind and spirit are her own and another’s. She did not know how it happened, indeed, there was little reciprocation of the same feelings, that she ever detected, but it was there all the same. After the death of Samson, she had vowed not to let anyone get close to her in the way of a deep friendship. She liked and honored all her companions, but that was where they stayed, she even thought Conall was in that position, until the fire had cut off Cor and Conall from the group.

Little did the others know of the dangerous search Cynil had undertook is that first search for the two. Even as an owl she moved in and out of the conflagration of burning trees, was caught in swirling smoke the twisted her about and lofted her into the higher air. With lungs straining from the acrid smoke and heated wings she twisted through the burning forest driven to find Cor and Conall, but most of all Conall. She had not realized till that moment of separation that he had come to mean so much to her. She risked her life again and again for both of them, but had prayed even more so for it to be Conall that she found first.

When Cor stood and followed Cynil. "Let him rest lass. There is naught you can do for him right now. He is weak from the wounds and travel. Rest is what he needs. May haps tomorrow you can visit him. I promise you will see him again soon."

“Unless there is a high priest in attendance in the temple here in Main, then I can do something for him Cor,” she looked straight into the old Dwarf’s eyes. I have a spell that could do a lot for him.”

“Please give me his direction,” Cynil's voice is etched with concern, “I want to at least try and help him all I can.” Her voice drops, “I want to see him, alive, and healing.” Cynil can feel the welling of tears in her eyes; she tries to dash them away when Cor is not looking. “Please, Cor.”

A high priest indeed

Cor heard Cynil's words and somthing inside him snapped despite his best attempt to keep it from happening. "Is there a high priest looking after him!? Exactly who do you think you are addressing lass? I am not some young alter boy but a knight-cleric of Odin and your elder. You say you have a spell to help him; well do you now? Silly me I only attempted two full heals and a cure poison on him to little effect. What wonderous spell do you have that is more powerful than those?" Cor was flushed and his anger was apparent. Did she think that he had done nothing for one he had traveled with many times before; a paladin of his own diety and under his instruction; one who was like both a brother and son to him. "I will not take you to him now for he needs his rest. I promised that I would bring you to his side as soon as possible and because I gave my word I shall. But, do not deign to question my abilities again."

Cor did not wait for an answer but turned and walked out in order to find a quiet place to pray and regain his composure. The quiver in Cynil's voice, the gasping breaths and the tears she thought she had hidden were not lost on Cor. He knew what drove her but her emotion was only one of many form such took. The was a differant and much older form between Connel and Cor. One she could no more understand than Cor could understand hers. In time Cor found himself alone outside the village under the canopy of a large oak. There he dropped to a knee and began to pray to Odin. "Father Odin, forgive my selfish request for you have plans that transcend my feeble understanding. I ask that you not yet call your servant Connel to stand in the hallowed halls but allow him to walk with us a bit longer. There are those here who need him. Grant unto me a small bit of your wisdom that I might heal him of his injuries. If you require a sign of faith on my part I offer my own abilities to you in exchange for the ability to heal him; take away my clerichood if you must in exchange for this boon."

Finally the Rest of the Story

THE TOWN OF MAIN
With their arrival in Main, Cor and Tomiki at once took Conall to the local church. Kenji attended but remained at a distance apparently out of respect for the bond shared between Knight-cleric and paladin. Cor had explained that the healing of the leg would require much greater magic then he possessed. Kenji had only nodded and when they left, he followed along side the dwarf.

With the loud rumbling of Cor's stomach reminding both that it had been some time since their last meal, an offer to seek food was gladly accepted, Kenji nodding vigorously, a good meal was what he needed after a long trek through the woods carrying a wounded man. Entering the only establishment for such, they had barely seated themselves when Arwen flew off the dwarf’s shoulder and headed straight for a group of people coming down the stairs. Rayne for one was overwhelmed, first the reawakened telepathic link with the Owl then by his exuberant arrival in a flurry of fluffy feathers and squawking. .
Turning to them, Cor saw the rest of the party standing at the edge of the stairs stunned into immobility.

“Well don’t be standing on them steps too long now or breakfast be getting cold” Cor spoke to them, obviously these were his friends. Kenji stood as they came down to greet the dwarf.

"Conall?"

At once Cor was up out of his seat taking Cynil by the arm led her to the closest chair. "Tis best you sit las. After seating her and allowing the others to find a spot as well he continued. "Connel lives but tis a tenuos hold on life he has. Right now, he is in the local church, unconscious. I found him badly wounded and surrounded by those strange woodmen. This fine warrior" Cor motions to the samurai, "was there with him.

When the others looked to him Tomiki rose to his feet, bowed to all slightly, and introduced himself

“I am Tomiki Kenji, Samurai, at your service”

The first of the party to speak was Ulthok, after having arrived in the dinning area, he had greeted Cor with a vigorous handshake and as had Cynil asked questions of Conall’s fate, then noticed the stranger among them. With the strangers introduction Ulthok took it upon himself, as Cor comforted Cynil, to introduce the rest of the party now seated around the table.

“It is my pleasure to meet you sir obviously a man of high moral values. My name is Ulthok Rydenham from the family Rydenham's of Cormallion. the other who most strikingly resembles me is my brother Delthak, or Divot as he is know among us, a Fighter. The others of our party are first the lovely Cynil, she who is being comforted by Cor, a Druid, next is the beautiful Rayne, a Ranger/Cleric followed by the exquisite Halia, a Fighter/Mage and finally the Masterful Lady Althena”

The next to speak was Rayne having finally calmed Arwen down enough to be able to respond and greet Tomiki.

“Ulthok is a flatterer. I am Rayne Fireheart, Ranger and Pegasus rider. Cor is right that you are the one that should to be commended for your coming to the aid of strangers and willingly standing with them to fight an equally stranger foe. I know I speak for not only myself but the rest of us as well. Thank you for coming to our friend’s aid. We are glad you were there for the missing members of our party. “She motions to a table “Be welcome; please let us provide you with at least breakfast. Why don’t we all celebrate our reunion by having breakfast? I daresay we can now all appreciate it.”

Haila to this point having been as was normal quiet found herself studying the man; she could tell instantly that he was different of both culture and speech, yet somehow noble. Nodding politely in his direction as she was introduced by Ulthok, she spoke a quick greeting

"Good morning, I humbly thank thee for saving our lost comrades. I'm Haila" she gave a short but respectful bow in the stranger's direction. .

“I am Tomiki Kenji,” the Samurai returned her greeting bowing deeply to her, “You may call me Kenji and your thanks are not required…. I did what was needed… Nothing more”

“It is a great pleasure to meet you Lord Kenji of the Samurai" Haila pronouncing the final word strangely for it was a new word to her.

With Tomiki’s introduction to the party complete, Cor called for breakfast to be served to all and then began his tale.

"Well as you all know the fire got a bit out of hand and Connel and I were separated. After a bit I heard a scream of agony and knew, it was Connel. Now fellow such as him do not scream like that without a reason so I took off to find him. What happened next was most unexpected..."

BACK POST TO ROUND 5 OF COMBAT
(Consider it as Cor’s retelling of events)

Tomiki’s killing of one of the five enemies before him gave him a moment’s breathing room but only a moment as he knew to hesitate was to die. His wakazashi thrown as a spear and his ring activated he moved to the attack. His strikes again true he easily caused grievous wounds to the one before him but as before, this one yet did not drop, striking the Samurai a seemingly lucky hit in return. However, for little damage, this was a new wound and for Tomiki they were beginning to add up.

With his attack over his back to the tree he saw that his short sword had missed but had caused the archer to be distracted and he had not fired this turn, but the second archer had fired, only the speed of the ring aiding him had been Tomiki been missed. With one dead two wounded and too untouched the samurai was still in a very bad spot. As the other two harried him with quick strikes, the two archers took aim once again….

Cor moved as fast as a stubby dwarf could and though nowhere in the class of the Samurai in speed he made it up in strength. Ignoring the almost one-armed stranger he moved just forward of the Paladin and attacked the next. His axe ever moving the dwarf was rewarded with a pair of hits upon another of the Strangers. For the moment, it looked as if his opponent would remain in the fight and strike back, but then as if appearing by magic a familiar looking owl, or perhaps just an owl as they all did look fairly much alike, flew into the stranger's face.

Then it was once again the turn of the two still standing Strangers to attack, the first his left arm useless chose to attack Conall and easily scored a deep hit. The impact causing the Paladin to almost once again lose his grip on his shield and fall to the ground.
The second unhurt attacked Cor and though coming close yet still did miss the dwarf twice.

"Defense only lad, I'll do the killing for today." The dwarf spoke to his friend

“And let you have all the fun, nay Cor that I shall not do”

With the last of his strength drawn from deep inside Conall attacked the wounded Stranger that had attacked him and found himself on its left side, his sword easily striking deep past the Strangers useless arm.
His sword lodged he watched as it was ripped from his hand as the Stranger fell dead.

“See my friend not all the fun can be yours this day”

But those words would be his last for the moment as his strength for now gone and with the new wound yet bleeding he fell to the ground unconscious but alive.

Cor saw this and was about to help his friend when he also saw the archer taking aim at the one who so far seemed to be a friend and knew that allowing arrows to fly now might swing the tide of battle. For the moment allowing Conall to rest, he turned his attention to helping the asian stranger

"So missile weapons it be now, well two can play at that game!"

Cor let fly his battle-axe aiming for the unsuspecting archer's back and was rewarded by a close miss that once again distracted the archers shot. At the same time his other hand drew forth his dwarven thrower, and just in the nick of time, as the unharmed Stranger seeing the dwarf looking away attacked. For the first time in the battle Cor felt the hit and the ensuing flow of blood from his rear left shoulder. With the Thrower to hand the next round he would be ready to either pummel the enemy in front of him or launch another ranged attack……

Kenji did not make a sound at the new wound given to him though he felt the blood running down his skin. Though he was deep into the battle rage to give into simple pain he was yet aware of a large well-made battle-axe thrown at the first of the two archers once again causing that archer too miss. With one of the two for the moment no threat he again attacked with renewed vigor striking out at the ones right in front of him.

His Katana lashing out he attacked the one that was grievously wounded with a Hiki-men slash (to the side of the head) and then followed up with a Tobikomi-do (downward slash to the body) at the one next to him. He completed his attacks with a Harai-age-men (a sidestep to avoid an attack and then strikes to the forehead) of the second man again and was rewarded with hits on both the Strangers bark skinned bodies. The first strike, hitting the more wounded of the two, succeeded in killing him out right the Stranger unable to attack back. The second Stranger with two hits upon him fell back his face in shreds and his weapon dropped but leaving the Samurai with no protection from the last of the two archers as both arrows hit him square the impact slamming him hard into the tree.
Though stunned he was not out cold and could still act this next turn…

"Blast it all, how could I miss that throw?"

Cor yelled as his battle-axe missed its intended target. Still it did manage to disrupt the archer's aim which was a blessing for it saved the his new "friend" from two arrows. Yet moments later Cor felt the blade of the last of the Strange woodman pierce his flesh.

"So you get lucky on occasion do you?" Cor taunted.

His enemy was too close to use the hammer as a missile weapon so instead he simply attempted to bash in the side of the man's skull. With his aim once more on target Cor forced the Stranger to back up, hurt, but not out of the fight as the stranger stopped and moved to attack the Knight Cleric again. However, as it had been before so it was again as the Strangers attack missed.

With his defense for this round successful Cor did manage to take a quick peek in Conall's direction to take stock of his condition, but only the briefest glance. With luck, Cor would be free to aid his “strange friend” the next round. Those archers could take a toll very quickly if left alone…

Kenji grunted at the impacts of the two arrows, he knew he could not take the fire of these two bowmen much longer. He noticed that only one had fired at him, thanks to the short armored friend of the man he had come to help. He was grateful for the assistance but at the moment he would not offer his thanks, that would come later if their was a later.

Seeing the stranger before him was no immediate threat; Kenji launched himself away from the tree towards the two bowmen. His Sandals of Speed giving him faster movement he raced towards them and at the same time using his Katana to cut the arrow shafts protruding from his body like they were only paper. It hurt as the arrow heads remained inside and more blood did flow but he paid it no mind as he used the full speed of his sandals to carry him in a full charge at the two bowmen.

Yelling a fierce battle cry he zigzagged towards them till he was within range, but was only able to attack the first his movement and action almost complete. His single attack against this first archer was messy yet effective as his blade cut deep into the archers shoulder forcing him to one knee, the bow shattered in the fall. The archer so unarmed reached for his sword to draw it the next round. The second archer having finally not been distracted this round was able to knock and fire his arrow pair, but in his haste was only able to give the samurai a glancing blow to the back of his neck.

With his three opponents all now wounded, the third for the moment, missing Tomiki now found himself in a much better position to survive the coming round…

Once more Cor felt the welcome jolt in his arm and shoulder as hammer connected with enemy. His axe cut and slashed but this weapon was brunt trauma pure and simple. The strange man staggered back, injured but still alive. Again the attack upon him was rendered ineffective by his dwarven armor.

"Do ya need lessons in how to use that thing? Even the one-legged man managed a kill. Perhaps I can find a wee lad who can give ya pointers."
Cor continued his taunting as he prepared for yet another attack. He was glad to see his "friend" rush the archers and not stand around waiting to be skewered.
'Ahh, that one knows how to fight.' he thought. With luck next round would see Cor free to aid Conall or his new "friend" as necessary. His ’blunt’ weapon swinging Cor was not surprised to feel the impact of two new hits, the second clearly a death blow, as the last of the Strangers by he and Conall had his head caved in.
With no sound or reaction the Stranger fell dead at the Knight Cleric’s feet…

Having left one wounded opponent by the tree; Kenji focused on the two archers. The one before him going for his sword he attacked this one first. He rushed his opponent trying to crash into him as he held his Katana in front of him to block the man‘s sword as he drew it and keeping him from slashing at him in return. Added by his Sandals of Speed the move was successful causing the Stranger to fall onto his back his sword trapped behind him with this success Tomiki stopped took a single step back and slashed at the man’s abdomen while he was off balance. The tsubazeriai hiki-do attack was, as had the charge successful and the katana cut a clean line along the Strangers stomach releasing its misshapen entrails and life.

As the samurai pivoted to meet the last two Strangers attack he caught another glancing blow by a single arrow into his free hand as the second archer moved towards the trees in retreat. A brief glimpse of the last wounded Stranger showed Tomiki that it too had fled, vanishing into the forest just as the Asian fighter had spun around. The choice now for Tomiki Kenji, Samurai, to give chase or let the Stranger go…

Twice had Cor swung his hammer and twice did his enemy feel the might of an enraged Knight-Cleric of Odin. The first blow staggered the stranger and likely left him unconscious on his feet for he offered no resistance to the second blow; the one that caved in his head. Cor knew the stranger was dead and didn't bother to watch the lifeless body slump to the ground.
Turning towards his unknown ally he saw the last of the two Strangers fleeing the clearing and called out to the mysterious warrior.

"Let them go, if you follow you will likely run into others. Are ya hurt? I can offer some measure of aid if you wish." Unsure if other Strangers were about and not yet ready to trust his new "friend" Cor cast a quick sanctuary spell so he could continue his work undisturbed.

Deep into the battle lust, Kenji took a couple of steps after the fleeing strangers but pulled up as wisdom prevailed. As his eyes followed the fleeing backs of the opponents he performed chiburi, flicking his blade up and then down quickly and to the side flinging the blood from his blade. Seeing the wounded man on the ground and that his friend was still standing he heard himself addressed by the dwarf as he sheathed his sword, walked over to retrieve his wakazashi, and returned it to its sheath. With all his weapons accounted for he then moved to stand beside the dwarf as he turned to his fallen friend who clearly by the dwarves words was still alive

"I've told ya before not be runnin off without me.” Cor addressed the fallen Conall “Seems you have a way of finding trouble; today it looks like trouble found you. Tell me what happened while I check you over."

Cor listened, but when no response came he checked for a pulse and found it weak but there. Carefully he inspected his friend for other wounds and from the look of the leg it was apparent that Conall had encountered some form of trap.

"Fell into a trap did ya lad. Likely poison at work on those spikes. Lucky for you Odin granted me a spell to heal that."

Cor withdrew his holy symbol and began the spell that should remove the poison and after that a healing spells as required. It was with a growing sense of unease that the Dwarf became aware that something was not right. Though he had been able to heal the Paladins wounds the poison was yet very active in Conall’s system, the Paladin’s natural defense against such the only thing keeping it in check. Try as he might Cor knew he did not have the skill of healing to eradicate the poison, it having a magic taint to it, only a master Cleric would have such he knew would need to get Conall to a Temple of Odin soon. With Conall unconscious, yet for the moment stable, the Knight Cleric stood to face the man at his side whose help he would need to get his Paladin friend to safety..

Tomiki had stayed quiet not wishing to disturbed the armored dwarven warrior, clearly some type of Cleric, as Cor rose he waited for the dwarf to speak first.

"Let me take a look at ya. Hmm, not to bad. Now hold very still and trust me, the healing spell is a bit unorthodox to say the least. Wait, where are my manners. I am Cor; Knight-Cleric of Odin and this is Connel“ The dwarf indicated the fallen man, “A Paladin of the same. Now who and what might you be?"

“I am Tomiki Kenji, Samurai, at your service. If you have means you had best tend to your friend he looks near death.”

Kenji had liked the dwarven warrior Cor almost immediately; he had a pleasant demeanor and seemed to care a great deal about his friends. He watched silently as he cared for his severely wounded friend and knew that their was some kind of magic at work but it was of a good kind. Healing magic was the only useful sort of magic in Kenji’s opinion.

The Knight-Cleric, as Cor referred to himself, was a strange title but it sounded noble, sort of like a Samurai. His skill and bravery in combat he had witnessed so he had no doubts about Cor in that regard.

Then without any more warning then that already given Tomiki watched as Cor swung his hammer in a fast arc aiming for the top of his skull. Though it happened fast he was not caught by surprise, he almost never was, and could have easily dodged it using a nukitsuke attack stroke. However, he did not do so some instinct kept him in place as the dwarfs hammer struck him clean on his forehead.

At once he felt the power of the Dwarf’s healing flow through him and knew the Knight-Cleric’s mention of an unorthodox healing magic was just that and that in asking for his trust and Tomiki giving it to Cor was a well-justified act of friendship. With he himself now healed he once again turned to the Knight Cleric’s unconscious friend.

“How is he?” he asked showing genuine concern in his voice. He truly did care if the man lived or died, he appeared to be a great warrior fighting with only one leg and seeming unwilling to just give up, and Kenji didn’t want all their efforts wasted in trying to save him.

“He’ll live but I cannot do anything for his leg or the magical poison running through him only a higher Cleric of my order can do that. As soon as I find me axe, the three of us are off to a small town north of here to hopefully find my companions. You are welcome to come along as in truth I need your help, if your willing to give it, to help me get him there."

With Tomiki’s agreement to travel with him, Cor’s axe once again on him and a make due stretcher created they quickly headed off towards the town of Main. While they walked Cor proceeded to also heal himself as well and in doing so he could not help but chuckle to himself just before he hit himself on the head
'Bet my new friend thinks I am more than a bit touched he does.'

ROAD TO MAIN
Having had his wound tended to by the unorthodox healing spell from Cor, Kenji felt stronger with only the blood of the battle on his clothes to remind him of the injuries he had sustained while fighting the strange demons.

He helped with the stretcher carrying Conall, the strange Eagle owl perched upon its frame or flying above as if to scout, and never seemed to waver along the long journey to this town of which Cor said they would meet up with the rest of his party.

"What they are I am not sure. He is a brave lad but troubled and this was the last thing he needed. I do not mean to offend but what exactly do you do? Never have I seen one equipped in such manner. It is obvious that you are no stranger to the use of a blade but even the blades themselves are unfamiliar to me." Cor finished and saw Kenji deep in thought.

When finally Tomiki did speak he told Cor a bit about his adventures since coming to this land.
“I am a Samurai,” He stated in a matter of fact tone, his voice showing respect as if the title held much honor in his homeland.
“I am what you would consider a Knight in this land. These swords are a Samurai’s life.. His blood.. His Honor! these must be earned.. They can not be bought like common weapons.”
Tomiki continued to tell the dwarf of many things of how he had felt much like an outsider to most because of his racial differences. How though a stranger to these lands he was a good man, a man of honor, and one that once his word was given would die rather than break his oath.
“Most people don’t know what to think of me.”

Tomiki said with a chuckle as he ended his dialogue

As Cor had listened to Kenji's retelling of his journeys and feelings, the dwarf found himself shaking his head in agreement at the points made concerning honor.

"Seems we are alike in some ways. Perhaps we would make for an interesting pair“

Kenji nodded at Cor comment “Indeed!”

After a brief bit of thought Cor spoke again

"We could use one of your skill in our group. I warn you, our journey has been filled with naught but danger and t'would be unlikely that will change. Evil has become strong in the land and the balance is out of kilter. For that reason alone do I take his trip. The others have their own reasons; I know them not. Connel here was being tested for advancement in his order; I was his judge for it has always been that the Knight-cleric of Odin chooses which paladins are ready."

For a bit they walked again in silence for it seemed Kenji had little to say.

BACK TO PRESENT
“Connel fought bravely but fell unconscious from wounds received during the fight. I did what I could for him but he has not regained consciousness. Best I can figure he managed to fall into a trap of poisoned spikes. Must have hacked off his own leg to get out as he was missing a leg when I found him. Alas I am not skilled enough to repair his injury."

Having patiently sat through Cor’s retelling Cynil could wait no longer, rising to her feet and headed for the door.

"Tell me where he is, I must go to him."

Cor stood and approached Cynil. "Let him rest lass. There is naught you can do for him right now. He is weak from the wounds and travel. Rest is what he needs. May haps tomorrow you can visit him. I promise you will see him again soon."

“Unless there is a high priest in attendance in the temple here in Main, then I can do something for him Cor,”
she looked straight into the old Dwarf’s eyes.

“I have a spell that could do a lot for him Please give me his direction I want to at least try and help him all I can.” Her voice drops.

“I want to see him, alive, and healing, Please, Cor.”

Cor’s tightly held emotions and his anger were apparent as he fought to calm himself over Cynil‘s words. Did she think that he had done nothing for one he had traveled with many times before; a paladin of his own deity and under his instruction; one who was like both a brother and son to him.
In aspiration, Cor’s emotions over the fate of his friend rose to the surface and got the better of the dwarf in in his reply.

“Is there a high priest looking after him! Exactly who do you think you are addressing lass? I am not some young alter boy but a knight-cleric of Odin and your elder. You say you have a spell to help him; well do you now? Silly me I only attempted two full heals and a cure poison on him to little effect. What wondrous spell do you have that is more powerful than those? I will not take you to him now for he needs his rest. I promised that I would bring you to his side as soon as possible and because I gave my word I shall. But, do not deign to question my abilities again."

With a sigh and understanding seeing the welling of tears in her eyes as his anger boiled forth Cor fought hard and managed to regain control of those feelings. Realizing that to fight the force of Cynil’s feelings was one battle he would not win he gave her the directions needed to find the church then turned and left the Inn.

With a last look to the rest of the party the Druid Cynil was also out the Inn’s door and gone, praying to the Earth Mother to watch over him as she moved towards the church.
Reaching the Paladin’s side she cast her spell but to her dismay it was to no avail, as Conall remained unconscious and in the grip of the poison within him.

But for a trip or two to get her self a meal, Cynil would find herself by Conall’s side until the next day. With the day spent in a quiet state of joy, yet not without a muted sense of worry, it was not long before night did fall and all but Cynil gathered to sleep a 4th room having been rented for Cor and Tomiki.

And it was as a Knight Cleric slept that he was visited by the great God Odin himself and given the rarest of gifts, a gift given only to one so worthy to try to save a needed friend.

THE NEXT MORNING
Cor woke early and almost immediately knew something was not as it should be. His mind held not the spells that he had prayed for the evening before. There was but one spell in his head, one that by all rights he should not know. With it was a whisper of a voice 'healing alone will not prevail, nature is needed to make him hale, the drain on each will not be slight, seek aid from those of might'. Cor thought for several minutes, turning the words over in his mind. Finally, it dawned on him, Odin himself must be at work here and he understood what needed to be done.

Quickly Cor gathered the others and told them his plan.

"I know how to help Connel; Odin himself has given me the power to cast but one spell this day, a spell that will heal Conall’s leg and remove the magical poison that runs through him. However, my powers alone are not sufficient to channel a spell of this level and so I will require the aid of the other healers. The poison in him is of a magical nature and so the essence of those who wield magic must also flow into him. In the process of healing Connel, a bit of each person's life force, including yours will be drawn from them and given to Connel and so I will require those who are strong of body, including you Tomiki my new friend, as well to distribute the drain so it does not kill any of us. We must go to the temple and form a circle around him; placing one hand on the shoulder of the person next to you and one upon Connel”

With no time to waste the party fully gathered but for Cynil, who was as yet seated beside Conall at the church, moved quickly to join her. With the circle formed, each placed a hand upon Connel. Cor placed his hand upon Connel's head, as he would guide the spell. Turning to Cynil,

"If you would, place your hand over his heart for I believe you may be able to provide an energy none other can."

Cor closed his eyes and began to chant. A sense of warmth built in each member of the party for several minutes. Then, suddenly a wave of intense cold washed over each of them and instinctively they pulled their hands away, all but Cynil her hand seemingly bonded to the heart of Conall. At that, moment Connel's eyes opened and Cor's limp body fell to the foor…

A visit

"Cor, Cor!" a voice called out and the knight-cleric struggled to open his eyes. "Always were a tough one to wake." the voice continued. Somehow the voice seemed familiar yet he couldn;t quite place it. As his eyes adapted to the bright light he saw Grilvin, a high cleric of Odin who had taught him at the temple when he just an adept. "Grilven, how can it be you? You have been dead for many years." Cor asked. "True, I am dead and sit in Odin's Temple. He sent me to guide you on this trip." Cor looked around and as his vision cleared he realized that he was crtinly no longer on Trilogy. "Am I dead?" "No, well yes, umm well both actually." was the answer given. "Come we must go now."

Cor and Grilven traveled thru the Temple and soon came to a large door. "Knock and then enter Cor." Cor did as asked and knocked. 'Come faithful kight-cleric' was the reply aloud or only in his mind? Cor could not tell. As he opened the door, Cor saw a hall filled with men at arms. Upon closer inspection he recognized them as Connel's lineage back many generations. Then he saw Odin himself. Dropping to one knee, Cor bowed. 'Arise Cor and join us at table.' Cor spent the next several hours eating and drinking with the Connel patriarch, hearing tales of valor, tales of joy, tales of sorrow. Finaly one who introduced himslef as Connel's grandfather spoke, "So it is you who keep Connel from joining us this day? He could have been here at the very table you have enjoyed and know sorrow, pain or loss ever again. Instead he remains in the mortal realm where such is rampant and joy is often fleeting; but on occasion sweeter than can be found even here. I am not sure if that is a blessing or a curse you have bestowed upon him."

'You have served me well and so I consented to granting your request to save your friend. He also has served me well. I remember a vow you gave in prayer and intend to see you honor it. However I have plans for you in the future and so will temper your vow to meet my own designs. You offered up your clerichood in exchange for the spell I granted. Such price I except. Until such time as I deem it appropriate you shall have no clerical powers and shall function soley as a Knight of Odin.' Cor felt a strange power wash over him and his mind became empty of knowledge he had carried for the last 125 years. 'Now go and return to your friend.'

Cor felt blackness fill him again and then nothingness. When he next opened his eyes he was laying on his back in the Temple in Main.

It's death is it's own.

Conall stood alive and well, his heart still beating under his breast plate. A light breeze was on the air and the flames of the forest and those strange men were no where to be seen. Conall stood alone in the clearing, the trees opened and a blue sky was his cover above. Conall began to walk, always just out of sight something played in the shadows of the forest, just beyond hearing there were voices. Voices he knew and voices he did not know, there were voices that made him smile and voices that made him proud, but none he could name of face to.

Soon the trees came to an end and Conall found himself in a field of wheat ready for harvest. It was then he saw figures standing some distance away, they seemed to be looking for something or waiting for someone. Conall called to them, they did not hear. He made his way toward them and soon realized it was his 8 comrades in arms. Some gave him pride and honor, some gave him a smile and a reason to laugh, and one among them gave him a reason for his heart to go on. This last one was strange to Conall for he never needed heart before. Luck and Courage were all that carried him through before, that and a good bit of wisdom from Odin and Cor his brother and mentor.

Elsewhere, the body of Conall lye on a stone slab in a room void of any and all luxuries, a monk of Odin sat quietly praying as the goings on in the next room transpired and soon Cor and the stranger that came to Conall’s aid left the small stone temple. For some time Conall was motionless, the shallow breaths were the only sign that the Paladin of Odin cling to this world and had not yet taken his place in the Halls of Valhalla. The monk of Odin after a long day of silent prayer gave in to the fact that he was still but a man and drifted off into a silent sleep. Soon there after Conall’s breath became rapid and a fever took the body of Conall.

As Conall approached his Comrades in Arms, no his friends and now what is his family the sky suddenly grew dark. He looked up to see 8 dark figures. His eyes dropped to his 8 friends and instead of seeing them there stood 8 cloaked and hooded dark figures. Conall’s hand went to his sword hilt and there he froze as an icy hand took his shoulder from behind. “Fear not Conall Glendower of the house Glendower for their death will be much quicker than its own. If it tells us what our master wants it to tell us.” The icy hand released the shoulder of Conall and pushed him forward slightly. As Conall caught himself and stood up. There before him stood a Shadow. Just beyond sight, just beyond sound, just beyond reason but there none the less.

Conall then drew up his sword and a great battle began but always the shadows were just beyond his reach. Until then the ground opened up and Conall began to fall and the shadows took to their winged mounts and began to fallow Conall all the time laugher came from them, “It’s body belongs to them but it’s mind will soon be the master’s” The blood in Conall began to freeze up inside but still his heart continued beat.

Elsewhere in a small temple of Odin the friends of Conall gather around his body. To say their goodbyes or to see him alive and well time would tell.

It was then a rush of warmth came over Conall and he felt strength return to him. He stopped falling and now stood in mid air as if he stood on solid ground. “Fear not the shadows for they are now mine.” Came a familiar voice.

“Ulthok?” Conall searched the darkness but could not see his friend. Conall’s armor was renewed and shined as if the sun itself found rest within it.

“Understand the world and keep your faith.” came the voice of the she elf Rayne.

“If a man’s luck holds true.” Came the laughter of Divot the Halfling.

“Strength and honor.” came two voices together at the same time. One he knew Haila a true fighter. The other a male voice he could not put a name nor a face to.

It was then a weapon came to Conall from out of the blackness and found rest in Conall’s hand. It was the Axe of Cor Trollhammer, “You have seen me use it many times Lad. Let us see if you have learned anything.”

“If only I could.” Conall thought to himself…It was then a sound filled the air around him, “I know that tune but from where?”

“The garden.” Came back a voice so sweet.

A smile came to Conall and then a fire to his eyes, “Yes I can!”

“No! It can not have a weapon! We have it’s sword! We have it’s will!” the shadows on their mounts all turned and rushed in to attack.

Arrows flew from the darkness and several shadows fell from the darkness out of sight. Two blades began to dance around another and it soon fell from sight. Conall lifted his hand as if guided by another of from his open hand fly magic and two more fell from the darkness. As one came close to Conall it winced in pain and clutched for its back. Laughter filled the air for a moment, “The shadows are mine!”

Three now stood before Conall, “It will die this day. Alone or with those others, they will all die.” It was then a battle axe began to fly around one and it fell.

Then a battle staff came and rested beside Conall “Now the other will fall.” In a blur of movement the staff flies forward and in seconds the other shadow fell. “Now you stand alone and I will never be alone again.” The poison ozzed from Conall’s every pore and he charged forward, a dwarven battle cry on his lips and the sweetest tune filled his head.

A cold rush then came over him…

Elsewhere Conall sat up, pain once more filled his body but death was for now far from him.

Tears of joy fell from the Driuidess's eyes as she felt Conall's rising hearbeat. Like a smith's hammer first meeting the iron it was to forge and from then the power of the beat rose. Even before Conall rose, she lifted her head with a gasp. She did not break the hold, though her fingers clenched and then respread themselves over Conall's chest feeling the pounding of his heart as it stirred his blood. Whatever he needed she gave to him willinly, all that was herself.

"Thank you, Juro, Thank you, Odin." came her simple heartfelt prayer, sent upward to the Rainbow Bridge and to the very gates of Asgard, by her simple steadfast faith.
